12:02 AM Thorhian[m]: ZincBoy[CA, ON] (@_discord_554508768402997249:jauriarts.org) I found cheaper ones from grayhill (still expensive but not $40-$50 expensive) with detents :). https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/26ASD22-01-1-AJS/304485
12:11 AM Thorhian[m]: They can be loaded with stopping pins as well.
12:54 AM Deejay: moin
02:54 AM tivoi: hi all
02:55 AM tivoi: can i change adptive feed in mode auto?
02:58 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:05 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:12 AM Loetmichel: jpa: its a three phase VFD spindle. SHOULD be fairly RPM constant.
04:13 AM jpa-: Loetmichel: yeah, increasing slip in induction motors does indicate fairly high load
04:17 AM Loetmichel: expecially noticeable reduction in RPM by sound. that should not happen in NORMAL operation of an induction motor.
04:33 AM Tom_L: morning
04:48 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:46 AM jpa-: Loetmichel: i agree; typically induction motors have maximum slip of about 5% at the maximum torque point, so about 400 -> 380 Hz difference in sound - and at that point it would right on the edge of maximum load
05:47 AM jpa-: hmm, looks like some motors can be up to 20% slip at maximum torque
05:47 AM jpa-: i think i have a very similar spindle from vevor, would be interesting to measure its load curves some time
07:50 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Those do look nice. I didn't realize that the smaller ones like that had the adjustable stops as well. Plus these ones have up to 16 positions.
08:10 AM * JT-Cave officially gives up on the python configparser
08:40 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, did you try searching for the tab character?
08:41 AM Tom_L: 0x09
08:42 AM JT-Cave: http://paste.debian.net/1255541/
08:43 AM Tom_L: you started adding the contents back in?
08:44 AM JT-Cave: I'm just doing a replace by index so original file does not get trashed
08:45 AM JT-Cave: I get the start:stop index of each section and only search for a key within those boundaries
08:45 AM Tom_L: ok
08:46 AM Tom_L: so [SECTION] has x number of lines... don't go past it
08:47 AM Tom_L: i can somewhat follow but still get lost in python
08:52 AM Tom_L: i'll try running that later to see the result.. not enough time right now
10:23 AM Deejay: hi there
01:34 PM roguish[m]: ldksjf
01:37 PM Tom_L: if you say so
01:39 PM roguish[m]: I get messages that i'm kicked off for being idle......... wth
01:40 PM Tom_L: on irc or matrix?
01:40 PM roguish[m]: matrix
01:40 PM Tom_L: could be
01:40 PM Tom_L: tell us more about yourself then :)
02:09 PM andypugh: Ooh! There’s an idea, swarf christmas decorations: https://youtu.be/ItHvcvIlTBw?t=20
02:13 PM Tom_L: need some crispy blue steel ones in there
02:14 PM XXCoder: roguish[m]: want to cull number of connections from matrix to irc I guess. donbt really matter as you can still see messages from here and you would "rejoin" when you say something
02:15 PM XXCoder: andypugh: thats cool
02:32 PM JT-Shop: a guy that bought a gas weed wacker from me came by yesterday with a 1" coupling with 1/4" key and a 7mm key and wanted me to make it fit... I suspect he has a 25mm shaft
02:34 PM roycroft: that sounds rather canadian to me :)
02:37 PM JT-Shop: I looked at mcmaster and a 25mm bore coupling has an 8mm key...
02:44 PM * JT-Shop tries to decide if he wants to take the Starlink Best Effort plan now or wait until mid 2023 for Residential plan
02:44 PM roycroft: sounds like you need to find out what the guy needs and perhaps make a coupler
02:45 PM XXCoder: starlink is starting to be bit laggy from what I hear, but hey better than limited bandwidth
02:47 PM JT-Shop: depends on the area
02:47 PM JT-Shop: and yeah that's what I was thinking as I don't have great speeds now
02:50 PM JT-Shop: 18.0 Mbps download 1.31 Mbps upload just tested but don't know if that's good or bad lol
02:50 PM Tom_L: bad
02:50 PM Tom_L: :)
02:50 PM JT-Shop: starlink 50Mbps to 200Mbps
02:51 PM XXCoder: dunno, we have fiber optic here lol pretty good speeds. good thing since we have so many devices and videophones here.
