12:04 AM TurBoss: <XXCoder> "weird that rss-master entered..." <- I added the bot to the bots role maybe that
12:13 AM XXCoder: ahh ok
12:53 AM mrec: does anyone have a mesa 7i80 at hand?
12:54 AM mrec: I think they're using some microchip based ethernet phy with that?
12:54 AM mrec: and the fpga is just connected via spi?
01:28 AM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: the Phy connects to the Ethernet MAC
01:29 AM CaptHindsight[m]: pcw--home: ^^^
01:49 AM Deejay: moin
02:27 AM mrec: they're using KSZ8851-16
02:28 AM mrec: CaptHindsight[m]: certainly, they're using a fully integrated system but that crappy chip is out of stock it seems
02:30 AM mrec: NAC Semi...
02:30 AM mrec: ORDERING INFO
02:30 AM mrec: In Stock: 0
02:30 AM mrec: Available: 2450
02:30 AM mrec: :-)
02:41 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.microchip.com/en-us/product/KSZ8851
02:41 AM mrec: https://www.pusr.com/download/ES1/USR-ES1-EN-V1.0.pdf
02:41 AM mrec: I ordered a few breakout boards for testing
02:42 AM mrec: the mesa cards aren't poorly priced but the shipping cost is too over
02:42 AM mrec: I have several FPGAs here so wiring up that pusr module shouldn't be a big deal
02:44 AM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: what are you working on?
02:44 AM mrec: basically I just want my spindle to be synchronized with the 4th axis
02:44 AM mrec: but I don't want to re-wire my machine
02:44 AM mrec: currently everything is connected to the parallel port
02:46 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://github.com/xjtuecho/EBAZ4205 future hack for LCNC?
02:46 AM mrec: as usual there are many ways to do that
02:46 AM mrec: I also ordered that one :-)
02:46 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://github.com/tomverbeure/panologic also
02:47 AM CaptHindsight[m]: my ZYNQ boards were like $500
02:47 AM CaptHindsight[m]: figures that somebody is dumping them now for $20
02:47 AM mrec: I think the easiest way is still to use the ethernet-spi board and wiring it up with an fpga
02:49 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I'm sitting here with a LPT port, steppers and encoders
02:49 AM CaptHindsight[m]: but I don't need high speed and high res at the same time
02:50 AM mrec: mesa seems to be pretty much the only good commercial source for linuxcnc
02:50 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://pico-systems.com/osc2.5/catalog/index.php
02:51 AM CaptHindsight[m]: those colorlite boards are $16
02:52 AM CaptHindsight[m]: they just need a few $ in mods to be input as well as output
02:52 AM CaptHindsight[m]: and some IO protection
02:52 AM mrec: http://store.mesanet.com/image/cache/catalog/Products/AIO-FPGA-Cards/7i80hdcolo-500x500.png
02:53 AM mrec: this mesa card seems to be very simple
02:53 AM mrec: integrated microchip ethernet controller - fpga - bus switches - resistor networks done
02:54 AM mrec: the bus switches are used for 5v compliance it seems since the fpga parts are only 4v tolerant (of some fpgas they use)
02:54 AM CaptHindsight[m]: yeah wish we could get them
02:55 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Spartan 6, all out of stock
02:55 AM mrec: if we would ship this unit from taiwan shipping would cost around 7$ ...
02:55 AM CaptHindsight[m]: shipping from the USA is always expensive
02:55 AM CaptHindsight[m]: how much was your shipping? $70?
02:56 AM mrec: the post office in Germany changed their postage rate before they cost like 5.50$ international now they don't allow items in registered mails anymore
02:56 AM mrec: ya around 70$ to Taiwan.
02:57 AM mrec: german registered mail was a pretty good deal back then.. 5.50 EUR it included an insurance up to 30$
02:58 AM CaptHindsight[m]: how difficult is it finding parts this year in Taiwan?
02:59 AM mrec: I don't know we have stock for what we need
02:59 AM CaptHindsight[m]: you could hop over to Shenzhen, just avoid getting caught in a lockdown
03:00 AM mrec: CN to Taiwan is pretty quick with SF-Express and just costs small money too
03:00 AM mrec: no need to go there.
