12:25 AM miss0r2: My dream pc is finally comming together: http://acmservice.dk/ppro.jpg :)
12:34 AM XXCoder: dual dual cpu eh heh
12:34 AM miss0r2: just dual. No dual core/ hyper thread on these pentium pros
12:34 AM miss0r2: :)
12:34 AM miss0r2: 512mb of ECC edo memory is now installed - not on the photo though. The VRM for the second CPU is in the mail
12:34 AM XXCoder: lol ok
03:05 AM randy: morning
03:26 AM pere: uhi
04:32 AM Deejay: moin
04:39 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:42 AM pere: weblate was just updated with the latest string changes.
04:50 AM sensille: can linuxcnc do skew correction?
04:54 AM pere: what is skew correction? I know it from clock skew, but no idea what it means in linuxcnc context.
04:56 AM sensille: when the x/y axes are not 100% square
04:58 AM pere: no idea, but given that joints and axis do not have to be parallel, as they are with robot arms, I suspect so.
05:24 AM Tom_L: morning
05:28 AM Tom_L: sensille, if it is possible it may fall under COMP_FILE http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/ini-config.html#_joint__lt_num_gt_section
05:29 AM Tom_L: only think i know of that would come close
05:54 AM JT-Cave: armhf download should work now\
06:11 AM sensille: COMP_FILE looks like it is only per joint
06:25 AM sensille: the 7i92M looks interesting to me. will it be available again in the near future?
06:25 AM JT-Cave: probably not any time soon
06:27 AM sensille: i could try to make the code runnable on a colorlight board
07:05 AM roscogamer[m]: oke so i have been trying to make probe-basic work only i cant seem to make it work
07:05 AM roscogamer[m]: it keeps giving the error
07:05 AM roscogamer[m]: cant execute display program probe-basix
07:05 AM roscogamer[m]: s/basix/basic/
07:06 AM roscogamer[m]: and then it shuts down
07:07 AM TurBoss: roscogamer: hello how are you installing probe-basic?
07:08 AM roscogamer[m]: https://kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/dev_install.html
07:09 AM roscogamer[m]: followed this guide
07:09 AM TurBoss[m]1: ok do you have probe_basic cloned in some directory?
07:09 AM roscogamer[m]: how do you mean
07:09 AM TurBoss[m]1: `git clone https://github.com/kcjengr/probe_basic.git`
07:09 AM roscogamer[m]: yea
07:10 AM TurBoss[m]1: got any error in step 6?
07:10 AM roscogamer[m]: downloads folder
07:10 AM roscogamer[m]: no
07:10 AM roscogamer[m]: all install fine
07:10 AM roscogamer[m]: can opein it in sumulation
07:10 AM TurBoss[m]1: 😮
07:11 AM TurBoss[m]1: is the `DISPLAY` var ok in your machine ini?
07:12 AM roscogamer[m]: and it worked before i transferd my axis config using a guild posted here
07:12 AM TurBoss[m]1: DISPLAY = probe_basic
07:12 AM TurBoss[m]1: try this
07:12 AM TurBoss[m]1: replace `-` with `_`
07:13 AM roscogamer[m]: i swear to god
07:13 AM roscogamer[m]: i thank you alot
07:13 AM TurBoss[m]1: works?
07:13 AM roscogamer[m]: tho this did make me waste like 5 evenings
07:13 AM roscogamer[m]: ye
07:13 AM roscogamer[m]: it works
07:13 AM TurBoss[m]1: :party
07:13 AM TurBoss[m]1: * 🥳
07:13 AM roscogamer[m]: tho the guide i followed said to use -
07:13 AM JT-Cave: hi TurBoss[m]1
07:14 AM TurBoss[m]1: ops let me fix
07:14 AM TurBoss[m]1: ah from the forums posts?
07:14 AM TurBoss[m]1: hello JT-Cave
07:24 AM roscogamer[m]: yea
07:24 AM roscogamer[m]: acctualy
07:24 AM roscogamer[m]: i aperently cant read
07:24 AM roscogamer[m]: hmm
07:24 AM roscogamer[m]: cus in the ini file you download from the forum it does use a _
07:34 AM SK[m]: Hello, how can I set a rotating around an axis to rotat the coordination system? I want to rotate 45 degrees around the y axis. Thx
07:43 AM JT-Shop: you can only rotate around the Z axis AFAIK
07:51 AM * SK[m] uploaded an image: (5561KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/mQgjvWntRolkTEbKoaTzYgpA/7118586C-276B-4C8C-BEAF-F2492E91821D.jpg >
07:51 AM SK[m]: I want to rotate my b axis and mill this in xyz
07:52 AM perry_j1987: https://www.ebay.com/itm/265319520784?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=265319520784&targetid=1493616693064&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9018889&poi=&campaignid=16182855274&mkgroupid=134484882218&rlsatarget=pla-1493616693064&abcId=9300819&merchantid=8358874&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjIKYBhC6ARIsAGEds-JLi1BrmFuT7wdt-oEsNLQZbtqAvQSZE9Py4drW5mTCCYbahN9aJz0aAkEKEALw_wcB 20k spindle
07:52 AM perry_j1987: in a very rigid looking little package
07:52 AM perry_j1987: ww collets though...
