12:10 AM jpa-: regarding restoring settings when program ends, i resorted to some python code that monitors GSTAT.is_auto_running() and runs some MDI commands when it goes to false
12:19 AM jpa-: M2 doesn't seem to run when program is aborted, which was quite annoying
12:39 AM pere: hi
01:15 AM Deejay: moin
02:15 AM mits[m]: in axis when you touch off somewhere does that call anything that I could hook in to without recompiling?
02:15 AM mits[m]: I don't know if it calls a Gcode under the hood, or something
02:45 AM travis_farmer[m]: G'Morning ☕️
04:36 AM Tom_L: morning
04:42 AM jpa-: mits[m]: axis is just python code in any case, you can override a lot of stuff in axis_usercommands
04:42 AM jpa-: https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gui/axis.html#_redirect_an_existing_command

08:30 AM JT-Shop: replacement router for the replacement router is on order
09:05 AM pcw--home: JT-Shop: looks like (some version of) mesact may have a bug in its timing calculations
09:05 AM pcw--home: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/48369-optiplex-755?start=10
09:51 AM JT[m]: pcw-home thanks

11:02 AM JT-Cave: anyone know if the opengl issue has been resolved in debian 13
11:34 AM unterhaus: JT, you mean the OpenGL problem on Pi?
11:34 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:02 PM roycroft: how did your glue-up turn out, jt-cave?
12:09 PM perry_j1987: mmm orange juice
01:08 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:09 PM JT-Shop: unterhaus, no the opengl problem with debian 13, you can't run linuxcnc
01:10 PM JT-Shop: lucky I didn't update this pc and get the broken opengl
01:10 PM travis_farmer[m]: lucky my LCNC computer is only debian 11 ;-)
01:13 PM JT-Shop: maybe when I get internet back up and running I'll do an update to see if they fixed it
01:13 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, resawing the blocks now that they match pretty close
01:32 PM unterhaus: clough42 probably should have bought the clearpath
01:32 PM unterhaus: $300 once is better than $100 every 2 years
01:40 PM unterhaus: maybe he wouldn't have had so many views
02:11 PM rmu: debian 13? when was debian 12 released?
02:11 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:12 PM JT-Shop: Delta X5 planer is on it's way to Arkansas
02:33 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:34 PM roycroft: i'm glad it worked out in the end
02:35 PM roycroft: that have been a lot of time and a lot of nice wood to toss in the wood stove, which would not care one bit about all that effort
02:35 PM roycroft: not to mention that burning titebond is pretty nasty
02:35 PM XXCoder: nah it would still be useful for something else
02:36 PM XXCoder: jb could turn it into shallow plate by just gluing those 2 together
02:36 PM XXCoder: then lathe into nice plate
02:37 PM XXCoder: wb
02:37 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4q6eaLn2mY
02:37 PM roycroft: they would make good self-floggers
02:38 PM XXCoder: ah yes fancy self-floggers
02:42 PM roycroft: and keeping with the theme of piety:
02:42 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f72CTDe4-0
03:00 PM unterhaus: debian 13 is unstable version
03:18 PM roycroft: it's the bad luck version
03:19 PM roycroft: i wonder how many folks will skip it and wait for debian 14
03:54 PM unterhaus: I'm going to use debian 13 forever, my lucky number
04:01 PM roycroft: until the day you die?
04:14 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:20 PM unterhaus: who knows, I may not live that long
04:29 PM rmu: debian 13 is codenamed trixie, and not released. even debian 12 has not been released. debian unstable is something different
04:48 PM unterhaus: I am not a debian expert, I just repeated what I read on the debian site somewhere
04:49 PM unterhaus: I would have nothing to do with debian if given a choice
04:49 PM unterhaus: then again, I dislike all the distributions I have ever used, so it's probably just me
04:50 PM unterhaus: Mate seemed nice, but I didn't use it long
04:51 PM Tom_L: i'm getting used to it
04:52 PM roycroft: I find debian the least horrible linux distro for our isp serves
04:52 PM roycroft: servers
04:57 PM unterhaus: in the end, you can get used to any of them and if they are reliable they are fine
04:57 PM unterhaus: that generally seems to be true of debian
04:57 PM unterhaus: I had to give up on ubuntu because bad things would happen and then I had to become a linux expert all over again
04:58 PM unterhaus: like xwindows wouldn't start
04:59 PM unterhaus: but I was forced to use fedora for years, so I'm used to unstable linuxes
05:03 PM Tom_L: wonder if that's the 'rea' Jym
05:03 PM Tom_L: 'real'
05:03 PM Tom_L: for those that view join/part
05:04 PM unterhaus: I still have a drawing he did of me drowning in ribbon cables
05:04 PM unterhaus: I might be able to find it, maybe it's on dropbox
05:05 PM roycroft: if it is, he's lost a couple 'm's
05:08 PM unterhaus: I think he usually used 2 'm's
05:08 PM roycroft: could be
05:09 PM roycroft: it's been a long time, and i know it was more than one
05:09 PM unterhaus: often more
05:09 PM unterhaus: I think that 'm's accreted to his nic over the years
05:12 PM unterhaus: maybe that drawing he did was on photobucket
05:19 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (295KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/knSlIMHWLUHkstxtcVYznotF/20230309_171800.jpg >

