01:05 AM Deejay: moin
05:10 PM roycroft: that simplifies things, as most folks seem to have a hard time with dkim
05:10 PM roycroft: but spf is easy to break
05:10 PM roycroft: like
05:10 PM roycroft: just use mailchimp and you've broken spf if you're not careful
05:11 PM Tom_L: bjorkintosh, i was referring to the log not the gf
05:11 PM Tom_L: :)
05:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: where does illegitimate mail go?
05:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and why does the Des Moines Area Religious Council even care?
05:13 PM XXCoder: put in plane and sent back to orgin country
05:13 PM roycroft: back to the sender
05:14 PM roycroft: or dropped into an abyss
05:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah sounds religious
05:14 PM roycroft: sometimes it's hauled up to mount doom, and dropped into the molten lava, but that's only when the letter carriers are hobbitses
05:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: email sounds complicated
05:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: too many rituals
05:17 PM XXCoder: you cant just setup your own email server nowdays
05:17 PM XXCoder: most of big email servers would blcok you
05:17 PM roycroft: well, i still operate my own email servers
05:17 PM roycroft: but yes, it can be challenging to do so
05:18 PM roycroft: and i would not be able to do it from my home network, as i have residential cablemodem service, which is blocked almost universally, as xxcoder indicated
05:18 PM skunkworks: right - that is why we let someone else do it.. 99% of the time they have solved our issues.
05:19 PM roycroft: and what i mentioned may not be the problem
05:19 PM skunkworks: Thanks Tom_L
05:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: gmail is almost like email
05:19 PM roycroft: but it quite often is, and is one of the first things i look into when mail fails
05:19 PM Tom_L: yeah... sry
05:19 PM roycroft: gmail has an advantage over regular email - it is pre-read for you and anything interesting mined and put into the google databases
05:19 PM skunkworks: not a problem.
05:20 PM roycroft: so if you lose it, some day you may be able to google it and find it again
05:20 PM skunkworks: what!? google doesn't do that..
05:20 PM skunkworks: they told me so
05:21 PM roycroft: i have a bridge for sale ...
05:21 PM bjorkintosh: surely you're joking, Mr Skunkworks.
05:21 PM roycroft: it's a really nice one
05:21 PM bjorkintosh: that was their business model from the beginning.
05:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and even IF they did they would only do it to improve your experience and security
05:21 PM roycroft: i can let it go for only ONE MILLION DOLLARS
05:22 PM bjorkintosh: that way they could sell you targeted ads.
05:22 PM skunkworks: bjorkintosh: joking.
05:22 PM bjorkintosh: as noted :-)
05:26 PM skunkworks: roycroft: why would dig not work?
05:26 PM roycroft: what do you mean?
05:27 PM Lcvette[m]: pcw-home: \o/ Thanks again!! it was the TB3-19 TX-, all is back up configured, all the homes are setup to there original positions and everything works!! thank you very much for you help Peter, it is very much appreciated!
05:27 PM skunkworks: https://dpaste.com/2DER26JGS
05:27 PM skunkworks: no responce
05:27 PM skunkworks: * answer
05:28 PM roycroft: first of all, you're digging for an invalid hostname
05:29 PM skunkworks: https://pastebin.com/fshAN6xj
05:29 PM skunkworks: that is from here.
05:29 PM roycroft: you need to dig for na.nbhx.com, not na.nbhx
05:29 PM roycroft: and second, you're looking for mail records
05:30 PM skunkworks: roycroft: see my second paste.
05:30 PM roycroft: dig without a record type argument is looking for the ip address - the a record
05:30 PM skunkworks: ok
05:30 PM roycroft: and you don't need an a record for a mail lookup
05:30 PM roycroft: you want the mail handler
05:30 PM roycroft: so try "dig na.nbhx.com mx"
05:30 PM roycroft: that will find the mail exchangers for the domain
05:31 PM roycroft: ;; ANSWER SECTION:
05:31 PM roycroft: na.nbhx.com. 600 IN MX 5 na-nbhx-com.mail.protection.outlook.com.
05:31 PM skunkworks: again - thank you - I am not a versed in this.
05:31 PM roycroft: so it looks like outlook.com are handling your email
05:31 PM roycroft: right
05:31 PM roycroft: and i am
05:31 PM roycroft: so i'm helping you :)
05:31 PM roycroft: or trying to, at least
05:31 PM skunkworks: that is their email service
05:31 PM roycroft: so that is fine
05:31 PM skunkworks: they are using outlook
05:31 PM skunkworks: ok
05:32 PM roycroft: and you have an spf (sender policy framework) record that allows mail from your domain to be sent via outlook.com
05:32 PM roycroft: na.nbhx.com. 600 IN TXT "v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all"
05:32 PM roycroft: that's what that record indicates
05:33 PM roycroft: so if your mail always gets relayed through outlook.com, it should conform to your sender policy
05:33 PM skunkworks: ok!
05:34 PM roycroft: but if your mail ever gets sent through some other service, it will fail
05:35 PM roycroft: i would really need to see a bounce message with complete headers to start tracking this down
05:36 PM roycroft: and note that nbhx.com and na.nbhx.com have different spf policies:
05:37 PM roycroft: $ dig nbhx.com txt
05:37 PM roycroft: nbhx.com. 600 IN TXT "v=spf1 include:spf.nbhx.com -all"
05:59 PM XXCoder: very interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZC_hXx1_Yc
07:57 PM cradek: nowadays you need dkim as well as spf for the major players to deliver your mail. since I got both correctly configured (and dmarc to make sure the dkim is right and monitor it) I've had zero problems
08:11 PM pcw-home: I need to do that for our store, wish I understood it better...
08:11 PM bjorkintosh: XXCoder, that's pretty fucking clever.
08:12 PM XXCoder: yeah
08:12 PM bjorkintosh: damn.
08:20 PM Guest85: I need to upgrade my Pi to 2.8.4. Can anyone tell me where the linuxcnc apt repo is? thx
08:26 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/downloads/
08:27 PM Guest85: I need access to unreleased stuff; not to the official download page
08:28 PM Guest85: the latest official Pi release is 2.8.1
08:31 PM Guest85: On second thought I may be looking for a private dev repo that someone mentioned to me
08:40 PM bjorkintosh: Guest85, who?
08:40 PM Guest85: seb
08:45 PM Tom_L: the only 2.8.4 i'm familiar with is the one andy put out
08:56 PM Guest85: OK thanks; I thought the repo was more public than it probably is
10:13 PM roycroft: raquel welch has left the building
