01:14 AM Deejay: moin
01:57 AM mrec: pcw-home: your parcel arrived in Taiwan, thanks
04:42 AM Tom_L: morning
05:09 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:09 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning
07:27 AM Tom_L: 56F
08:26 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, no place to dl arm64 deb on the menu
08:27 AM Tom_L: ... was checking the dl path since they were moved
08:45 AM JT-Cave: they are only removed from the branches not master
08:45 AM JT-Cave: if you're looking at a branch I've not built any debs for them
08:45 AM Tom_L: master branch
08:46 AM Tom_L: i'm building fresh since you moved things around
08:46 AM JT-Cave: oh I misread no, I don't have a menu item to d/l the arm64 deb yet
08:46 AM JT-Cave: need to add that to master
08:46 AM Tom_L: i got errors so i figured i should rebuild
08:47 AM Tom_L: if soon, i'll wait to build debs
09:02 AM JT-Cave: pushed, but needs to be tested
09:02 AM Tom_L: ok
09:03 AM Tom_L: i was getting ready to push the debs but i'll include that now
09:12 AM Tom_L: works on amd64
09:14 AM Tom_L: dl is super slow today
09:45 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, #22 ready
09:46 AM Tom_L: it may show 2 arm64 debs but should discard the older one
09:50 AM JT-Shop: ok
09:51 AM Tom_L: menu ok
09:51 AM JT-Shop: good
09:52 AM JT-Shop: I think the second arm64 will write over the first one...
09:52 AM Tom_L: i couldn't figure out how to discard it
09:52 AM JT-Shop: I need to update the amd64 deb real quick before I go
09:53 AM Tom_L: i could have pushed that too
09:57 AM JT-Cave: I have to pull anything you push before I can push :)
09:58 AM JT-Cave: maybe I'll get done with ini2 tomorrow, it puts all the configuration data needed by the tool in the ini and does not overwrite any key values that are not part of the tool
09:58 AM JT-Cave: so you can add any valid section, key values you want and they are safe
09:59 AM Tom_L: gonna be a hard one to test
10:49 AM * c101horse8332[m] uploaded an image: (2152KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/BiqjXzesHrIlXnvlyXpPZoOL/unknown.png >
10:49 AM c101horse8332[m]: picked my new mill up today
11:02 AM roguish[m]: c101horse🇳🇱#8332: congratulation
11:31 AM roycroft: mine is too heavy to lift without help
11:45 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.wabeco-remscheid.de/catalog/category/view/s/milling-machines/id/131/
12:04 PM c101horse8332[m]: i just bought the non cnc one, as i have the cnc stuff allready
04:08 PM JT-Shop: about froze our asses off this morning on the BlueWing 63°F and overcast all the way to The Terrace in French Village
04:21 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: retired life is tough...........
04:22 PM JT-Shop: I'll let you know when I retire...
04:33 PM Tom_L: kid interviewed for a new job $6 more/hr and accepted, today his old place wants him to be a supervisor now not knowing he's about to hit the road
04:34 PM roycroft: will his current employer offer him a raise of >$6/hr?
04:34 PM roycroft: since they want him to be a supervisor now
04:37 PM XXCoder: sometimes supsrvisor means more respobilities for same pay
04:39 PM roycroft: often it is a salaried job, and not only is there no pay raise, the hours are longer
04:42 PM Tom_L: no
04:43 PM Tom_L: he found another place and plans to go there
04:43 PM Tom_L: #1 doesn't know he's leaving yet
04:43 PM Tom_L: so he'll either get walked out or serve 2 wks
04:44 PM Tom_L: since they do govt work he may get walked out which is what he actually hopes
04:45 PM XXCoder: hope so. will he get 2 weeks pay anyway? I recall it should be done
04:45 PM XXCoder: even if walked out
04:45 PM Tom_L: he said most of his dept gave notice today too
04:45 PM XXCoder: whoa
04:45 PM Tom_L: he'll get his comp time anyway
04:45 PM Tom_L: x, you want a job move here...
