01:43 PM Lcvette[m]: too big jus costs more.. too small means complete redo
01:53 PM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, my first disk was going to be plywood for a proof of concept anyway
01:53 PM * Lcvette[m] uploaded an image: (28KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/CIHtyPVRqLEgzBpUXJAXRUmm/image.png >
01:53 PM skunkworks[m]: Tom_L: I think the logger is down.
01:53 PM travis_farmer[m]: the one of the wood in clamps, JT?
01:53 PM travis_farmer[m]: ok, thank you very much :-)
01:53 PM Lcvette[m]: just to check your maths.. 21.254 deg is the correct answer
01:53 PM Lcvette[m]: s/254/354/
01:53 PM Tom_L: mmm
01:53 PM Tom_L: i just restarted it
01:53 PM Tom_L: probably building an index
01:56 PM JT3196[m]: Is there a way to use Ethercat IO to do homing within LinuxCNC itself instead of using the CIA402 homing call?
01:58 PM JT-Shop: travis_farmer[m], yup
01:58 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, what brand was that flashlight?
01:59 PM Tom_L: fenix i think is how you spell it
01:59 PM JT-Shop: ok thanks
02:00 PM Tom_L: https://www.fenixlighting.com/
02:01 PM JT-Shop: found it
02:02 PM Tom_L: my headlamp take a single AA and has 3 settings
02:02 PM Tom_L: for what i need it works great
02:02 PM JT-Shop: I'm looking at rechargeable pocket flashlight
02:03 PM Tom_L: they have plenty to choose from
02:13 PM Tom_L: the first one is alot brighter
02:14 PM Tom_L: looks like they both have 6 settings
02:14 PM JT-Shop: yep and you get a free stensil
02:18 PM Tom_L: lcnc mascot?
02:19 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (387KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/iRNSJDdFvdMDXzODXGkwfJTz/20230306_141540_4601539843952926126.jpg >
02:19 PM skunkworks[m]: Tom_L: thanks!
02:21 PM Tom_L: hah
02:22 PM Tom_L: ordered one already?
02:22 PM JT-Shop: yup, just did
02:22 PM Tom_L: cool
02:23 PM * roycroft is leaning towards a little diode laser for wood engraving
02:23 PM JT-Shop: I probably find the one I lost now
02:23 PM roycroft: i keep hearing i should get a co2 laser, but i don't intend to do any cutting with it
02:23 PM JT-Shop: I wonder why my photo of the strips don't show up here?
02:23 PM roycroft: and i don't see the point of getting one that powerful if i just want to do some wood/leather engraving

02:29 PM unterhaus_: I wish I lived closer to pittsburgh. Their makerspace has an awesome laser
02:29 PM unterhaus_: it even says it will cut metal
02:30 PM unterhaus_: don't think I could regularly hack the 6 hour round trip
02:30 PM XXCoder: unless you hack spacetime
02:31 PM unterhaus_: too bad there's no train
02:31 PM unterhaus_: my client that had chest pains that were diagnosed as bronchitis almost died from blood clots in his lungs
02:32 PM XXCoder: ouch
02:32 PM unterhaus_: I am not sure he's out of the hospital yet
02:42 PM Tom_L: trains can't seem to make it thru Ohio... yet another one derailed
02:43 PM JT-Shop: Ohio not maintaining the tracks?
02:43 PM Tom_L: i thought the feds did that now
02:43 PM XXCoder: train companies being pretty bad on workers
02:43 PM JT-Shop: no clue
02:43 PM XXCoder: overworking and forcing them to work while sick
02:43 PM XXCoder: and cheating on safety stuff
02:49 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:57 PM unterhaus_: Train tracks are maintained by their owners, who also own the rights of way
02:57 PM unterhaus_: those tracks might not be NS owned though, I'm not sure
02:57 PM Tom_L: maybe it was a bad wheel and not the track?
