12:47 AM Doc[m]1 is now known as Doc4133[m]
12:04 PM Tom_L: .
12:05 PM sensille: for qtdragon e93baec245eb fixed it in the past, i use qtdragon_hd, but the code looks different
12:05 PM sensille: ah, no. it might be applied there also
12:07 PM travis_farmer[m]: i think, like DigitalReaper said, it may be looking for a external drive. it doesn't figure gcode will be stored locally i guess
12:07 PM sensille: warning is gone, no idea if it broke anything though
12:08 PM sensille: travis_farmer[m]: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/e93baec245ebe9ee19859ac0e44e33a286156b05 for the non-hd qtdragon
12:10 PM travis_farmer[m]: Hmmm, i will look into that when i next go out to the shop. would save the annoyance
12:15 PM travis_farmer[m]: the more i look over this Arduino ModBus slave project ( https://github.com/CMB27/ModbusRTUSlave ), the more ideas i get from it. like if i build my own tool changer system, i could control it via ModBus, so it could work independently, if needed. that is, assuming it works better than the last project i screwed up (connected to 12V rather than 5V)
12:21 PM sensille: travis_farmer[m]: i recently wired my 24V water pump to 230V. at least i got immediate feedback what i did wrong ...
12:22 PM travis_farmer[m]: i bet it pumped real fast, for a very short time ;-)
12:22 PM sensille: dunno, couldn't see in the dark
12:23 PM travis_farmer[m]: Ahh, right, there is that too...
12:24 PM sensille: at least the relay survived it
12:25 PM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, that is certainly lucky
12:30 PM travis_farmer[m]: i doubt i will ever have the funds to build it, but thinking about a matrix style tool magazine: it doesn't need to be very rigid, so i could build it with hardware normally used for a 3d printer. i just need an X and Y, with a Z to extract the tool holder, and bring it to the change location. i am really just dreaming here, but i wonder why nobody seems to make matrix tool magazines? seems real easy, in thought anyway.
12:54 PM sensille: the advantage of using this frontend: after i'm done setting it up, i'm a full fledged lcnc developer
12:58 PM travis_farmer[m]: purely hypothetical question: if i make a changer system with prefetch, how does LCNC know what tool to prefetch? does the CAM post set that up, and i just haven't seen the option yet?
12:59 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: The CAM needs to set that up. I have my post set to call T<next_tool> after each M06 call. So the prefetch happens while the current tool is in use.
01:01 PM travis_farmer[m]: oh, so "M6 T4"? i kina always put the tool after the M6 normally... was i doing it wrong all allong? was a normal tool change supposed to be "T4 M6"?
01:02 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: No. The next tool needs to be on the line after the M06. So M06
01:02 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Then T<next_tool>
01:02 PM travis_farmer[m]: ahh, ok
01:03 PM travis_farmer[m]: can you tell i have never setup a post for tool changing? ;-)
01:03 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: If it is on the same line, the T word will be executed before the M06. It doesn't matter where it is on the line.
01:04 PM travis_farmer[m]: ok, that clears it up immensely :-)
01:14 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: See: https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode/overview.html#_g_code_order_of_execution
01:35 PM JT-Shop: anyone that calls my phone twice and does not leave a message gets blocked
01:36 PM travis_farmer[m]: sorry, i was trying to call the chickens...
01:39 PM JT-Shop: they have a different number...
01:39 PM JT-Shop: this last call was from Maine
01:40 PM travis_farmer[m]: must have been from Gov Janet Mills then, my number caller id says it is from the moon ;-)
01:40 PM roycroft: you should play "ain't nobody here but us chickens" as your voicemail greeting
01:42 PM JT-Shop: lol
01:49 PM JT-Woodshop: opp's my patriot jaws only go to 4.75" and my first layer is 5.25"
01:49 PM roycroft: omg
01:49 PM roycroft: the muppets did a cover of that song
01:49 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TseuPf76gvc
01:54 PM travis_farmer[m]: it occurred to me that i could actually build a matrix tool magazine for not much money (in the far future), using a ModBus controlled arduino, that controls a GRBL based pick and place tool magazine, with a few extra actuators... so it COULD be done, but only after i am making loads of money ;-) keep in mind, i don't NEED a massive matrix tool changer, but the idea of it sounds like a very interesting challenge. normally i shy away
01:54 PM travis_farmer[m]: from a strong challenge, but this has my mind going a mile a minute :-)
01:56 PM roycroft: what are the criteria for selecting the blue tool vs the red tool?
