01:18 AM mits[m]: huh
01:28 AM mits[m]: I just noticed that motion has joint.n.amp-enable-out
01:28 AM mits[m]: nothing I've seen uses this
01:28 AM mits[m]: hey, there's tp-reverse
01:28 AM mits[m]: is 'reverse' as in playing gcode in reverse, or playing it mirrored?
03:02 AM XXCoder: lol i remember your fairly cramped old desk
03:03 AM XXCoder: fellow xfce mint user I see too lol
03:46 AM Loetmichel: well,i just moved in, XXCoder. Gimme a few weeks for the usual chaos.
03:46 AM XXCoder: lol
03:47 AM Loetmichel: that notebook is just for testing electronics. And old/only 4gb ram. So yeah, XFCE Mint it is.

04:24 AM Deejay: moin
04:33 AM Tom_L: morning
04:48 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:27 AM Loetmichel: hehee, co-worker just came by... "Hey, either you are really good at checking distances or you have much trust in fate." $me: "Why?" He points at: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=18095&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 ... "Nah, I always park this way, the UPS truck has to fit beside that!" :P
05:34 AM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/CF6LT8tOeg4
05:34 AM XXCoder: lol
05:42 AM XXCoder: roy that video is funny.
06:21 AM Deejay: re
06:27 AM demir: looking for some sorces abour linuxcnc for wire edm. Thanks in advance
06:31 AM jpa-: too bad we couldn't provide the sorces in 1 minute
06:33 AM JT-Cave: lol
06:36 AM CloudEvil: Wire EDM seems like it'd be hard
06:40 AM jpa-: https://www.baxedm.com/linuxcnc-installation-for-edm-machine/ might be one reference
06:40 AM jpa-: though that page is silly collection of screenshots of debian installation :D
06:47 AM JT-Cave: just use M52 adaptive feed control which can back up
06:48 AM JT-Cave: and now that the chicken coops have internet again the doors will open at sunrise
06:55 AM Tom_L: hi today 57F compared to the 80 from yesterday
06:56 AM JT-Cave: 64°F atm
06:56 AM Tom_L: 42
07:32 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:53 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I use joint.n.amp-enable-out to drive the enable on my servo amplifiers. Which I believe is its intended purpose.
08:11 AM JT-Shop_ is now known as JT-Shop
08:11 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:12 AM JT-Shop: well I did some cleaning and now no X lol, is there a command to start it from the terminal?
08:13 AM travis_farmer[m]: i think it used to be startx, or xstart, i don't remember
08:16 AM JT-Shop: bandsaw is at the terminal but I delayed delivery until Monday due to 100% heavy rain tomorrow
08:40 AM skunkworks[m]: mits you can run negative adaptive feed - which will run the gcode in reverse - I think there is a limit of how far back you can go. (tool changes is one)
09:49 AM perry_j1987: morning
10:21 AM perry_j1987: need to build a new control box for this taig. thinking of switching to closed loop steppers for it
10:32 AM Loetmichel: perry_j1987: has the taig acme thread or ballscrews?
10:32 AM perry_j1987: ball
10:32 AM perry_j1987: its got huge nema23 on it now but the xylotex board died so need to get some new drivers
10:32 AM perry_j1987: now considering going closed loop since i got the opportunity heh
10:41 AM perry_j1987: i could desolder the stepper driver chip on board that's causing the whole board to fault though
11:06 AM skunkworks[m]: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4Y8noR9ozVE
11:16 AM roycroft: i once had to put a rotary table on my little mill-drill and then an x-y table on top of the rotary table
11:17 AM roycroft: thank goodness i have collets for my end mills - there would not have been room for a drill chuck in the spindle with that setup
12:07 PM skunkworks[m]: without the spacer - the spindle nose would go lower than the table.
12:08 PM skunkworks[m]: Could probably be higher yet - but I think it is a good balance.
12:08 PM skunkworks[m]: This is with spacer + z all the way down.

12:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GduCExxB0vw unwrap and then basically use the inverse of image to g-code to convert the thickness of the paper (where the pen was used to write) back to an image