08:10 AM JT-Shop: perry_j1987, delete everything after the ? in links
08:29 AM Tom_L: tried andy's rpi bullseye iso yesterday
08:29 AM Tom_L: 2.9.0~pre0
08:31 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, both dl work now
08:57 AM roscogamer[m]: wait
08:57 AM roscogamer[m]: is lcnc 2.9 out?
08:59 AM roscogamer[m]: also my probebasic is giving me the error
08:59 AM roscogamer[m]: joint jog for undefined joint number -1 min 0max 3
09:00 AM roscogamer[m]: its also giving me a error for steptimeings
09:05 AM pere: roscogamer[m]: nope, 2.9 is not wrapped up yet.
09:05 AM roscogamer[m]: Awe
09:05 AM roscogamer[m]: Any sort of eta?
09:13 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, it failed before because I had not uploaded the armhf deb
09:14 AM pere: roscogamer[m]: I am not close enough to that decision to know.
09:28 AM perry_j1987: does tormach add to linuxcnc dev?
09:30 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, that's what i figured
09:32 AM JT-Shop: I need to make it check first to see if the file exists...
09:32 AM pere: perry_j1987: I am told <URL: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/581 > came from a tormach developer.
09:36 AM perry_j1987: interesting
09:36 AM perry_j1987: any other known companies you guys know about adding to linuxcnc commercially?
09:44 AM * pere have no idea
10:05 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, if you do, you'll have to remember that at a name change
10:05 AM Tom_L: or set them to the same constant to change together
10:06 AM Tom_L: in some old code i keep, i finally made an include file with all the constants to make it easier to keep track of them
10:20 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: That is more in the post than in linuxcnc. The post would send out a G0 B45 or equivalent to index the B axis. The it would output the appropriate XYZ gcode path.
10:21 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, it looks for the latest release so I never have to code in a file name
10:22 AM JT-Shop: might make it smarter and offer up any debs that are present
11:45 AM JT-Shop: first print since upgrading and it came out nice... time for a nap
11:46 AM perry_j1987: nice
11:46 AM perry_j1987: did you print a pikachu? lol
12:12 PM mrec: https://youtu.be/yBK1MN_Q9J0?t=93
12:13 PM mrec: does anyone know is something like that possible via g-code in linuxcnc?
12:13 PM mrec: G84 ... afterwards they pass multiple Z lines
12:13 PM mrec: and stop the canned cycle with g80
12:14 PM mrec: I have implemented g84.1 myself also with peck support; but I'm curious if I could add some Z coordinates after calling g84.1
12:15 PM Tom_L: only limited by your imagination and coding ability :)
12:16 PM Tom_L: maybe add a final depth and a divisor factor to divide the moves up
12:17 PM Tom_L: Z 1 R4 = .25 additional depth per pass as an example
12:17 PM mrec: I'm only intereste in that multi line argument .. if there's already a way for that
12:17 PM Tom_L: pick your alphabet carefully
12:17 PM Tom_L: not that i know of
12:18 PM Tom_L: if G84 is modal your cam could do that
12:18 PM mrec: G84.1 Z-10 E0.7 P2 R1 I have something like that right now
12:18 PM mrec: E - pitch, P - peck, R - retract height / fast move
12:19 PM mrec: Z how deep... I have modified freecad to output that.. it's all fine.
12:19 PM mrec: but as mentioned I'm interested in that multi line command "infrastructure"
12:20 PM Tom_L: that's the tap cycle for a snap holder right?
12:21 PM Tom_L: 'floating'
12:21 PM mrec: no in my case rigid tapping
12:21 PM Tom_L: not using G33.1?
