12:00 AM roycroft: if you appended an emoji to that, well i use a curses client
12:11 AM roycroft: i don't see emojis
12:11 AM roycroft: but i'll take your word for it
12:11 AM travis_farmer[m]: one can still be negatively excited with an exclamation mark
12:11 AM skunkworks[m]: lol - I saw the ! as exasperation...
12:11 AM skunkworks[m]: wonder why people get all worked up about 'tone' on the internet. Way different face to face. (and would probably solve a lot of the words problems)
12:11 AM travis_farmer[m]: plain text carries very little emotion to react to
12:53 AM Deejay: moin
01:34 AM bjorkintosh: moin moin.
01:51 AM Deejay: schwätzer ;)

03:23 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
03:23 AM dudul[m]: Morning
03:46 AM XXCoder: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5955653
03:46 AM XXCoder: pretty cool

05:01 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:14 AM Tom_L: morning
05:30 AM travis_farmer[m]: for those that haven't read back yet, i tested positive for covid :-(
05:31 AM DZ[m]: Hey all, I'm Daniel, new here. I've been learning a lot about cnc, cad, cam and linuxcnc. Currently I'm working on adding a worktable fixed tool length sensor and a touch probe. I'm feeling a bit lost and that's why I joined this discord. I've got a few questions about which gui would be best suited for running cnc router project and using a fixed tool length sensor and touch probe.
05:31 AM DZ[m]: Currently I'm running gmoccapy, for now it's alright but I don't find the ui very intuitive. I've found other gui's like touch probe, qtdragon, silverdragon qtpyvcp. And to be honest I'm lost, I've read that some ui's are outdated or not updated anymore. And I want to pick an option that will be 'future proof' - for what it's worth. Sorry if this isn't the correct space to ask this question
05:32 AM DZ[m]: get well travis!
05:32 AM travis_farmer[m]: thanks :-)
06:15 AM JT-Cave: damn bad luck travis_farmer[m] get some rest
06:15 AM JT-Cave: DZ[m], linux and future proof don't go together...
06:16 AM JT-Cave: Axis is the most solid and intuitive GUI
06:17 AM XXCoder: travis_farmer[m]: that sucks.
06:24 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
08:41 AM DZ[m]: is there an option to use a fixed tool length sensor and a probe with axis?
09:03 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:04 AM JT-Shop: it's just a subroutine and you can add a pyvcp button to run the subroutine
09:30 AM roguish[m]: travis_farmer: get the Paxlovid medicine.... worked for me. no rebound yet....
09:31 AM roguish[m]: and just accept you're down for at least a week or so. check the CDC guidelines. they're updated.
09:39 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachments/31446/latency-test_2023-04-06.jpg
09:45 AM roycroft: the weather forecast is teasing me with sunshine and warm weather a week from now
09:45 AM roycroft: that "just another week" tease has been going on for a month
09:50 AM roguish[m]: roycroft: we're getting a little drizzle here. only today, then warm sunshine....
09:51 AM roycroft: it's not rained as hard as forecast, but it has rained every day since i can remember
09:51 AM TurBoss: <CaptHindsight[m]> "https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media..." <- awesome!
10:19 AM travis_farmer[m]: roguish: my doc has put in a Rx for Paxlovid :-)
10:20 AM TurBoss: travis_farmer: hey man sorry to ear that take care 🙂
10:21 AM travis_farmer[m]: Thanks, TurBoss :-) it isn't super bad... yet
10:21 AM TurBoss: 👍️
11:05 AM roguish[m]: travis_farmer: rest, lots of rest. and occasionally some fresh air. a hot shower also feels awesome.
11:43 AM Unterhaus__: a week from now we're supposed to get up to 83F
11:43 AM Unterhaus__: not ready for that nonsense
11:48 AM bjorkintosh: Unterhaus__, it is not nonsense, it is thermal energy!!!
11:48 AM bjorkintosh: freeee of charge!
12:00 PM * roycroft is endowed with an abundance of glosso-thermal energy
12:12 PM * Thorhian7490[m] uploaded an image: (1516KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/jGvBsWxLMsqnzlmIykDBjdjC/IMG_6859.jpg >
12:12 PM Thorhian7490[m]: ZincBoy[CA, ON] How did you get this sealed ring off to put in the stop pins lol?
12:13 PM Tom_L: air?
12:57 PM Thorhian7490[m]: I don’t see anywhere that I could shoot air into it lol.
01:06 PM Tom_L: i thought maybe beside the O-ring it may cause it to pop out
01:14 PM Unterhaus__: they make o-ring spudgers
01:16 PM pcw-home: Tom_L: Efinix tool chain is now free
01:32 PM roycroft: one can squirt an o-ring spudger out of a 3d printer pretty easily
01:58 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:15 PM Thorhian7490[m]: I got it out finally, using a sharp needle to pry it out.
