05:32 AM Deejay: afternoon
05:47 AM Tom_L: morning
06:20 AM JT-Cave1: https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm-order-tracking/gm-order-event-codes-and-definitions/
06:20 AM JT-Cave1: salesman said it take 3-4 weeks to go from 2000 to 3000
07:31 AM skunkworks[m]: Had the angle ground perfectly for the non-circular boring - seemed to be cutting good.. first pass looked good - tool came out of the hole and the tip was broken off..
07:32 AM skunkworks[m]: might have to buy a better grade of brazed carbide boaring bars.. Or maybe try some hss ones..
07:34 AM skunkworks[m]: boring
07:37 AM dudul[m]: Is your machine a milling machine or turning machine?
07:37 AM skunkworks[m]: 😉
07:37 AM skunkworks[m]: yes
07:38 AM skunkworks[m]: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/23bEsKMNJH0
07:38 AM skunkworks[m]: that is one of the mills
07:40 AM skunkworks[m]: lathe..
07:40 AM skunkworks[m]: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dXcLcQJe8fw
07:56 AM Sariah[m]: [NSFW] tag plz
07:58 AM skunkworks[m]: Lol.. tool porn?
08:08 AM Sariah[m]: jeebus, looking through the non-circular boring thread
08:08 AM Sariah[m]: that's some *fun* stuff.
08:08 AM Sariah[m]: especially the helical
08:08 AM * DZ[m] uploaded an image: (282KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/XPPROEJzBCmOioXXTVwkxWfG/image.png >
08:08 AM DZ[m]: Hey guys, I have run the latency-histogram. But I don't know how to read it, and/or if my latency is good or bad. Is there someone who could help me?
08:09 AM skunkworks[m]: Covid bored at home math
08:09 AM Sariah[m]: skunkworks we need to get you a chonky linear motor axis for your X
08:09 AM Sariah[m]: or is it z?
08:10 AM Sariah[m]: I want to see it running up at 600rpm, haha.
08:13 AM skunkworks[m]: DZ what are you using for hardware? That looks fine for mesa
08:14 AM DZ[m]: I'm using a Hp Compaq Pro 4300 (it's an i3). And running mesa 7i76e via ethernet
08:14 AM skunkworks[m]: Sariah yes.. I would love to build a really high speed platform.
08:14 AM Sariah[m]: how much force do you reckon one would need for an X axis?
08:14 AM skunkworks[m]: Try --nobase
08:15 AM DZ[m]: I'm going to try that when I'm at my shop again!
08:16 AM DZ[m]: thanks for the help skunkworks its a lot to learn and take in this whole cnc journey
08:17 AM dudul[m]: I am working on non circular grinding. It is very challenging
08:17 AM Sariah[m]: ❤️
08:17 AM * dudul[m] uploaded an image: (12KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/aSyOqjxhzFxYVdCyjiEhFOWY/chrome_image_Apr_7_2023_9_02_48_PM_GMT03_30.png >
08:17 AM Sariah[m]: I keep eyeing up those moore jig grinders
08:17 AM Sariah[m]: but I have no space for even a minilathe
08:17 AM * dudul[m] uploaded an image: (43KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/wkvQzXNjLjCbmVFhXQBTiYMl/IMG-20220228-WA0005.jpg >
08:18 AM Sariah[m]: funn
08:18 AM skunkworks[m]: I think Andy did some grinding concepts..
08:19 AM skunkworks[m]: (my stuff was based on Andy's testing)
08:19 AM dudul[m]: I was calculating the tool path with wolfram mathematica. In order to calculate the required servo motor torque . This shape has some similarities of second order( acceleration) . I don't know how to solve it
08:20 AM skunkworks[m]: I would start a thread on the forum
08:21 AM dudul[m]: I saw his video on YouTube. It was very interesting. But i have to calculate the servo size first and then i have to use andy's works
08:21 AM skunkworks[m]: Well.. mine just follows the calculated path. The best it can
08:22 AM dudul[m]: It is a dental rotary file. Very small and very hard to geind because of its low strength
08:22 AM Sariah[m]: grinding shouldn't be much force
08:22 AM dudul[m]: It would be great.
08:22 AM Sariah[m]: give it a go by hand even (holding part or a turning grinding tool)
08:22 AM Sariah[m]: and judge the force
08:23 AM Sariah[m]: probably won't be more then 10kg
08:23 AM dudul[m]: I have calculated the force. It is less than 0.1 N
08:23 AM Sariah[m]: /100N
08:23 AM Sariah[m]: lol
08:23 AM Sariah[m]: I'd probably still aim for a bit more then that 😄
08:23 AM Sariah[m]: hehe
08:25 AM Sariah[m]: I bet there will be a fair bit more on the inertia / friction of the axis of course...
08:25 AM dudul[m]: Its material is Nitinol. It is very soft and using CBN grinding wheels, cutting force drops to 1/10 compared to conventional wheels
08:25 AM Sariah[m]: mostly friction I guess from making a suitably stiff axis
08:26 AM dudul[m]: The most challenging part for servo motor is the acceleration force.
08:26 AM dudul[m]: The diagram of x-t path is something like this
08:28 AM * dudul[m] uploaded an image: (13KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/RdeTBKYdTyQYGHRErwSuIusG/main-qimg-de314ba95ab6e378f7c005345d052a6e-lq.jpg >
08:29 AM Sariah[m]: ah ye

