12:42 AM Deejay: moin
04:43 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:45 AM mrec: is there any special name for an mt2 adapter? it's hard to find
05:14 AM Tom_L: morning
05:15 AM Tom_L: adapter for what?
05:16 AM mrec: mtb2
05:16 AM mrec: mtb2 tapers
05:16 AM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Anncus-Collet-Milling-Adapter-Extension/dp/B07K5S7RQX
05:16 AM Tom_L: >
05:18 AM mrec: seems to be a rare item
05:19 AM mrec: maybe I'll just buy a cheap tailstock and cut it into shape
05:19 AM mrec: I want to add a second crossslide instead of the original tailstock
05:25 AM Tom_L: what's that got to do with an m2 adapter?
05:31 AM mrec: I need 4 tools on it the live center I'd prefer to stay MTB2, centerdrill, drill and reamer
05:32 AM mrec: other tools I can just clamp into square er20 adapters
06:38 AM mrec: I parted off 114 slices last time on the mini lathe, I need to work on eliminating the manual work with the tailstock
06:39 AM mrec: 114 slices 32mm steel
08:16 AM JT-Shop: 40-66
09:17 AM mrec: Tom_L: it's okay, the parting tool is 1.5mm
09:17 AM mrec: I'm doing the second set of gears now another 100
09:35 AM Rab: mrec, MTB2 is MT2 with a drawbar thread?
09:44 AM mrec: yes
09:49 AM mrec: does anyone know is there a way to initialize a timer in G-Code for profiling?
09:51 AM Tom_L: cycle timer?
09:51 AM Tom_L: i have cycle timers on my axis screen
09:52 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/screenshots/Rotary_Axis_screenshot.png
09:52 AM Tom_L: current is the active tool and overall is acumulative
09:53 AM JT-Shop: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/time.9.html
09:54 AM Tom_L: building debs atm
09:54 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL_SHOP_2.8.2/postgui.hal
09:54 AM Tom_L: cycle timers
09:57 AM JT-Shop: ok
09:57 AM Tom_L: what's new on it?
09:57 AM Tom_L: anything i should be testing?
10:00 AM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/commit/70bc0a3e9729af7fe893b9d9cb74c8ed0e425b51
10:02 AM roguish[m]: how's the Starlink?
10:03 AM JT-Shop: I'll mess with it tomorrow after my daughters leave
10:03 AM JT-Shop: gotta cobble up a flat spot for the peak of the machine shop roof and test the location tomorrow
10:05 AM roguish[m]: good deal....
10:06 AM Tom_L: pr #32
10:10 AM mrec: Tom_L: thanks I'll install that for next time
10:15 AM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop: how long did it take from when you asked about starlink service until the equipment arrived?
10:20 AM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], the tar thing wouldn't work or i don't know how to make it work with a SD
10:20 AM Tom_L: fdisk didn't work either
10:21 AM CaptHindsight[m]: bummer dude, I feel yah😢
10:21 AM Tom_L: i could resize it but it wouldn't boot
10:22 AM Tom_L: change things back to the full size and booted fine again
10:48 AM JT-Shop: CaptHindsight[m], a long long long time
12:21 PM pere: <URL: https://sourceforge.net/p/emc/mailman/emc-developers/?viewmonth=202210 > seem to be not accepting emails. :(
12:21 PM pere: silopolis[m] said he sent an email yesterday which have not yet made it to the list.
12:48 PM * mits5782[m] uploaded an image: (162KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/njVIjKWrMQzaiwtsvuoTFSHr/unknown.png >
12:48 PM mits5782[m]: Tom_L got any advice for compilation errors? I'm getting a bunch from the HDL compiler:
12:48 PM mits5782[m]: this is just me trying to build the source straight up, no changes
01:02 PM mits5782[m]: I picked an example PIN file that doesn't actually exist in the source, all good now
01:08 PM mits5782[m]: And I have a license error... I swear I got a license
01:18 PM mits5782[m]: A license was not found for the 'ISE' feature.
01:33 PM mits5782[m]: aha, great software
01:34 PM mits5782[m]: tells you license was loaded successfully, lying
02:15 PM jpa-: i normally run with G64 P0.01 Q0.01 but today suddenly after loading a new file, linuxcnc went into G64 (without P) mode instead.. none of the files had G64 codes in them
02:16 PM jpa-: i wonder if it is possible to see current path blending tolerance somehow
02:28 PM jpa-: looks like it is the mysterious "settings" in linuxcnc status
02:30 PM jpa-: and looks like the bug is already fixed in git, just not in 2.8 https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/issues/177
03:09 PM mrec: does anyone have an industrial grade lathe? I think about using an oil cylinder with my tailstock
03:09 PM mrec: did anyone ever configure something like that with linuxcnc?
03:30 PM CaptainHindsight: use an oil cylinder in what way?