05:28 PM Tom_L: i don't mind that one so much
05:31 PM Tom_L: you got the larger of those two you posted?
05:31 PM JT-Shop: ?
05:31 PM Tom_L: the light
05:31 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:32 PM JT-Shop: both the same diameter one longer than the other
05:32 PM JT-Shop: not a pocket light but a belt light

05:33 PM Tom_L: they sent me a link to some pen size yesterday
05:33 PM Tom_L: not especially bright but small
05:33 PM JT-Shop: got that handy
05:35 PM Tom_L: https://www.fenixlighting.com/products/fenix-t6-penlight?_pos=3&_sid=96ef0f8c6&_ss=r
05:35 PM XXCoder: fancy
05:35 PM Tom_L: on the tip and the side
05:35 PM XXCoder: reminded me of that tactic pen. slly idea, that

05:41 PM Tom_L: yesterday maybe
05:41 PM Tom_L: not here now but i wonder if it's the same one
05:41 PM JT-Shop: I saw that, has he spoke?

08:41 PM Lcvette[m]: anyone have any interest in test running the new qtpyvcp/probe basic dev installation?
08:41 PM XXCoder: someone here recently installed probe basic
08:41 PM XXCoder: forgot who tho
08:42 PM Lcvette[m]: this is the very new forst of its kind development install for debian 12
08:42 PM Lcvette[m]: python3.11 compatible
08:43 PM Lcvette[m]: so hopefully very future proofed
08:43 PM XXCoder: yah saw you guys talk about it for quite a while. I think its awesome, want to test it but no energy and space
08:57 PM roycroft: is that website an early april fool's joke, xxcoder8265?
08:57 PM XXCoder: no idea lol
08:57 PM * roycroft often can't tell any more

08:58 PM XXCoder: craftsman, hart, etc
08:58 PM XXCoder: theres DIY kits too :P
09:01 PM roycroft: why anyone would want to make that much noise on purpose boggles my mind
09:02 PM XXCoder: maybe to get rid of deer while working on wood project outside
09:04 PM roycroft: or maybe to be a dick
09:04 PM XXCoder: more likely
09:04 PM roycroft: which i suspect is the target demographic
09:04 PM XXCoder: if real product i have no idea
09:04 PM roycroft: anyway, there is weird stuff on the internet
09:58 PM roycroft: i like this
09:59 PM roycroft: i was just watching a video about nist
09:59 PM roycroft: the scientist who was being interviewed was asked why they measure thing in si units, when we use american customary units in this country
09:59 PM roycroft: his answer was great
10:00 PM roycroft: "well, the inch is defined in si unit termss, the inch is really just a weird metric unit"
10:00 PM roycroft: i like the "weird metric unit" bit
10:00 PM XXCoder: lol
10:01 PM roycroft: we're really metric in this country, but we measure things in 25.4ths!
