02:42 AM CaptHindsight[m]: cq cq cq dx
02:49 AM xxcodery: your message seen on irc, and not on discord
02:50 AM xxcodery: man its often the case that discord gets the stiff side lol
02:51 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning IRC
02:52 AM xxcodery: but no hi on matrix? ;)
02:52 AM travis_farmer: figured it went down with the bridge ;)
02:53 AM travis_farmer: and i don't have matrix ;)
03:00 AM xxcodery: lol
03:38 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:43 AM Tom_itx: morning
04:43 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
05:01 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:02 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:03 AM pere: hi
11:06 AM sinned6915: is anyone using Remora?
11:07 AM JoseIgnacioRomer: JT-Cave: 😄 i got my mesa card!!!!
11:08 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:09 AM JT-Shop: JoseIgnacioRomer, I knew you would
11:10 AM JoseIgnacioRomer: Now just waiting on the pc i bought to start playing with it
11:19 AM solarwind: pcw-home mister Peter sir
11:21 AM solarwind: pcw-home I have many many questions for you about the MESA cards. I have a few of them. What's the most appropriate way to get in touch? Should I email you?
11:23 AM roguish[m]: solarwind: he does very good with tech at mesanet . com
11:23 AM solarwind: roguish[m] ok thanks!
12:17 PM sensille: interesting, at the start of each lcnc session i get a warning of an unexpected realtime delay of 62500
12:17 PM sensille: same number every time
12:17 PM sensille: unfortunately the warning turns itself off afterwards, so i don't know if it reccurs
12:18 PM sensille: i can't reproduce it in the latency test
12:24 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, board may be wrong for bitfile 7i96s_7i74.bin
12:25 PM Tom_L: and the bob one
12:27 PM Tom_L: ...may not be a board for it but it doesn't get cleared out
12:30 PM Tom_L: started to build debs but i'll wait a bit
12:33 PM Tom_L: also after you select a bin file with a daughter card, the ones without a daughter card still show a daughter card in the dropdown. (they don't clear either)
12:35 PM Tom_L: ie: going from a 7i96s_7i76d.bin to 7i96s_d.bin
02:13 PM JT-Shop: 7i74 should not show a daughter card, it's a smart serial breakout
02:14 PM JT-Shop: I'll check on the daughter cards not clearing...
02:14 PM * JT-Shop though that was taken care of already
02:16 PM JT-Shop: hmm if you select a firmware that has a daughter card then select a firmware with no daughter card the daughter cb does not get cleared, but if you select select it does so a bit of coding and it will be fixed
02:25 PM * JT-Shop cleans out the truck now that the 4th copy lathe is done
02:49 PM JT-Shop: yippee the 7i92TM proto is on the way to me
02:50 PM Tom_L: nice
02:52 PM Tom_L: she must like you
02:55 PM JT-Shop: just pushed a fix for the all in one boards firmware
02:55 PM Tom_L: building already
02:55 PM Tom_L: then i'll push rpi debs
03:00 PM Tom_L: no pin file found for the 7i96s_dt.bin
03:00 PM Tom_L: (last one on the list)
03:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: this is common when LCNC starts up, one latency spike right at the beginning, just ignore
03:00 PM Tom_L: building debs anyway
03:03 PM JT-Shop: I need to make some description files for the firmware files so newbee's understand what each firmware is for
03:05 PM Tom_L: or anybody.. they are a bit confusing
03:05 PM Tom_L: the 7i96s aren't so bad
03:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: if you get more realtime warnings then there might be a problem
03:10 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, can you do something like a rollover description on that pulldown?
03:10 PM Tom_L: shows up on the bottom row...
03:11 PM JT-Shop: I was thinking of adding a description box, something more in your face
03:11 PM Tom_L: may be too long for that, i dunno
03:11 PM Tom_L: lots of sofware do rollovers
03:12 PM JT-Shop: hmm I have a bug
03:12 PM Tom_L: don't have to select it just hover
03:12 PM JT-Shop: yep I have a lot of tool tips
03:12 PM JT-Shop: that would be complicated for a combobox
03:12 PM JT-Shop: I think
03:12 PM Tom_L: ok
03:16 PM JT-Shop: bug squashed
03:16 PM JT-Shop: now I can't fine the 1" wrench for the Samson lathe...
03:17 PM Tom_L: how do i discard my changes and add yours?
03:18 PM Tom_L: found it..