03:30 PM CaptainHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGyFhN01M4M
03:31 PM CaptainHindsight: https://www.langmuirsystems.com/mr1
03:46 PM mrec: CaptainHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23zdj2W9iTY
03:47 PM CaptainHindsight: it looks like no matter how poorly a kit is offered there are some followers since it's new
03:48 PM mrec: CaptainHindsight: possibly the owners themselves
03:50 PM CaptainHindsight: a hydraulic tailstock would not be a problem for LCNC
03:54 PM CaptainHindsight: ON/OFF a pump
03:54 PM mrec: I need to study that topic a bit more
03:54 PM CaptainHindsight: add an encoder for closed loop positioning
03:55 PM mrec: I guess it will require some pressure sensor
03:55 PM mrec: an encoder is not enough for a tailstock
03:56 PM CaptainHindsight: ok, I am a terrible mind reader
03:56 PM mrec: I'm at the beginning with that topic
03:57 PM CaptainHindsight: sorry
03:58 PM rdtsc: hmm any idea why 'git clone git://github.com/linuxcnc/linuxcnc.git linuxcnc-dev' would return a connection timeout?  Can ping github.com.
04:00 PM roycroft: telnet github.com 9418
04:01 PM roycroft: that will tell you if the git server is running
04:01 PM roycroft: ping just means the host is running and reachable
04:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: rdtsc: looks like just you
04:01 PM roycroft: it tells you nothing about services
04:04 PM rdtsc: Interesting, 'telnet github.com 9418' also times out. Weird, worked fine yesterday.
04:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: rdtsc: try through a proxy
04:13 PM perry_j1987: decisions decisions... do i slice off a 1inch slab off this 3x4 chunk of aluminum to make a 1x4 subplate for this lathe's gangtooling
04:14 PM perry_j1987: or order a 1x4 chunk at 55 bucks
04:30 PM rdtsc: Scratching my head here... reboot router and reinstall git - no change.
04:31 PM roycroft: you are not connected directly to the github server
04:31 PM roycroft: it could be anywhere in between you and them
04:32 PM roycroft: if you can do packet tracing on your wan gateway device, start a trace and then try the telnet command again
04:32 PM roycroft: you'll at least know if you're passing traffic on that port to the outside world
04:36 PM rdtsc: tried a 'traceroute github.com' and it shows most nodes as no-reply, but that's not necessarily unusual.  Gonna try to reboot this (RPi4B) and try again.  KISS approach, lol
04:40 PM roycroft: traceroute is useless here
04:40 PM roycroft: since you can ping it, so you know you have connectivity
04:45 PM rdtsc: no joy. can surf, can ping, but not git clone... very odd
04:50 PM xxcoder[m]: wonder if it uses specific server for git clone, and its down
04:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: works fine here
04:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/github
04:56 PM rdtsc: github.com[0: 140.82.113.4]: errno=Connection timed out
04:56 PM rdtsc: funny thing is, this IP responds to pings
05:00 PM rdtsc: is there a dns resolver cache in Debian Buster, and can it be flushed?
05:04 PM rdtsc: reading up on systemd-resolved and dnsmasq
05:05 PM rdtsc: neither are running
05:05 PM xxcoder[m]: capt did you trygit clone?
05:05 PM xxcoder[m]: it might be very specific issue rather than general connection
05:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: but it's not
05:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ping, traceroute, clone, login etc , all works here
05:12 PM rdtsc: 'git clone' does give the expected usage info.  Even tried cloning the olive video editor (trying to eliminate something specific with linuxcnc) and it timed out on that one also.
05:13 PM xxcoder[m]: strange
05:21 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ

05:23 PM xxcoder[m]: finally got my psu
05:24 PM xxcoder[m]: slowly fixing it now lol
05:57 PM _unreal_: fixing?
05:58 PM _unreal_: on I just picked up 2 free .. psu's I have not taken them home yet
05:58 PM _unreal_: but they are transformer based golf cart psus transformer based
05:58 PM _unreal_: 36 or 48v? I forget
05:59 PM xxcoder[m]: booting pc now
05:59 PM xxcoder[m]: looks like its ok so far. power button dont turn off right away
05:59 PM xxcoder[m]: need to transfer keyboard and mouse lol
06:07 PM xxcoder[m]: wow
06:07 PM xxcoder[m]: so much faster lol
06:07 PM xxcoder[m]: and im seeing what I type on motn rpi4 montior and pc montior lol
06:07 PM xxcoder[m]: *both
06:09 PM xxcoder[m]: not used to having letters literally appear as I type, rather than 1-2 seconds delay lol
06:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:15 PM roycroft: you're all better now?
06:16 PM XXCoder: seems so
06:22 PM XXCoder: im using only one montior as rpi4 is using other one for now
06:22 PM XXCoder: I want to see if pc is stable longer term
06:43 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:03 PM solarwind: Bad idea to mount a reciprocating engraver tool onto my CNC router?