02:17 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Anyone here know how hard it would be to use LinuxCNC to drive a Voron 2.4r2? I bet LCNC can handle CoreXY kinematics, but how would you set up the quad motor grantry leveling system and mesh bed tramming?
03:05 PM Unterhaus__: when I looked into corexy, the problem is getting the accel limits to apply to the motors themselves instead of the joints
03:05 PM Unterhaus__: I feel like I remember that linuxcnc has a problem doing that.
03:06 PM Unterhaus__: with the arduino based systems, all the code is in one big lump so it's easy to apply limits to the motors themselves. Even though they didn't in the case I was working on
03:07 PM Unterhaus__: and also, I could be totally off-base
03:19 PM Thorhian7490[m]: I want to make a tricked out Voron or other design printer down the line, and I’ve heard people talking more and more about LCNC for 3D printer use, so I figured I’d ask. Klipper is great, but it’s not soft real-time for controlling the printer (only the estop can bypass the large command buffers on the MCUs being driven by klipper, so you can’t pause or change settings with the same responsiveness as UI components driven with
03:19 PM Thorhian7490[m]: HAL components). I wonder what the solution would be for getting kinematic systems like corexy to work well with LCNC.
03:26 PM Unterhaus__: lots of stuff on the forums about it
03:26 PM roycroft: the heavy rain has turned into a torrential downpour
03:28 PM Unterhaus__: the problems with accel only show up when you are going really fast, so not going really fast is one solution
03:40 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Kind of the opposite of what you want with a CoreXY machine lol.
03:41 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Roycroft don’t you live near Portland? I would figure there would be plenty of rain.
03:42 PM roycroft: i live a couple hours south of portland
03:43 PM roycroft: but i do live in a rainy part of the state
03:43 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Oh well that’s good.
03:43 PM XXCoder: I live around 4 hours north of roy and we get similiar weather lol
03:44 PM Thorhian7490[m]: I mean you are right below Washington.
03:45 PM Thorhian7490[m]: The snow has only been recently melting a lot over here in Eastern Idaho.
03:45 PM XXCoder: me? nah im in middle of west wa
03:46 PM XXCoder: roy is at north-ish middle of west oregon
03:46 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Oh, lol, I guess I meant roy.
03:47 PM Thorhian7490[m]: I’ve only driven through Oregon to get to Washington, but I think I prefer the Montana/Northern Idaho route. More pretty.
03:47 PM roycroft: latitude has nothing to do with the rain
03:48 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Sure, but I figured the proximity to the giant rainforest up in Canada and southern Alaska doesn’t hurt.
03:48 PM XXCoder: i had friend live at western canada. pretty far north
03:49 PM XXCoder: we had similiar weather too, though snows bit more often than me as they dont have dome blocking most snow
03:51 PM Unterhaus__: the corexy system where this showed up was going over 700ipm
03:51 PM Unterhaus__: with an arduino running it
03:52 PM XXCoder: I guess it had drivers runnign steppers, rather than driving em itself
03:52 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Huh, that’s about the speeds that VZ runs his high end machine at to show off.
03:52 PM XXCoder: otherwise aruino would have bus hammered so much generating many steps
03:55 PM Thorhian7490[m]: Wait, isnt 700 ipm 254 mm/s? https://youtu.be/nGBx-sHxctw
03:55 PM roycroft: we're a bit drier here in the willamette valley than some parts of the state, due to the coast range being between us and the ocean, but we still get plenty of rain
04:06 PM * roycroft needs to get some smaller nozzles for his volcano hot end
04:06 PM roycroft: i'm done with the printing of the hundreds of boxes
04:06 PM roycroft: i'd like to be able to get back to higher quality prints now, without having to swap the hot end out to do so
04:06 PM XXCoder: roy did you see mk4?
04:07 PM XXCoder: it apparently has easy to swap nozzles. I bet you there will be clones of that evenually
04:07 PM XXCoder: ones you could replace your printer hotend assembly with
04:07 PM roycroft: mine is pretty easy to change nozzles
04:07 PM roycroft: i just take the viton boot off, uncrew the nozzle, and screw in the new one
04:08 PM XXCoder: yeah? though mk4 dont need pinda anymore, it directly probes surface with nozzle and tension sensor
04:08 PM XXCoder: so just swap and go, rather than set live z again
04:08 PM roycroft: i never got a probe for my printer
04:08 PM roycroft: i might do that some day
04:08 PM XXCoder: so purely homing z then set bed to nozzle?
04:08 PM JT-Shop: I like the probe on my printer
04:08 PM roycroft: but leveling the bed has never been a problem
04:09 PM roycroft: it stays leveled once i spend the 2 minutes dialing it in
04:09 PM roycroft: keep in mind that i only use the printer for shop projects
04:10 PM XXCoder: yeah fancy stuff isnt really needed for that
04:10 PM XXCoder: I want to upgrade my mk3s to mk4
04:10 PM roycroft: right now i'm printing some alignment pads for the honeycomb bed for my laser
04:10 PM XXCoder: same time replacing bearings as its very aged bearings needs replacement
04:21 PM Thorhian7490[m]: I’m still stuck with a mostly stock ender 3 lol.