01:57 PM travis_farmer[m]: matrix joke, i presume? ;-)
01:58 PM roycroft: of course
01:58 PM roycroft: i never miss an opportunity
01:59 PM travis_farmer[m]: the blue tool, cuts just the same as it always did. the red tool however will open up a massive new experience in cutting wood. ;-)
02:00 PM roycroft: so i need that lead shield after all, if you select the red tool?
02:00 PM travis_farmer[m]: maybe better go for kevlar ;-)
02:01 PM roycroft: i'll wrap the lead shield with kevlar
02:01 PM roycroft: leaving an air gap between the two
02:01 PM travis_farmer[m]: just don't get lead poisoning ;-)
02:01 PM roycroft: i have gloves and a respirator
02:02 PM roycroft: and if the kevlar doesn't quite fit i promise i won't gnaw away at the lead to adjust it
02:02 PM roycroft: even though it would be sweet and tasty
02:04 PM * travis_farmer[m] wonders where his horde of MAX485 ICs went... i really need a better cataloging system...
02:08 PM unterhaus: autodesk thinks I'm going to pay $50 a month
02:08 PM unterhaus: surely they know I haven't used it in a long time
02:10 PM roycroft: that's what they think today
02:10 PM roycroft: should you start sending them the $50, they might well think you'll pay $75/month and demand that
02:11 PM roycroft: meanwhile, i need a new battery for my mitutoyo digital calipers
02:12 PM roycroft: i'm still on the original battery, and it's lasted about 7 years, so i'm not complaining about that
02:12 PM roycroft: but yesterday when i went to the market to get one, the battery display had huge price tags hanging over the batteries so that i could not see what was what
02:12 PM roycroft: and when i reached in to pull a battery pack forward to see what's in it i found that they were all locked
02:12 PM roycroft: so i would have had to get an employee to get the one i wanted
02:13 PM roycroft: but there were about 100 pegs on the display, and no way to see what was hanging on each peg
02:13 PM roycroft: i guess they don't want to sell batteries
02:13 PM travis_farmer[m]: i pay nothing for Fusion360 (personal/non-commercial version)
02:15 PM roycroft: today
02:15 PM roycroft: you could get an email tomorrow saying "nice files you have stored with us. it would be a shame if anything happened to them ..."
02:16 PM travis_farmer[m]: true... i backup the important ones
02:31 PM * travis_farmer[m] could have sworn he had about 100 MAX485 ICs... dang crappy filing system
03:45 PM zephyr9900: DigitalReaper paper worked fine. But I did also use 0.2" step downs. The part did not move.
03:46 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:48 PM zephyr9900: DigitalReaper but the coolant wicked in about 1/8" on all sides.
04:12 PM JT-Shop__ is now known as JT-Shop
04:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:29 PM JT-Shop: lee valley has acquired hock tools
04:29 PM Tom_L: think i have the M6 sub ready to try
04:29 PM travis_farmer[m]: i think i heard that somewhere
04:32 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, do you have the hardware to try it out?
04:32 PM Tom_L: yes
04:32 PM roycroft: yes, i got the email about that yesterday
04:32 PM Tom_L: i tested the first part already
04:32 PM JT-Shop: cool
04:32 PM roycroft: i read that as "ron finally gets to retire"
04:33 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:33 PM roycroft: and i'm happy for him
04:33 PM roycroft: and happy that he sold to lee valley
04:33 PM Tom_L: but it needs a little tweaking and i need to make sure M19 is actually firing
04:33 PM Tom_L: the latest hal is on the server
04:34 PM Tom_L: he waits on a return pin and i need to figure that part out still
04:34 PM Tom_L: M66 P5 L3 Q3
04:35 PM Tom_L: haven't found the pin yet
04:36 PM JT-Shop: the pin name?
