02:39 AM randy: morning
04:55 AM JT-Cave: morning\
05:10 AM Tom_L: morning
05:56 AM travis-farmer is now known as travis_farmer
06:11 AM JT- is now known as JT-Server
06:13 AM JT-Server: I just notice on this pc that Remote Viewer has been added to the Internet menu but not by me... and yesterday Wing 8 IDE was added to the Programming menu on the other PC again not by me
06:26 AM JT-Server: installing debian 11 again...
06:49 AM pere: What is the Internet menu?
06:50 AM pere: are you talking about the desktop menu Internet subsection? Those are populated based on the Category line in files in /usr/share/applications/
06:54 AM JT-Server: Applications > Internet
06:55 AM JT-Server: yep but I didn't add that program to this pc
07:28 AM pere: grepping in the directory mentioned and using dpkg -S /path/to/file will tell you which package caused the menu entry to show up.
07:33 AM JT-Shop: no need it was obvious which program it was but not so obvious how it got installed
07:33 AM * JT-Shop starts a fire
07:39 AM JT-Shop2: or 2
07:39 AM pere: JT-Shop: /var/log/dpkg.log should tell you when it was installed.
07:40 AM JT-Shop2: thanks

09:38 AM solarwind: Guys
09:39 AM solarwind: I'm about to achieve a breakthrough (or what I think is a breakthrough based on what I keep hearing from everyone here over the past few years)
09:39 AM solarwind: 8kHz servo loop cycle real time over ethercat with consumer grade PC
09:39 AM solarwind: Bypassed the kernel network stack with DPDK
09:40 AM solarwind: I expect this would be useful for the guys running the mesa cards over ethernet too. But then again, they're doing 1kHz(?) position mode control so I don't think they really care.
10:02 AM pcw-home: For velocity or position mode on normal CNC machines, there is little to be gained with faster than 1 KHz servo threads
10:04 AM pcw-home: also, unfortunately DPDK is quite picky about which MACS are supported
10:04 AM pcw-home: (its main focus is 10G and higher interfaces)
10:11 AM solarwind: pcw-home netmap is an alternative I'm testing this weekend
10:12 AM solarwind: DPDK's drivers seem to be fine for intel NICs
10:12 AM solarwind: and my use case is not only linuxcnc. I'm going to be doing torque control at 8kHz for robot arms and such
10:17 AM pcw-home: DPDK for example only works natively on 1 of the two E1000 variants (the e1000e I think)
10:19 AM pcw-home: and no RealTek AFAIK
10:39 AM pcw-home: Netmap looks interesting because it supports a lot of standard 1G MACS

02:20 PM jpa-: any tips on 15A 50V sensored BLDC drivers suitable for servo usage, that are actually available currently?
02:22 PM jpa-: ideally i would like something that i can just feed a PWM or analog signal for duty cycle into, so i can tune the loops on linuxcnc side
02:23 PM roguish[m]: https://www.a-m-c.com/
02:25 PM jpa-: looks like one of those places that don't even want to tell you the prices, let alone whether stuff is available
02:25 PM roguish[m]: I'm not sure they sell direct. lots of distributors. also, check ebay (depends on where you are)
02:28 PM roguish[m]: jpa-: I bought a few of these, for brushed motors, but they work brushless also. very good drives https://www.ebay.com/itm/303118499585
02:29 PM jpa-: thanks, i'll take a look
02:30 PM jpa-: looks like the second hand prices are quite reasonable
02:31 PM roguish[m]: make sure what ever you buy, if used, is still a current product. really helps with support.
02:32 PM roguish[m]: I have found their support to be excellent
02:37 PM jpa-: i've been using some FSESC controller i happened to have lying around - it works, but has too much smarts for this purpose, and seems to have unpredictable latency - usually less than 1ms but sometimes 5+ms

04:12 PM * JT-Shop2 is about to run out of sized test material... I better get the ibox set soon for the perfect box joint

08:55 PM XXCoder: nice. dro upgrade for blondhack
11:25 PM mrec: I don't get the sense of a DRO if you can set up a system with LinuxCNC
11:26 PM mrec: this is kind of the middle way between traditional and CNC
11:26 PM mrec: I'm waiting for my glass scales
