01:30 AM pere: I've tried to document the automatic pid tuning process in <URL: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/2130 >. Feedback most welcome.
01:48 AM jpa-: nice, maybe i'll give it a try on saturday
01:48 AM jpa-: i tried to get the old at_pid on 2.8 to work, but without documentation and helper script i didn't get far
01:57 AM * CaptHindsight[m] uploaded an image: (816KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/ClyrRhhIELcJVBebizTLHTPj/wheel00.jpg >
01:58 AM CaptHindsight[m]: ~100 mm dia with a hub for a 12mm shaft, and about 2mm thick at the disk, all one piece SS
01:59 AM Tom_L: turned from bar or plate?
01:59 AM CaptHindsight[m]: looks like it was turned, lots of wasted SS
01:59 AM CaptHindsight[m]: what I am wondering
02:00 AM Tom_L: would take a while to chop a bar to size
02:00 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I tried to turn one but since it gets so thin it was hard to keep it from chattering
02:00 AM CaptHindsight[m]: i used plate ~ 12mm
02:01 AM CaptHindsight[m]: since it's what i had lying around
02:02 AM jpa-: maybe glue to some support material?
02:02 AM CaptHindsight[m]: so I made them as 2 pieces
02:02 AM CaptHindsight[m]: 3mm SS plate and then made some hubs
02:03 AM CaptHindsight[m]: screw the two together
02:03 AM Tom_L: they put bike chain around disks to keep from ringing
02:03 AM CaptHindsight[m]: it's a nice bell :)
02:04 AM Tom_L: a welder would make a separate hub, a machinist would turn from stock
02:05 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I did one as a weld, had some warp
02:05 AM jpa-: a CNC routerer would just mill all away from a big plate, and be happy with however true or untrue it becomes :)
02:05 AM Tom_L: anneal and temper helps
02:05 AM CaptHindsight[m]: lots of waste if from bar stock
02:06 AM Tom_L: and preheat the weld
02:06 AM CaptHindsight[m]: ~90% waste
02:06 AM Tom_L: so are most aircraft parts
02:07 AM CaptHindsight[m]: yeah why planes aren't cheap
02:08 AM Tom_L: my kid has been making wing spar caps (for lack of a better term) on the big gantry starting with a 300 x 45-50 x 6" block
02:08 AM Tom_L: most ends up in the chip bin
02:09 AM CaptHindsight[m]: if i had to make thousands I'd still make it as 2 pieces
02:10 AM Tom_L: at least he was getttin a right and a left from the block for the spars
02:10 AM CaptHindsight[m]: and I'd have someone else do it, i really don't enjoy machining
02:10 AM Tom_L: heh
02:11 AM CaptHindsight[m]: just making machines, somebody else can have the fun of running them over and over and over
02:11 AM Tom_L: on those, it's like watching grass grow
02:12 AM Tom_L: @ 1k ipm
02:14 AM Tom_L: i wanna go see his new place.. he says they have 10 of those old cincinatti 3 head
02:14 AM Tom_L: it's over by MPM where the fest was
02:15 AM CaptHindsight[m]: well at least with grass you can watch it grow under a microscope, with these maybe a macro lens up close at the edge of the tool could offer some entertainment
02:15 AM Deejay: moin
02:16 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRuSYQ5Npek
02:19 AM CaptHindsight[m]: heh lets see what they quote https://www.protolabs.com/services/cnc-machining/cnc-milling/
02:22 AM CaptHindsight[m]: they must realistically quote on production runs and just gouge you on protos to keep that many machines busy and paid for
02:30 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: do they mostly make aircraft parts?
04:06 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning, Happy Birthdy to me :D
04:06 AM xxcodery: hey old man
04:07 AM travis_farmer: old? only 43 ;)
04:10 AM xxcodery: lol
04:45 AM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], yes
04:46 AM Tom_L: morning
04:46 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:46 AM Tom_L: after all we _are_ the air capitol of the world
04:56 AM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], if you needed a quote i'm sure some of the smaller shops around here would do it
04:56 AM Tom_L: the bulk of them are mainly 5 axis
04:57 AM Tom_L: fewer setups required
04:58 AM Tom_L: they're used to geting aircraft prices though instead of agirculture etc which pays less
05:07 AM pere: I did a new upload to <URL: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/linuxcnc > with the arm and hppa fix, and the situation look like the new version should show up in bookworm in two days.