03:00 AM mrec: it's good to have a passport of a country that has no weight in the world
03:00 AM mrec: . o Austria :D
03:01 AM mrec: so no one bothers.
03:01 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I'm tired, 3:00 here
03:02 AM mrec: 4pm here
03:26 AM XXCoder: hey andypugh
04:51 AM JT-Cave-: morning

08:33 AM perry_j1987: morning
08:36 AM JT-Shop: yo
08:43 AM perry_j1987: i have an oxa qctp on this lathe that keeps spinning on me
08:43 AM perry_j1987: so annoyed
08:44 AM perry_j1987: other day i took the toolpost riser block off and fly cut the top to make darn sure it was flat and no effect still spinning
08:46 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I cut a shoulder in my toolpost riser block that the qctp registers against. This solved the movement issues.
08:48 AM perry_j1987: ya i was contemplating that
08:49 AM perry_j1987: do you have enough slop in your bolt hole to register against it or were you super precise
11:20 AM * Birdman3131[m]1 uploaded an image: (757KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/LYyDmcijKAJpgLsyNgidkUzd/IMG_20220903_105506.jpg >
11:20 AM Birdman3131[m]1: I know better than to go to flea markets when I'm broke. But got this for $20
11:20 AM CloudEvil: Nice footpump.
11:21 AM * Tom_L wonders if we're looking at the same image
11:22 AM Tom_L: coaxial indicator
11:23 AM CloudEvil: I may not have been being quite serious.
11:26 AM Tom_L: not used alot but every good machinist should have one
11:26 AM Birdman3131[m]1: It does appear unbranded but should work for me.
11:27 AM Tom_L: probably only a handfull mfg them
11:30 AM CloudEvil: :)
11:31 AM Tom_L: the one i got for my kid was a fowler
11:49 AM roycroft: if you got that for $20 you are not broke any more - you just made $300

02:51 PM roguish[m]: frak. NASA scrubbed its launch again.
02:53 PM roguish[m]: better safe that blown up.
03:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: don't hop over to Shenzhen, https://www.reuters.com/world/china/shenzhen-districts-locked-down-china-battles-covid-outbreaks-2022-09-03/
03:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: we are never going to get parts at this rate
03:14 PM roguish[m]: they're all over this zero covid, which is totally unrealistic.. the shit's in the wild. floating everywhere.....
03:14 PM roguish[m]: they could just lie like NK
03:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Chinese Communist Party lie! When don't they?
03:18 PM roguish[m]: CaptHindsight: hey, 'Captn are you programming for freecad path?
03:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not yet, but that is the plan stan
03:19 PM roguish[m]: cool.
03:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not even the closed source expensive CAM does what I need
03:21 PM roguish[m]: guess ya gotta get creative and clever.

04:41 PM roycroft: so folks are complaining about the hobbits/harfoots in the new lotr series being racially diverse, saying that the franchise has become "woke-ified"
04:41 PM roycroft: i didn't see that as a problem at all
04:41 PM roycroft: what i want to know is how the harfoots started out with nice irish accents, but by the time they became hobbitses they had acquired an awful english accent
04:43 PM roycroft: the same folks are complaining that galadriel isn't hot enough
04:43 PM roycroft: so there's that
05:06 PM perry_j1987: how goes it
05:16 PM JT-Shop: got a 1/2" hole through the 1" plate to mount the paraloc vise... pondering opening it to 5/8" but need to check for fasteners in stock firs
05:25 PM roguish[m]: roycroft: have you become a show critic now??? virtually everything has become woke-ified these days.... the elves and dwarfs and humans are racially mixed too. who knows, maybe even the orks will be also. that'd be funny
05:29 PM Rab: I heard they stripped the beards from the lady dwarves, though, which strikes me as slept-ified.
