01:03 AM Deejay: moin
02:05 AM norias: heh
03:48 AM travis_farmer[m]: Wow, you folks are far too active for this early... Calm Down! ;-)
04:18 AM travis_farmer[m]: i read on my spoilboard surfacing bit that it is actually rated for 24000rpm! seems a little scary, to be honest. i think it is about 2" in diameter, with replaceable carbide inserts (Amana Tools). i don't think i would dare run it over 10000 - 12000rpm, for fear of an insert flying off.
04:35 AM Tom_L: morning
04:47 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:57 AM JT-Cave: Bleepshop, you need some of those dc fuse holders?
04:58 AM srk- is now known as srk
05:09 AM srk- is now known as srk
05:25 AM travis_farmer[m]: i think, unless i get distracted, my task today will be to re-do the analog control wires to my VFD with shielded twisted pair (STP CAT5e, as i have a bunch). that way maybe i will have a stable analog readout of the VFD speed output. the analog control signal from my PWM to 0-10v module, is pretty stable, but could benefit from shielding i think.
05:26 AM travis_farmer[m]: just debating on if STP would be better, or if COAX cable would be better. not CableTV cable, but i have some old smaller COAX from my analog security cameras that i no longer use.
06:00 AM sensille: in my understanding twisted pair only really makes sense with differential signals
06:02 AM travis_farmer[m]: so maybe i will go with the coax then.
06:16 AM jpa-: considering you have the isolated 0-10V input module, it is close to differential - but any kind of shielded cable will have a benefit
06:27 AM sensille: only if you have only one signal, or each signal has a separate ground
07:29 AM * travis_farmer[m] prepares to head out to shop
07:40 AM * travis_farmer[m] is in shop...
08:56 AM travis_farmer[m]: very odd, LCNC failed to stop when i exited, and i had to completely reboot...
08:56 AM sensille: with mb2hal involved?
08:57 AM travis_farmer[m]: could be, i forgot to disable it...
09:07 AM JT-Shop: halrun -U
09:32 AM travis_farmer[m]: how do i get LCNC/qtdragon to get spindle-at-speed from an input pin, not the comparison of the set speed and displayed speed? i have a hardware pin set to spindle.0.at-speed, but the at-speed LED is lit green as soon as the spindle starts
09:33 AM sensille: ha, that's where i left off yesterday
09:33 AM sensille: at least i got the probe-"LED" to work
09:35 AM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, that works on mine too
09:36 AM zephyr9900: travis_farmer[m] are you using pyvcp?
09:37 AM travis_farmer[m]: no
09:45 AM travis_farmer[m]: i suppose i could write a simple comp that didn't send the spindle rpm to the display until the at-speed pin was true... kind of a workaround
09:46 AM JT-Shop: travis_farmer[m], you might have to ask questions about that gui on the forum
09:46 AM travis_farmer[m]: maybe...
10:17 AM sensille: travis_farmer[m]: did you manage to get manual toolchange to work?
10:18 AM travis_farmer[m]: what do you mean?
10:21 AM sensille: i want TxM6 to move the spindle to the change position, give me a prompt, and then at least go to the tool sensor location. currently qtdragon_hd just hangs on M6
10:22 AM sensille: on 2.8 it at least partially worked
10:25 AM travis_farmer[m]: i had a M6 remap a while ago that i got from funkenjaeger (on LCNC discord), but i haven't played with it much since the ATC spindle purchase. been busy getting that hooked up. i suspect it will need to be re-written for automatic tool change anyway
10:27 AM sensille: ah, so you haven't arrived there yet
10:32 AM travis_farmer[m]: i was there, but it has fallen out of maintenance, so i doubt it works correctly right now. i haven't even re-mounted the new tool sensor yet (last one died)
11:12 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, should i rebuild now?