06:09 AM travis-farmer is now known as travis_farmer
06:58 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, is that ready to build?
07:01 AM JT-Cave: yes and if you want to test the new error handler just put say in startup.py x = 1 / 0
07:09 AM Tom_L: the last 'string to float' error the guy mentioned is fixed?
07:12 AM JT-Cave: I don't recall that
07:12 AM Tom_L: came in an email to me
07:12 AM Tom_L: i dumped it already...
07:13 AM JT-Cave: no open issues
07:13 AM Tom_L: it was part of an old one..
07:13 AM Tom_L: i think
07:13 AM Tom_L: you know... the thread kind that go forever
07:17 AM JT-Cave: lol yeah
07:18 AM Tom_L: guess it will show it's ugly face again or not
07:19 AM JT-Cave: yup, and if it does I'll know what line of code caused it
07:21 AM Tom_L: 49 up
07:32 AM JT-Cave: I got a 1/4" and 1/2" torque wrench coming today, I really like the snap on torque wrench
07:33 AM Tom_L: aparently so :)
07:33 AM JT-Cave: I also needed them to finish putting the Corvette back together lol
07:35 AM JT-Cave: building the 6.1 kernel to test for error finishing read with mesa ethernet cards on this pc
07:36 AM Tom_L: my kid had gotten a milwaukee battery impact wrench and already broke it at his first job so maybe avoid those
07:37 AM Tom_L: later..
07:42 AM JT-Cave: I only use DeWalt tools and have only had a slight issue with one
07:42 AM JT-Cave: later...
07:42 AM travis_farmer: i like Makita :D
07:46 AM JT-Cave: bbib
07:48 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:55 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
09:30 AM * travis_farmer has returned from taking trash to town dump.
09:57 AM solarwind: travis_farmer that's mean, javascript developers are people too
10:27 AM travis_farmer: solarwind: ????
10:27 AM solarwind: It's a joke
10:28 AM travis_farmer: apparently over my head...
10:38 AM roycroft: friends don't let friends write javscript (or perl, for that matter)
10:40 AM roguish[m]: give me Fortran, or give me death.
10:47 AM pere: sorry, fortran is already taken.
10:52 AM * sensille <- perl
10:55 AM * travis_farmer <- Arduino C/C++
11:00 AM sensille: oh, there is already a colorlight project
11:09 AM fogl: hello everybody, i am trying to implement a PCIe driver, i have a working example of 4Byte read and write. If i understand this correctly every read/write is translated to separate PCIe transaction of 4Bytes. Wouldn't it be better/faster to send a larger array of data at the same time, or I should not care about that, because no additional load on CPU is required to execute the transaction?
11:10 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:13 AM jpa-: fogl: yes, it would probably speed things up a bit to use larger transfer sizes - especially for read operations when the CPU is likely having to wait for it
11:17 AM jpa-: fogl: it seems PCIe 1.1 x1 access time is about 2 µs constant overhead + 0.02 µs per word
11:20 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: the point was the pricing and business model of Protolabs, there are over a hundred machine shops within 50 miles of me
11:24 AM fogl: @jpa- is there a rtapi_pci instruction to transfer larger amount of data at the same time? I was also wondering why are there additional rtapi_pci source files. Is existing linux pci source not good?
11:25 AM jpa-: fogl: i think rtapi is for RTAI portability
11:26 AM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], i figured there were
11:26 AM Tom_L: that protolab appears to have small machines
11:27 AM jpa-: fogl: but also i think plain PCI does not have the concept of a transfer size, because it is not packet based; PCI burst mode is similar though
11:28 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: hundreds on lease, they buy more machines when they can't keep up with 1-2 day turn times on orders
11:28 AM Tom_L: seems like small ones though
11:28 AM jpa-: fogl: it seems the packet sizes are decided by chipset and CPU in hardware, so if you do multiple accesses end-to-end, it might go into a single transfer
11:29 AM fogl: I was wondering if i could use a pcie DMA to speed data transfer a bit more. I have a working example for user space application so i could extract the driver code required, but i am not sure i can use it with RTAI/rtapi?
