01:59 AM Loetmichel: CaptainHindsight: define soft glass. standard soda-lime glass?
02:22 AM xxcoder[m]: borosilicate capt said. not sure if that was specific enough
02:22 AM Loetmichel: [06:32] <CaptHindsight[m]> soft glass is easier to work with
02:23 AM Loetmichel: I read that as : "easier than borosilicate "
02:24 AM xxcodery: ahh you might be right not sure :)
02:32 AM jpa-: yeah, borosilicate is usually regarded as hard/high temperature glass
02:34 AM CaptainHindsight: yes boro vs soft glass
02:34 AM CaptainHindsight: soft glass = standard soda-lime
02:35 AM CaptainHindsight: bongs and scientific glass are made from boro
02:35 AM xxcodery: so you cant print with boro?
02:36 AM CaptainHindsight: yes
02:36 AM CaptainHindsight: as well as cast using 3d printed molds
02:38 AM xxcodery: isnt that inject molded glass process use boro?
02:38 AM xxcodery: been a while so not sure
02:39 AM CaptainHindsight: that was soft glass
02:40 AM CaptainHindsight: https://www.techbriefs.com/component/content/article/tb/pub/briefs/energy/39971
02:40 AM CaptainHindsight: https://cen.acs.org/materials/New-technique-injection-molding-glass/99/web/2021/04
02:41 AM xxcodery: ahh yeah.
02:42 AM xxcodery: well I hope those will be heavily used in future. replace some applications of plastic for less world pollution
02:43 AM CaptainHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jzWPcU80Ig
02:44 AM * Loetmichel wonders if you could make an SLS printer with AlO2
02:44 AM Loetmichel: aka saphhire glas
02:45 AM xxcodery: wild guess, you take powder to just below fuse temp
02:45 AM xxcodery: then laser it over
02:45 AM Loetmichel: point is: what is the fuse temp of saphire?
02:46 AM Loetmichel: is that even achieveable?
02:46 AM CaptainHindsight: 3,762°F
02:46 AM CaptainHindsight: 2,072°C
02:47 AM xxcodery: hot.
02:47 AM Loetmichel: hmm
02:48 AM Loetmichel: indeed. pretty hot
02:48 AM CaptainHindsight: that is how synthetic sapphire gems are made
02:49 AM xxcodery: just get it hot enough I guess but thanks to loet I wonder about sls lol
02:50 AM CaptainHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0N4JYN9lFI
02:53 AM xxcodery: virtually unwatchable on rpi4. bah lol
03:11 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by molybdenum.libera.chat
04:43 AM Tom_L: morning
04:50 AM JT-Cave_: mornin
04:52 AM JT-Cave_: 74.3 Mbps down 5.66 Mbps up
04:53 AM Tom_L: big improvement
04:55 AM JT-Cave_: huge
04:57 AM xxcodery: wow nice
04:58 AM TurBoss: bravo!
04:59 AM Tom_L: unlimited data?
05:01 AM JT-Cave_: yup
05:01 AM JT-Cave_ is now known as JT-Cave
05:02 AM xxcodery: watch all videos!!
05:02 AM xxcodery: ;)
05:02 AM xxcodery: here i have pretty good unlimited data, but rpi4 4 gb dont really play videos well. aw
05:03 AM xxcodery: I thought pc was fixed, it ran for 2 days
05:03 AM xxcodery: then it refused to boot basically. POST error
05:04 AM xxcodery: I found that cpu heat sink was bit loose. might have been it. I ordered paste for it
05:05 AM Tom_L: the faster it is, the more data you use :)
05:06 AM Tom_L: 279.8 Mbps down 10.7 Mbps up and i've almost reached my limit
05:06 AM Tom_L: but i'm on streaming tv too
05:08 AM Tom_L: they use ALOT more than i do
05:23 AM Deejay: moin
12:17 PM perry_j1987: hows it going
12:21 PM perry_j1987: i seem to be having trouble squaring up this block on the mill
12:21 PM perry_j1987: lol
12:22 PM Tom_L: is the mill square?
