05:15 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:44 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, ready to build?
07:47 AM JT-Cave: I belive so
07:52 AM Tom_L: nice descriptors
07:53 AM JT-Cave: thanks
07:54 AM Tom_L: maybe use a smaller font on the left side so they fit on a row?
07:55 AM Tom_L: or i could just make the size bigger with the mouse
07:55 AM JT-Cave: font is pretty small already lol
07:55 AM Tom_L: yeah it's fine
07:56 AM JT-Cave: I might play with the position of the two plain text edits
07:56 AM Tom_L: ck for mesaflash still broke
07:58 AM Tom_L: if it were mine, i wouldn't give that option
07:58 AM Tom_L: just good info to have
07:58 AM JT-Cave: what's broke about check for mesaflash? works here
07:59 AM Tom_L: just built from source and not here
07:59 AM Tom_L: lemme try again
07:59 AM Tom_L: i'm still half asleep
08:01 AM JT-Cave: ok
08:03 AM Tom_L: yeah it still shows with the box unchecked
08:14 AM Tom_L: same on the rpi
08:23 AM JT-Cave: it? which box?
08:25 AM Tom_L: the mesaflash in the option tab
08:25 AM Tom_L: about to push
08:26 AM Tom_L: 44 up
08:26 AM JT-Shop: ok
08:27 AM Tom_L: that option isn't that big a deal, it just doesn't work here
08:39 AM JT-Cave: it will work when you pull... I had the call twice and forgot to remove the testing one
08:39 AM Tom_L: ok, just finished winders work so i'll test and push again
08:40 AM Tom_L: what is this falling from the sky?
08:48 AM Tom_L: works now
08:58 AM JT-Cave: I'm thinking of moving the check for mesaflash checkbox to the front tab and calling it Enable Mesaflash
09:00 AM Tom_L: that sounds like it disables it for downloading etc
09:00 AM Tom_L: works on pi too..
09:02 AM JT-Cave: Use Mesaflash?
09:03 AM Tom_L: well, you don't have that option for lcnc ... i'd leave it enabled personally
09:03 AM Tom_L: it won't show if it's not installed
09:04 AM Tom_L: instead of blank i'd say 'not installed' or such
09:05 AM Tom_L: cause you're gonna need it to use the tool to the fullest
09:06 AM Tom_L: 'not installed' would show a noob he needs it
09:07 AM JT-Shop: it does say not installed if you enable checking for mesaflash
09:07 AM Tom_L: if you leave the option, yeah you may want to move it. it is kinda hidden
09:08 AM Tom_L: i haven't tested that.. all mine have mesaflash of some version
09:11 AM Tom_L: i'm pushing the check box fix
09:12 AM Tom_L: 45
09:22 AM Tom_L: this thing is 100% better than a couple months ago...
09:23 AM JT-Shop: the mesaflash options could need a bit of improvement
09:23 AM JT-Shop: thanks
09:23 AM Tom_L: roguish[m], check it out!
09:23 AM Tom_L: descriptions help alot
09:23 AM * JT-Shop goes to clean gutters before the storms tonight
09:28 AM JT-Shop: just need to find the leaf blower lol
09:28 AM Loetmichel: JT-Shop: firecrackers work well, too
09:29 AM Loetmichel: to clean gutters i mean :)
09:29 AM Tom_L: mine needs some work.. was working fine but toward the end started bogging down
09:34 AM JT-Shop: Loetmichel, that might scare the crap out of the chickens even worse than the leaf blower
10:14 AM Loetmichel: true
10:25 AM roycroft: i should clean mine, but the rain is starting already, and we're going to get 40mm today
10:27 AM roycroft: i didn't get a chance to clean the moss off the roof this fall either
10:27 AM roguish[m]: I put screens on the gutters all the way around the house. I have sycamores and oak trees surrounding me
10:28 AM roycroft: that's the other odd thing this year
10:28 AM roycroft: my black oak trees are dropping their leaves
10:29 AM roycroft: they usually don't do that until february or so
10:29 AM roycroft: but it's been so dry they did it in the fall
10:29 AM roguish[m]: probalby the temperature....
10:29 AM roycroft: i think it's more the drought
10:30 AM roguish[m]: oaks around here are having a 'mast' year. meaning huge amount of acorns.........
10:30 AM roycroft: normally they change colors and then turn brown in the fall, but hold their leaves until february
10:30 AM roycroft: not a lot of acorns here this year
10:31 AM roguish[m]: one of my oaks drops in the winter. the other dribbles all year long...
10:31 AM roycroft: the squirrels are having to be resourceful
01:27 PM Tom_L: rain & 42F
02:16 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:51 PM Loetmichel: roycroft: the squirrels in the chestnut tree at my wifes house throw with said chestnuts at the moment. And they can aim surprisingly well :D
02:52 PM Loetmichel: Her new (3 months) dog is pretty annoyed.
03:28 PM roycroft: that would be rather entertaining
03:28 PM roycroft: do you have red squirrels in your part of the world or grey squirrels?