11:29 AM jpa-: the device modes "write combining" also affect this
11:29 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: shipping costs of big parts will offset the costs of using them
11:29 AM Tom_L: yep
11:30 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: so unless they have local customers for big parts they won't focus on them
11:30 AM CaptHindsight[m]: otherwise air frames would all just be made in Alabama or similar
11:34 AM CaptHindsight[m]: fogl: how much data and how often do you need to transfer it?
11:34 AM CaptHindsight[m]: also look at RDMA
11:38 AM fogl: i would like to design a pci-ethernet card which would work with rtai. So i would transfer ethernet payload data. For instance 8 frames of 1kB data at servo thread frequency app 5kHz.
11:39 AM CaptHindsight[m]: fogl: RTAI can also work in user space
11:40 AM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m] i dunno they make alot of parts here that go to Ga Ca etc
11:41 AM fogl: I tried preempt-rt, but i was achieving poor latency data - not sure why (i did what was suggested to decrease latency at linuxccn web site).
11:41 AM Tom_L: the tubes are made here and railed to the left coast
11:41 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: since they already make the big parts vs gamble with a local
11:42 AM Tom_L: they found out that the rails going there cannot stop along the way though
11:42 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: part of that is just familiarity
11:42 AM Tom_L: ppl shoot holes in the tubes even though they're enclosed
11:43 AM Tom_L: the dreamlifter also moves alot of parts
11:43 AM CaptHindsight[m]: guns + stupid + frustrated
11:43 AM CaptHindsight[m]: but the frustration is a feature, not a problem and selling them guns makes $$
11:44 AM CaptHindsight[m]: stupid just keeps the business model going
11:44 AM Tom_L: yeah the govt loves stupid
11:44 AM CaptHindsight[m]: easier to manipulate
11:46 AM CaptHindsight[m]: business likes stupid
11:47 AM CaptHindsight[m]: heh, shooting train cars, so one could cripple the aircraft industry by making it a tiktok challenege
11:48 AM Tom_L: obama did that during his admin
11:48 AM Tom_L: at least for private
11:48 AM CaptHindsight[m]: shoot train cars?
11:48 AM Tom_L: no, cripple the aircraft industry
11:48 AM CaptHindsight[m]: oh
11:48 AM Tom_L: shut down the whole citation 10 program here for quite a while
11:50 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: where was the last place you visited that required a passport?
11:50 AM Tom_L: haven't been out of the country far enough to require one
11:51 AM CaptHindsight[m]: you really need to get out of Kansas for a while
11:51 AM JT-Shop2: hmm the 36 tunnel cover bolts are torqued up... time for a break
11:52 AM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], it's my safe spot :)
11:54 AM JT-Shop2: the chevy dealer had the limited slip friction modifier and I found 2 quarts of Mobil 1 75x90 at the zone
11:55 AM JT-Shop2: half way to filling the differential
11:55 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, any of those emails require a rebuild?
11:57 AM JT-Shop2: just some doc updates so wait for a bug fix or enhancement unless you just want to build...
12:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: fogl: https://github.com/NTULINUX/RTAI did you ask him about this yet?
12:07 PM perry_j1987: well looks like going to be moving soon
12:07 PM perry_j1987: found a farm house to rent with a shop
12:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: with 3-phase power?
12:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and what about internet?
12:09 PM Tom_L: smoke signals
12:10 PM perry_j1987: highspeed availabel there and no power to shop yet
12:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: rural issues, lack of 3-phase, internet and culture
12:10 PM perry_j1987: have to add that
12:10 PM perry_j1987: i dont need 3 phase
12:12 PM perry_j1987: im quite excited wont have to leave home for work heh
12:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the downside is if you get too busy you never make it outside
12:14 PM perry_j1987: next to a college town too.
12:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: beer cans
12:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and plastic cups
12:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: hope it works out well for you
12:29 PM CaptHindsight[m]: if you get bored machining https://youtu.be/ByUMIQEjgZ8?t=27
12:37 PM JT-Shop: got my 7i92TM
12:39 PM roycroft: you do need three phase
12:39 PM roycroft: whether you generate it yourself or have it delivered by your utility does not matter all that much for a small shop
12:39 PM roycroft: but you do need it
12:40 PM roycroft: it's always a lot cheaper if you have your utility deliver it to you that way
12:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&manufacturer_id=11&product_id=377&page=12
12:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 7i92TM
12:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop: ok so what are the differentiating features between 7i92 models?
12:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no suffix, H, M and TM?
12:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: farms out here only have 2 phases on the poles
12:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: might be miles to get to a 3-phase connection
12:49 PM JT-Shop: the T series is the current production, the rest are unobtainum
12:49 PM JT-Shop: the only difference is the P2 connector
12:49 PM JT-Shop: between the TM TF and TH
12:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: why I can get 3-phase motors from really cheap out here at swaps or similar since the farms can't use them easily
12:51 PM perry_j1987: when im touching off tools by cutting a diameter and then mic it is it more accurate the larger the diameter?
12:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop: I don't see TF and TH on the website
12:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/manufacturer/info&manufacturer_id=11&page=12
12:52 PM * roycroft rues the emergence of cheap vfds
12:52 PM roycroft: used 3 phase motors used to be dirt cheap
12:52 PM JT-Shop2: the website?
12:52 PM roycroft: now that people have figured out how they can use them in their garage they are sometimes more expensive than used single phase motors
12:53 PM JT-Shop2: CaptHindsight[m], that's not my website
12:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: I get new 3-ph motors out here since they take them off things to replace with a 2-pole
12:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop2: yes, i agree, but whee do I find out info about the TF and TH ?
12:54 PM JT-Shop2: 7i92T's are still a couple of months out
12:54 PM roycroft: yeah, new ones can be had for a good price sometimes for that very reason
12:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: whee/where
12:54 PM roycroft: but they're not as common as they used to be
12:54 PM JT-Shop2: they are the same as the old ones except the bit files and the fpga
12:54 PM roycroft: i like my huanyang vfds, but sometimes i wish other people did not know about them
12:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop2: which suffix do the old ones use?
12:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: does T mean new version?
12:55 PM roycroft: it appears that cl have rolled out a new, extra-sucky user interface
12:56 PM JT-Shop2: 7i92, 7i92M, 7i92H
12:56 PM roycroft: either that or their css is broken
12:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: any tips for surviving in a cultural desert?
01:00 PM roycroft: bring lots of enriching media with you
01:06 PM perry_j1987: you got tiktok CaptHindsight[m] right? :P
01:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i think I have most Chinese malware
01:06 PM roycroft: tiktok?
01:06 PM roycroft: you survive a cultural desert by leaping into a cultural abyss?
01:07 PM perry_j1987: lol
01:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i think you are supposed to exchange dancing rituals on that site as well
01:07 PM perry_j1987: how else is CaptHindsight[m] going to learn the new dances
01:07 PM perry_j1987: lol same thought process CaptHindsight[m] haha
01:07 PM roycroft: at the fred astaire school of dance, of course
01:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or pranking your friends, wife, pets etc
01:08 PM roycroft: or else going back to freshman year in high school and attending the 8am awkward gym class where you get paired up with a nerdy girl and instructed on how to square dance
01:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: heh we had that in 6-8 grade
01:09 PM roycroft: perhaps even more awkward then
01:09 PM roycroft: there was still talk of "girl cooties" pre-high school
01:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: oh and Irish folk dancing since Chicago
01:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: well you do have to watch for cooties no matter what age
01:10 PM roycroft: that's one of the things i never understood about middle school (junior high back east)
01:10 PM perry_j1987: we had square dancing out in washington state
01:10 PM roycroft: you take children at the most awkward stage of their life and force them to participate in the most awkward activities of their life
01:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: break the spirit from 5-17
01:11 PM roycroft: we did square dancing primarily, with a bit of ballroom dancing towards the end
01:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: works wonders
01:12 PM perry_j1987: it would be kinda nice if there was a little wizard for adding buttons in axis
01:12 PM perry_j1987: like make buttons for tool changes
01:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: our eighth grade class was deemed to immature for mock phone dating lessons
01:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: have you seen Axis-2?
01:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: why qtpyvcp was invented
01:15 PM perry_j1987: i havnt
01:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/21-axis/40659-axis-2-touchscreen-version-of-old-friend
01:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.qtpyvcp.com/
01:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: I haven't played with axis2 yet, but I think they made it much easier to modify
01:19 PM perry_j1987: nice
01:48 PM roycroft: well, today is the day that the nasty political hate ads stop
01:48 PM roycroft: so that is good
01:48 PM roycroft: but next week the 2024 election circus will begin, so the ads will start again
01:49 PM perry_j1987: ugh just broke finger on the traveling steady
01:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: yours or the steadys?
01:52 PM perry_j1987: the steady lol
01:54 PM perry_j1987: going to have to mill up a set of replacements
01:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: i rarely ever watch regular TV, I streamed some US network channels last night and i was shocked by the steady repetitive stream at every commercial break, it was worse than the Larch
01:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: just as silly, are people really this dumb?
01:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's been parodied so many times
01:59 PM roycroft: not really dumb, capthindsight
02:00 PM roycroft: people tend to be tribal
02:00 PM roycroft: and they want to hear what their tribe believes
02:01 PM roycroft: we have a candidate for congress in my district who joked about killing women by choking them during sex in a podcast in 2018
02:01 PM roycroft: and in 2020 he advocated for overturning roe
02:02 PM roycroft: in 2021 he advocated for eliminating the minimum wage
02:02 PM roycroft: all these are on video
02:02 PM roycroft: his retort to the ads pointing them out is, in essence "that's ancient history - you should look at who i am now"
02:02 PM roycroft: which could be a valid argument
02:03 PM roycroft: but then he went on to discuss his opponent's voting record, pointing out several vote he disagreed with while she served as a state legislator
02:03 PM roycroft: the thing is, all those votes he pointed to were made by her in 2012-2015
02:04 PM roycroft: and even his own ads, the ones where he talks about forgetting his past statements, because last year is "ancient history", list the dates of his opponents' votes
02:05 PM roycroft: his ads have actually been rather effective, and he's closed the gap more than it should be
02:05 PM roycroft: logic is not involved here - it's pure tribal emotion
02:05 PM roycroft: both sides do it - i'm not just putting down one side
02:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: tribal, herd, etc aren't signs of near genius
02:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: lets not upset the tribes in here by mentioning anything political
02:13 PM roycroft: tribalism isn't necessarily a sign of low intelligence
02:13 PM roycroft: it's often just a sign of finding an easy path
02:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: useful idiots
02:14 PM roycroft: i have tried very hard not to discuss political issues from a partisan point of view
02:15 PM roycroft: this is more political theory than advocacy, but we're still pressing the limits of tolerance on this channel, so we should probably move on to another topic now
02:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: oh you can't go rationalizing around in here
02:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: some tribes frown on that
02:17 PM roycroft: i have three meetings with our attorneys coming up this week
02:17 PM roycroft: i need practice rationalizing :)
02:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Java_Master_2002_Coffee_Roaster
02:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i should probably join
02:19 PM roycroft: my new standing desk for my cad workstation arrives tomorrow
02:20 PM * roycroft considered coffee roasting, but decided it's not worth doing
02:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: don't you have a small daily size roaster?
