12:24 AM travis_farmer[m]: lol, evry time i see about a dual boot between linux and windows, i wonder if "duel boot" would be a better term ;-)
05:32 PM Tom_L: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/24-hal-components/47991-orient?start=10#262834
05:33 PM Tom_L: hopefully the log got it now
05:33 PM JT-Cave: seems like it
05:33 PM Tom_L: may look at it this evening.
05:33 PM Tom_L: been under the weather a bit
05:34 PM JT-Cave: yuck, I hate that
05:34 PM Tom_L: the kids shared with me
05:34 PM * JT-Cave will be a bit uneasy for the next 8 days lol
05:35 PM Tom_L: the 3 & 4 yr old
05:35 PM JT-Cave: oh fun from the birthday party?
05:35 PM Tom_L: waiting to hear on the C8?
05:35 PM Tom_L: probably
05:36 PM JT-Cave: the allocation list comes out next Thursday
05:36 PM Tom_L: wonder how quick they go
05:36 PM JT-Cave: he said we have to act fast
05:36 PM Tom_L: gotta run to the store.. bbl
05:36 PM JT-Cave: night
06:20 PM roycroft: allocation list for what?
06:20 PM Tom_L: C8
06:21 PM roycroft: what is that?
06:25 PM Tom_L: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/583638432945933433/
06:25 PM roycroft: oh, a fast car
06:25 PM roycroft: nice looking one, too
06:26 PM Tom_L: fast enough for an ole phart
06:27 PM roycroft: i had a good friend who had a 'vette
06:28 PM roycroft: i rode in it a few times
06:28 PM roycroft: he was an excellent driver, so it was not scary when he was going 100mph+, but the g forces when going around curves was uncomfortable
06:28 PM roycroft: i guess an old putt-putt vw driver has a hard time living life in the fast lane
06:31 PM Tom_L: put a 912 engine in a vw and you got something too
06:32 PM Tom_L: err no, i'm thinking of the 4cyl one... 256 maybe
06:34 PM Tom_L: 356?
06:36 PM Tom_L: ~120hp compared to the stock 40 hp vw
06:37 PM roycroft: the 914 engine and the 2.0l vw engine are the same engine design
06:37 PM roycroft: the 914 engine is just made to tighter tolerances
06:38 PM Tom_L: 914 was a fire hazzard
06:38 PM roycroft: the 914 was the mid-engine porsche
06:38 PM Tom_L: is that the squarish one?
06:38 PM Tom_L: yes
06:38 PM Tom_L: injector leaks
06:38 PM roycroft: another similarity to the vw :)
06:38 PM roycroft: the elevated fuel tank in a vw makes it a fire hazard as well
06:39 PM roycroft: especially since so many vw owners never inspected or replaced their fuel lines
06:49 PM Tom_L: we used to pull the injecton off and put dual webbers on those
07:08 PM unterhausen: Tom_L are you getting snow?
07:26 PM roycroft: ok, florida is not the only state with crazies
07:26 PM roycroft: we have a new contender
07:26 PM roycroft: KANSAS MAN SHOT BY DOG
07:26 PM roycroft: :)
07:26 PM roycroft: a hunter in kansas was killed when his dog stepped on his gun, causing it to discharge
07:27 PM XXCoder: not first time, nor last
07:27 PM XXCoder: I remember one where dog stepped on leaning rifle on fence and shot owner to death
07:31 PM Tom_L: unterhausen, a little this afternoon but it's just rain now
07:33 PM XXCoder: roycroft: reminded me of this https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50180755
07:33 PM Tom_L: ground was thawed so it didn't stay around long
07:37 PM roycroft: xxcoder: my vinyl cutter comes with some windows-based software
07:38 PM XXCoder: yours should have some linux programs also
07:38 PM roycroft: i'm thinking of installing that on the dual-boot laptop so i can at least check out the vinyl cutter without having to deal with the os upgrade
07:38 PM XXCoder: not offical but yeah
07:38 PM roycroft: yes, inkscape
07:38 PM XXCoder: nice
07:38 PM roycroft: but i can't run the version with the vinyl cutter extension on the os version i have
07:38 PM roycroft: it doesn't really matter that i make sure it works, i guess
07:39 PM roycroft: since i can't return it
07:39 PM roycroft: and i alreay got my money back for it
07:39 PM roycroft: but i would like to know soon if it works
07:39 PM XXCoder: I suppose but id try anyway. your laptop too old or?
07:39 PM roycroft: the os is old, and hard to upgrade
07:39 PM roycroft: i need to do a fresh debian install, and it's tricky doing that without nuking the windows partition
07:40 PM XXCoder: yeah its why I prefer to have only one os
07:40 PM roycroft: i'm more concerned about having to do that windows reinstall than anything, although i rarely boot windows on it
07:40 PM XXCoder: if I needed windows I could either reuse my former vp computer or linuxcnc pc fixed up
07:40 PM roycroft: well i have an hour and a half or so of elections work to do tonight, so i'll probably have time after that to work with the vinyl cutter
07:41 PM roycroft: besides knowing if it works or not i really want to see what kind of detal i can get with it
07:42 PM roycroft: the dro for my mill spindle showed up today too
07:42 PM roycroft: so i have to install that at some point
07:44 PM XXCoder: dro specifically for spindle? like rpm and tlo?
07:48 PM roycroft: no, it's actually a drill press dro
07:48 PM roycroft: like a digital caliper
07:48 PM roycroft: cheap but reasonably accurate
07:48 PM roycroft: and it will get me by for a while
07:48 PM XXCoder: ahh nice
08:35 PM roycroft: eek
08:36 PM roycroft: -7 in the forecast for sunday, and snow
08:36 PM roycroft: that would be the coldest day this winter
08:59 PM unterhausen: is that storm over Tom_L's house the remnants of a hurricane?
09:20 PM unterhausen: some days I shouldn't read the ML. Like days that end in 'y'
