03:59 AM XXCoder: guy explains and makes parallel plier
04:46 AM travis_farmer[m]: G'Morning ☕️

05:19 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:36 AM Tom_L: morning
05:51 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:32 AM JT-Cave: finally a replacement kit is on the way...
06:33 AM travis_farmer[m]: starlink?
06:44 AM JT-Cave: yes
07:39 AM Tom_L: about time
07:44 AM CloudEvil: Yay. Hope it fixes it.
07:58 AM JT-Cave: me too
07:58 AM JT-Cave: see you in the shop
08:00 AM Tom_L: you just need something blue to cheer you up :)
08:00 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:06 AM JT-Shop: one fire going one to go
08:22 AM JT-Shop: this time I'll take a photo of the contents of the box I'm returning
08:37 AM Tom_L: good idea
08:38 AM Tom_L: would be nice to know what was wrong with the last one
08:38 AM Tom_L: so you can watch for that
08:38 AM JT-Shop: I doubt I'll find out anything
08:38 AM Tom_L: no i'm sure
08:39 AM Tom_L: you just need something blue to cheer you up :)
08:39 AM JT-Shop: we did get to meet the owner of Chaumette Vineyards yesterday, a real nice fellow
08:39 AM Tom_L: cool
08:39 AM JT-Shop: you got that right!
08:40 AM JT-Shop: next time we go back he is giving us a tour of the winery and tasting
08:40 AM JT-Shop: but time to clean chicken shit now
09:36 AM travis_farmer[m]: there, got the trash to the dump, and got a hair-cut... after lunch, i am ready to possibly work on my machine, if it warms up a bit. :-) i got some buttons delivered for my control panel. the industrial buttons were very pricy... i opted for some arcade buttons as they are cheap and supposedly can take a good slap. they are lit too, but 12V, and i don't have a 12V bus on my 7i73, so i may go without the light, or just try it on
09:36 AM travis_farmer[m]: 3.3V, see how bright it is. if it isn't a potted circuit in the LED part, maybe i can change the resistor...
09:38 AM roguish[m]1: shit howdy. my Facebook was hacked last night. someone or something sent a virus message to a lot of my contacts.......
09:38 AM travis_farmer[m]: dang, that sucks!
09:40 AM roguish[m]1: got a phone text from a friend asking if I sent the message. checked FB and found the mess. no clue how it happened. I don't use FB much, only to check in with friends around the world.
09:41 AM travis_farmer[m]: FB is so easily hacked, if it wasn't for family contact, i wouldn't use it...
09:42 AM roguish[m]1: pretty much the same here. just have friends all over the place...
09:52 AM JT-Shop: I only use facebook marketplace, my family and friend all have cell phones so texting them works well
09:52 AM * JT-Shop goes to make room for the horse drawn cart in the other shop
09:54 AM roguish[m]1: I only use it on my desktop computer. don't have the app or anything like it on my phone. just changed my passwordl had a strange login from LA. disconnected it.
09:54 AM travis_farmer[m]: JT-Shop: "horse drawn cart", is that an antique, or a reproduction?
09:56 AM Tom_L: may draw too much current
09:56 AM Tom_L: travis_farmer[m],
09:57 AM travis_farmer[m]: maybe, but a transistor could help that, if i bring in separate power. may not even use the button LEDs
11:55 AM travis_farmer[m]: well, it has warmed up to a balmy 16F, so far...
12:06 PM roguish[m]1: 42F
12:06 PM roguish[m]1: and I thought I was cold at 42....
12:07 PM travis_farmer[m]: :-)
12:12 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (297KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/oWKHnMdVzmoPgOnypqQohIwR/20230225_121039.jpg >
12:13 PM travis_farmer[m]: Hmmm, i haven't seen a horse with a trailer ball on it... ;-)
12:31 PM CloudEvil: Some have two.
12:57 PM c101horse8332[m]: i have, wheel horse's sometimes have trailer balls
01:34 PM JT[m]: LOL
02:41 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (332KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/NEiEXulzSzibTUZlscUOamFV/20230225_143943.jpg >
02:42 PM travis_farmer[m]: very nice JT :-)
02:43 PM XXCoder: whooo nice
02:43 PM XXCoder: amazing bow;
02:47 PM JT[m]1: So currently I'm trying to use a Raspberry Pi 4 as an ethercat master for linuxCNC but ideally I would want to put this on a KR260 Zynq FPGA using TSN NICs. Would I need to still run the RT kernel if the NICs support TSN?
02:47 PM travis_farmer[m]: found the issue with my flakey switch signal... wasn't the 7i73 or in HAL... the E-Stop switch i had was flakey...
02:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: EtherCat Sad Guy: latency on the Zynq wasn't that great, but I haven't looked at it much the past few years
02:53 PM KaiMo[m]: hi everyone, just a random question. I was just about to install linuxcnc on my raspberry pi, (downloaded the zip file a few times) but the image file is damaged and came across the link to the discord server. Has anyone an idea where I can download a working image for the raspberry. Many thanks in advance and highly appreciated.
02:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: KaiMo: which file did you use? Which Rpi4 do you have?
02:56 PM KaiMo[m]: rasp pi 4b
02:57 PM KaiMo[m]: its that link https://www.linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.8.1-pi4.zip
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: KaiMo: i see that is the one from the LCNC website
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: if it's damaged then you need to find out why it gets damaged
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: why do you think that it is damaged?
03:12 PM KaiMo[m]: during extraction of the Zip file, i get the information that it is damaged
03:21 PM InnerBushman[m]: you were right... gcc version 12.2.1 too old: skipping hal/user_comps/xhc-whb04b-6
03:22 PM InnerBushman[m]: it's outright skipping the component. that's why it's not in my file system
03:27 PM bushman is now known as Bushman
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: KaiMo: network problem or issue on your PC
03:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: EtherCat Sad Guy: you would have to port LCNC to Zynq as well as bunch of dependencies
03:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: EtherCat Sad Guy: and yes you'd still need an RT kernel
03:34 PM JT[m]1: CaptainHindsight the Zynq US CPU is the 22.04 ARM64 userspace, the only thing would be the RT kernel
03:34 PM JT[m]1: * CaptainHindsight (@_discord_702231000050040894:jauriarts.org) the Zynq, * is the ubuntu 22.04 ARM64
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: EtherCat Sad Guy:
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: also all the potential GPU issues
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: EtherCat Sad Guy: so try LCNC on it now, the sims should work, they don't need an RT kernel
03:37 PM JT[m]1: Okay, I'll give it a shot, I was just going to run everything through X11 redirection over SSH so having it have a head isn't an issue
03:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hey it's software, no such thing as no issues :)
03:56 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (352KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/QbUGHCOXYfStFcdCxqxjitmZ/20230225_155427.jpg >
03:56 PM XXCoder: shiny
03:56 PM XXCoder: heyyy i reconize the switch lol
03:56 PM XXCoder: I have same one on my 3d printer, for ikea lights
03:57 PM travis_farmer[m]: 🤩
03:58 PM JT[m]: First coat of Tried and True
03:58 PM travis_farmer[m]: "ikea lights"? does that mean you have to build the light-bulbs from a kit? ;-)
03:58 PM Bushman: JT[m]1: me gusta
03:58 PM XXCoder: travis_farmer[m]: connecting wires counts?
03:59 PM travis_farmer[m]: yes
03:59 PM XXCoder: then yes
03:59 PM travis_farmer[m]: 🤣
03:59 PM Bushman: JT[m]1: what's the finish? linseed oil?
04:00 PM travis_farmer[m]: Bushman: i think you have your "JT" mixed up... ;-)
04:02 PM JT[m]1: I tried changing my name in discord to prevent the confusion but maybe that's not reflected across the bridge
04:02 PM Bushman: i might be. who do i want to talk to?
04:02 PM Bushman: this amalgamation of IRC and discord is giving me headache
04:02 PM Bushman: and i'm on IRC for decades now.
04:02 PM XXCoder: JT[m]1: bridge uses your login name not nick
04:02 PM Bushman: hmm
04:03 PM InnerBushman[m]: test
04:03 PM Contract_Pilot: PLA and Lasers = Gooo https://youtu.be/Z2xzj7jC1SI
04:03 PM JT[m]1: DOH, My login is JT$ you are trying to talk to JET who is just JT lol
04:03 PM xxcoder8265[m]: also hi jt lol
04:04 PM Bushman: ok so JT[m]... tried and true, linseed oil?
04:05 PM XXCoder: can just say jt its always him we mean when we say jt ;)
04:06 PM Bushman: on unrelated note: this is stupid...
04:06 PM Bushman: gcc version 12.2.1 too old: skipping hal/user_comps/xhc-whb04b-6
04:06 PM Bushman: gcc (GCC) 12.2.1 20230111
04:06 PM * JT[m]1 uploaded an image: (1913KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/IOOIDNtpbmRoUnDMfpFXIfQL/IMG_1156.jpg >
04:06 PM JT[m]1: This is what I’m currently working on CoreXY PCB grabber bot
04:06 PM roycroft: jt usually uses tried and true varnish oil
04:06 PM Bushman: MIN_VERSION := 4.7
04:06 PM roycroft: based on my recommendation :)
04:07 PM Bushman: if minimal is 4.7 and my current is 12.whatever, why the hell is it skipping?!