11:14 AM roycroft: amazon are officially on crack
11:14 AM Tom_L: seems most issues are board specific pinoutss
11:14 AM roycroft: i just got a shipping notice on another vinyl cutter that they are sending me at no charge
11:14 AM Tom_L: so it more than half the rest of the world
11:14 AM roycroft: i did not request one
11:14 AM roycroft: i don't know what i'll do with it
11:14 AM Tom_L: sell the one with missing parts on ebay
11:14 AM roycroft: they have already issued a refund on the one they told me to keep
11:15 AM Tom_L: must be a great business model... look how they're growing
11:15 AM roycroft: yeah, i mean, i understand the business model
11:15 AM roycroft: the non-profit i work for is philantropic in nature
11:16 AM roycroft: our job is to give money away
11:16 AM roycroft: i'm not sure amazon's model exactly matches ours, though
11:16 AM roycroft: and we're actually philanthropic
11:16 AM roycroft: but some of our members are philantropic
11:17 AM roycroft: a former treasurer is in hawaii right now, as a matter of fact
11:17 AM roycroft: and our board president is in mexico right now
11:17 AM roycroft: and i have had to temporarily mail ballots to several members who are in costa rica for the winter
11:19 AM Tom_L: all better places to be than here atm
12:13 PM roycroft: yes
12:13 PM roycroft: i am philantropic myself, but do not have the means to go south for the winter
12:38 PM sensille: wow, the remap chapter is long
12:47 PM Tom_L: sensille, you doing remap as well?
12:49 PM sensille: i just try to get a tool change procedure to work. the qtdragon states a remap line to configure, but it doesn't work. so i set out to understand how it is supposed to work
12:49 PM Tom_L: that is rather extensive
12:49 PM sensille: linuxcnc is vast
12:51 PM Tom_L: what issue are you having and what do you want to change from the regular M6?
12:52 PM Tom_L: are you using the standard manualtoolchange ?
12:52 PM sensille: the standard is just a prompt to change the tool now, correct?
12:53 PM Tom_L: yes
12:53 PM Tom_L: i've got my orient real close to working using the M6 remap if you want a look
12:54 PM sensille: my expectation is: run the head to fixed position where i can easily access the tool, prompt for the change, and the initiate an automatic tool length probing
12:55 PM Tom_L: M19 has been giving me fits so far
12:55 PM sensille: (and go slow for the last few centimeters before the sensor so i can hit emergency stop)
01:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/cincinnati/Starrrag_Ecospeed.jpg
01:02 PM Tom_L: their 6 axis.. about a city block long
01:07 PM Tom_L: sensille, this has the remap hooks: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL_ORIENT/
01:07 PM Tom_L: in the ini
01:07 PM Tom_L: the do your changes in change.ngc or whatever you call it
01:08 PM roycroft: i think my pickup needs new batteries
01:08 PM roycroft: what do folks like for big engines like that?
01:08 PM roycroft: they are group 65
01:27 PM travis_farmer[m]: i think nothing less than some Energizer D-cells. stack enough in parallel, and you are good to go ;-)
01:30 PM roycroft: my engine would be happy with about 1000 cca
01:30 PM roycroft: so 500 per battery
01:32 PM sensille: Tom_L: thanks
01:33 PM travis_farmer[m]: i would think it would be happier with both batteries around 1000 cca. my small (5.3l) V8 has a 900-something cca battery, IIRC
01:35 PM roycroft: it well might
01:35 PM roycroft: and since i'll be occasionally using a winch with it, the more power the better
01:35 PM roycroft: this engine is a monster
01:36 PM roycroft: 7.3l
01:36 PM roycroft: and it's diesel, so high compression
01:36 PM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, i would say a pair of at-least 1000 cca batteries
01:37 PM travis_farmer[m]: gear reduction starter?
01:38 PM roycroft: it cranks slower than i think it should, but that could be because the batteries are shot
01:38 PM roycroft: i have a battery charger on it right now, and i plugged in the block heater, but i'm not sure that will do any good
01:38 PM roycroft: if it has a thermostat it won't kick in, because it's well above freezing
01:38 PM roycroft: but it is still pretty cool
01:39 PM travis_farmer[m]: gear reduction usualy cranks faster as the starter motor has less load, so i would say not gear reduction
01:39 PM travis_farmer[m]: get as many cca as it can hold ;-)
02:20 PM travis_farmer[m]: well, i JUST tried mb2hal with my Arduino ModBus test project... it WORKED PERFECTLY!!! i could write a coil to the Arduino onboard LED (pin 13), and read the values from any of the 16 analog inputs!!! i am so positively HAPPY right now! :-)
02:22 PM travis_farmer[m]: and with it sitting right beside my VFD while it was running, without a hiccup... i was worried the VFD would cancel it out.