12:23 PM perry_j1987: looks like over 6" im off .43mm
12:24 PM Tom_L: time to tram it
12:24 PM perry_j1987: its this 6040
12:24 PM perry_j1987: just hand jogging it across this block to face it and then flippedi t over in the vise and did a pass on the other side to get this measurement
12:26 PM perry_j1987: just jogging in X
12:29 PM perry_j1987: thing thats perplexing i measured some stuff i've milled in the past in the same way and its dead on
12:29 PM perry_j1987: there's no adjustments in X that could cause it sagging like that really
12:31 PM perry_j1987: oh actually that old block i did on tape on a faced spoilboard
12:31 PM perry_j1987: so nevermind
12:34 PM Loetmichel: good that you found the error. btw: i just took a week to mill a 600mm by 400mm by 15mm block of alu into 80% alu dust. a 6mm two flute with 0,3mm DOC and 1200mm/min feed is about the end of what the 6040 can do. it starts to flex the gantry noticeable if you go deeper or faster. also the 800W watercooled spindle (dont know which version you have) starts to RPM down and the VFD complains
12:34 PM Loetmichel: about slip/overcurrent.
12:34 PM Loetmichel: just for your information, perry_j1987
12:39 PM perry_j1987: i have the 2.2kw watercooled
12:40 PM Loetmichel: ah, so it wont complain about overload, but still the gantry will flex.
12:41 PM perry_j1987: i really am thinking of picking up an emco concept 55 mill wit 8 tool changer
12:44 PM perry_j1987: i upgraded the z axis on this 6040 so i have 200mm of travel
12:44 PM perry_j1987: made some nice aluminum angle brackets to bolt into the existing x axis block that bolted the new Z axis on
12:44 PM perry_j1987: its stronger than it was stock and more travel
12:45 PM perry_j1987: i had thought about taking the x carriage block off and machining it so i could switch to suppoted rails
12:45 PM perry_j1987: and put a big backing plate on the thing
12:48 PM Loetmichel: the problem is the unsupported rails in x (on the gantry). they flex like crazy
12:48 PM Loetmichel: its NOT the z axis or the x axis blocks
12:49 PM jpa-: Loetmichel: are you doing slot cuts or some adaptive toolpath?
12:49 PM perry_j1987: ya i did some cad modeling and the backside of the vertical supports are perfectly inline with the x rails if you swapped them for supported rails
12:49 PM perry_j1987: you'd only have to press out the old bearings and mill clearance for the supported rails and put in the new C shaped bearings
12:49 PM Loetmichel: jpa-: both. slot cuts for contour and "pocket" cuts from inside to outside with half the mill bit width
12:51 PM Loetmichel: perry_j1987: i thought about that. decided (as both CNC6040 i wiork on belong to the company) i just got a few quotes for "semi-profi" gantry machines and give the boss a heart attack instead.
12:51 PM jpa-: for me a higher DOC & smaller stepover has worked well for pocket cuts - and for contours i nowadays use freecad's adaptive profiling that goes around in circles to get smaller tool engagement
12:51 PM Loetmichel: the 6040 isnt meant to do production work 8h a day 5 days a week anyways
12:54 PM Loetmichel: jpa-: MOST of my work is done with 2mm and 1.2mm two flute tungsten carbide bits. deeper DOC results in a broken tool because of flexing. and the smaller stepover doesent help because you have to plunge down (or sideways) into the material for pockets anyway before you can circle
12:55 PM perry_j1987: another option i thought of for the X axis stiffener was a box channel bolted to the back and mount a linear rail on the top of it with a plate to the top of the X axis to help add some triangulation
12:55 PM Loetmichel: could help
12:56 PM Loetmichel: or make it worse if the linear rails isnt perfectly aligned with the two unsupported round rails
12:56 PM perry_j1987: aye
12:57 PM perry_j1987: i just want to stop tinkering so much and get a class better of machines that i can press buttons at least a bit more with my time haha
12:58 PM Loetmichel: well, anyways i am pretty suprised that said 6040 lived for 6, no 7 years in an industrial enviroment now.