03:30 PM Loetmichel: redf
03:30 PM Loetmichel: red
03:31 PM roycroft: most of ours are red
03:31 PM roycroft: all the ones in my yard are
03:31 PM Loetmichel: and sometimes you see a very few grey "imported" ones
03:31 PM roycroft: but i do see some grey ones occasionally
03:40 PM JT-Shop: I got an email from att and a phone call from att saying something they mailed me was returned undeliverable and I need to update my address... which sounds very fishy because I've had the same address since 1998
03:44 PM roycroft: well i'm sure they did not want to inconvenience you, and offered to get your correct address for you by contacting your bank
03:45 PM roycroft: and all they need is your bank account number so that they can get the info for you
03:51 PM JT-Shop: the shift fork pads will be in tomorrow :)
03:52 PM JT-Shop: and Brownells is replacing my order that seems stuck in FedEx in cali
03:58 PM roycroft: i like their cold blueing solution
03:58 PM roycroft: but that's the only brownell's product i use
04:04 PM JT-Shop: TurBoss, you around?
04:30 PM Tom_L: winter advisory around here
04:31 PM Tom_L: i think it's been so dry here they've just been saving them up
04:32 PM roycroft: it's raining lightly here
04:32 PM roycroft: if we're going to get the predicted 40mm today it's going to be a very wet night
04:33 PM Tom_L: rained pretty good here but i haven't checked to see how much
04:39 PM roycroft: the updated forecast is for "only" 33mm today
04:39 PM roycroft: and it looks like 7pm is when the downpour starts
05:11 PM JT-Shop: wind advisory here
05:14 PM * JT-Shop ponders turning a round piece of brass into an isosceles 45/45/90 triangle
05:14 PM xxcodery: for what?
05:15 PM JT-Shop: https://www.btibrands.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/1068318-LeadSled-DFT-2-Instructions-rev-F-PROOF.pdf
05:15 PM JT-Shop: part #24
05:15 PM JT-Shop: it fits into part #6 which has a 90° groove
05:19 PM xxcodery: the ram?
05:19 PM JT-Shop: the tension key
05:19 PM Tom_L: we had the wind yesterday
05:19 PM JT-Shop: so I have to make the vertical part of 24 then add the round part that sticks out to the right
05:20 PM Tom_L: chance to use your rotary head
05:21 PM xxcodery: then lathe to cut em out into whatever number of those you need
05:21 PM Tom_L: meh
05:21 PM xxcodery: if it can be cutoff by lathe dunno
05:21 PM Tom_L: slitting saw
05:21 PM Tom_L: :)
05:21 PM xxcodery: or that
05:22 PM Tom_L: harder to do with a slitting saw
05:22 PM JT-Shop: I have a 5c collet square holder
05:22 PM Tom_L: but you said round
05:22 PM JT-Shop: the stock is round
05:22 PM JT-Shop: or hex, I have a lot of hex
05:22 PM Tom_L: putting a round peg in a square hole?
05:23 PM JT-Shop: making a round peg 1/2 of square
05:23 PM JT-Shop: I know one thing I don't like using the lead sled with the AR
05:24 PM JT-Shop: it pushes me too far forward
05:25 PM Tom_L: heh i wasn't even paying attention to what the thing was
05:25 PM Tom_L: was 24 plastic?
05:25 PM JT-Shop: I need to build a wood thing to get the AR up to eye level
05:26 PM JT-Shop: dunno
05:26 PM JT-Shop: hmm I can print one lol
05:26 PM Tom_L: if so i would sure print it solid
05:27 PM Tom_L: do you mount this thing so something?
05:27 PM Tom_L: or a laydown cradle affair..
05:30 PM JT-Shop: the lead sled sits on top of the shooting bench
05:30 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia3zRbgwDrQ
05:30 PM Tom_L: ok
05:31 PM Tom_L: instead of sandbags
05:32 PM JT-Shop: the problem with it is it moves when you shoot lol
05:32 PM Tom_L: i suppose it would
05:32 PM JT-Shop: I prefer my bags and the correct height platform to shoot from
05:33 PM Tom_L: do you reload?