03:19 PM sensille: CaptHindsight[m]: that spike, but it tells me that further warnings are disabled. so there can't be more?
03:19 PM Tom_L: rebuilding debs
03:40 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, PR 43 ready
03:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: what cpu and IO are you using?
03:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: intel cpu with LPT card, rpi4 with Mesa, etc etc??
03:43 PM sensille: amd phenom, lpt on board. you recommended isolcpus a few days ago to me, and it helped
03:44 PM sensille: i don't see any problems during operation, but i'm not sure i'd notice
03:44 PM sensille: but i basically wanted to hear that that spike is normal
03:45 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, merged thanks
03:46 PM JT-Shop: sensille, I've only had one PC that did that in the last 10 years
03:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: what is yuou base thread time currently?
03:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yuou/your
03:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's in your.hal file
03:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sorry I meant your .ini file
03:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: you can raise the number to make the warning go away, but it will also limit the top speed of stepping via LPT
03:51 PM cpresser: Is there an easy way to use a 5i75 with a chinese-el-cheaop-cnc-parallel-port-breakout?
03:52 PM cpresser: erhm 5i25. Those part numbers bamboozle me
03:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: cpresser: sure you just need to match the IO pins with the IO of the cheap BOB
03:53 PM Tom_L: what he said only i type slower
03:53 PM Tom_L: get an old scsi cable and hack it apart
03:53 PM cpresser: I just found PROB_RFX2 in the manual. that looks good
03:54 PM sensille: CaptHindsight[m]: 62500
03:54 PM Tom_L: mesaflash will give you the signals
03:55 PM JT-Shop: dang fixed one bug and created another one
03:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: i think that you should check your BIOS settings for speed stepping, power management, etc and turn it alloff
03:56 PM JT-Shop: cpresser, 5i25_5ABOBx2.bit
03:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: all my Phenom systems run way faster than that except for one HP that has a BIOS without many features
04:00 PM sensille: i gave 10000 as latency in stepconf
04:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: 10,000 ? 1 with 0000 ( 4 zeros)?
04:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: stepconf is a tools to create config files, it has a latency test link in it
04:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: try running the latency-histogram (it's not in stepconf)
04:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: run latency-histogram and open a browser and play some youtubes
04:05 PM sensille: i just ran the latency test so far, and it was mostly around 6000ns jitter. i'll look for the histogram
04:06 PM sensille: the link in stepconf just leads to the regular latency test
04:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: why did you enter the base thread in the .ini to 62,500?
04:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I am concerned about typos here, 62,500, 6000nS, one is 10x the other
04:08 PM sensille: i don't think i did. isn't it completely generated by stepconf?
04:08 PM sensille: in stepconf in says something about 25000ns for base thread
04:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sensille: stepconf will ask you to run the latency test and then Enter a number for the base thread
04:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: so you have type it in
04:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the default value is 15,000
04:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: for " Base Period Maximum Jitter: "
04:11 PM sensille: and I entered 10,000
04:11 PM sensille: i just regenerated the config, still 62500 in there
04:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: make sure you are modifying the right files
04:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Machine Name: in StepConf
04:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: when you open Stepconf it asks "Do you wish to:"
04:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Create a new configuration
04:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Modify a configuration ...
04:15 PM sensille: at least the mtime of the file changed
04:15 PM sensille: but i can just manually lower it to, what 25k?
04:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I don't know if you are modifying the correct files or not
04:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: anyway, have to go
04:17 PM sensille: i think so. I verified that the mtime changed after a stepconf run. and i verified that the launcher points to that file
04:17 PM sensille: me too, will try more tomorrow
04:19 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, I retract the previous statement
04:21 PM JT-Shop: I don't have mesaflash installed here so mesact does the right thing
04:21 PM * JT-Shop now wonders where the 1" wrench that sits on top of the lathe tailstock is???
04:25 PM JT-Shop: another puzzle solved... time to make Chicken Crack
04:37 PM Tom_L: i thought mesaflash worked anyway
04:41 PM JT-Shop: what do you mean?
04:42 PM Tom_L: <JT-Shop> dang fixed one bug and created another one
04:43 PM Tom_L: i thought you were changing something to do with mesaflash but it worked fine already
04:43 PM JT-Shop: <JT-Shop> Tom_L, I retract the previous statement
04:43 PM Tom_L: because you didn't have it installed..