04:36 PM Tom_L: motion.digital-in-05 probably
04:37 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:37 PM Tom_L: but it will be 00 or 01 on mine
04:38 PM Tom_L: kinda going back n forth between chores atm so i'm not full on working on it
04:38 PM JT-Shop: 5 won't be there unless you add more
04:38 PM Tom_L: right
04:38 PM * JT-Shop it wiring up a panel for the double chucker
04:38 PM Tom_L: but his code will make mention of it somewhere
04:39 PM Tom_L: you should look at his files if you haven't.. very well organized and damn complex
04:40 PM travis_farmer[m]: can't be as organized as mine... ;-)
04:43 PM JT-Shop: there was a guy from iceland that had a plasma config that was so complex it took a d size plotter to print it out
04:43 PM travis_farmer[m]: sounds easy to debug
04:43 PM Tom_L: it's a good way to learn new things
04:44 PM Tom_L: a life goal is to learn at least 1 new thing every day
04:44 PM * travis_farmer[m] is not new to organization, just afraid of it ;-)
04:47 PM JT-Shop: my motto is never stop learning
04:48 PM travis_farmer[m]: well, time to go out to eat. supper at my 93 year-old granny's.
04:50 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: when the forums slow down for a few minutes from time to time is due to high loads on its server?
04:56 PM JT-Shop: or your connection
04:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop: maybe back near the host
04:57 PM JT-Shop: could be
04:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: asking in case anyone has ever looked at the forum server stats, likely NO
04:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's pretty zippy most of the time, I notice it might get really slow for a minute or two from time to time, especially searches
04:59 PM JT-Shop: I don't have access to that part, almost everything else I can see
05:05 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day

07:00 PM _unreal_: shhhhhhhhh
07:03 PM roycroft: don't wake the wabbit
07:50 PM _unreal_: Just got a new SAT to tear down.
07:50 PM _unreal_: ....? anyone looking to build a rotary tool changer tray?
07:51 PM _unreal_: I just got? two timing belt driven bearing mounted trays
07:52 PM _unreal_: ?
08:28 PM Bleepshop: _unreal_: Was it you that was saying that you've got buckets of DIN rail stuff?
08:37 PM * Bleepshop is kind of in shock.
08:38 PM Bleepshop: Boss bitches at me to wear a hardhat and then hands me a $190 Lift Fifty 50 Carbon Fiber.
08:39 PM XXCoder: unreal works at some rich yachts place if I remember right as they trash all kinds of expensive stuff all time
08:39 PM Bleepshop: I think the crazy bastards are trying to keep me alive. LOL
08:39 PM XXCoder: dude
08:39 PM XXCoder: if you need it, wear it
08:39 PM Bleepshop: https://liftsafety.com/collections/head-protection/products/dax-fifty-50-carbon-fiber-br-full-brim-hardhat
08:41 PM Bleepshop: I bash my fricking head more wearing while wearing one than I do without. It's the difference between the size of my head and the size of the hardhat.
08:58 PM Tom_L: you feel safer so your less aware of danger
08:59 PM Tom_L: corporate from Ca came into town and made my kid go get one
08:59 PM Tom_L: since they left, nobody wears em
09:03 PM unterhaus: I found out that some universities would make us wear hard hats and steel toed boots in our lab
09:03 PM unterhaus: in 30 years that wouldn't have stopped a single injury.
09:03 PM Tom_L: they pretty much banned steel toe here in favor of carbon fiber now
09:04 PM unterhaus: why? apocryphal stories of the steel cutting off your toes?
09:04 PM Tom_L: i guess
09:04 PM Tom_L: they don't bounce back if they get crushed
09:04 PM unterhaus: I suppose carbon fails better
09:05 PM unterhaus: I thought some places won't accept carbon, but since I never had to use them I wouldn't know
09:07 PM XXCoder: just glad I wore protected toes boots for most of my work at shop
09:07 PM XXCoder: dropepd few stuff into toes
09:07 PM XXCoder: including one block bar of alum. that was fun
09:07 PM XXCoder: scarred my boots good
09:08 PM unterhaus: I need boots with the flap that goes up your shin
09:10 PM unterhaus: maybe just ones like this https://ironagefootwear.com/groundbreaker-ia5017/
10:10 PM _unreal_: Bleepshop, yes
10:11 PM _unreal_: Bleepshop, what are you looking for? I ... have more or les some of everything
10:11 PM _unreal_: except rail.