08:03 PM solarwind: IT's one of those small hand held carbide tip engravers
08:03 PM solarwind: There would be lots of 60Hz vibration on the Z axis. It's a 6040 class CNC router
08:14 PM perry_j1987: evening
08:15 PM andypugh: Might be a bad idea, might be great. I don’t feel that I can predict.
08:15 PM andypugh: It’s a 6040, you bought it one, what’s the worst that can happen?
08:20 PM roycroft: i don't know why one would eve use such a tool on a cnc router, when a proper could be installed and used to do engraving that is not hideous in appearance
08:21 PM solarwind: I don't think the appearance is bad
08:22 PM solarwind: It's unique in the way it works. It punches material out of the way instead of cutting it
08:24 PM andypugh: So does a drag engraver, though.
08:24 PM andypugh: You might want this: https://www.scorchworks.com/Fengrave/fengrave.html
08:26 PM roycroft: i just got a donor movement for my mantle clock that i'm about to refurbish
08:26 PM roycroft: so i'll be dipping my toes in horology starting perhaps as soon as tomorrow
08:27 PM XXCoder: thats cool :)
08:28 PM roycroft: it should be fun, if i can keep track of where everything goes
08:28 PM XXCoder: take pictures
08:28 PM XXCoder: videos of you pulling it apart
08:28 PM roycroft: yes, i shall take pictures
08:30 PM roycroft: the clock is a smiths enfield, which is quite common, so it should be easy to get parts for it should i need anything else
08:30 PM XXCoder: thats good
08:31 PM XXCoder: I am reminded of that watch restore guy yt who had part spring off
08:31 PM XXCoder: guy had to order another rare watch to fix it.
08:31 PM roycroft: it has three problems: 1. the announciator clickspring is broken; 2. the movement spring was overwound, and 3. it does not run because it hasn't been serviced in like forever, and all the oil is now a solid
08:31 PM roycroft: hopefully i won't find any more problems
08:32 PM roycroft: i have released the overwound spring already
08:32 PM XXCoder: you got those new oils and such?
08:32 PM XXCoder: like denser blue grease for metal-metal when energy losses isnt important
08:33 PM roycroft: i got some oil that's made for clockworks like this
08:33 PM roycroft: it's different to the oils used in wristwatches
08:33 PM XXCoder: yeah? curious why difference
08:33 PM roycroft: it's made for non-jeweled mantle/wall clocks
08:34 PM XXCoder: so its designed more for metal-metal contacts?
08:34 PM roycroft: yes
08:34 PM roycroft: it's for bushed pivots
08:34 PM roycroft: it will be interesting to see if i get the clock working again
08:35 PM roycroft: i bought it at a garage sale 20+ years ago, and it has never worked
08:35 PM roycroft: well, never since i've owned it
08:35 PM XXCoder: lol ok
08:36 PM roycroft: the case is a bit scratched up, but if i get the movement working i can fix the case
08:36 PM XXCoder: wood?
08:36 PM roycroft: i was going to have a go at making a clickspring to replace the broken one, but i got the donor movement for $20 including shipping
08:36 PM roycroft: yes, it's wood
08:36 PM XXCoder: talking about clock, I found an older cheapie office wall clock lol I'm slightly tempted to print a case for it. fancy looking thing
08:37 PM XXCoder: more likely ill do yard sale or something and sell it off
08:37 PM roycroft: it's very simlar to this:
08:37 PM roycroft: sck
08:37 PM roycroft: sorry, you did not see that :)
08:37 PM * XXCoder takes notes
08:37 PM XXCoder: "did not see (address)
08:38 PM roycroft: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175405291500
08:38 PM roycroft: that is what i meant to paste
08:38 PM XXCoder: deleted it on discord
08:38 PM XXCoder: interesting
08:38 PM roycroft: if tom_l sees this, i'd appreciate his deleting it from the log
08:38 PM XXCoder: someone for matrix too
08:40 PM roycroft: anyway, that's a very common mantle clock
08:41 PM roycroft: and a fairly simple, and decent size movement
08:41 PM roycroft: so i thought it would be a good first horology project
08:41 PM XXCoder: yeah
08:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I deleted the whole message
08:42 PM roycroft: thank you
08:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: on Matrix
08:43 PM roycroft: so now i just need to talk to tom_l
08:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no problem
08:43 PM roycroft: and he's around frequently
08:45 PM roycroft: i need to get going
08:45 PM roycroft: it's concert night
08:45 PM XXCoder: later
08:46 PM roycroft: blondihacks was interesting today
08:46 PM roycroft: btw
08:48 PM XXCoder: ok I got two to watch I think or maybe one
08:48 PM XXCoder: 35 videos lol and nearly 100 royalroad chapters to catch up lol
11:38 PM * CaptHindsight[m] uploaded an image: (37KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/icAxHojVauWPluhwjSOfZEBz/ntu-08Oct2022-61.png >