12:58 PM Loetmichel: doing nothing but alu and brass (mostly sheet metal though)
12:58 PM perry_j1987: nice
12:59 PM perry_j1987: i have a 4th axis, machinist vise, spoil board and a perminately mounted fixture on the bed of this thing
12:59 PM Loetmichel: with nothing more than 6 broken stepper couplings in the beginning.
01:00 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14193&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:00 PM perry_j1987: if i get the emco concept 55 mill i'll put everything on pallets so i can easily swap out and not have to sweep anything in
01:00 PM Loetmichel: those are simply garbage
01:00 PM perry_j1987: ouch
01:00 PM Loetmichel: replaced them all with those: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=15011&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:01 PM Loetmichel: (had to turn them down a bit to fit them into the stepper mounts)
01:01 PM perry_j1987: im still on the stock ones
01:02 PM Loetmichel: thats one of the machines btw: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17586&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:02 PM perry_j1987: hows it so clean
01:03 PM Loetmichel: newly built enclosure
01:03 PM Loetmichel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTIEvURkxO8 <- here are both in action
01:03 PM perry_j1987: i have mine facing the other way
01:04 PM perry_j1987: nice setup
01:05 PM perry_j1987: mine has much less z clearance than yours
01:05 PM perry_j1987: under the gantry
01:05 PM Loetmichel: those little 50 eur shopvacs are only good for half a year for the vacuum tables though
01:05 PM Loetmichel: then the brushes are used up
01:06 PM Loetmichel: i now have a single 2kw three phase side channel compressor/pump for both vacuum tables. (and some 40mm drain tubing/1,5" ball valves)
01:06 PM perry_j1987: could you use a vacum pump to suck it down through a 1 way valv so it doesnt have to run all the time?
01:06 PM Loetmichel: MUCH better
01:07 PM Loetmichel: nah, i mill through the sheet metal so you need plenty of volume
01:07 PM Loetmichel: the more channels are open
01:09 PM perry_j1987: can gasket off custom areas that you know you wont be cutting through
01:09 PM Loetmichel: the z clearance issue is probably because i made the vacuum tables myself, they are only ~25mm high
01:09 PM Loetmichel: hehe, gasket... thats what painters tape is for ;)
01:10 PM Loetmichel: but its usually big sheets of alu
01:10 PM Loetmichel: so there is nothing to gasket off
01:10 PM perry_j1987: i got about 117mm of clearance under my gantry now with the upgrades i did heh
01:11 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14160&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <- mostly doing shielding enclosures for Computer electronics and peripherials
01:12 PM Loetmichel: or as my boss calls it: "Alu-Origami"
01:12 PM perry_j1987: heh
01:13 PM Loetmichel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRFFRJ3iQRM <- and yes, it IS "hand folded"
01:15 PM perry_j1987: thats pretty cool
01:15 PM perry_j1987: do you threadmill any of that to cut out that step?
01:15 PM Loetmichel: threadmill?
01:16 PM Loetmichel: nah, that would mean changing the tool
01:16 PM Loetmichel: no time for that
01:16 PM Loetmichel: cutting the threads with the battery drill is faster anyways.
01:16 PM perry_j1987: take less time than the drill took
01:17 PM perry_j1987: in alum sheet you could do them in one pass per hole no prob
01:17 PM Loetmichel: it would. IF the tool change were automated
01:17 PM Loetmichel: but if the machine sits half an hour to wait for the tool change than its faster to do it by hand
01:17 PM perry_j1987: oh on my 6040 i have a tool height probe i added
01:18 PM Loetmichel: to be honest: most of the time the 2 machines run unsupervised
01:18 PM perry_j1987: really cut out a ton of frustration and tediousness with tool changes
01:18 PM Loetmichel: one of the reasons for the enclosures
01:19 PM Loetmichel: so it may take a few minuts to hours until i notice that they are done and can change the workpiece/tool while doing my "regular" job
01:19 PM perry_j1987: aye

03:00 PM JT-Shop: tapmatic spd-7 sells for $1,378 I'm listing mine for $1,000 as it's brand new in the box
03:01 PM roycroft: it's $1137 at msc currently
03:02 PM JT-Shop: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/00447656
03:02 PM JT-Shop: link?