12:21 PM mrec: I'm using a stepper motor (B) for the spindle
12:22 PM mrec: the spindle on the mill has no encoder here
12:22 PM Tom_L: ahh that's right
12:23 PM mrec: G84 parsing like on haas shouldn't be so difficult; I think I'll have a look at that
12:24 PM mrec: just pass the follow up lines into an array until it's cancelled by g80
12:44 PM mrec: I need to fix the xhc pendant ... everytime I'm in MDI mode I cannot jog
01:04 PM perry_j1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naDhtRbBYIM
01:08 PM mrec: too complicated I prefer freecad + techdraw
01:12 PM perry_j1987: i took two years of drafting like that in highschool
01:13 PM mrec: me kind of too I was pretty good with that but it takes too much time
01:13 PM mrec: we even did Autocad back then ... absolutely useless compared with what I know about freecad now
01:14 PM perry_j1987: teacher gave me a full size drafting desk at the end and bought me a portable drafting kit fully outfitted as a gift
01:14 PM perry_j1987: said I was his best drafting student he ever had
01:16 PM perry_j1987: i much perfer fusion 360 these days for sure though haha
01:17 PM mrec: freecad burns a lot time until you can really be productive with it
01:19 PM perry_j1987: i've never spent much time with it
01:19 PM mrec: it almost killed a project which I was working on for months my brain was burning when I touched freecad back then
01:20 PM mrec: at some point it took 30 minutes to load that project, after "exploding" and "sewing" the project it went down to around 20 seconds
01:21 PM mrec: and when it took 30 minutes I had to fix some issues in FreeCAD .. so update code, retry start for 30 minutes, modify again etc. it was frustrating.
01:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: preempt_rt latency for the 6.x kernel is even lower than 5.x, on Ryzen it's under 2uS for 25us base and 1mS servo thread
01:24 PM RoboticsNut1189[: FreeCAD if you use RealThunder's Link branch has gotten pretty good.
01:25 PM RoboticsNut1189[: modeled this with it:
01:25 PM * RoboticsNut1189[ uploaded an image: (2579KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/HSrbbBSApfGJZIcmnvBQTyKO/10D5E165-9506-4378-B06E-12957D50DB74.png >
01:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: looks like real CAD
01:30 PM mrec: can anyone recommend a small spindle for a lathe (for the crossslide)?
01:31 PM mrec: I don't really need realthunder's extensions
01:31 PM mrec: I'm fine with it but I need my path extensions :-)
01:32 PM mrec: https://snipboard.io/IV7xMh.jpg
01:32 PM mrec: I'm using a different base geometry menu, and I wiped out the original extension support
01:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: "small spindle for a lathe (for the crossslide)", a live spindle on the cross slide? Similar to a toolpost grinder setup?
01:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: for live tooling?
01:35 PM mrec: I want to drill some holes and possibly cut some gears directly on the lathe
01:35 PM mrec: the holes would be off-center
01:36 PM mrec: https://sundtek.de/support/jfbin6.mp4 <- updated base selection
01:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: how much room do you have and how much power do you want?
01:38 PM mrec: I guess around 200w should be okay .. for the size I might need to find another solution
01:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: look at the typical small mill spindles
01:38 PM mrec: https://i.snipboard.io/RrDbLp.jpg
01:38 PM mrec: I added that solid toolpost yesterday
01:38 PM mrec: I should get some flycutter to improve the surface..
01:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.amazon.com/Spindle-Cooled-Milling-Collet-Engraving/dp/B082XQP731
01:39 PM * JT-Shop goes for a chocolate covered waffle cone
01:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you need something low profile
01:40 PM mrec: I can still cut the block
01:40 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or a chuck that is belt driven with motor out of the way
01:40 PM mrec: I just did that block for a particular part which needs 2 drills (in the center)
01:41 PM mrec: https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB10TqeSXXXXXbHXVXXq6xXFXXXD/WM180V-Metal-Lathe-300mmx180mm-Lathe-Machine-with-all-iron-gears-600W-motor.jpg_.webp
01:41 PM mrec: that's the full lathe
01:42 PM mrec: pretty small
01:42 PM mrec: XY are motorized
01:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: do want to drill/cut in both axial and radial?
01:42 PM mrec: XZ*
01:43 PM mrec: radial I want to add some mounting screws
01:43 PM RoboticsNut1189[: i love the hand drafting video 🙂
01:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: what type collet do you wish?
01:44 PM mrec: CaptHindsight[m]: thanks for the small spindle hint I will have a look at it tomorrow
01:44 PM roycroft: https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/more-furniture-collectibles/collectibles-curiosities/scientific-instruments/antique-watchmakers-lathe-swiss-brass-copper-precision-instrument-circa-1900/id-f_22778172/
01:44 PM roycroft: now there's a small lathe
01:44 PM mrec: I have mostly ER20 here
01:44 PM roycroft: with a very big url
01:45 PM roycroft: https://tinyurl.com/2p8a4rmv
01:45 PM roycroft: that's a bit shorter
01:46 PM mrec: CNC is the only thing that makes machining interesting for me
01:46 PM mrec: although I like to watch those old machines
01:49 PM * CaptHindsight[m] uploaded an image: (33KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/okxbBpIboNwqtFWcNYquCkQR/ntu-20Aug2022-22.png >

01:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: that is the right one
01:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: I'd use a low profile ER-20 spindle and drive it with a belt
01:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: https://hsspindles.com/product/hsk-63f-er16-short-style-tool-holder-p-n-h30-c-s/ for example
02:01 PM mrec: this might be interesting
02:02 PM mrec: thanks!