04:44 PM JT-Shop: when I selected a card the firmware button was disabled and it momentarily cornfused me
04:44 PM Tom_L: probably good to have different PCs in different states of configuration so things show up
04:44 PM Tom_L: ahh
04:44 PM JT-Shop: but mesact should disable the firmware buttons on bootup
04:44 PM Tom_L: oh
04:47 PM Tom_L: right, and.. if you pick 'Select' on a board a 2nd time it also is disabled
04:51 PM JT-Shop: I was checking for mesaflash in 3 places... all use the same code now
04:51 PM Tom_L: i would have left one outdated for tests but it seems to work good now so meh
04:52 PM JT-Shop: what is disabled?
04:53 PM Tom_L: the firmware dropdown if you return to 'Select' on the Board selection
04:53 PM JT-Shop: as it should
04:53 PM Tom_L: if you really wanna get slick, you could disable the sserial tab if the firmware doesn't support sserial
04:54 PM Tom_L: that would be quite a bit of work i'm afraid
04:54 PM JT-Shop: well most cards support sserial
04:54 PM JT-Shop: so it's not a firmware thing
04:54 PM Tom_L: true
04:54 PM * JT-Shop listens to PF Brain Damage
04:55 PM Tom_L: had an engineer type trying to tell me how to do my job...
04:55 PM Tom_L: fun
04:55 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:56 PM Tom_L: i'm sure you can relate to that
04:56 PM JT-Shop: an oil field engineer came in on the boat with the crew... I asked him why... he said he just wanted to see how the other half lived... I told him now that you have seen you can get off
04:56 PM Tom_L: heh
04:57 PM Tom_L: it's fun to watch them when you can absolutely keep up with 'their' conversation
04:57 PM Tom_L: and tell them why it won't work
04:58 PM JT-Shop: yep
04:58 PM JT-Shop: I still feel that a phd does not make a well rounded engineer
04:58 PM Tom_L: this one owns a cnc machine shop
04:58 PM JT-Shop: you still need to learn the trade
04:59 PM Tom_L: i think a good part of the degree should include a semester of hands on field training
04:59 PM Tom_L: most of the trades do that..
05:00 PM Tom_L: only longer
05:00 PM Tom_L: like 5 yr on some
05:01 PM roycroft: engineers don't need any field experience
05:02 PM roycroft: i should rephrase that
05:02 PM roycroft: engineers are not required to have any field experience
05:02 PM roycroft: but i think they *need* to have field experience to be good engineers
05:03 PM roycroft: if you haven't made parts, for example, it's hard to design parts that can be made efficiently
05:03 PM roycroft: or even made at all
05:04 PM JT-Shop: I think I'll put a qtabwidget where the pin out is one for description and one for pins
05:28 PM JT[m]: JT-Shop: Tom_L were you making parts for him?
05:38 PM xxcodery: roy honestly hands on is always good
05:38 PM xxcodery: knowledge is abstract
05:51 PM Tom_L: no
05:54 PM xxcodery: knowledge isnt abstract? or was that no to something else?
05:55 PM Tom_L: no to jt
05:55 PM JT[m]: Oh a buttinsky
05:56 PM Tom_L: he's an ok guy, just over thinks everything
05:57 PM JT[m]: Ah
05:57 PM JT[m]: I can relate to that
05:58 PM xxcodery: Â tom ok
05:58 PM JT[m]: My rule is never offer advice unless requested
05:59 PM Tom_L: he ordered some 3d printed parts to replace some perfectly good ones some time back because he said the other might warp
05:59 PM Tom_L: metal
06:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/temp/Bracket.jpg
06:01 PM Tom_L: they didn't fit either as you can see
06:02 PM Tom_L: took .030" off each end x 4
06:04 PM JT[m]: Time to call it a night
06:04 PM Tom_L: light weight but machined like cast iron
06:04 PM JT[m]: Cool
06:05 PM Tom_L: swapping parts out made absolutely no difference except in his mind
06:05 PM JT[m]: LOL
06:06 PM Tom_L: oh and a couple of the pre threaded holes were stripped out
06:06 PM JT[m]: LOL
11:28 PM roycroft: why am i getting ron desantis ads youtube and my tv today?
11:28 PM * roycroft wonders when oregon became part of florida
11:39 PM _unreal_: welcome to the tropics LOL
11:57 PM roycroft: they aren't even ron desantis ads
11:57 PM roycroft: they are "charlie crist is a dick" ads
11:57 PM roycroft: because that's how political ads fly these days
11:57 PM roycroft: on both sides
11:59 PM roycroft: only five more days and we're free form this for a while