02:51 PM JT-Shop: there is a fiber oboma cable 1.6 miles from me but it's not connected to anything
02:52 PM Tom_L: 153mb down, 11.9mb up
02:52 PM Tom_L: a bit laggy today...supposed to be 200
02:53 PM Tom_L: 187mb & 11.9 on another site
02:54 PM XXCoder: some isps will boost speed when they detect youre using speed measure site
02:54 PM XXCoder: in past, I had abused that fact
02:54 PM XXCoder: start large download then start "testing" bandwidth
02:54 PM XXCoder: download is a lot faster
02:54 PM Tom_L: i never check it unless somebody brings it up
02:55 PM XXCoder: it was pretty long ago when 1 mbps was good
02:55 PM Tom_L: back when 300 baud modems were popular?
02:55 PM XXCoder: lol my first model was 2400
02:56 PM XXCoder: took couple hours to download 1 mb file
02:56 PM Tom_L: i had 300 1200 2400 then whatever jumps came next
02:56 PM XXCoder: my last phone modem was 24k
02:57 PM XXCoder: then we moved on to cable internet. it was before company that was bought out by comcast
03:05 PM JT-Shop: just pulled the trigger on starlink best effort plan
03:05 PM XXCoder: thats cool :) hope its worth it
03:06 PM JT-Shop: me too
03:10 PM roycroft: i ran an isp on a 56k frame relay circuit back in the early '90s
03:11 PM roycroft: it was all dial-up back then, though
03:18 PM JT-Shop: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/calling-any-one-from-missouri.73271/page-1591#post-26192187
03:19 PM XXCoder: if I was designing out a shaded area for chickens, id use solar panels for shadows
03:20 PM XXCoder: use power from that as slow trickle charge battery backup for house or something
03:31 PM roycroft: you could use the power from that to run a stereo that plays calming, happy egg-laying music for the chickens
03:32 PM XXCoder: if enough power, high temperate AC for roost too
03:32 PM XXCoder: set it to say 80f or so, so dangerous temps is averted
03:37 PM JT-Shop: the chickens are in a naturally shaded area in the summer and plenty of light in the winter
03:38 PM JT-Shop: and the rpi plays music from sunup to sundown
03:38 PM XXCoder: nice
03:38 PM roguish[m]: if ya get solar, don't forget the battery. solar with out battery is just silly.
03:38 PM XXCoder: rog depends on usercase but often is the case
03:39 PM roguish[m]: darkness is the case......
03:39 PM roguish[m]: sort of happens every day.
03:40 PM XXCoder: well yeah but then you dont always need power in nights
03:52 PM JT-Shop: interesting starlink dish tracks the satellite and will melt snow
03:53 PM XXCoder: yeah not too hard I think
03:53 PM XXCoder: all it need to do is stay above ice temperate
03:54 PM JT-Shop: the dish detects snow and melts it somehow
03:55 PM XXCoder: hmm sounds overcomplex
03:55 PM XXCoder: id just include cermic heater tuned to say 40f
03:55 PM XXCoder: power it always
03:55 PM XXCoder: cermic heater has interesting properity, if it reaches temperate, or higher, current is extremely low
03:56 PM XXCoder: so its using very little power
04:03 PM Tom_L: what's it do about rain?
04:03 PM XXCoder: likely nothing
04:05 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/Jc3tj2h1_Y4
04:08 PM XXCoder: https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/rv0v5h/i_thought_starlink_was_supposed_to_do_well_in_the/
04:09 PM JT-Shop: I imagine it's like my current sat in the rain... not much service, but I hope it's better than what I have now
04:10 PM XXCoder: yeah
04:13 PM Tom_L: rain doesn't seem to be much of a problem this year
04:13 PM Tom_L: at least around here
04:13 PM Tom_L: been a dry year
04:14 PM XXCoder: only rained one day so far
04:15 PM XXCoder: its cooling down here but slowly, very firmly in 70s F range
04:19 PM XXCoder: well more or less anyway lol today is 68f and sunday-monday is 81f
04:57 PM JT-Shop2: 40's - 70's and sunny here for the next few days
04:58 PM JT-Shop2: raining hard and windy at my sisters house
05:03 PM XXCoder: wow
05:03 PM XXCoder: this is cool

06:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not cat proof
06:23 PM daight4206460[m]: Does anyone know what the v in the probe basic page does?