01:44 PM roycroft: it's lunch time
01:44 PM roycroft: so time to do some laser engraving
02:15 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:33 PM * travis_farmer[m] watches "Captain Phillips" on YouTube :-)
02:47 PM unterhaus_: world's first 3d rocket fails to reach orbit. Shouldn't have used PLA
02:48 PM XXCoder: what failed? do they know?
02:54 PM Tom_L: ran out of PLA to burn
02:54 PM XXCoder: lol
02:55 PM XXCoder: would be funny if pla was really good rocket solid fuel
02:57 PM roycroft: maybe the flux capacitor got clogged with filament strings
03:10 PM unterhaus_: my understanding is that rocket fuel is basically rubber
03:10 PM unterhaus_: this probably is bad information
03:10 PM XXCoder: i remember reading that yeah but dunno if that specific rocket was using that
03:11 PM unterhaus_: flexible pla
03:12 PM unterhaus_: sometimes I think that all I learned in engineering school is that rubber is incompressible
03:14 PM roycroft: it's smooshable
03:14 PM roycroft: unless it's frozen
03:14 PM roycroft: then it's machinable
03:14 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:15 PM XXCoder: never got to do that, sop never ran any rubber
03:15 PM XXCoder: shop
03:15 PM unterhaus_: it can't be smooshed in the sense that if it's smooshed in one direction it expands in another
03:15 PM roycroft: i tried the blue tape trick at lunch today
03:15 PM roycroft: i put blue tape over the piece of wood that i was engraving
03:15 PM roycroft: it worked brilliantly - the engraving was crisp and deep and dark, and the blue tape kept it from smudging the surfae
03:16 PM XXCoder: nice to know
03:16 PM roguish[m]1: unterhaus_: it has a high Poisson ratio. if you squish it one way, it pooches out the other way a lot
03:16 PM XXCoder: oh did you see that video?
03:16 PM unterhaus_: that's what I just said
03:16 PM roycroft: i'm not sure what video you're talking about
03:16 PM roycroft: that's also what i just said :)
03:16 PM roycroft: smooshy = high poisson ratio
03:17 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/CF6LT8tOeg4 guy talks about 2 of larger laser machines (and his own even larger one)
03:17 PM unterhaus_: smooshy and crushable are opposites
03:17 PM XXCoder: I know you arent planning to get something that large but yeah funny though
03:18 PM unterhaus_: cork has a Poisson's ratio of zero because it just crushes
03:21 PM roguish[m]1: rubber and cork and such have different constitutive theories from metals, like aluminum and iron.....
03:22 PM roguish[m]1: https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/continuum-mechanics-and-thermodynamics-of-matter/principles-of-constitutive-theory/559E08353085BDDE5CB3EB340B89A94C

03:39 PM roycroft: my machine isn't that much smaller than the desktop models in that video, but it's much more portable (for now)
03:39 PM XXCoder: yeah? interesting. though yeah as he said those models work well besides from few really bad issues
06:25 PM Jym: JT-Shop Making firewood from shop sawdust... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ri62uzLoss
06:25 PM XXCoder: yo
06:25 PM XXCoder: briquette press!
06:26 PM XXCoder: I tried to find that a while ago but couldnt remember name
06:26 PM XXCoder: https://woodgears.ca/reader/alois/press.html
06:26 PM XXCoder: this is project I tried to link to quite a while ago
06:28 PM XXCoder: its essentally automated process. just turn on and walk away
06:31 PM XXCoder: video is more advanced build it looks like
06:33 PM XXCoder: Jym: winding nut method lol
06:34 PM Jym: XXCoder the operator?
06:34 PM XXCoder: your linked video
06:35 PM redlegion_ is now known as redlegion
06:38 PM XXCoder: that video machine definitely is a lot more powerful than one at my link
06:38 PM XXCoder: lot more money too I think
06:43 PM XXCoder: wow the augers is way overkill
06:43 PM XXCoder: it just need to ensure chips dont settle into arcing over intake
06:43 PM XXCoder: *arching
06:55 PM XXCoder: hmm interesting. it actually stalled anyway. must be heavier and horzional
06:55 PM XXCoder: other one just uses wiper motor from car
06:58 PM roycroft: the air assist kit for my laser is $150 from xtool
06:58 PM roycroft: the exact same air pump, but with a different color case, is sold for $45 for aquariums
06:58 PM roycroft: guess what i got
06:58 PM XXCoder: expensive color
06:59 PM roycroft: i'm holding off on all other upgrades/accessories for a while, but i was able to determine that i need the air blaster right away
07:01 PM XXCoder: yeah sounded like really needed upgrade.
07:02 PM roycroft: i thought as much when i ordered the machine, but i wanted to see how it works as it comes first
07:03 PM XXCoder: yeah 1/3 price id get fishy one
07:29 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, any engraving progress?
07:58 PM perry_j1987: g'evening
09:53 PM Tom_L: roycroft, i made a hand pick n place from similar said air pump
09:55 PM Tom_L: actually mine would have been smaller than a $45 one
09:57 PM roycroft: i used an aquarium air pump on my old scroll saw
10:02 PM Tom_L: what do you use for smoke evacuation?
10:06 PM roycroft: i open the garage door and blow a fan across the laser
10:06 PM roycroft: when i move the laser machine into the house i'll build an enclosure for it and install an exhaust fan and duct it outside
10:17 PM Tom_L: you seem happier with this one
10:25 PM roycroft: it's a much better machine
10:25 PM roycroft: the first one was extremely portable, and i focused too much on that feature
11:55 PM mits[m]: in released versions? or in some branch... I'm seeing forum posts that it is or was in branch...