10:11 PM _unreal_: I have little very little in the way of din rail its self. Its almost always rivited so I just pull the parts.
10:12 PM _unreal_: din relays, timers, standard din bank wire connectors. din serial, PLC's
10:13 PM _unreal_: hell I just got a 30v AC to DC 30v 4 amp DIN rail psu. using that with my micro dust collector.
10:16 PM _unreal_: If a carbon TOE vs a steel toe fails... is that REALLY? a win.....
10:16 PM XXCoder: steel deforms so they will have to work hard to extract toes
10:17 PM XXCoder: which may result with it being too late kind of thing
10:17 PM XXCoder: also if I recall right, carbon toe is a lot more stronger
10:21 PM _unreal_: one thing is for sure that stock I was talking about. looks I picked a winner. Its a total lottery ticket at this point
10:22 PM _unreal_: #mmtlp #finrafraud is trending massive. its bigger then FTX and madeoff comebind
10:22 PM _unreal_: and the media wont cover it
10:22 PM XXCoder: im very deep into dont care land
10:24 PM _unreal_: oooo thats a fast endless waste land
10:24 PM _unreal_: VAST
10:25 PM _unreal_: god my right eye is driving me crazy. got a tiny aluminum partical from grinding in my eye. through my @%@#$$#@ PPE
10:25 PM XXCoder: my glasses once got strached by steel chip
10:25 PM XXCoder: on front. which was protected by plastic ppe goggle
10:26 PM XXCoder: dont ask me how, I don't know either
10:29 PM Bleepshop: _unreal_: I need some fuseholders and I/O modules.
10:30 PM Bleepshop: Although a PLC sounds amusing. LOL
10:30 PM _unreal_: fuse holders you'd have to send me a link to see what kind. What kind of I/O modules are you looking for?
10:30 PM _unreal_: I cant look tonight its almost midnight
10:30 PM _unreal_: tomorrow I can dig through the tote
10:31 PM _unreal_: ?
11:02 PM Bleepshop: _unreal_: These or an ATO block. https://www.amazon.com/UK5-HESI-UK5RD-indicated-Disconnect-Terminal/dp/B07W4JK63V/
11:02 PM * Bleepshop is hauling firewood and trying to thaw out.
11:03 PM XXCoder: watch out for fakes
11:03 PM XXCoder: saw picture of one that only had wire inside
11:03 PM XXCoder: slow blow fuse lol
11:03 PM Bleepshop: The fuse that blows for their slow customers? LOL
11:04 PM Bleepshop: Shit! It's so cold my butane lighter is having hell building pressure.
11:04 PM XXCoder: no, slow blow means it delays before blowing fuse, so it wouldnt blow for first maybe second or two
11:05 PM Bleepshop: I'm used to the Slo-Blo style that looks like solder inside.
11:05 PM XXCoder: breaker I menioned is highly illegal ripoff
11:06 PM XXCoder: https://preview.redd.it/84kbnawbz5u91.png?auto=webp&s=1134d7fcafa873bc5566c3dbbbd54b82f0b8aa8a
11:07 PM Bleepshop: Breaker, Breaker, Anybody out there got a fire hazard? LMAO
11:08 PM XXCoder: you notice that "rivets" is mostly hollow too lol
11:08 PM XXCoder: minium
11:14 PM _unreal_: Bleepshop, I think I might have some of those
11:14 PM _unreal_: fuse din rails
11:20 PM Bleepshop: _unreal_: Cool, Let me know tomorrow after you have a chance to rummage.
11:23 PM solarwind: Just got my MKS servo42c kit for $20 CAD: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003340856835.html
11:23 PM solarwind: it's _excellent_ for the price
11:24 PM solarwind: CaptHindsight[m] field oriented control, turn any NEMA 17/23 motor into a real servo
11:24 PM solarwind: like not just closed loop step control, it's true FOC
11:25 PM solarwind: it doesn't treat the stepper motor like a step device, it treats it more like a BLDC with 50 pole pairs
11:25 PM solarwind: screws right onto the back, they even give you a magnet that just snaps onto the shaft
11:25 PM solarwind: and source code is open source :D