03:03 PM roycroft: it's on the right hand side of the link you just posted
03:03 PM roycroft: i don't know what the difference is
03:04 PM JT-Shop: the 70x doesn't come with anything
03:04 PM roycroft: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/09491259
03:04 PM JT-Shop: oh I see the spd-7 at the bottom of the page
03:05 PM roycroft: your link says spd-7, but the picture is an spd3
03:05 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: so you can actually look at links now without blowing your data cap????
03:05 PM JT-Shop: so long as I don't unplug the router lol
03:06 PM JT-Shop: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/09491291?orderedAs=18787&pxno=1801866
03:06 PM JT-Shop: that's the one I have so I'll list it at $750
03:07 PM JT-Shop: Backordered Temporarily out of stock.
03:07 PM roycroft: so you can add an unobtanium fee to yours
03:07 PM JT-Shop: yep
03:07 PM JT-Shop: I listed it for $800
03:09 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: have you programmed any comp's ???
03:13 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/master/src/hal/components/time.comp
03:16 PM roycroft: i found a couple pickups that are slightly interesting during my lunch break today
03:16 PM roycroft: i really need to spend more to get what i want than i have cash to spare, though
03:16 PM JT-Shop: as in a truck?
03:17 PM roycroft: so maybe i'll go get pre-approved for a small car loan afte rwork
03:17 PM roycroft: yes
03:17 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: I have a simple little comp that I would like to submit. Pere is going to help with with. I have an error check in the code, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
03:17 PM roycroft: they car dealers don't seem to understand my needs
03:17 PM roycroft: i want something that is clean, reliable, diesel engine, 4x4, full-size bed, and costs next to nothing
03:17 PM JT-Shop: all they understand is selling vehicles
03:18 PM roycroft: i don't see why that's so hard to comprehend :)
03:18 PM JT-Shop: hmm pick any two
03:18 PM * JT-Shop notices that lcnc is not installed on this pc
03:18 PM roycroft: actually, i'd be fine with clean, reliable, 4x4, and full size bed
03:18 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], does the comp work otherwise?
03:19 PM roycroft: diesel adds at least $3k
03:19 PM roycroft: one thing i am hearing a lot is this:
03:19 PM roycroft: the a/c needs to be "recharged"
03:19 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: yes. it does. compiles, installs, everything.
03:19 PM roycroft: which means it doesn't work
03:19 PM roycroft: and i think i'm going to insist on working a/c
03:20 PM roycroft: especially since 90% of my use of the vehicle will be in the summer
03:21 PM * JT-Shop notices it's time to spoil the hens
03:21 PM xxcodery: recharge also means inspection to ensure its still nonleakt
03:21 PM xxcodery: bit of money unless you just refill it yourself
03:22 PM xxcodery: which runs into possible still leakt
03:22 PM xxcodery: leaky
03:22 PM roycroft: yes
03:23 PM roycroft: and if they tell me it needs to be "recharged" and i tell them that i won't buy it unless they do it, they will just do it in-house and not get it inspected
03:23 PM roycroft: and it will still leak
03:30 PM * roycroft paid $750 for his current pickup about 15 years ago, and has invested another $500 in a new head for it, but has done no other maintenance
03:30 PM roycroft: i think i got my money out of that one
03:48 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:51 PM JT-Shop: what kind of truck was it?
03:52 PM xxcodery: lol roy reminded me of mecury sable I had. bought it for 1k, paid 700 usd something for all new brakes, some new hoses, and new water pump. it then lasted 12 years without serious maintance since that
03:53 PM JT-Shop: 697 packages can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see them.
