04:34 AM Tom_L: morning
04:49 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning, and a huge Thank You to all the Veterans in here (Veterans Day, USA)
04:49 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:50 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:51 AM Tom_L: building debs
04:52 AM JT-Cave: ok
04:55 AM Tom_L: 29F
04:56 AM travis_farmer: 40F with a high of 64F :D
04:59 AM Tom_L: dog didn't putz around outside this morning
05:05 AM Tom_L: pr 50 up
05:10 AM JT-Cave: done
05:11 AM Tom_L: :)
05:36 AM JT-Cave: I'll be bringing in some firewood to the shops today
05:36 AM pere: during the last video chat, someone mentioned there is a grpl related firmware that can be used with LinuxCNC. I've been unable to find it. Anyone know anything about this?
06:31 AM JT-Cave: something in the translations has created duplicate buttons on the button bar and the first set does nothing :(
06:37 AM jpa-: pere: probably not what was talked about, but it could make sense to use the Klipper firmware as a hardware for LinuxCNC for open-loop stepper applications
06:41 AM jpa-: (klipper sends the open-loop step sequence in a compressed format through USB, and a microcontroller then sends the pulses when it receives it; it gets accurate and fast stepping even with the USB latency, but of course does not help with anything that needs closed loop control on PC)
06:57 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, woops
06:57 AM Tom_L: i see that now..
06:58 AM Tom_L: i was leaving the obvious ones for you to find :)
06:58 AM JT-Cave: lol
06:59 AM Tom_L: i actually didn't look this morning
06:59 AM JT-Cave: working a a simple filter section for g code file extensions
07:05 AM pere: JT-Cave: wow. which translation?
07:06 AM Tom_L: pere, this is on his mesact tool
07:09 AM Tom_L: pere, i see lcnc is ready for prime time on bookworm now!
07:09 AM pere: Tom_L: yeah, since a few hours ago. :)
08:01 AM JT-Cave: figured it out and fixed it Tom_L
10:10 AM JT-Shop22 is now known as JT-Shop2
10:11 AM * JT-Shop2 takes five with king crimson after putting on the X pipe
10:13 AM roguish[m]: King Crimson? now there's an oldie....
10:37 AM unterhaus: isn't king crimson still around?
10:44 AM roycroft: kind of
10:45 AM roycroft: they go through periods where they take a break for a few years, get back together, and the band members have always do solo projects and worked with other bands
10:57 AM roycroft: so far i'm enjoying the standup desk, btw
10:58 AM roycroft: i'm inclined to proceed with building one as my main desk at this point, but i'll give the cad desk some more time before i decide
11:17 AM * JT-Cave takes a lunch break
11:18 AM JT-Cave: got a photo of the desk?
11:30 AM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09NNMT388/
11:30 AM roycroft: i haven't taken a photo of mine, but that's what i got
11:31 AM JT-Cave: interesting
11:31 AM roycroft: sitting at a desk for hours on end is not very healthful
11:32 AM roycroft: i don't think stand up desks are a fad - i think they're going to be pretty mainstream going forward
11:33 AM roycroft: if i build one for my main desk this is what i think i'll get:
11:33 AM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WFR5WB8/
11:33 AM roycroft: it has an electronic lift with 4 pre-set heights
11:34 AM roycroft: if i can find a nice crotch slab that's curved i might be able to make a really nice desk top out of it
11:35 AM roycroft: but before i invest $2k or more in a new main desk i'm going to spend a few months with the stand up cad desk to be sure it's what i want
11:56 AM CloudEvil: LCNC desk 4 Z axes.
12:05 PM roycroft: you know, the stand-up desk that i have can swivel the keyboard tray
12:05 PM roycroft: and the monitor shelf and keyboard tray are independently adjustable
12:05 PM roycroft: i could operate it as a 3 axis cnc desk
12:06 PM roycroft: the mouse tray also swivels, but i don't understand why
12:06 PM JT-Shop2: the C5 is on the ground finally after a month of working and waiting
12:06 PM roycroft: it needs to be horizontal or it won't work right
12:08 PM roycroft: if i get that corner desk lift frame, i'll need to figure out how to "wrap" the frame so that it doesn't look so industrial
12:09 PM roycroft: there's no way i can build a height-adjustable corner desk for a computer and 3 big displays that looks totally traditional, but i'd like to soften the industrial look at least somewhat
12:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://3dprint.com/295633/chapter-11-bankruptcy-who-will-buy-fast-radius/
12:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: " worker displacement take place at Desktop Metal (NYSE: DM), Carbon, and Nexa3D. Photocopying pioneer Xerox (Nasdaq: XRX) essentially dismantled its entire AM division. "
12:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: these companies are so full of crap with their "almost works" tech
12:23 PM Deejay: cya
12:34 PM Connor: I've got two projects, a CNC and a Plasma. I have a 7I76E and can't get another.. looks like it's out of stock.