11:16 AM DZ[m]: Woah that’s beautiful
11:16 AM Tom_L: so you shape a little as you glue..
11:30 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:30 AM JT-Shop: I like to rough it in a bit as I add more rings just see the pattern
11:30 AM Tom_L: waiting for event code 6000
11:30 AM JT-Shop: that will be a while I'm sure
11:35 AM bjorkintosh: 35 Axis? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQIxwg891LA ??
11:35 AM bjorkintosh: how?!
11:39 AM Tom_L: time share
11:39 AM Tom_L: i ran an 8 spindle but it was cams & gears
11:40 AM skunkworks[m]: stop dating yourself!
11:40 AM Tom_L: fix with door springs
11:41 AM bjorkintosh: Tom_L, what kind of machine has 8 spindles?
11:41 AM Tom_L: http://nova-machinery.com/machinery/1-14-8-spindle-new-britain-812/
11:42 AM bjorkintosh: what the hell? that thing looks like a gatling gun.
11:43 AM Tom_L: 8 12' bars for turning
11:43 AM Tom_L: usually ran thru them in about an hour
11:44 AM Tom_L: depending on the part
11:45 AM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WH12VtsIVs
11:45 AM Tom_L: there's a model 52 6 spindle
11:50 AM JT-Shop: nap time
11:55 AM bjorkintosh: damn. how do you even program such a machine?
12:00 PM Tom_L: setup on those old ones usually took about a shift
12:00 PM Tom_L: changing collets, feed tubes cams & gears etc
12:00 PM Tom_L: while running 3 others

05:27 PM XXCoder: whooo
05:29 PM XXCoder: did you rough it out sometimes?
05:32 PM JT-Woodshop: yup, I rough it out a bit when I get half way or so just to see the pattern
05:33 PM JT-Woodshop: 4 more pattern rings and the cap ring to go
05:33 PM XXCoder: also dont have to rough it out deeply too
05:37 PM XXCoder: cant wait to see final :D
05:37 PM Tom_L: lookin good
05:37 PM JT-Woodshop: interesting thing is you have no clue what it will look like when your done lol
05:38 PM Tom_L: right
05:38 PM Tom_L: make me a matching pair :)
05:39 PM JT-Woodshop: you kind of have an idea of what colors _might_ look good but the offset is the unknown
05:39 PM JT-Woodshop: once you set the offset I think your committed
05:41 PM JT-Woodshop: I think a matching pair is impossible
05:42 PM Tom_L: pretty sure
05:42 PM XXCoder: with cnc you probably can create aligning pins
05:42 PM XXCoder: very repeatable
05:42 PM JT-Woodshop: but then it would not be a creation of art
05:43 PM XXCoder: you could do it by drill press though
05:44 PM JT-Woodshop: if I didn't screw up the second part I would have 1/8" step in all the rings for a slightly flatter bowl
05:45 PM JT-Woodshop: every 5 or 6th ring is 1/4" bigger

06:43 PM dudul[m]: Hey shunk, is this yours ?
06:43 PM dudul[m]: https://youtu.be/-4sKHBh6rDk
06:44 PM skunkworks[m]: Yes
07:12 PM XXCoder: crazy https://youtu.be/t1J9LqZ-lgc
07:22 PM andypugh_: Yes, but, why. It is an indisputible fact that every machine is sometimes too small, but no machine is ever too big, for the job at hand.
07:23 PM andypugh_: dudul[m]: It is him, yes. But a second channel, not stolen.
07:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: had my hopes up
07:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it works, looks like he used parts from camera mechanisms and similar
07:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: voice coil servos and steppers are a bit pricey
07:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: so I can see why he chose the budget route
