01:19 AM Deejay: moin
04:25 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
04:53 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:00 AM travis_farmer[m]: off-topic, but funny, for your morning cup of coffee: https://youtu.be/KXWv5FEYrXI
06:01 AM XXCoder: miliary wannabe type police lol
06:01 AM XXCoder: otherwise funny lol
07:33 AM Tom_L: 58°F Hi 78°F
07:39 AM JT-Cave: same here
07:39 AM JT-Cave: won't be building any fires today
08:11 AM travis_farmer[m]: 33F with a high of 43F
08:30 AM JT-Cave: I finally fingered out how I wanted to handle stepgens, encoders and pwms based on the firmware selected
11:01 AM roycroft: well, our forecast for sunny, warm weather next weekend has turned into a forecast for rain, rain, and more rain
11:03 AM roycroft: but at least it will get warmer
11:03 AM roycroft: and the snow that was in the forecast for tomorrow is now rain
12:17 PM JT-Shop: overcast today, thursday looks like a road trip to Swiss
12:23 PM * travis_farmer[m] watches a movie for the 8th time... (World War Z)
12:29 PM skunkworks[m]: travis_farmer: Try 'the crazies' next.
12:30 PM travis_farmer[m]: i have no money to buy that, hence why i watch the ones i have over and over
12:38 PM roycroft: you don't need money to watch "the crazies"
12:39 PM roycroft: just turn on the tv at 6 o'clock and watch the news
12:39 PM travis_farmer[m]: just a mirror? ;-)
12:47 PM skunkworks[m]: lol
01:15 PM pcw--home: _finally_ negative
01:20 PM roguish[m]: pcw--home: good going..... I'm feeing a bit better today..... won't test until tomorrow
01:21 PM pcw--home: I only felt really sick for 4 days, but it took two weeks to test negative
01:23 PM travis_farmer[m]: my sister tested + just yesterday. tested myself, and i am - 🙂
01:23 PM roguish[m]: I have no clue what's going to happen.. my wife felt bad this morning, but tested neg.
01:24 PM pcw--home: I think Omicron is much more infectious than previous strains
01:24 PM roguish[m]: the XBB version is going around. look it up.
01:25 PM pcw--home: we have no idea where we got it
01:25 PM roguish[m]: neither do I. I suspect my the gym I just started going to.
01:26 PM roycroft: omicron is more infectious but the symptoms are generally less severe
01:27 PM roguish[m]: I'm hoping getting it actually adds a little more immunity
01:28 PM roycroft: it should
01:28 PM roycroft: although "natural immunity" is mostly a fallacy
01:28 PM roycroft: covid-19 is an unusual virus family, and it does not behave as similar ones do
01:29 PM roycroft: but having had it does offer some increased immunity
01:29 PM roycroft: generally speaking
01:30 PM roycroft: so since i decided on changing courses on my cnc router design i've been sketching some things
01:30 PM roycroft: and i've realised that it looks quite a bit like the avid cnc design now
01:30 PM roycroft: is that good or bad?
01:30 PM pcw--home: Yeah, I hear 3 to 6 months of immunity is likely ( probably dependent on what new variants emerge )
01:30 PM roycroft: the upper part of avidcnc
01:31 PM roycroft: it will still be my own base and the vertical bed will be fairly unique
01:31 PM roycroft: and the z axis is also not like avid cnc, so i guess i should say that the gantry is looking a lot like theirs now
01:34 PM roguish[m]: pcw--home: how's the fpga supply now?
01:53 PM pcw--home: Still no Xilinx but Efinix supply is no problem
02:23 PM skunkworks[m]: pcw--home: are you thinking of switching them all to efinix?
02:27 PM pcw--home: Yes, I have gradually been doing that (I may consider Lattice as its availability issues seem to be getting resolved)
02:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: used manual machines have dropped in price since it's spring cleaning time
02:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: at least around here
02:33 PM pcw--home: I have switched 7i96,7i95,7i92,7i80hd,5i25, with 7I94, 7i97, 6i25, 7i76E coming next
02:44 PM XXCoder: roy looks lik basucally standard cnc router gantry thing?
02:45 PM JT-Shop: pcw--home, do you have stock on the 7i95T?
02:46 PM XXCoder: pcw good to hear that you got well :)
02:46 PM pcw--home: No but we are in the process of building more
02:46 PM pcw--home: (well I have one)
02:46 PM JT-Shop: :)
02:47 PM JT-Shop: how far out is the 7i97T?
