03:55 AM Tom_L: morning
03:56 AM Tom_L: 47°F hi 84
03:56 AM pere: hi
05:17 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:18 AM JT-Cave: hmm 36°F tomatoes may not make it
08:26 AM * ddB05153011[m] uploaded an image: (858KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/PQCcSCalCdDydUXgkiuMpDeL/IMG20221014142343.jpg >
08:26 AM ddB05153011[m]: I've made cheap alternative
08:26 AM ddB05153011[m]: and now writing subroutines for it
08:27 AM ddB05153011[m]: but not so experienced and struggling a bit 😦
08:27 AM ddB05153011[m]: but is also learning curve 😉
08:54 AM ddB05153011[m]: so why when I do this... (full message at <https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/69989c09f85312c1b4f0e244ed1c9d2d932c5b2c>)
08:55 AM ddB05153011[m]: and if I remove prolog and epilog then works (and subroutine is called) 🤔
08:55 AM ddB05153011[m]: I'm on 2.9 (master) and probe_basic (if that is relevant)
08:55 AM ddB05153011[m]: s/toolchange/rack_toolchange/
09:58 AM roycroft: wq
10:04 AM ddB05153011[m]: so I needed [PYTHON] in ini file and now works fine 💪
11:06 AM solarwind: ZincBoy[CAON][m] still amazes me how servo motors can do the same thing as stepper motors in terms of advancing a single "step"
11:07 AM solarwind: advancing and holding just 1.8º or less on a permanent magnet motor with ~10 poles
11:08 AM solarwind: But I guess with insanely high resolution optical encoders and feedback, makes sense
11:34 AM Tom_L: ddB05153011[m], be sure to approach the tool rack from the front (i noticed where the spindle was sitting)
12:34 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: @solarwind, servos will usually vibrate around a few counts of the encoder. This is because a PID loop will drift one way or the other until it sees the encoder count change. This usually doesn't matter as the encoder resolution is high.
12:35 PM solarwind: Yeah that's not a big deal. 16 bit encoder is already 65k values
12:35 PM solarwind: way more precision than I'll ever need
12:36 PM solarwind: I haven't done the math, but I'm pretty sure just one count at that resolution would translate to less than 1µm travel on a "standard" ball screw
01:19 PM ddB05153011[m]: this image that I posted is when rack is extended and tool picked up and gone to HOME
01:20 PM ddB05153011[m]: next is probe tool and so on but having issues all over with subroutines (still learning)
01:21 PM ddB05153011[m]: do you know what this mean?
01:22 PM ddB05153011[m]: ```Issuing EMC_TOOL_PREPARE```
01:22 PM ddB05153011[m]: and then freeze on that step (nothing else is happening when switching tool)
01:23 PM ddB05153011[m]: found THIS[https://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/remap/structure.html] hope will help a bit
01:33 PM justHaunted is now known as ffffffradiofree
01:34 PM ffffffradiofree is now known as jusFffffffradiof
02:00 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:01 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Pretty sure EMC_TOOL_PREPARE is the T word call.
02:19 PM jusFffffffradiof is now known as justThumbs
02:21 PM justThumbs is now known as justVain
02:52 PM Tom_L: ddB05153011[m], it's a signal sent to iocontrol and waits for iocontrol to complete the operation

02:55 PM Tom_itx: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man1/iov2.1.html
02:55 PM Tom_itx: iocontrol.0.tool-prepare
02:55 PM Tom_itx: (Bit, Out) TRUE when a Tn tool prepare is requested
02:55 PM Tom_itx: iocontrol.0.tool-prepared
02:55 PM Tom_itx: (Bit, In) Should be driven TRUE when a tool prepare is completed.
03:00 PM Tom_L: there are several tool/toolchanger pins there you may want to look into
04:12 PM unterhausen: That's interesting that debian digs so deep into the software
04:43 PM ddB05153011[m]: yeha got that as I don't have toolchanger that don't support that I have to enable looped mode... (full message at <https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/fa0ededa0f233ca501cc0f060f64a13186f72191>)
04:44 PM ddB05153011[m]: progressing slowly as is a lot of information to process
04:45 PM ddB05153011[m]: s/don't//
07:23 PM skunkworks: roycroft: Dad has a 2003? ford 250 - the fuel tank is plastic.
07:24 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, you finish the car rebuild?
07:25 PM skunkworks: been driving it.. Still need a grill. Other than that - it is awesome
07:25 PM Tom_L: cool
07:25 PM skunkworks: now that the weather is colder - getting 40+mpg
07:27 PM xxcodery: nice
07:28 PM roycroft: i looked at mine and i can't really tell
07:28 PM xxcodery: my focus stays in range of 29-32 mpg lol mostly 31
07:28 PM roycroft: i'm looking at winch mounting options right now
07:30 PM roycroft: and the rear receiver hitch is just a tube welded on the frame
07:30 PM roycroft: it's probably class 2
07:31 PM roycroft: so i'll probably need to get a new rear hitch
07:55 PM roycroft: closer inspection reveals that it's actually a class 5 hitch in the back, so excellent
07:56 PM roycroft: and it's also going to be expensive to mount a winch in the front, but i can get a winch mount for a receiver hitch for $75
07:57 PM roycroft: imo winches are generally better in the front of a vehicle, but i could live with mounting in the rear temporarily
08:10 PM unterhausen: So with lxrt, does a mesa ethernet board work with rtai?
08:11 PM infornography: linuxcnc covers a wide variety of topics
08:12 PM unterhausen: it's possible this channel goes off topic a lot
08:13 PM roycroft: does it really?
08:13 PM * roycroft never noticed
08:19 PM xxcodery: sure. ;)
08:21 PM roycroft: so the channel topic is not "stuff that happens in the universe"?
08:29 PM Tom_L: unterhausen, afik you have to have preempt-rt with mesa ethernet
09:05 PM roycroft: robbie coltrane has left the building :(
09:06 PM xxcodery: higard actor? yeah. was 72
09:07 PM roycroft: yes
09:37 PM roycroft: so dumbledore, snape, uncle dursley, narcissa malfoy, griphook, cornelius fudge, ollivander, kreacher, tom of the leaky cauldron, bathilda bagshot, the bus driver, the fat lady, and hagrid have all left the building
09:40 PM roycroft: the original fat lady, i should clarify
09:40 PM roycroft: dawn french, the second fat lady, is alive and well
09:41 PM * roycroft hopes the harry potter talk is not much outwith the topic
09:45 PM xxcodery: ... thats a lot more actors than I thought that shuffled off coil of life
09:48 PM roycroft: the franchise goes back over 20 years now
09:49 PM xxcodery: makes sense I guess
10:19 PM Thorhian[m]: Anyone here familiar with building linuxcnc on arch linux? I have installed bwidget but the configure script keeps saying it isn't installed. Tclsh seems to be working just fine though. Haven't been able to get this working all night.
11:27 PM mrec: that HSS circle cutter works fine to cut out circles from sheet metal
11:27 PM mrec: still need to test a carbide circle cutter / hole cutter
