12:53 AM Deejay: moin
03:12 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
03:43 AM travis_farmer[m]: well, my sister and mother have both tested + for the Creeping Crud... only a matter of time before i get it...
04:55 AM Tom_L: morning
04:56 AM Tom_L: 34°F
05:46 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:46 AM JT-Cave: 72°F
05:51 AM TurBoss: morning
05:51 AM TurBoss: bit cold over here 🙂
06:44 AM travis_farmer[m]: well, i tested mostly negative for Covid. an extremely faint hint of a line on one edge of the test card. could be positive, though. will re-test later...
07:23 AM Guido[m]: Good luck, but you may want to stay home for a while. That will ver likely become a full positive…
07:24 AM travis_farmer[m]: i have no place else i can go
10:32 AM roguish[m]: travis_farmer[m]: 'mostly negative' isn't that like being 'mostly pregnant' ???
10:32 AM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, i will test again this afternoon. may have been false results, either way
10:34 AM roguish[m]: i feel almost normal now. 2 good nights sleep in a row.... and a real dinner last evening. gonna test later today. unfortunately my wife just got a positive and feels poorly.
10:35 AM travis_farmer[m]: i am all vaxed, so if i get it, i don't think it will be bad
10:36 AM roguish[m]: i'm vaxed like hell. 6 jabs.
10:36 AM roguish[m]: last one was the newest version
10:36 AM travis_farmer[m]: my last one was 2 weeks ago i think
10:46 AM perry_j1987: morning
10:52 AM roycroft: for folks who are fully vaxed, covid-19 is mostly an annoyance these days
10:52 AM roycroft: two years ago it was pretty deadly, but that has changed
10:58 AM pcw-home: It was like the worst cold I've ever had but only lasted about 4 days (though was positive for another 12 days)
11:04 AM jpa-: here last shot was over a year ago, covid took 2.5 weeks for me
11:07 AM CloudEvil: Incidence of longcovid is still high (compared with deaths), and can destroy your life after a 'mild' infection.
11:07 AM travis_farmer[m]: well, that sounds encouraging... ;-)
11:16 AM perry_j1987: giving the new freecad a try
11:30 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:30 AM JT[m]: Raining so hard I lost internet
11:30 AM perry_j1987: i've been there
11:30 AM Tom_L: yeah we got that yesterday
11:30 AM Tom_L: now it's cold
11:31 AM Tom_L: so windy it was raining sideways :)
11:32 AM roycroft: i'm glad it's just that
11:32 AM roycroft: i've been reading about a tornado in missouri
11:47 AM roguish[m]: roycroft: yeah, south east Missery
11:56 AM skunkworks[m]: perry_j1987: I have been using freecad off an on.. For mostly 3d printing prototypes. Still don't know the 'right' way to draw - but it gets the job one.
11:56 AM skunkworks[m]: I can draw basic stuff up pretty quick now.
11:56 AM skunkworks[m]: still need to try the cam
11:57 AM perry_j1987: im following along with some freecad videos that seems helpful just to be forced to go through the paces
11:57 AM perry_j1987: ya i just want to have a working functional understanding of freecad incase autodesk blows up or something heh
11:57 AM skunkworks[m]: I usually screw around - get stuck and look for videos.. :)\
11:58 AM perry_j1987: all pads within a body are inherintly one body right?
11:58 AM perry_j1987: i made two cylinder pads that line up the same under one body but they show as two parts
12:00 PM roycroft: freecad is probably ok for 3d printing, as folks generally only print isolated parts, and don't need assemblies
12:01 PM perry_j1987: seen some sort of assembly workbench
12:02 PM roycroft: there are multiple assembly workbences
12:02 PM roycroft: none of which are compatible with any of the others
12:02 PM roycroft: none of which are official
12:02 PM roycroft: and none of which can conform to an assembly api, because that does not yet exist
12:03 PM roycroft: so you can create an assembly today, but you can't count on being able to load it tomorrow
12:05 PM roycroft: we have maybe not a lot of rain in the forecast for a week from tomorrow
12:05 PM roycroft: and possibly not rain this saturday
12:14 PM skunkworks[m]: yah - have had no need for asseblies yet
12:15 PM roycroft: someone posted a link to a blog by a freecad supporter/developer the other day that was encouraging
12:15 PM roycroft: the blog post indicated that they're actually paying attention to the assembly problem
12:15 PM * roycroft forgets the details and did not save the link, but perhaps the original poster will repost it
12:27 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:00 PM travis_farmer[m]: took another covid test, as my fever is 99.8F, and i have chills, dizzy, and a migraine. second was negative, clearly this time. so i got something, just not covid...