02:21 PM roycroft: there are at least a dozen small, local roasters here in eugene who produce high quality organic beans sourced from fair-trade certified growers
02:21 PM roycroft: no, and that's rather ridiculous to have for most people
02:22 PM roycroft: because coffee beans are shite the day they are roasted
02:22 PM roycroft: it takes four days after roasting to reach peak flavor
02:22 PM roycroft: the notion of roasting them "fresh" every day right before brewing is utterly ridiculous
02:23 PM * travis_farmer just uses a K-cup machine ;)
02:23 PM roycroft: coffee beans reach peak flavor four days after roasting, and do not start deteriorating until 10 or so days later
02:23 PM roycroft: so the key is to procure beans roasted last week, and get a week's worth at a time
02:24 PM roycroft: if you enjoy doing that as a hobby, by all means go for it
02:24 PM roycroft: but if you just want good beans, and you are blessed as i am to have a plethora of local sources, it's probably easier to just go buy a week's worth at a time
02:25 PM roycroft: all i'm really saying is that roasting them at home is not going to gain you anything in flavor, and there is no notion of "freshness" as there is with many other things
02:26 PM roycroft: yes, bread fresh out of the oven can be better than anything you buy
02:26 PM roycroft: but not coffee beans
02:27 PM roycroft: and i would actually not mind building a coffee roaster, as i do think it would be fun hobby, except for one thign
02:27 PM roycroft: roasting coffee generates a significant amount of smoke, and it must be ventilated well, which can be fairly challenging
02:29 PM travis_farmer: i drove past a commercial coffee roaster place once... smelled like somebody left the coffee pot on the burner for a few days...
02:39 PM * travis_farmer didn't mean to kill the conversation...
02:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: i was planning on making by own aged beans
02:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: like the ones "processed" by monkeys
02:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you can vary the scent and flavor by diet and microflora
03:04 PM roguish[m]: CaptHindsight: gonna eat 'em then shit 'em ???
03:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: processed, processed
03:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: organically so it's natural
03:07 PM roguish[m]: organic pooo
03:11 PM roycroft: you can do that, i suppose
03:13 PM roycroft: your intestinal flora probably differ to that of monkeys quite a bit
03:13 PM roycroft: so your humano-beans might have a rather unique flavor
03:29 PM Tom_L: undoubtedly vary from one to the next. you should share some with him as well
03:31 PM roycroft: i'll just continue to visit our local roasters and purchase the delicious, fair-trade, organic beans that i've been enjoying all these years
03:39 PM Tom_L: fair nuff
04:27 PM JT-Shop2: dammit I need a 21mm 6 point socket to finish torquing... I have a deep socket but it won't fit
04:27 PM * Tom_L reaches into his toolbox
04:27 PM JT-Shop2: torquing to 125 lb ft is hard on an ol fart
04:27 PM Tom_L: uh huh
04:27 PM roycroft: use a breaker bar
04:29 PM Tom_L: you must have your other 2 torque wrenches now
04:31 PM Tom_L: 13/16 won't quite fit a 21mm
04:31 PM JT-Shop2: yep, torqued the 36 tunnel cover bolts first
04:31 PM JT-Shop2: I'll get one tomorrow when I go and pick up the other two quarts of Mobil 1 75w90
04:31 PM Tom_L: just don't bust a knuckle on it
04:32 PM JT-Shop2: right, I'll bleed out if I do lol
04:32 PM JT-Shop2: kinda hard to use a breaker bar with a torque wrench inside a Corvette
04:32 PM Tom_L: i keep thin leather gloves around for hazardous things like that
04:32 PM JT-Shop2: I did have to use a lever on one bolt
04:33 PM JT-Shop2: I keep plenty of leather gloves and use them a lot
04:33 PM Tom_L: mine are piled acording to wear factor
04:33 PM Tom_L: they keep rotating out
04:33 PM JT-Shop2: wells lamont hydra-hyde

04:35 PM Tom_L: my kid goes thru those probably once a month
04:35 PM Tom_L: dozen
04:36 PM JT-Shop2: I like to try them on before buying gloves
04:36 PM Tom_L: takes the edge off on freshly cut alum
04:36 PM JT-Shop2: lol, I bet
04:36 PM Tom_L: i'll stick to the leather personally
04:38 PM roycroft: i use those heavy nitrile gloves for a lot of stuff
04:38 PM roycroft: they're very useful when machining
04:38 PM roycroft: i use leather gloves for a lot of stuff too
04:39 PM roycroft: and i have some nice cotton gloves that i use for handling parts when they're in the finishing room
04:39 PM Tom_L: yeah i wore all the cotton out already and haven't gotten more yet
04:39 PM Tom_L: 2 weights
04:40 PM Tom_L: and heavy leather when welding