04:04 PM roycroft: 88 toyota
04:04 PM roycroft: with a 22r
04:05 PM roycroft: last year before the 22re
04:06 PM roycroft: my 77 toyota pickup, which i had when i lived up in bellingham, also had a 22r
04:13 PM * roycroft is amazed at how many people lose or throw away their ballots, wait until right before the election, then demand a new one and insist that we count it even if it arrives late
04:18 PM JT-Shop: which blade do I need for ripping with the track saw?
04:21 PM roycroft: https://www.festoolusa.com/accessory/496305---160x2,2x20-pw12-usa
04:21 PM JT-Shop: thanks
04:22 PM roycroft: you still might need to make two passes on thick hardwood
04:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: do you not like the fuel injected re version?
04:24 PM JT-Shop: ok, good to know
04:24 PM roycroft: i would prefer it
04:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I like showing the kids how to adjust the idle on carburetors, especially when there are two
04:25 PM roycroft: but in '88 it was only standard on pickups sold in california
04:25 PM roycroft: and so isn't commonly found around here from that era
04:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: probably took a few years until they were all RE versions
04:29 PM roycroft: iirc re was standard nation-wide starting in 1999
04:30 PM roycroft: er, 1989
04:30 PM roycroft: it was an option before then
04:30 PM roycroft: but keep in mind that i'm wrong a lot
04:30 PM roycroft: so "iirc" doesn't necessarily mean much
04:32 PM roycroft: i am more confident about vw buses
04:33 PM roycroft: it was '74 when the type 2 came with fuel injection in california, and 1975 for the rest of the country
04:33 PM xxcodery: I havent seen a vw bus for few years now
04:33 PM roycroft: you have not been to eugene then :)
04:33 PM roycroft: they are still all over the place here
04:34 PM roycroft: i saw a half dozen of them at the two used car dealerships i went to at lunch time today
04:34 PM xxcodery: nice
04:34 PM xxcodery: I havent even seen new beetle here for quite a while
04:35 PM roycroft: although there are more vanagons than type 2 buses these days
04:35 PM roycroft: not too many eurovans, though, but that's probably because eurovans are so over priced
04:35 PM roycroft: used beat up ones still go for $40k+
04:36 PM xxcodery: ouch lol
04:36 PM xxcodery: my bro has 1967 beetle shell
04:36 PM xxcodery: he want to make it a ev evenually
04:37 PM roycroft: i would still like to convert my '65 bus to an ev, but at this point i don't think that's going to happen
04:38 PM roycroft: i'm probably better off just selling it for an insane amount of money to someone back east
04:39 PM xxcodery: so it can rust out in future
04:39 PM xxcodery: sucks but owners gonna do stuff
04:40 PM roycroft: if it's done properly it will last another 50 years
04:40 PM xxcodery: I wonder if it would be possible to powdercoat basically everything lol
04:40 PM xxcodery: or in least parts where salt water reaches
04:40 PM roycroft: folks tend to do bare frame restorations, and use modern coatings
04:40 PM roycroft: and the owners who spend $60k restoring the vehicles garage them
04:41 PM xxcodery: yeah id do same
04:41 PM xxcodery: come out only in very nice weather
04:41 PM roycroft: yes
04:41 PM roycroft: mainly to take to car shows
04:42 PM xxcodery: sure though I probably wouldnt, if I restore obne its for my own enjoyment driving it
04:42 PM roycroft: when i get my '74 bus back on the road my intent is to use it as a camper
04:43 PM xxcodery: I want to get one of those european tiny cars for fun lol though it'll never be licesed for road
04:45 PM roycroft: maybe you can get a jet powered beetle
04:45 PM roycroft: https://www.craigslist.org/about/best/sfo/7241823593.html
04:45 PM roycroft: that one is street legal
04:45 PM roycroft: and also very much not so
04:46 PM xxcodery: lol
04:46 PM xxcodery: im still sad elio never come to be
04:47 PM xxcodery: it'd be perfect small car for me