02:23 PM travis_farmer[m]: anyway, heading back inside to the heat, so i can plan what to do with this project :-)
03:24 PM Tom_L: sensille, you need remap.py & toplevel.py in the home dir and remap_lib folder in the nc_files folder
03:31 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, yes
03:31 PM Tom_L: you get a min and are interested, take a peek at my config. i can't figure out what i'm missing
03:32 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL_ORIENT/
03:32 PM Tom_L: all the hooks work. the button & M6 remap but all i get from orient is a timeout with no rotation
03:37 PM JT-Shop: ok, gotta clean the MAF sensor the damn check engine light came on again
03:37 PM Tom_L: no rush, it ain't movin anywhere
03:49 PM travis_farmer[m]: i didn't think you were supposed to clean MAF sensors... i thought that ruined them... maybe that was only if you used solvents on them...
03:50 PM XXCoder: needs specialist cleaner
03:50 PM XXCoder: if I recall right
03:50 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, #86 up
03:50 PM * travis_farmer[m] is daydreaming about a tool changer system, controlled by an Arduino :-)
03:51 PM travis_farmer[m]: maybe, XX, i am no mechanic, just going on what i heard on YouTube. and the internet never lies ;-)
03:51 PM XXCoder: pretty sure its electric cleaner thing, I cleaned maf one time but its more than decade ago
03:52 PM XXCoder: theres MAF cleaner. specifically MAF cleaner
04:32 PM JT-Shop: ok thanks
04:37 PM Tom_L: thank me by fixing this config! i'm stuck :)
04:37 PM Tom_L: actually i've made progress in it every day so far but i'm to the end i hope
04:37 PM XXCoder: awesome
04:38 PM XXCoder: I hope I finally put the end to reboots also. fixed ram timings
04:38 PM Tom_L: there's a GUI button to do the initial index pulse then M6 does the toolchange ones
04:40 PM _unreal_: I'm trying to find this only as a "THUNDERBOLT" version https://c1.neweggimages.com/ProductImageCompressAll1280/AP81D2009024QVUD.jpg
04:42 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Vebner-6-Inch-Extra-Short-Cable/dp/B099BXM2QH
04:42 PM Tom_L: wrong gender
04:43 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/thunderbolt-3-extension-cable/s?k=thunderbolt+3+extension+cable
04:45 PM * travis_farmer[m] wonders now if that port he never uses is a thunderbolt 3 port...
04:48 PM _unreal_: needs to be the 90 degree version like the picture I posted
04:48 PM _unreal_: straight wont fit
04:58 PM JT-Shop: well don't ever let one of the metal straps fall off the lower air filter housing on a C5! it's a bugger to get back on...
05:03 PM Tom_L: heh
05:04 PM Tom_L: i should take a video of the hal show pins so i can follow the sequence easier
05:05 PM travis_farmer[m]: should i be worried about downloading a file that is 666Kb in size? ;-) not a religious person, but maybe a little superstitious...
05:19 PM JT-Woodshop: Tom_L, are you using a servo driven spindle or a vfd?
05:48 PM Tom_L: vfd
05:48 PM Tom_L: to a bldc
05:48 PM Tom_L: with an encoder on the spindle back to lcnc
05:49 PM Tom_L: once things settle here a bit, i'll try to get a video sequence from hal show
06:08 PM Tom_L: initial index pulse sequence: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Oqihu1sRmYU
06:08 PM Tom_L: M6 remap sequence: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XAoWTIGswPk
06:11 PM Tom_L: yt decided to format them crappy
10:22 PM Bleepshop: Holy Crap what a day.
10:25 PM Bleepshop: Between 11:00 and 17:00 I worked on 3 wood splitters of which 2 needed main ram replacement in the field, a forklift, a dump truck and designed an adapter mount to make the forks fit the Liugong loader better.
10:27 PM Bleepshop: JT-Woodshop: Yeah, I want to fuse all the DC busses in my machine.