04:46 PM XXCoder: tom yeah id move if I could work
04:46 PM XXCoder: my brain still messy and im always dizzy
04:46 PM Tom_L: k
04:47 PM Tom_L: he said the new place has some new 6 axis
04:48 PM Tom_L: and all the controls are the same as what he's used to
04:48 PM XXCoder: thats awesome
04:49 PM XXCoder: wonder whats going on with "tom jr" current job if everyones leaving
04:49 PM Tom_L: a fairly new startup here based out of Calif. spend 4.5mil on new equipment so far
04:50 PM Tom_L: they kinda have a reputation but it was a good place for him to get his feet wet
04:50 PM Tom_L: he's 21 and they're offering him supervisor... something must be wrong
04:51 PM Tom_L: most everybody else there is 2x his age
04:51 PM XXCoder: yeah, that sounds very bad
04:51 PM Tom_L: but lazy
04:56 PM Tom_L: when he got there, there was a team of 3 doing what he does now by himself
05:02 PM XXCoder: your son should have been paid more if there is 3 now
05:02 PM XXCoder: im not saying 3z pay but quite a bit more
05:03 PM Tom_L: that's just how they are
05:03 PM Tom_L: he'd rather do it himself than have some deadbeat working along side
05:03 PM XXCoder: i rather have deadbeat than someone drinking at work but yeah
05:03 PM XXCoder: I remember one worker that briefly worked
05:04 PM XXCoder: he kept drinking on breaks, and left many crap in drawers
05:04 PM XXCoder: like stack of music cds
05:04 PM XXCoder: its work drawer, not "personal drawer"
05:04 PM Tom_L: speaking of.. years ago i worked with a guy that couldn't function unless he had a bottle of vodka in his pocket
05:04 PM Tom_L: everyone knew it
05:05 PM XXCoder: when he was fired, he took his crap back, except for one quite rusty 123 block
05:05 PM XXCoder: that block tells me level of care he had lol
05:08 PM XXCoder: tom yeah that guy was way too careless
05:08 PM XXCoder: my coworker told me he knew a guy similiar with yours
05:08 PM XXCoder: he was a lot more careful, worked for few years before he was caught literally drinking it in his car outside on break
05:24 PM XXCoder: anyway Tom_L hope your son does very well at new place
05:38 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:02 PM andypugh: Tom_L: Did the guy just need to know the vodka was there if he needed it, or did he actually drink it?
06:03 PM roycroft: vodka is a pretty effective antiseptic
06:03 PM roycroft: if one is working in a dirty environment and tends to suffer lacerations, having a bottle of vodka in pocket could be useful
06:05 PM roguish[m]: yeah, dulls the pain too, if ya drink enough.
06:05 PM roycroft: yup - double use
06:05 PM roycroft: antiseptic and anaesthetic
06:06 PM roguish[m]: the UK pound is below $1.09
06:06 PM roguish[m]: time for a UK holiday.......
06:07 PM roycroft: it's going to turn into the loonie before long
06:08 PM roguish[m]: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/
06:08 PM roguish[m]: https://www.ft.com/
06:11 PM roycroft: the thing is
06:12 PM roycroft: the brits need to import stuff, not export stuff
06:12 PM roycroft: they don't have enough stuff for everyone
06:13 PM roguish[m]: lot of countries like that. not much in the way of raw materials. like Japan....
06:13 PM roguish[m]: great at doing stuff, but have to bring in lots of stuff.
06:15 PM roycroft: intentionally crashing the pound is kind of counterproductive, don't you think?
06:15 PM roguish[m]: you mean Truss?
06:15 PM roycroft: yes
06:16 PM roguish[m]: don't really know enough to fairly judge.... she's supposed to be like old Maggie Thatcher.
06:16 PM roguish[m]: so I read
06:17 PM roycroft: this is her economic platform:
06:17 PM roycroft: 1. slash taxes
06:17 PM roycroft: 2. increase military spending significantly
06:17 PM roycroft: 3. do not increase the debt
06:17 PM roguish[m]: kind of Reagan esq
06:18 PM roguish[m]: only time will tell.
06:18 PM roycroft: she's going to accomplish this by eliminating 2/3 of the civil service, without increasing unemployment
06:18 PM roguish[m]: where they gonna go?
06:19 PM XXCoder: so basically turning goverment version of
06:19 PM XXCoder: "breatharian"?