04:47 PM xxcodery: in fb in in bex group, theyre making car similiar to elio
04:48 PM xxcodery: they fairly recently revealed that they are planning a ev elio. its likely funding scam honestly
04:52 PM JT-Shop2: oh cool the track saw has the same cord as the sander so I can plug the vacuum line into it
04:52 PM roycroft: yes
04:52 PM roycroft: well, the track saw plug-it cord will work with your sander
04:52 PM xxcodery: nice
04:52 PM roycroft: but your sander's plug-it cord won't work with the track saw
04:52 PM xxcodery: well you also has 3d printer
04:53 PM xxcodery: you have all ponental adoptors
04:53 PM roycroft: the sander cord is 18ga
04:53 PM roycroft: the track saw cord is 16ga
04:53 PM roycroft: and the connectors are different, such that the 16ga cord will plug into an 18ga socket, but not vice versa
04:54 PM roycroft: i have a jacketed hose on my extractor, and it has a 16ga plug-it cord in it, so i can use it with all my festools that have plug-it sockets
04:55 PM roycroft: jt is in the "oh, cool, they actually engineered things well" phase of his festool experience
04:56 PM roycroft: that will eventually shift to "oh, this is normal" when dealing with festool and "why did they do this wrong" when dealing with other brands
04:57 PM JT-Shop2: hmm so the vacuum cord is 18ga or 16ga?
04:58 PM xxcodery: cord as in power cable? I misread that as vacuum system to get rid of chips and dust
04:59 PM JT-Shop2: oh I see the difference in the cord ends and the vacuum has the 16ga end so it fits both tools
04:59 PM JT-Shop2: the vacuum hose has a cord under the jacket and when you start the tool the vacuum comes on
04:59 PM roycroft: yes, that's what i have on my midi
05:00 PM roycroft: xxcodery: festool have a feature on their extractors where the extractor turns on automatically when a tool that is plugged into it turns on
05:00 PM roycroft: so they make an extractor hose that has a jacket around it
05:00 PM xxcodery: chip and dust extractors?
05:01 PM xxcodery: just making sure, im not in great shape still
05:01 PM roycroft: the jacket serves two purposes: 1. it is smooth so it does not get caught on corners, and 2. it has a power cord run through it inside a channel, so you can easily connect both power and extraction to your tool
05:01 PM roycroft: yes, extractor = hepa vacuum
05:02 PM xxcodery: ahh so I was right AND wrong. fun lol. so adoptors probably isnt possible unless you run conductors in it
05:06 PM roycroft: a lot of people complain about the plug-it system on festool products
05:06 PM roycroft: i personally love it
05:06 PM roycroft: i have a half dozen sanders, and often use multiple sanders on the same project
05:07 PM roycroft: being able to unplug and plug in a different one in seconds is really great
05:07 PM JT-Shop2: and roycroft lied to me, he said I'd have a dust free shop if I purchased a CT MIDI I... but I knew better
05:07 PM roycroft: i don't think i said that
05:07 PM JT-Shop2: well something to that effect
05:08 PM roycroft: what i believe i said is that you'll get >98% extraction when using it with a festool sander
05:15 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop2: ok. I changed = to == and all is better. prints the error message with or without debug on..... THANKS.
05:15 PM JT-Shop2: np
05:15 PM roguish[m]: I will pass it to Pere to help submit it.
05:16 PM JT-Shop2: I would prob do if x != 0 do stuff else complain
05:16 PM JT-Shop2: roguish[m], can you do a pull request?
05:17 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop2: that's what pere said he would help with. I have never to one of those, and I don't want to frak anything up.
05:19 PM roguish[m]: why would you use the reverse logic? just curious....
05:19 PM JT-Shop: basically you want your branch up to date when you do a pull request
05:20 PM JT-Shop: I always look for a good condition first and if not the do else some issue
05:20 PM JT-Shop: easier to read IMHO
05:21 PM JT-Shop: like try except in python
05:21 PM Tom_L: does python evaluate <> the same as != ?