02:02 PM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0861NCRFN/
02:02 PM perry_j1987: thoguht this was somewhat clever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNyrYMU_EhI use er32 straight shaft tool holder to make a spindle out of
02:02 PM roycroft: i use that with my wood lathe
02:03 PM roycroft: but i can get an mt2 to mt3 adapter if i want to use it on my metal lathe
02:03 PM mrec: I figured out making those MTB2 - ERX holders is not so difficult
02:03 PM mrec: G71 draw the profile and do some fine passes with G70
02:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: other low cost ideas might be a pancake through hole BLDC motor to drive a spindle directly
02:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.robotdigg.com/product/1841/HT100-BLDC-motor-with-22mm-hollow-shaft-pancake-motor
02:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: a belt and pulley will be almost as thick
02:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 29mm
02:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mrec: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001010807989.html
02:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: diameter 159.2* thickness 31mm
02:17 PM XXCoder: very cool, but wow expensive
02:18 PM XXCoder: capt I saw guy build dynimo using 3d printed parts and printed jigs to create wire modules
02:18 PM XXCoder: I bet similiar can be done for that
02:19 PM XXCoder: also picture shows metal cover, but video shows plastic cover
02:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: depends on how much power, speed and accuracy you want
02:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just examples
02:20 PM XXCoder: true, that
02:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you need to hire me to find actual part numbers :)
02:20 PM XXCoder: 500 is expensive for home hobby but shop that can be not enough for one tc endmill
02:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hobby lathe with live tooling won't be cheap
02:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: well decently made anyway
02:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not even going to mention and CNC glue gun parts
02:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and/any
02:24 PM XXCoder: cant find it :(
02:24 PM XXCoder: it was such fanastic project
02:25 PM XXCoder: guy 3d prints jigs to wind proper shaped coils and so on
02:26 PM XXCoder: not one I was talking about but similiar https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3324923
02:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 68F and rain today
02:31 PM XXCoder: sadly he never got around to completing that video series
02:32 PM XXCoder: part 1 to 3, out of 7 step in his thingverse objecy
02:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: would a <$1k 3d printer for metal be popular or do printers have to be <$300 for them to be really popular?
02:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: maybe they have to be on par with cnc mills
02:33 PM XXCoder: capt 1k metal printer? tht's a dream at this time.
02:34 PM XXCoder: it can be also "cast parts" creatir
02:34 PM XXCoder: print part plus paddings
02:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i can make one
02:34 PM XXCoder: then mill it to part
02:34 PM XXCoder: nice
02:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: a kiln is going to be roughly the price of a good toaster oven
02:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: binderjet or mSLA can make aluminum or copper parts pretty easily and low cost
02:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you'd print the resin + metal powder part and then sinter
02:38 PM XXCoder: ahh that's a l;ot easier than SLS
02:38 PM XXCoder: but does it leave microvoids or what
02:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the cost of an SLS laser is more than the cost of an entire printer for binderjet or mSLA
02:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: like desktop metal's printers
02:40 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the problem with casting steel is the heat required
02:40 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not easy and cheap at home
02:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: but a steel mold printer is also low cost
02:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'd have to make a much better version of this https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2018/06/you-too-can-convert-an-old-microwave-into-a-metal-melting-furnace/
02:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.machinedesign.com/materials/metals/article/21832014/microwave-steel
02:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I would upset lots of people if i do
02:45 PM XXCoder: thats sort of "so what" thing
02:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: binderjet will require a new ink cartridge for $30, for every print ~1L in volume
02:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or tradeoff a $300 head for hundreds of L of print
02:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: so the initial price of the printer is higher but long term costs are lower
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: obviously the capitalist will sell the $30 cartridge version
03:26 PM perry_j1987: hey guys
03:26 PM perry_j1987: got the extension ladder out and put the phone up in the rafters by a skylight heh
03:26 PM perry_j1987: hopefully i can get a bit more signal out here at the shop now haha
03:29 PM perry_j1987: i think i had a relay die on this parport breakout board
03:29 PM perry_j1987: spindle all of suddent didnt want to turn on today
03:29 PM perry_j1987: switched to one of the other relays and its working again
03:29 PM CaptHindsight[m]: when Clear was anew thing I place the wimax modem on the roof for better speeds
03:30 PM perry_j1987: i'd love to move to a new shop
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: my son called Clear for tech support and they were baffled by the "modem is 30 ft from the ground so i can't see the lights on the front"
03:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: look into a hotspot bridge, and mount it above the roof
03:34 PM perry_j1987: i just got my phone atm for it
03:34 PM perry_j1987: no separate device
03:34 PM perry_j1987: but i got a tall ladder lol
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 12 years ago we had moved into a shop where Comcast lied about service
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: imagine that
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: we were stuck with DSLand Wimax for a few years
03:36 PM perry_j1987: i really want to find a place where i can have shop and home in same space heh
03:37 PM perry_j1987: hmm i cannot get fusion 360 to build a tool that will generate paths for this threading tool
03:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: look for industrial space where they don't care
03:37 PM perry_j1987: snl tool holder gang tool threader
03:37 PM perry_j1987: er16 a60 threading insert in it
03:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: maybe you need the not crippled version of F350
03:43 PM perry_j1987: where's that? :P
03:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the paid version
03:47 PM perry_j1987: inventor?
03:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: guess so
03:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.autodesk.com/products/inventor-cam/overview?term=1-YEAR&tab=subscription
03:51 PM perry_j1987: i have startup license for fusion360
03:51 PM perry_j1987: i get more than the free version gets
03:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: is it more featured or just more online credits?
03:53 PM perry_j1987: from what i thought it had some more manufacturing stuff unlocked
03:53 PM perry_j1987: or something
03:53 PM perry_j1987: unlimited projects and such
03:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Paid version is the same as free version, as long as the product name is the same. The difference is between Fusion 360 Standard and Fusion 360 Ultimate. 03:55 PM perry_j1987: i havnt looked in a year or two at the differences
03:56 PM perry_j1987: they keep giving me another year and another year on this free license lol
03:56 PM perry_j1987: i dont complain to them about it haha
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: they must like you
04:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I wonder how much they look at your files and operations
04:01 PM perry_j1987: lol
04:01 PM perry_j1987: prob good for a good laugh around the cam department "omfg he tried to do it like that! bawhahahaha"
04:02 PM perry_j1987: and then they send an email to subscriptions dept and tell them to make sure to give this guy another year he's providing so much value to us ....comediacly lol
04:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i can't use F360 since all my stuff is under NDA's
04:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I don't use cloud or any shared apps or folders/files
04:03 PM perry_j1987: interesting
04:04 PM perry_j1987: what is it you do again. make custom cmyk printers or something?
04:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the workstations sit in metal cages without network connections
04:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: R&D electronics, mechanical, chemical
04:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and yes i can make custom printers
04:07 PM perry_j1987: Fun stuff
05:13 PM JT-Shop: the ender 3 just did bed leveling with the CR Touch probe before the print started!
05:19 PM XXCoder: nice
05:20 PM XXCoder: whats left is just adjusting live z
05:20 PM JT-Shop: live z?
05:20 PM XXCoder: not sure if ender 3 has it actually
05:20 PM XXCoder: basically its adjustment between probe and nozzle
05:20 PM JT-Shop: probe z offset
05:20 PM JT-Shop: done
05:21 PM XXCoder: ok thats great then :D
05:21 PM JT-Shop: it's printing and cura adds a G29 after G28 for auto bed level before each print
05:24 PM XXCoder: yeah similiar to prusa
05:24 PM XXCoder: difference being pinda and live z (different name, same concept)
05:27 PM JT-Shop: the print looks really nice for a change, gotta add a bit to retraction to eliminate the tiny string on a move
05:28 PM XXCoder: probably something like .05mm to .1mm
05:28 PM XXCoder: it doesnt take a lot
05:28 PM XXCoder: yeah ender 3 from what i saw with others comments takes a lot of work to work well
05:28 PM JT-Shop: it was 5 now it's 6 but not sure if it's being used yet
05:29 PM JT-Shop: just need some upgrades to make it consistent, really one z leadscrew is prone to issues
05:33 PM JT-Shop: hmm looking at a small gcode file I don't see where E is retracting before a move
05:44 PM Tom_L: too much alphabet for me
05:46 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:55 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder, are you using cura?
05:56 PM XXCoder: nope
06:03 PM JT-Shop: well I'll find out if today chess move blocks the coons or not
06:06 PM Tom_L: they'll come up with another strategy
06:06 PM JT-Shop: I'm working on checkmate tonight
06:07 PM JT-Shop: wife heard them on the deck last night and that's not allowed
06:08 PM perry_j1987: friends mom when we were growing up would put out canvas and spread paint all around for them to walk in
06:09 PM perry_j1987: she'd hang food up on a line so they would paint their paw prints all over lol
06:10 PM JT-Shop: if they (coons & possums) stay off the deck and out of the chicken yards I leave them alone... if not they die
06:10 PM Tom_L: i think jt is planning to paint a different picture
06:11 PM perry_j1987: lol
06:11 PM perry_j1987: ok quick question.