05:33 PM Tom_L: i did years ago
05:34 PM Tom_L: not even sure where all that stuff is now or if i even have it
05:34 PM Tom_L: got a powder scale somewhere
05:35 PM JT-Shop: I used to reload shotgun shells a lot even before I left home
05:35 PM JT-Shop: I still have the dresser with the holes in the top to mount the reloader
05:36 PM Tom_L: i don't recall doing shot shells just rifle and maybe pistol
05:37 PM JT-Shop: I have a rock crusher with dies for 30-06 and .357
05:39 PM JT-Shop: I shot my Dan Wesson .357 so much I had to replace the barrel
05:39 PM JT-Shop: nothing on radar around here
05:40 PM Tom_L: i've got a 357 but haven't had it out in years
05:40 PM Tom_L: 6 shot
05:40 PM Tom_L: i had some factory loads that were pretty hot
05:40 PM Tom_L: they would push the primer back
05:41 PM Tom_L: got it from my bud that used to match shoot
05:43 PM Tom_L: was SS
05:44 PM JT-Shop: my Dan Wesson is stainless
05:45 PM JT-Shop: my SW .44 magnum is actually fun to shoot, it's heavy enough to absorb most of the recoil
05:46 PM Tom_L: he had a 41 & 44 and both were fun
05:49 PM Tom_L: he had a slide action pistol that i didn't like because it would get you between the thumb and index finger
05:49 PM Tom_L: and it was too light
05:50 PM Tom_L: dunno what it was
05:53 PM JT-Shop: I have a high standard .22 that I had wind a spring with 0.015" spring wire or maybe it was 0010" I forget
05:55 PM Tom_L: i think i had a 222 or some similar small caliber
05:56 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside for the night
05:56 PM roycroft: i did some target shooting when i was about 12 and in the boy scouts, but i haven't handled a firearm since
05:57 PM roycroft: i don't eat meat, and therefore don't hunt, and never had any interest in target shooting
07:18 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: JT-Shop: getting an error on mesact `File startup.py line 92, in function checkconfig
07:18 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: Error: name 'checkmf' is not defined`
07:21 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: ah looking at the git it looks like its a bugged .deb
07:21 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: checking to see if a newer one was built
07:25 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: nope, at least not for amd64
09:45 PM Tom_L: JoseIgnacioRomer, do an update. that will probably solve it
09:45 PM Tom_L: latest one should have fixed that
09:52 PM Tom_L: 1.1.0 build date 11/03/2022
09:54 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: Yeah that is the one with the bug
09:54 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: The amd64 only has the problem
09:54 PM Tom_L: i just built one if you want it
09:54 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: Do you have the .deb? Ill grab it
09:55 PM Tom_L: yeah but i'll put it on my server instead of the git so it doesn't cause a merge conflict
09:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/mesact/
09:56 PM Tom_L: grab the deb there
09:56 PM Tom_L: only one
09:56 PM Tom_L: he fixed that error within the last couple days
09:57 PM Tom_L: but i'm not seeing that he rebuilt his de
09:57 PM Tom_L: b
10:00 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: ok grabbing
10:01 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: also looks like i need to install a newer mesaflash
10:01 PM Tom_L: yes
10:01 PM Tom_L: 3.4.6 is the latest
10:01 PM Tom_L: you have to build that
10:02 PM Tom_L: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/mesaflash
10:02 PM Tom_L: dl the source there
10:03 PM Tom_L: you may need to install 2 libs then sudo make install in the mesaflash directory
10:03 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: hmmm
10:03 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: so if 3.4.6 is the latest release, why didnt anyone tag it?
10:03 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: the debian winter is coming
10:03 PM Tom_L: it's not in the debian repo yet
10:04 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: yes because its not in the upstream either
10:04 PM Tom_L: the one that is, is outdated
10:04 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: looking at the changelog in the git repo you linked the last release is 3.4.2
10:05 PM Tom_L: it is the lastest
10:06 PM Tom_L: it's been updated since then
10:06 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: would it be ok to make a PR with the releases added to the changelog so the deb can be built?
10:06 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: i can add the changelog entry
10:06 PM Tom_L: for the debian repo?
10:06 PM Tom_L: it may be a licensing thing i can't recall off hand
10:07 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: ok let me see whats going on
10:07 PM Tom_L: but they are working on that
10:07 PM Tom_L: for now ^^ that's what you got
10:08 PM Tom_L: i think jt may have forgotten to build the amd64 deb after the last fix for mesact
10:09 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: ok
10:09 PM Tom_L: the one i linked is the very latest
10:10 PM Tom_L: he also added descriptions to the bit files
10:11 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: so looking through the publicly available info on the debian side, the only thing wrong with mesaflash is that the maintainer email is bouncing, but nothing about releases being held up for licensing. what i do see is that the source package is set for the very repo you linked doesnt have any releases after 3.4.2 so debian is not pulling new code as it doesnt see anything changed
10:12 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: if there were newer releases in the upstream i could file a bug in debian to get them upgrade the package
10:12 PM Tom_L: peter may have forgotten to update that, i don't know
10:13 PM Tom_L: i do know that is the latest code for it
10:13 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: I'll file a bug in the repo, if anything i can help with that paperwork
10:13 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: :P
10:13 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: yeah i just read the code, it does have all the latest
10:15 PM Tom_L: little faith...
10:16 PM Tom_L: you're one that just got a 7i96 aren't you?
10:16 PM Tom_L: s
10:16 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: yep
10:17 PM Tom_L: you should be able to build a complete config with jt's tool now
10:17 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: :D
10:17 PM Tom_L: i did a test one
10:19 PM Tom_L: the mesaflash readme.md gives you the libs you need to build it
10:27 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: yeah i already built it on my big computer. i made a fake entry into the debian changelog so i could make an upgraded deb
10:28 PM Tom_L: mesact goin now?
10:30 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: yep!
10:31 PM Tom_L: should notice a few changes
10:36 PM Tom_L: if you open an older ini created with mesact, it does a zip backup before importing it
11:01 PM roycroft: it's really raining now
11:01 PM roycroft: we may get our 33mm tonight yet
11:14 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: hmm
11:18 PM JoseIgnacioRomer: getting 170uS jitter on my servo thread, would that be too much?