06:19 PM roycroft: i hear there are some jobs open in eastern europe
06:19 PM XXCoder: aka magically are funded without money
06:19 PM roycroft: if you don't mind wearing a uniform
06:19 PM roguish[m]: yeah, exactly
06:19 PM roguish[m]: strap on an explosive vest............
06:20 PM roycroft: but at least she's not bojo :)
06:20 PM roguish[m]: he was definitely pretty silly. about as messy as his hair
06:21 PM roycroft: but at least he did not engage in "thingy" with a dead pig while at eton
06:21 PM roycroft: at least not that we're aware
06:21 PM roycroft: and i don't think we want to be made aware
06:25 PM * roycroft bought some red oak today, and needs to make it flat
06:56 PM Tom_L: andypugh, he drank it
06:56 PM XXCoder: roy nice
06:56 PM Tom_L: every now and then they'd scold him about it
06:57 PM XXCoder: well must have done excellent job anyway
06:57 PM XXCoder: otherwise drinking is easy excuse to fire
06:57 PM Tom_L: he worked in the 'back room' and kept to himself most of the time
07:06 PM XXCoder: ok
07:10 PM roycroft: osha would have issues with people working under the influence
07:11 PM roycroft: i'm certain they would not take kindly to that
07:11 PM roycroft: and would express their disappoval with severe fines and possible shutdowns
07:11 PM XXCoder: likely
07:12 PM XXCoder: though I wouldnt say anything unless guy have done something stupidly dangerous
07:12 PM XXCoder: no reason to involve myself otherwise
07:12 PM roycroft: a random inspection would not go well
07:13 PM XXCoder: across years I worked, osha only come in once
07:13 PM XXCoder: it was due to worker seriously hurting himself
07:20 PM Tom_L: roycroft, this was before osha was a big deal
07:20 PM Tom_L: often overlooked etc

09:33 PM mrec: pcw-home: seems like someone put the wrong capacitors onto the backside of the 7i96S?
09:34 PM Tom_L: on the backside?
09:35 PM Tom_L: i don't see any on mine
09:35 PM mrec: yes it seems like it should have been 0201
09:35 PM mrec: below the FPGA
09:35 PM Tom_L: oh
09:35 PM mrec: especially one of them doesn't look fine but it might just be optical
09:35 PM Tom_L: they're probably for noise
09:36 PM mrec: the fpga needs some bypass caps that's pretty normal
09:36 PM Tom_L: right
09:36 PM mrec: but there's some solder in the middle of the capacitor that's shining out
09:36 PM mrec: not sure if the end has a contact
09:36 PM Tom_L: got a microscope?
09:36 PM Tom_L: i'd look under that and make sure
09:37 PM mrec: yes I have a good one I can make a picture later
09:37 PM pcw-home: Yeah some were assemlbed with the wrong caps
09:37 PM mrec: quick functional tests might still be okay but runtime is another story
09:38 PM pcw-home: 0402s instead of 0201s
09:39 PM Tom_L: yeah these are 0201
09:39 PM mrec: I will check later if it has contact I have all the equipment here
09:39 PM Tom_L: what value?
09:39 PM Tom_L: maybe you can just add some
09:40 PM Tom_L: .01?
09:40 PM Tom_L: .1
09:41 PM Tom_L: i tried hand soldering 0201 and found it easier just to do 0402 with an iron
09:41 PM Tom_L: no hot air here
09:42 PM pcw-home: What issue do you have? (I checked many for continuity and they were OK)
09:43 PM mrec: none yet but it seems like it has no contact the solder is shining below the middle of the component
09:46 PM mrec: my pick and place machine from mechatronika ... they skipped all the bypass capacitors on the pick and place head (next to the microcontroller) the controller reset randomly loading default values back then.
09:46 PM mrec: yes it worked but reliability was soso
09:46 PM pcw-home: So one capacitor is not soldered?
09:47 PM mrec: pcw-home: I will check later in detail
09:47 PM mrec: I'll go for breakfast now
09:47 PM pcw-home: One or 2 wont make any difference
09:47 PM mrec: with my family (outside)
10:42 PM andypugh_ is now known as andypugh