02:47 PM pcw--home: XXCoder: thanks is was only bad for ~4 days but took forever to test negative
02:47 PM pcw--home: 7I97T I am still laying out
02:48 PM JT-Shop: ok
02:48 PM pcw--home: 5I25T protos this week
02:48 PM JT-Shop: cool
02:48 PM pcw--home: bbl (actually going to work!)
02:50 PM Tom_L: pcw, what pcb software have you been using?
02:51 PM Tom_L: i looked at PADS once and used eagle for my 'play' stuff
05:14 PM XXCoder: roycroft: watching a laser review seems diode laser is able to engrave steel
05:14 PM XXCoder: since it cant get rid of heat fast enough
05:14 PM XXCoder: made me wonder if yours could.
05:14 PM JT-Shop: I turned down a couple of service items on the Honda Insight and they now will give me 20% off
05:14 PM XXCoder: speed seems to have to be low, like 100 mm/m
05:16 PM XXCoder: made me wonder, if alum is preheated, would it have harder time getting rid of heat so it can be engraved too. probably too hot
05:17 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/ncFUTjvYEtY?t=530
05:17 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, last time in the oil change was free.. point system
05:17 PM JT-Shop: I have prepaid maintenance on the Honda's but it does not cover everything
05:35 PM roycroft: xxcoder: not directly
05:36 PM roycroft: unless perhaps it's a really high power diode laser
05:36 PM XXCoder: that video it seems otherwise. he engraved a very nice open source logo and pengin on steel with no paint etc
05:36 PM roycroft: i'll have a look
05:37 PM roycroft: oh
05:37 PM roycroft: that's not steel
05:37 PM roycroft: it's stainless steel
05:37 PM roycroft: and yes, a diode can engrave stainless steel
05:37 PM XXCoder: wow nice to know
05:37 PM roycroft: it's the cobolt that makes it work
05:37 PM roycroft: cobalt, rather
05:37 PM roycroft: try that on carbon steel or brass, though, and you will be sad
05:38 PM roycroft: i have a honeycomb pad on order, btw
05:38 PM XXCoder: thats awesome :)
05:38 PM roycroft: the xtool pad is $125
05:39 PM roycroft: the oem pad, which is what xtool buy, cost me $53
05:41 PM XXCoder: not bad I think
05:41 PM roycroft: i want to build an enclosure for my laser, and i thought i should get the honeycomb pad first, so i can accomodate for it easily
05:41 PM roycroft: i have no immediate plans to do any cutting, and the honeycomb pad isn't that useful for engraving
05:41 PM roycroft: but i do want to be able to cut with the laser eventually
05:42 PM XXCoder: yeah theres bunch of fun stuff on thingverse for laser stuff
05:42 PM roycroft: to me it's like the 3d printer
05:43 PM roycroft: just a tool
05:43 PM roycroft: and the more plug and play it is the better
05:43 PM roycroft: my cnc router is what i'm thinking of doing some really neat stuff with
05:43 PM XXCoder: yeah for you making stuff is hobby, not fixing and upgrading machines :D
05:43 PM roycroft: exactly
05:43 PM roycroft: although i'm still in organizing the shop mode, which i hope is almost over
05:44 PM roycroft: i've been meaning to build a new mobile base and storage cabinet for my table saw for years
05:44 PM roycroft: i was going to build the cnc router first, but moving the router table to the tablesaw means i do the tablesaw first
05:44 PM roycroft: and i'm almost finished with the mobile base design for that
05:45 PM roycroft: so that's probably what i'll build during my upcoming vacation time
05:46 PM XXCoder: cool

11:11 PM Thorhian7490[m]: A laser without an enclosure and proper filtering and ducting is asking for trouble.
11:16 PM roycroft: i'd agree with that generally
11:16 PM roycroft: but it's not always a problem
11:17 PM roycroft: in my case, i definitely want an enclosure and proper ventiliation, so i can put it in a place that is harder to control than where it lives right now
11:17 PM roycroft: and where it can be operated without direct attention all the time
11:18 PM roycroft: it still needs to be monitored, but right now when i use my laser i feel the need to be right by it the entire time it's operating
11:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0I6MOT6M5I&t=4s
11:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no safety glasses were harmed