04:23 PM roycroft: i have an ender 5
04:23 PM roycroft: i replaced the hot end with a volcano so i could print faster with 0.8mm nozzles
04:24 PM roycroft: and i replaced the stock extruder with an aluminium one because i wore out the plastic one that came with it
04:24 PM roycroft: but other than that it's pretty stock
04:24 PM roycroft: i did print an enclosure for the control panel that holds an rip4 underneath the panel, so i can use octopi to interface with the machine
04:25 PM roycroft: i'm not sure one would call that a mod
04:37 PM Tom_L: pcw-home, good to know.. thanks
04:40 PM Tom_L: does it run on debian ok?
04:48 PM roycroft: and now the sun is shining
04:48 PM roycroft: i'm off work in 13 minutes, so i know when it will start raining again
04:49 PM Tom_L: it's been shining all day! you were just in the wrong place
04:51 PM Tom_L: turned out to be a nice day here
04:53 PM roycroft: the good weather will get here
04:53 PM roycroft: its a bit late this year, but it will arrive, and soon, i hope
04:54 PM roycroft: i haven't cut the grass since november, and every time i want to go do so it's too wet
04:54 PM * roycroft has lots of outdoor projects to get to as soon as the weather improves
05:32 PM * JT-Shop watches Sampson boat co from the beginning
05:34 PM XXCoder: watching an aging wheels video, hes talking about polestar2. man I HATE how the car lights constantly flicker
05:34 PM XXCoder: wtf with that
05:38 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, how many episodes are there?
05:39 PM XXCoder: apparently its not visible in person, but difference of hz of led lighting and camera
05:39 PM JT-Shop: there is a new one last Saturday
05:39 PM Tom_L: any updates to mesact2?
05:39 PM Tom_L: i haven't checked in a bit.. been under the weather
05:40 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpulXX1cros
05:40 PM JT-Shop: me too
05:42 PM JT-Shop: the next button is not always the next vidoe
05:42 PM JT-Shop: video
05:44 PM Tom_L: i wonder how many hours he put into that thing
05:45 PM JT-Shop: 18 hours a day I think
05:46 PM JT-Shop: he has a lot of drive and being young has the stamina
05:46 PM Tom_L: he'll get over that
05:46 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:53 PM roycroft: tally ho is a pretty talented guy, and seems a nice chap, but it's hard to get past the bojo haircut
05:54 PM JT-Shop: I don't think Leo cuts his hair... he just get near some power tools from time to tim
05:55 PM roycroft: tally ho's ownere, that is
05:55 PM roycroft: it's naturally disheveled
05:56 PM roycroft: while bojo's dischevelement is carefully groomed
05:56 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:56 PM JT-Shop: I just rubber band my hair
06:10 PM XXCoder: baking soda sandblaster project. interesting

08:47 PM roycroft: my honeycomb bed arrived and it is used and missing some parts
08:47 PM XXCoder: jeez
08:47 PM XXCoder: hate it when they send out returnees and didnt check
08:47 PM roycroft: i had amazon phone me, and they noticed that this is the third order in a row where i received used items like that
08:47 PM roycroft: i told them i was getting tired of it and it's a waste of time
08:47 PM roycroft: so they refunded me, told me to keep the used one, and they're sending me a new one
08:48 PM roycroft: i can use the used one
08:48 PM roycroft: but i wasn't thrilled about paying for a new one and getting a used one
08:48 PM roycroft: so i guess now i'll have two
08:49 PM XXCoder: yeah I bet its super annoying
08:49 PM roycroft: maybe if they keep giving things away for free, twice, they'll get their warehouses in order
08:49 PM XXCoder: I mean, if that one you got was unusable, you'd have to wait even more
08:50 PM roycroft: yes
08:50 PM roycroft: and none of my recent problems were due to shipping damage
08:50 PM roycroft: shipping is not always in the control of amazon, so i would not hold that against them
08:50 PM roycroft: but when they send me something that is used, damaged, and missing parts, that's all on them
08:51 PM XXCoder: yeah
08:52 PM roycroft: anyway, now that i have the honeycomb bed i can design and build the enclosure for the laser
08:56 PM roycroft: i want to eventually get the rotary axis for the machine, but i figure i can build the enclosure for the main unit now, and build a trap door into the bottom
08:56 PM roycroft: then when i get the rotary axis i can build a lower cabinet for that
10:04 PM XXCoder: guy marsden making tensegrity thing. should be interesting
10:12 PM roycroft: i have some sparrows who identify as owls, i think
10:12 PM roycroft: last night they started chirping at 2am
10:12 PM roycroft: and kept it up for quite some time
10:12 PM roycroft: they've been quiet all day, but they just started chirping again, right after it turned dark