06:11 PM perry_j1987: i switch this lathe between qctp and gang tooling
06:12 PM perry_j1987: is there a way i could toggle it asking for tool changes manual and automated ?
06:12 PM perry_j1987: i remember a while back i was just editing the config file for it not to ask but i forgot how i did that
06:12 PM JT-Shop: use two different configs
06:12 PM perry_j1987: im now tired of pressing buttons
06:12 PM perry_j1987: ah thats a good idea
06:12 PM Tom_L: i've got 2 configs for when i use my A axis
06:13 PM Tom_L: other than that they are the same
06:13 PM perry_j1987: duplicate the folder?
06:14 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside to cook some brats
06:14 PM perry_j1987: or you made diff configs within the same fold
06:14 PM JT-Shop: just make two configs
06:14 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, did you see pere's comment about building an armhf iso?
06:14 PM JT-Shop: no
06:14 PM Tom_L: <pere> Tom_L: did not look at it. suspect it is a simple --arch armhf or similar
06:14 PM Tom_L: he makes it sound so damn easy
06:15 PM JT-Shop: yep
06:15 PM JT-Shop: sounds like a car salesman
06:15 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure where you would add that switch
06:15 PM JT-Shop: prob in the configure file
06:15 PM Tom_L: i suppose it would seem easy for someone that codes on that level every day
06:16 PM Tom_L: then add the 64bit to the mix
06:16 PM Tom_L: i loaded that one andy had a link to
06:16 PM JT-Shop: is your pi 64 bit?
06:17 PM Tom_L: i've no idea.. how do i know?
06:17 PM Tom_L: it loaded that img ok
06:17 PM JT-Shop: dunno
06:17 PM Tom_L: that's more an os thing isn't it?
06:17 PM JT-Shop: yea
06:18 PM * JT-Shop goes to boil some brats then grill them
06:18 PM perry_j1987: ah i had a save of the changes i made in hal
06:18 PM JT-Shop: but first Donald Fagen I.G.Y.
06:18 PM perry_j1987: im up and going automated! heh ty
06:19 PM Tom_L: dunno that one
06:19 PM JT-Shop: it's good
06:19 PM perry_j1987: oh it does do one anoying thing i cant figure out
06:19 PM perry_j1987: this one tool it pauses the program when it switches to it
06:19 PM perry_j1987: my number 1 tool /parting off
06:20 PM perry_j1987: i havnt figured out why it does that looked all through fusion360 tool table no idea
06:21 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, Donald Fagen is Steely Dan lead singer
06:21 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop,
06:21 PM Tom_L: ahve a look at /config/bootstrap
06:21 PM JT-Shop: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Fagen
06:21 PM Tom_L: ahh
06:22 PM Tom_L: mmm that may be more the os than the target
06:24 PM JT-Shop: Donald Fagen the album The Nightfly is great
06:24 PM JT-Shop: say goodnight Gracie
06:31 PM perry_j1987: ah there was an M0 on that tool
06:31 PM perry_j1987: it got set as wrong turret/tool post thing in fusion
06:31 PM Tom_L: garbage in... garbage out
06:33 PM perry_j1987: im gettin there slowly but surely heh
06:33 PM Tom_L: took me a while to get my cad post where i wanted it but once you do, you gain more confidence in it
06:34 PM perry_j1987: ya
06:34 PM perry_j1987: i have to manually add g64 p0.01 to the linuxcnc post processor every time
06:34 PM perry_j1987: and also go through and find replace M6 with M6 G43
06:34 PM Tom_L: i put up with that sort of thing for a while but finally got tired of doing it
06:35 PM perry_j1987: its tedious
06:35 PM perry_j1987: trying to get these threads to fit again
06:35 PM Tom_L: my cad cam is very old but it does allow you to customize the post just about any way you want
06:36 PM perry_j1987: shut down linuxcnc and restarted to do that config change rehomed the machine and now these threads that were fitting beauitifully before dont now
07:25 PM perry_j1987: big rain coming through right now
07:53 PM _unreal_: so I just got an ET51CE for $20 at the swapshop. the seller had two but I could only get one to turn on. so only got one :/
07:54 PM _unreal_: I had to "jail break it" which just means I had to go to the MFG web site and download a "reset" image, load it reboot and load the "image" and it factory reset it.