05:21 PM roguish[m]: ok, makes sense.... but anyone using a divide routine out to know not to divide by zero....... hopefully it's a check for simple typos
05:21 PM roguish[m]: and left out parameters.
05:22 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, no, afaik just !=
05:23 PM JT-Shop: correction yes <> is the same as !=
05:23 PM Tom_L: i would typically use != in most languages but i have seen both
05:23 PM JT-Shop: but <> has been removed from python3
05:24 PM Tom_L: odd
05:25 PM xxcodery: probably to remove complex compiler logic
05:25 PM Tom_L: not backward compatible then
05:25 PM xxcodery: could be wrong.
05:25 PM xxcodery: python 3 you can call as different language than 2
05:25 PM xxcodery: honestly they SHOULD have renamed it
05:26 PM xxcodery: to some other snake probably
05:26 PM xxcodery: like diamondback
05:26 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:26 PM xxcodery: and left python to version 2, only updating it to fix bugs and exploits
05:27 PM JT-Shop: on recent os python is not found but python3 works
05:27 PM * JT-Shop wanders to the cat house to relax for a while
05:27 PM perry_j1987: https://i.ibb.co/QkKB1L1/68721847265-F1-FB97-DC-42-CF-4-B66-A162-B434-FA8029-B0.jpg here's my project i've been working on this last few days
05:27 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, what os was that that had 600+ updates?
05:27 PM Tom_L: bookworm?
05:27 PM Tom_L: alot of those are docs
05:28 PM xxcodery: jt honestly likely because trying to run python 2 scripts would likely to have error
05:28 PM xxcodery: so theyre forcing it by making python3 command rather than just python.
05:28 PM Tom_L: i did notice that
05:29 PM Tom_L: made me feel more enpowered to type the 3
05:32 PM xxcodery: diamondback. im telling you
05:32 PM xxcodery: or viper? might be better because shorter
06:01 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, yea d12
06:02 PM Tom_L: i've been trying to do daily updates since it's not a 'release' yet
06:02 PM Tom_L: most are docs
06:22 PM _unreal_: :( angela lansbury died
07:28 PM t4nk_fn: yeah, I've been mourning all day :(
07:29 PM t4nk_fn: such a young age too :(
07:29 PM t4nk_fn: only 96 or so
07:30 PM t4nk_fn: well, that's all she wrote :b
07:30 PM t4nk_fn: too soon?
08:49 PM bjorkintosh: "murder"
10:08 PM Thorhian[m]: So in the documentation for the 7i73, they list a specific kyocera 20x4 display. The part number came up on Digi-Key, but it seems to be out of production and obsolete. They listed this as a direct substitute: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/C204A1-KW-XW65/14552677
10:09 PM Thorhian[m]: Anyone know if this would work with the default firmware.
10:09 PM xxcodery: theorically direct sub means it should
10:09 PM xxcodery: reality, dunno
10:10 PM xxcodery: direct sub should mean pinouts etc is all same, including firmware to control it
10:13 PM Thorhian[m]: Hmm. Okay.
10:15 PM xxcodery: im sure someone will answer with more firm answer evenually
10:18 PM Thorhian[m]: Here is the original part. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/C-51847NFQJ-LW-AAN/769332
10:21 PM xxcodery: seems that site hates noscript
10:21 PM xxcodery: im blocked
10:21 PM xxcodery: first link loaded but I guess it automatally added me to block lisr
10:23 PM Thorhian[m]: Digi-Key? Really? They don’t block me when I use ublock.
10:26 PM xxcodery: noscript is cause im pretty sure
10:26 PM xxcodery: its basically only plugin I use now
11:42 PM Thorhian[m]: But yeah, I have a 10.1” touchscreen to use as my monitor for the machine. I figured I’d use the LCD display output on the 7i73 to display extra info as well. I like the look too.
11:44 PM xxcodery: cool :)