03:03 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3oyFq4pIjU hah
03:03 PM XXCoder: probably earworm music or something
03:05 PM roycroft: hmm, that little laser thing i've been looking at can only be controlled with its proprietary app, which runs on android or ios and required a bluetooth connection
03:05 PM roycroft: that kind of sucks
03:06 PM XXCoder: often are. or very cheap ones that can be controlled by any gcode sender, but cant do what you want
03:08 PM roycroft: yeah, i think it's going to be hard to get something that does what i want for the price i want to pay
03:08 PM roycroft: i might be able to live with the bluetooth/app-based thing, as long as i can send it files
03:10 PM XXCoder: nothing stopping you from using used phone just for that
03:10 PM XXCoder: so you dont have it on your regular phone
03:10 PM roycroft: well i just got a cheap android tablet for some product development work
03:10 PM roycroft: and i won't be using it for that for very long, so that's an option
03:11 PM roycroft: i'd rather use a tablet than a phone because i'm old and my eyes don't work as well as they used to
03:11 PM XXCoder: good idea
04:33 PM * JT-Shop wonders if 5 hours in the clamps is enough time for the strips?
04:38 PM Tom_L: i would think so
04:39 PM JT-Shop: aye I'd like to get the other half glued up tonight so I can start processing them tomorrow
04:40 PM Tom_L: especially since it's going to sit overnite
04:42 PM roycroft: with titebond 30 minutes is usualy enough
04:43 PM roycroft: epoxy can take up to a week
04:43 PM roycroft: it all depends on the glue
04:44 PM JT-Shop: titebond III
04:45 PM * JT-Shop wishes fedex would show up so I can start gluing strips... I need the driver to pick up a shipment so I don't want to miss him
04:52 PM JT-Shop: what I don't want to do is to be gluing up strips and see the fedex truck on camera...
04:52 PM XXCoder: bring your work with you to arrival spot
04:52 PM XXCoder: seriously though yeah it sucks when you have to wait for delivery to arrive
04:58 PM roycroft: if you're just gluing up strips, then 30 minutes is enough for titebond iii unless it's really cool or humid
04:58 PM roycroft: if you're bending the strips around a form, you need a few hours
04:59 PM roycroft: i usually leave titebond in clamps for a couple hours
05:01 PM JT-Shop: they are just flat
05:09 PM roycroft: then they don't need a lot of clamp time
06:08 PM JT-Shop: second half is glued and clamped and it's time to call it a day
06:08 PM Tom_L: monday
07:32 PM perry_j1987: well that was fun. the controller that came with that taig i picked up gave up the ghost heh
07:32 PM perry_j1987: xylotex 4 axis card was in it

09:06 PM unterhausen: did the ghost look like a cloud of smoke?
09:07 PM XXCoder: im glad im on discord too so i can see context of that
09:16 PM unterhausen: I never think of looking on there
09:17 PM unterhausen: it says we're all bots
09:17 PM XXCoder: yeah its actually one bot
09:17 PM XXCoder: bridge bot
09:17 PM XXCoder: it changes nick as people talk so you see nicks of here
09:18 PM XXCoder: if you click on various comments, you will notice that it has profile name of last person who said something
09:53 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, any progress?
10:03 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, uh, what was I doing again :)
10:17 PM roguish[m]1: JT: another popcorn bowl ???
10:17 PM roguish[m]1: JT-Shop: JT check this out. look at the labels. it's a chicken. https://www.pruettwine.com/
10:17 PM roguish[m]1: that's my friend with the fancy fluffy chickens. when the chickens are out in the vineyard, they jump up at the low hanging grapes.
10:17 PM roguish[m]1: tooo much time is better, less messy, than not enough time
10:17 PM daight420[m]: I've tried googling what this error means and I'm finding a lot of nothing
10:17 PM * daight420[m] uploaded an image: (1660KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/puQlkNXPHaTOKsZDLPGYHFbM/20230306_201518.jpg >
10:17 PM daight420[m]: For some context in having a hard time turning my stepper for some reason probably because I had the wrong bit file loaded
10:18 PM daight420[m]: So I'm wondering if I damaged my mesacard
10:21 PM XXCoder: hope thats not the case
10:27 PM daight420[m]: Yea me too
11:57 PM roycroft: i'm close to deciding on a little laser engraver, but i'm not certain which of the two i'm looking at would be best
11:58 PM roycroft: one is 1600mw at 450nm, and the other is 500mw at 405nm
11:58 PM roycroft: the lower power one is $100 more but i've read that 405nm works a lot better on wood than 450nm
11:59 PM roycroft: i read that on the internet though
11:59 PM roycroft: so i don't know if it's true