04:09 PM Bushman: is there anyone even slightly more competent with compiling stuff that can explain what happened and why my compilation skips the pendant component alltogether?
04:09 PM Bushman: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/2.8/src/hal/user_comps/xhc-whb04b-6/Submakefile
04:10 PM Bushman: i'm to dumb to comprehend what is happening in there
04:10 PM Bushman: if it's not written in ladder, i'm lost XD
04:21 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:34 PM Bushman: jepler[m]: andypugh_: i've noticed you guys were the last editing this file on github. a friend told me the softing fails for some reason because 12 is higher on the list than 4. can this be fixed in the old version?
04:35 PM Bushman: it's done a little bit different in 2.9
04:36 PM Bushman: can this be back-ported to 2.8? so that it compiles with newer gcc too?
04:37 PM JT-Shop: there is a dev chanel #linuxcnc-devel
04:38 PM Bushman: yea, might be better if i ask there. thanks JT
04:38 PM JT-Shop: yw
04:38 PM XXCoder: jepler is still too busy to grant matrix permissions for bridge bot
04:38 PM XXCoder: (for dev channel)
04:39 PM Bushman: XXCoder: umm... what does that mean?
04:39 PM XXCoder: oh here we have bridge connecting irc to matrix to discord
04:39 PM XXCoder: dev doesnt still
04:40 PM XXCoder: theres people there though
04:41 PM JT[m]1: Pro tip... Don't install the ubuntu pro real time kernel on xilinx boards, they don't have a build for it.
04:41 PM JT-Shop: wtf
04:42 PM JT[m]1: It'll also entirely break your boot.
04:43 PM JT-Shop: that's not me btw
04:44 PM JT[m]1: @JT-Shop I tried to change my name on discord but it won't effect across the bot, my discord user Is JT$ but it just put it as JT.
04:45 PM XXCoder: like I said you'd have to change account nick, not server specific nick
04:45 PM JT[m]1: I'm not doing that lol. That will change my account name for everyone in PMs.
04:46 PM XXCoder: yeah then theres not much you can do
04:48 PM XXCoder: maybe you can do some minor change like JTX or something
04:48 PM JT[m]1: I mean the bot should be able to handle a $
04:48 PM JT[m]1: lol
04:48 PM JT[m]1: Or better yet it should just use display names from discord instead of the use ID
04:49 PM XXCoder: possibly not, different standards on nick
04:49 PM JT-Shop: bot is only as smart as the programmer
04:49 PM XXCoder: yeah tried to use $ in my nick it doesnt work
04:50 PM XXCoder: ok let me try something
04:50 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +o by ChanServ
04:50 PM XXCoder: ok say something
04:51 PM xxcoder8265[m]: say something for you to "rejoin" on irc
04:51 PM JT[m]1 is now known as JT3196[m]
04:51 PM JT3196[m]: Something?
04:52 PM XXCoder: ok it sorta worked
04:52 PM XXCoder: its now JT3196[m]
04:52 PM XXCoder: its now JT3196 with [m] so it differs enough
04:53 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to -o by ChanServ
04:53 PM XXCoder: not a best fix but well it works well enough lol
04:54 PM JT3196[m]: Depending on the bridge used it may just be a configuration change to use display instead of user
04:54 PM XXCoder: maybe dunno
04:54 PM XXCoder: i dont work on bridge
04:54 PM XXCoder: only bot I manage on discord is rss-master
05:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: we found that the bots have all sorts of issues with characters
05:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: they bots all drop posts or they stall from time to time
05:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: what do you want for free?
05:02 PM JT3196[m]: A ethercat driven unicorn please
06:17 PM * xxcoder8265[m] uploaded an image: (195KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/TFeUbmgrDdZduDOEczvvRnmC/IMG-20230225-WA0001.png >
06:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: looks like a wrench that prevents you from loosening things
06:45 PM CloudEvil: The right half may be a forgery.
06:53 PM XXCoder: wow watching blondihack I learned that siler soldering change its melting point once its been melted and cooled
06:53 PM XXCoder: increasing melt temp by a lot
07:05 PM JT3196[m]: Couldn't that just be the lack of flux allowing the thicker oxide layer to prevent proper thermal transfer?
07:06 PM XXCoder: dunno, I dont do soldering. someday I hope lol
07:07 PM JT3196[m]: I've done everything from SMD micro soldering to pipe and chassis soldering for old style RF gear. flux is key
07:08 PM JT3196[m]: There are some really fancy formulations that require a high frequency transducer to solder. Ben from applied sciences had a video about it for soldering to glass or alu.
07:45 PM XXCoder: interesting
08:05 PM Tom_L: will the real JT please stand up?
08:32 PM JT3196[m]: sits down
08:35 PM Tom_L: :)