01:00 PM JT-Shop: my dad used to call that the creaping crud
01:01 PM travis_farmer[m]: so does my dad :-)
02:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the Bridgeport has a new home now
02:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I don't think the Matsuura wiil move as quick
02:06 PM mrec: 2/join ##stm32
02:07 PM mrec: sorry
02:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: well it's 5x the mass of the BP
02:48 PM solarwind: andypugh_ mesamodbus eh
02:48 PM solarwind: CaptHindsight[m] you have a bridgeport bridgeport?
02:48 PM solarwind: Or a taiwanese clone?
02:49 PM andypugh_: solarwind: Yes. Very close to working
02:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: original BP j-head from ~1961
02:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: had one :)
02:49 PM andypugh_: (well, actually working for bit write, I am working on the bit-write now, registers to follow)
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: was tired anyway, just never got rid of it
02:50 PM solarwind: CaptHindsight[m] yeah, saw a few of those when I was looking to buy about 3 years ago, but they were all in terrible condition and the sellers were all asking for $4k which is ridiculous
02:50 PM solarwind: Ended up getting a First LC 1-1/2VS for $5k from a machinist in pristine condition
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: https://i.imgur.com/k6H0MPo.jpg I'll make you a deal on this
02:51 PM solarwind: that was the first machine I bought and started this obsession
02:51 PM Toneloc36 is now known as newnick
02:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I probably won't get another BP ever again
02:51 PM solarwind: CaptHindsight[m] that looks solid. Almost as solid as my 4 ton leblond makino VMC
02:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: rarely used BP
02:52 PM newnick is now known as Toneloc
02:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I think the Matsuura is 8-9 tons, it's a beast
02:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: had to get the heaviest flatbed tiltbed they had to move it
02:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: will probably gut and scrap anyway
02:56 PM andypugh_: I always wanted a Huron milling machine as I like the design, but they are all prettyhuge.
03:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I come across lots of big iron all the time, but I really don't like machining, just designing and building machines
03:02 PM andypugh_: I like turning on a lathe, but milling is meh!
03:02 PM XXCoder: oh yes capt did you comment on edge precision conceptal machine design? forgot
03:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: there is a new supershop in the Chicago area
03:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: like that one up in Minneapolis
03:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hundreds of machines, order online, ready in a day or two
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I have a bunch of leftover linear servo positioners and similar
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: was going to build a super precision CNC lathe
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: with air bearings
05:28 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (300KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/NVnJpCAWNqhhiKhYIBxRhAAg/20230405_172512.jpg >
05:28 PM Sariah[m]: CaptainHindsight been on my bucket list for aaages
05:36 PM roguish[m]: JT: still playing with bowls?
05:37 PM JT-Shop: yup that's the wedding bowl I didn't finish on time
05:38 PM roguish[m]: ok, get 'er done.....
05:38 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: did the tornado come close by?
05:38 PM JT-Shop: no
05:38 PM roguish[m]: hope ya gotta bunker...
05:39 PM JT-Shop: basement
05:39 PM roguish[m]: good deal........
05:40 PM JT-Shop: we had a cat 5 pass 900' to the north some years ago
05:40 PM roguish[m]: that's fracking close..........
05:40 PM roguish[m]: could even suck ya in
05:41 PM JT-Shop: too close, I stayed in the garage because trees were falling down all over and there is still butt prints in the concrete
05:48 PM JT-Shop: our property to the west goes up a hill and tornados come from the west so they will skip over our buildings before touching down again
05:53 PM Tom_L: don't move the hill
05:54 PM JT-Shop: you got that right
05:55 PM Tom_L: i've heard the indians had a thing about a fork in the river and i'm starting to believe it after being here 40+ yrs
05:59 PM Tom_L: the worst weather seems to go either east or west of us
06:00 PM Tom_L: bowl is starting to take shape
06:00 PM JT-Shop: finally lol
06:01 PM JT-Shop: the glue up goes pretty fast
06:01 PM JT-Shop: going to Swiss tomorrow so no bowl work
06:01 PM Tom_L: what is Swiss?
06:02 PM JT-Shop: Swiss MO sign says welcome leaving on each side lol
06:02 PM JT-Shop: Swiss meat company
06:03 PM Tom_L: google said she had to squint to find it
06:03 PM JT-Shop: lol
06:04 PM Tom_L: that's a fair day's trip
06:05 PM JT-Shop: 3hr each way
06:05 PM JT-Shop: stop in Cuba for bbq on the way back
06:06 PM JT-Shop: Missouri hick bbq

09:46 PM Connor1: Can you power a 7i76E with 24v? I know you can for field I/O, but, does it require a separate 5v supply? It's been a while since I looked at one.
10:04 PM Tom_L: http://www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/7i76eman.pdf
10:04 PM Tom_L: PDF page8
10:04 PM Tom_L: Note: Due to chip availability issues some 7I76Es will have a 1A maximum 5V supply capability.