07:54 PM _unreal_: wish I could upgrade the android OS on it... but what ever
07:54 PM _unreal_: the MFG requires $ to upgrade to android 11
07:56 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/software/operating-system/et51-gms-operating-system.html
07:57 PM _unreal_: lol Tom_L "try" to download the latest version for the ET51
07:57 PM Tom_L: no, i don't have one
08:01 PM Tom_L: i've got 12 on my phone
08:02 PM chumblkjslkj is now known as _unreal_
08:03 PM _unreal_: wtf that was annoying
08:03 PM Tom_L: so stop it!
08:03 PM _unreal_: the house internet went out again
08:03 PM * Tom_L checks...
08:03 PM Tom_L: no it's fine
08:03 PM _unreal_: MINE
08:04 PM Tom_L: :)
08:04 PM _unreal_: ass
08:04 PM Tom_L: i got 12 on my phone
08:04 PM _unreal_: so ya I got this POS/tablet. the software before I broke it was. a walmart POS
08:04 PM Tom_L: why the need to update it?
08:04 PM _unreal_: dont know if it was stolen or not but regardless mine now :)
08:05 PM _unreal_: its runing android 8
08:05 PM _unreal_: but has a snapdraggon 660
08:05 PM Tom_L: that's ancient
08:05 PM _unreal_: it supports upto android 11 but I cant download the file.
08:05 PM _unreal_: its behind a pay wall
08:05 PM Tom_L: pay the wall
08:06 PM _unreal_: dont have any money at the moment.
08:06 PM _unreal_: though THAT may change in the next few weeks with mys tocks
08:06 PM _unreal_: stocks
08:06 PM * Tom_L gives _unreal_ a cardboard sign
08:06 PM _unreal_: next few weeks starting monday may be WILD
08:07 PM * Tom_L can't remember how many times he's heard that
08:07 PM _unreal_: hay I'm a blue-collar income maker. just have a lot going out currently :(
08:08 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna venture a guess that if you were white collar you wouldn't be hanging out here
08:08 PM Tom_L: not that they're not welcome..
08:08 PM _unreal_: err not blue middle class
08:09 PM _unreal_: with over time I could make $80k a year
08:09 PM _unreal_: thats not including th crazy stuff I get from the yachts
08:09 PM _unreal_: hell my latest finds
08:10 PM _unreal_: I got a spinnaker sail, and a JIB. in good/great condition. going to sell them if I can
08:10 PM Tom_L: hope they're not branded with somebody's logo
08:11 PM _unreal_: nope
08:11 PM _unreal_: I have photos
08:11 PM _unreal_: freaking HUGE
08:14 PM _unreal_: so getting back to this tablet
08:14 PM _unreal_: it comes with a power supply a special stand and shell
08:14 PM _unreal_: very robust
08:14 PM _unreal_: I had to take out the tablet to hack it.
08:15 PM _unreal_: even the tablet is robust. it has an expansion port on it for things like barcode scanners and many other devices.
08:15 PM _unreal_: dont have any wish I did. but I dont know what I'll use it for
08:15 PM _unreal_: "if" I ESCAPE this house soon if my stocks do payout. I'm thinking it will turn into a kitchen device
08:16 PM _unreal_: wish it was a windows one but what ever
08:16 PM _unreal_: if it was a windows one. I would use it for my laser etcher
08:17 PM _unreal_: would be amazing to have a tablet on a spring/hinged arm. be able to swing it out and do what I got to do. and then hit go and walk away
08:17 PM _unreal_: :)
08:17 PM _unreal_: rather then have a laptop
08:18 PM _unreal_: only one USB-c port on it, and an internal slot for microSD.
08:19 PM _unreal_: ???? disconnected again? wtf I'm connected to my phone
08:19 PM XXCoder: not disconnected
08:19 PM XXCoder: its that mean peer
08:20 PM _unreal_: ?
08:20 PM * _unreal_ confused
08:20 PM XXCoder: <-- _unreal_ has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
08:20 PM _unreal_: odd
08:20 PM _unreal_: hum 9:20 need to make din
08:21 PM _unreal_: make din, make mixed drink
08:21 PM Tom_L: droid is watching you
08:21 PM Tom_L: pay the wall
08:21 PM _unreal_: likely
08:21 PM _unreal_: god. i'd laugh if I made 10-80 $ million in the next few weeks off these stocks
08:21 PM _unreal_: hehe
08:21 PM _unreal_: dont know what I would do
08:33 PM _unreal_: made a martini
08:33 PM _unreal_: shaken not stired
08:33 PM _unreal_: using my martini shaker electric
08:34 PM _unreal_: arg
08:34 PM _unreal_: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/DHgAAOSwFE5fk0Lc/s-l300.jpg
08:34 PM _unreal_: I have one of those
08:37 PM roycroft: i just learned something that is interesting, at least to me
08:37 PM roycroft: i'm watching dave stanton, and he's doing a project with "recycled oregon wood"
08:37 PM roycroft: i wondered what he was talking about, and he eventually explained
08:37 PM roycroft: "oregon wood" is the australian term for hemlock
08:37 PM roycroft: apparently a lot of oregon hemlock is exported to australia
08:38 PM _unreal_: at list its just across the puddle
08:38 PM roycroft: if i heard the term "oregon wood" i'd assume it was referring to douglas fir
08:38 PM roycroft: across the biggest puddle in the world
08:39 PM acer: ugh
08:39 PM acer: disconnected again WTF
08:39 PM XXCoder: not disconnected. reset by peer
08:39 PM roycroft: dave is also doing some resawing right now using the same bow product featherboard that i recently got, and that jt just got
08:39 PM acer: well that peer is queer
08:40 PM XXCoder: dunno, wouldnt assume any preferences lol
08:40 PM roycroft: so today was interesting
08:40 PM XXCoder: roy nice.