12:34 PM Connor: Can the 7I96 work with the THC ?
12:35 PM Connor: Thinking of getting one of those for the plasma, and using the existing 7i76E for the CNC Router.
12:37 PM roycroft: i don't know if you'll be using both machines at the same time, but an idea i toyed with for a long time was building a control panel/linuxcnc machine/power supply into a rolling cart that i could hook to individual machines as needed
12:37 PM Connor: Different parts of the space. Different enclosures.
12:37 PM roycroft: it would save on some of the components, and would likely gain me some valuable real estate on the shop floor
12:38 PM roycroft: the enclosures are not particularly relevant, as you would have umbilical cords to plug into each machine
12:38 PM roycroft: but different parts of the space might make it less convenient
12:39 PM roycroft: i've moved away from that idea
12:39 PM roycroft: but i've not forgotten it
02:16 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, building
02:19 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, there's not quite as many buttons now
02:24 PM JT-Shop2: :)
02:25 PM JT-Shop2: Corvette is back up in the air, forgot to plug in the speed sensor... shouldn't take long
02:26 PM Tom_L: spare buttons, speed sensor... meh
02:34 PM Tom_L: i see you added the device info for the ethernet
02:39 PM Tom_L: 51 up
02:39 PM * Tom_L goes for a nap
02:45 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:46 PM JT-Shop: the speed sensor is on top of the differential on the passenger side and is "ALMOST" impossible to get to
02:51 PM * JT-Shop sips on a Weihenstephaner
03:04 PM roycroft: it's not the weekend here yet
03:04 PM roycroft: no refreshing beverages for me for a while
03:18 PM pere: LinuxCNC user testing... <URL: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=Eeioz0wB-UY > :)
03:20 PM JT-Shop: wrong configuration tool...
04:15 PM andypugh: I suspect that those in the US will be a bit surprised what I have been doing tonigh: Making gun parts for a work colleague. He’s been chosen for the England shooting team in the Commonwealth Games.
04:17 PM JT-Shop2: match shooting?
04:20 PM andypugh: Yes, full-bore target rifle
04:21 PM JT-Shop2: cool
04:21 PM andypugh: Here’s the parts, it’s an adjustable butt-stock adaptor ad it came out pretty well. https://photos.app.goo.gl/CbNg1YXB7Srt8ysD9
04:22 PM andypugh: I had it anodised (place down the road, £10) which always makes things look about 3x more professional.
04:25 PM JT-Shop2: very nice indeed
04:28 PM JT-Shop2: the only thing down the road from me is woods :)
04:41 PM * JT-Shop2 attempts to restore order in the big shop
04:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i usually have about 10 -20 more controllers than machines at any given time
04:51 PM Tom_L: andypugh, nice
04:52 PM Tom_L: the bolts maybe should have been SS
04:53 PM Tom_L: assuming it's an outdoor sport
05:05 PM roycroft: now it's the weekend!
05:05 PM xxcodery: wooooot
05:06 PM Tom_L: watch out left coast... roy's on the loose
05:07 PM xxcodery: im hundreds of miles away im safe from roy
05:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: another neighbor just left out a few 4ft x 5ft steel storage/file cabinets, i was just looking for some
05:40 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/42-w-5-drawer-binder-lateral-file-gray-1
05:41 PM perry_j1987: g'evening
05:53 PM perry_j1987: pick up keys to new place tomorrow
06:23 PM andypugh: Tom_L: Yes, and those are not the ideal wod anchors either. They are just placeholders.
08:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: and you'll actually be zoned for chickens
09:01 PM perry_j1987: my parents have/had chickens they are selling them now
09:01 PM perry_j1987: getting ready to go on the road and explore the US
09:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: in winter?
09:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: tends to be cold and slippery
09:04 PM roycroft: not if you explore the southern us
09:04 PM roycroft: that part of the country is a lot of other things, but not so much cold and slippery
09:06 PM xxcodery: unless its that texan winter
09:08 PM roycroft: there was just another vote dump in nevada
09:08 PM roycroft: the senate race is pretty much a dead heat now
09:08 PM roycroft: less than 2000 vote difference
09:08 PM roycroft: there's going to be a recount there, for sure
09:09 PM roycroft: and there really great news about the election
09:09 PM roycroft: all the hateful ads have gone away!
09:10 PM xxcodery: yeah latter part is always good news of every election