06:29 PM daight4206460[m]: Pic loading
06:29 PM daight4206460[m]: 30,000 seems high i dunno much
06:31 PM * daight4206460[m] uploaded an image: (719KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/PYyDkIKAKLhFJhctAjQZTiYw/20220930_161620.jpg >
06:32 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight[m]: I remember that picture yeha lol
06:32 PM XXCoder: *yeah
07:55 PM deathofxbox8107[: anyone got a hal file for step gen is pos mode with encoder feed back ?
08:52 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, i ran that last file you posted and don't see the problem
09:01 PM pcw--home: deathofxbox8107[: If you have a stepgen with encoder feedback, you need the stepgen to run in velocity mode.
09:03 PM deathofxbox8107[: mmm gotcha
09:04 PM deathofxbox8107[: well the issue i am running into is that the y seems to creep
09:04 PM deathofxbox8107[: the x and z are fine
09:06 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: If the y axis DRO reports the correct position then the encoder input is missing counts. Could be EMI or some other issue.
09:06 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: By correct, I mean the expected position.
09:07 PM pcw--home: if you have creep with encoder feedback it likely indicates a mechanical problem or missed encoder counts
09:14 PM deathofxbox8107[: mmmm
09:14 PM deathofxbox8107[: well its not the coupler
09:15 PM deathofxbox8107[: maybe noise ? but i run a custom break out board from the servo drivers with differeitnal matched lengths and everything even use a double sheilded rj45 cat 6e data cable for the encoder feed back
09:15 PM deathofxbox8107[: bob boards are 4 layers with top and bottom solid grounds
09:18 PM pcw--home: so whats different about Y?
09:19 PM pcw--home: Also what encoder counting hardware?
09:20 PM deathofxbox8107[: 7i76e + 7i89
09:20 PM deathofxbox8107[: nothing
09:20 PM deathofxbox8107[: its the only one thats a direct drive
09:21 PM deathofxbox8107[: the x is a belt but its 1 to 1 ratio same a z
09:21 PM deathofxbox8107[: its a 2500 count encoder

09:22 PM deathofxbox8107[: this is the servo
09:23 PM pcw--home: What is the maximum velocity? (to calculate the encoder count rate)
09:23 PM pcw--home: is Y faster than X /Z
09:25 PM deathofxbox8107[: no xy is a 10mm and the z is a 5
09:25 PM deathofxbox8107[: screw pitch
09:25 PM deathofxbox8107[: i have it set at 200 atm
09:26 PM deathofxbox8107[: mm/s ? idk i think my ini is werid tbh
09:27 PM pcw--home: 200 mm/s with a 10MM pitch is 20RPS*10000 = 200 KHz count rate which should be no problem
09:29 PM pcw--home: You might try running Y as pure step/dir without encoder feedback to see where the problem lies
09:29 PM pcw--home: (this is basically a 2 or 3 line change in the hal file)
09:30 PM deathofxbox8107[: yea i forgot how to lol
09:30 PM deathofxbox8107[: changing it now to see
10:42 PM deathofxbox8107[: Yea fine now
10:42 PM deathofxbox8107[: Werid
10:48 PM pcw--home: You might check the differential levels of the Y axis encoder A/B signals
10:49 PM pcw--home: (and that the 7I89 is indeed jumpered for differential signaling on that axis)
10:51 PM pcw--home: measure between A and /A (and B and /B) The absolute differential voltage should always be >2V
11:04 PM deathofxbox8107[: Well
11:04 PM deathofxbox8107[: The xyz use the same bobs
11:04 PM deathofxbox8107[: Same cables too
11:14 PM pcw--home: an open on a differential pair may result in a partially working counter (so its good to verify the differential voltages)
11:29 PM deathofxbox8107[: true
11:29 PM deathofxbox8107[: might just swap the cable out too