08:40 PM roycroft: i was supposed to pack up the fair booth for the winter today
08:40 PM XXCoder: i saw blondihack have uploaded, but havent watched yet
08:41 PM roycroft: and do an inspection of the building at the winery where we're doing our election work
08:41 PM roycroft: the winery guy never showed up, and then it started raining, so i went home
08:41 PM roycroft: which is fine - i still have time to deal with the booth
08:41 PM roycroft: but it stopped raining shortly after i got home, so i ended up finishing the counter top for my cabinets
08:41 PM roycroft: and just put some tried and true varnish oil on it
08:42 PM roycroft: so that can dry while i'm on my camping trip, and i should be able to install it the end of the week
08:42 PM roycroft: i was figuring that job would not be done until mid-september, so this is awesome
08:44 PM XXCoder: nice
08:44 PM XXCoder: soon, cnc
08:45 PM roycroft: yeah, when the cabinet job is done i need to make a jig, and then i'll start on the cnc router
08:45 PM roycroft: and i am already back to doing cad work for the cnc router
08:46 PM roycroft: so maybe i'll be able to have some on-topic discussion items soon :)
08:48 PM XXCoder: :)
08:48 PM roycroft: i think i actually have had some on-topic discussions of late
09:01 PM XXCoder: yeah
09:13 PM pere: Tom_L: I expected live build to be able to use qemu-debootstrap --arch armhf, which make it trivial to cross-build a foreign architecture chroot, but fail to find any recipes.
09:14 PM pere: Tom_L: asking the debian live developers now on their #debian-live channel, hope they can confirm that it work.
09:16 PM roycroft: xxcoder: abom actually posted a machining video yesterday
09:17 PM XXCoder: yeah a lenth of precision rod
09:20 PM roycroft: folks ask here about insert tooling for lathes fairly often
09:20 PM roycroft: i would refer them to abom's channel
09:20 PM XXCoder: definitely pretty heavy focus on lathe
09:20 PM XXCoder: lot of tooling for lathe discussion on last video
09:20 PM roycroft: he does us a lot of insert tooling, and appears to know quite a bit about insert geometry and what works and what doesn't
09:21 PM pere: Tom_L: checking the code and documentation, make me suspect --bootstrap-qemu-arch ARCH is the option we are looking for.
09:21 PM roycroft: yeah, when he's doing machining videos, i'd say they're about 60% lathe, 30% milling, and the remaing 10% welding/tapping/other operations
09:27 PM XXCoder: sounds right roy
09:39 PM roycroft: if i were told that 1. i must make my living operating a machining job shop, and 2. i could only have one machine, i would get a really good lathe
09:39 PM roycroft: there's no question that a lathe would be the one machine
09:39 PM XXCoder: shop I used to work at had what around 13? 14? lathes
09:40 PM XXCoder: last time I was there anyway. heard they added 2 more expensive swiss lathes
09:40 PM XXCoder: one thats pretty small diameter but it can do everything including transferring part from collet to other
09:40 PM XXCoder: to cut other side
11:10 PM * thorhian[m]1 uploaded an image: (2764KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/wplwtfHvFuHDZyKddaRZkADO/ima_120ff1c.gif >
11:10 PM thorhian[m]1: I’ve managed to make GPU shaders perform simulated 2D cutting simulations
11:14 PM thorhian[m]1: The compute shader that determines how much stock material is removed from a given theoretical cut works pretty good so far. Next step is to actually start working on the path finding algorithm that only takes cuts within a given range of cutter engagement (measured using that wonderful compute shader).
11:15 PM thorhian[m]1: I plan on integrating with FreeCAD eventually, but it might be cool if anyone wanted to use it as an add on for LCNC, but it might be a bit too heavy for that.
