01:09 AM roycroft: you can squirt some plastic out of a nozzle and make the things that way
02:59 AM pere: hi
03:21 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning, the snow has begun in my part of the world...
04:27 AM Deejay: moin
04:38 AM Tom_L: morning
04:49 AM Loetmichel: *snicker* new production manager here just figured out that every company has two invisible employees: the "Mr. nobody" and the "Mr Somebody". Especially the "Nobody" that does everything wrong. :). MAN is that guy stressed right now. quote: "I want a personalized stamp for every worker that HAS to be stamped on every item they touch!!!1111" :)

05:16 AM sensille: Loetmichel: aren't you the production manager?
05:17 AM * Loetmichel is switching to pure prototyping/development. Hence the elevation of one of my co-workers to my old job.
05:18 AM xxcodery: nice
05:23 AM Loetmichel: honestly: i pity the fool. There is a reason i was glad to get rid of that job :D
05:25 AM sensille: sounds like a promotion to me :D
05:25 AM Loetmichel: just in name.
05:26 AM Loetmichel: its the job i did for the lat 10 yers or so anyways.
05:26 AM sensille: but now you can focus more on it
09:36 AM CaptHindsight[m]: was just 75F last week, and down to 10F this week, we didn't get a fall this year
09:49 AM CaptHindsight[m]: how do you guys handle automated probing to get the approximate surfaces of a part when the probe is narrow enough to fall into the part orifices and possibly crash the body of the probe?
10:17 AM jpa-: use long enough probe tip? :)
10:18 AM jpa-: i guess you could have a wide disc on the probe shaft to make sure it triggers before crashing to the probe body
10:34 AM JT-Shop: give the probe a limit in z
02:12 PM roycroft: ok, this is too much
02:12 PM roycroft: i just got an ad in an email imploring me to buy advent gifts for my pets
02:13 PM * roycroft thinks there's too much commercialization of commercialization these days

02:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: this probe protection sounds like it relies too much on common sense
02:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I have to deal with the public
02:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: did you come across closed loop steppers with integrated drivers on your recent search?
03:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: what did you find besides Leadshine, clearpath and oddball Chinese?
03:17 PM Rab: CaptHindsight[m], MDrive Plus: https://novantaims.com/all-products/mdrive-intelligent-motors/mdrive-plus-products/
03:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Rab: thanks, but he found some specific things that I wanted to ask him about
03:19 PM Rab: Ahh, sorry
03:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no problem 👍️
03:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Rab: what is their pricing like?
03:21 PM Rab: I was looking at a local auction lot for an autosampler platform that had the MDrive things, until I realized they were a variant that just had RS-422 and didn't expose step/dir directly.
03:21 PM Rab: CaptHindsight[m], unknown to me.
03:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.amazon.com/iHSS42-24-07-NEMA17-Integrated-Closed-Stepper/dp/B08BS2ZRQX/ref=sr_1_11
03:25 PM Rab: Not too sure about pluggable terminal strips in that application.
03:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and mystery features
03:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: they take a pic of the full featured version with interfaces not on the one they actually sell
03:28 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it might even mention rs485 or canopen but only be Step/Dir
03:28 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.amazon.com/TOAUTO-Integrated-Closed-Loop-IHSS57-36-20-Position/dp/B01MFA87KI
03:31 PM Rab: CaptHindsight[m], how can you tell? I see a couple of datasheets for iHSS42, both step/dir and RS-232 interfaces seem to be standard features.
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I actually had the one ^^^
03:31 PM Rab: ahh
03:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: when it showed up it was just step/dir
03:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: very nice motor
03:32 PM Rab: Q:
03:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's probably still sitting in Seagates lab
05:54 PM justache is now known as justGrit
08:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: spent 4 hours on chat with a Chinese supplier about a gripper that contracts to grip the O.D. of bars and rods, grips like your hand would hold a banana.......today I get a quote for a gripper that expands the OD to grab things from the inside :)
