04:09 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning, 34F with a high of 62F
04:43 AM Tom_L: morning
04:45 AM pere: hi
04:57 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:32 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
07:45 AM * JT-Cave goes to start his chicken day
09:57 AM solarwind: quick question about LinuxCNC inner workings: for those of you reading the encoder feedback from something like an analog servo drive and closing the loop on the computer, what is the frequency at which the PID calculation is run and encoder data is read?
09:57 AM solarwind: is it once per servo update cycle?
10:07 AM jpa-: yes, i run it in servo thread at 1 kHz
10:08 AM jpa-: the HAL setup is flexible enough that you can add different thread for PID if you would want, but i think that would only make sense if you had cascade PID for current loop control
12:20 PM JT-Shop: most of my dexron III just showed up
12:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: I think i tried to run some analog galvos faster than a 1-2KHz servo thread, I forget when I ran out of headroom, maybe 3-4KHz
01:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Rab: you're not the only one to suffer from Fram, I wouldn't be surprised if their QC has gotten worse or if counterfeit filters are floating around like Chinese bearings
01:30 PM roycroft: i would recommend using oem oil filters, fuel filters, and transmission filters
01:31 PM roycroft: take your chances on air filters and the like, as they are less likely to cause catastrophic engine damage if they fail
01:31 PM roycroft: and if it's a gasoline engine, the fuel filter is not as important as with a diesel engine, but i'd still stick with oem
01:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://linuxgizmos.com/arduino-partners-with-finder-to-deliver-microplc-platform/
01:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: stm32H7xx PLC
01:45 PM roycroft: i'm in google land today
01:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-n2l-with-2gbyte-ram/ potential Rpi4 replacement that also may run Remora on its integrated M4 core
01:45 PM roycroft: i find it as distasteful a place to be as ever
01:46 PM roycroft: i really think they're trying to out-microsoft microsoft
01:47 PM roycroft: take something simple and well-established, and twist it into a spiny, convoluted knot that make your eyes bleed and your brain hurt, for no particular reason than that some sadistic team thought it would be a good time
02:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: well they are not the same company they were when they started
02:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: good intentions taken over by typical business practices
02:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or maybe they were evil all along
02:13 PM roycroft: it's all about the benjamins
02:13 PM roycroft: it always was, but they weren't aware of that at first
02:14 PM roycroft: and my standing desk finally arrived
02:15 PM roycroft: this should be an interesting experiment
02:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you can get tall stools if it doesn't work out
02:22 PM roycroft: the height is adjustable
02:26 PM roycroft: the current "desk" is a converted laptop cart
02:26 PM roycroft: at the very least this will be a better sit-down desk than what i'm using now
04:42 PM roycroft: the standing desk is a little weird, but i think i'll get used to it
04:42 PM roycroft: since it's a cheap one, it does not have an electronic lift mechanism with pre-sets, so the stool idea for when i want to sit might be a good one