05:33 PM roguish[m]: check this for all the news that's fit to print... https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/lord-of-the-rings-rings-of-power-amazon-cast-interview
05:37 PM Bleepshop: OK... So that'd be a diagnosis of a severe case of Gravity Poisoning? https://dailycaller.com/2022/09/01/russian-oil-chief-ravil-maganov-lukoil-death-fall-illness-reports-moscow/
05:40 PM roguish[m]: just a little nudge....oooops
05:42 PM roguish[m]: he disagreed with Vlad the impaler.......the pusher.
05:42 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, do you do thru hole or thread the plate?
05:43 PM Tom_L: i threaded the plate on mine
05:45 PM JT-Shop: I'm just doing a through hole for the vise on the workbench
05:45 PM JT-Shop: crap ebike fell over and broke the front brake handle... I'm guessing parts for that are unobtainum
05:45 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: print one
05:55 PM Bleepshop: Anybody know a free decent g-code visualizer for mills?
05:57 PM Bleepshop: Got this but it's missing something in this browser. Works [mostly , no M97 Pxxx Lnn] at work, but it's bombing here.
05:57 PM Bleepshop: https://nraynaud.github.io/
06:01 PM perry_j1987: hmm
06:02 PM perry_j1987: the coordinate tool table is actual position right?
06:04 PM perry_j1987: i have tool 1 touched off and x0 moves it to centerline of the spindle
06:04 PM perry_j1987: i look in tool table and it shows an offset of 63mm
06:05 PM perry_j1987: i dont see 63mm in anywhere in machine/show linuxcnc status
06:18 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, https://gnipsel.com/images/machine-shop/mounting-vise.jpg
06:22 PM roguish[m]: a mag drill??? now that's industrial
06:24 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Looks like a Hougen mag drill too. Very nice with the swivel/adjustable base.
06:26 PM JT-Shop: yep it's a Hougen
06:27 PM JT-Shop: I'm industrial...
06:27 PM JT-Shop: base makes it a snap to line up to a punch mark
06:28 PM JT-Shop: 1/2" bolts are a bit scarce around here 5/8" even more... on I found has thread damage...
06:28 PM JT-Shop: time to call it a night
06:29 PM roguish[m]: a mag drill at a place I used to work at snapped the workers lower arm in half..... per rules, he was supposed to chain it down. he did no. the bit grabbed and the thing spun wildly and hit this arm. broke the arm badly. and he was the shop union steward. giggle, giggle.
06:30 PM roguish[m]: industrial accidents do happen.
06:32 PM roycroft: on a fiber install job i was managing a few years ago i watched the drilling crew foreman operate a core drill in a sidewalk without securing it properly
06:32 PM roycroft: the drill hit a piece of rebar, spun around, and broke his jaw
06:32 PM roguish[m]: yup
06:34 PM * roycroft has always had a lot of respect for the flesh-destroying power of machinery, and that is perhaps a major reason he's never been seriously injured on the job
06:35 PM roycroft: fivethirtyeight.com just wasted an entire podcast on the topic "why sarah palin lost", when the answer is three words - "because she's sarah palin"
06:36 PM roycroft: er four words
06:36 PM roycroft: anyway, i need to go rub out some tried and true varnish oil
06:38 PM roguish[m]: wow, down to 94 now. was up to 98.
06:40 PM roguish[m]: done for the day. ttfn
06:43 PM CloudEvil: https://i.imgur.com/8pXgfyG.jpeg
06:44 PM CloudEvil: Torque can do incredible things.
07:08 PM roycroft: 26 here right now
07:09 PM roycroft: we're going to have average temperatures for a few days, before it gets above average again
07:09 PM * roycroft is pleased with how his shelf turned out
07:09 PM roycroft: i need to make some speaker shelves now
07:35 PM XXCoder: CloudEvil: dang
07:54 PM XXCoder: roycroft: brothers make does wood https://youtu.be/8hFP47FgGuI
08:26 PM XXCoder: man I love joes
08:26 PM XXCoder: he explained how to tell that drilling into bore have reached the middle bore
08:26 PM XXCoder: just use long dowel, constantly move it while tap drilling into it
08:26 PM XXCoder: once you cant move it, it has reached center
