02:01 AM Deejay: moin
04:37 AM Tom_L: morning
04:52 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:51 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, did you install mesact on the Rpi?
07:12 AM Tom_L: yes
07:28 AM JT-Cave: what OS are you using?
07:36 AM JT-Cave: just pushed mesact 0.7.1
07:38 AM JT-Cave: looks like I pushed an error :(
07:42 AM Tom_L: buster i think
07:43 AM Tom_L: i'll check in when i get back later today
07:43 AM Tom_L: i'm off..
10:04 AM JT-Shop: when I select bed leveling the probe moves off the left side of the build plate for the first probe... wonder what's up? grooble is not much help'
10:05 AM roycroft: my printer homes the x and y off the edge of the build plate
10:06 AM roycroft: it never tries to print off the edge, though
10:07 AM perry_j1987: in your configs there will be some location to enter in your probe points
10:07 AM roycroft: i assume there are soft limits in the firmware that know where the build plate is
10:07 AM JT-Shop: not the print head but the cr touch sensor
10:07 AM JT-Shop: it's left of the print head
10:07 AM perry_j1987: there is an offset specified for the sensor?
10:08 AM JT-Shop: I've not set one...
10:08 AM JT-Shop: maybe that's the issue
10:08 AM perry_j1987: ah ya in your probe configs be it marlin or whatever there's a spot to specify the offset in x/y/z from your print head
10:08 AM perry_j1987: and also should be a probe points area where you can specify a grid pattern or 3 points or 4 points or whatever
10:10 AM JT-Shop: I only see the z offset and yes the ender is marlin
10:11 AM roycroft: my left display is not working
10:11 AM roycroft: it says there is no signal
10:11 AM * roycroft hopes it's just a cable issue - a new display would be expensive, and a new computer way more expensive
10:12 AM JT-Shop: hmm I only have the .bin file and not the .ino file
10:13 AM JT-Shop: https://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M851.html
10:16 AM perry_j1987: bin is an outut file
10:16 AM perry_j1987: .ino is similar to .stepconf files
10:16 AM perry_j1987: .ino is what arduino uses to load up your sketch
10:19 AM JT-Shop: I have a box full of arduino's
10:19 AM perry_j1987: you're doing this right? https://www.crealityexperts.com/installing-bltouch-ender-3
10:20 AM perry_j1987: looks like their bl touch firmware has the offsets baked in for that bracket provided
10:20 AM JT-Shop: nothing in there about XY offset
10:20 AM JT-Shop: I have the cr touch
10:22 AM JT-Shop: hmm I might have the wrong firmware, I just found one for CR-Touch
10:23 AM JT-Shop: hmm no that's the firmware I have
10:23 AM roycroft: how weird - a reboot brought the display back
10:23 AM roycroft: what main board did you get for your printer, jt-shop?
10:24 AM * roycroft is thinking that now might be a good time to do some upgrades on his printer
10:24 AM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08G4MYYVL
10:24 AM roycroft: i like the idea of the filament out sensor, and an autoleveling probe might be useful
10:25 AM roycroft: although my printer bed stays pretty level, once i dial it in
10:25 AM perry_j1987: i like z level beds with probes
10:26 AM perry_j1987: where it physically re-levels the bed after probing
10:26 AM perry_j1987: 3 point steppers/leadscrew assemblies etc
10:26 AM roycroft: i've made what must be over 1000 prints by now, and i've leveled the bed maybe 3-4 times since i first set it up
10:27 AM roycroft: one of those times was when i installed the volcano hot end
10:29 AM roycroft: that board is designed for the ender 3, but can be flashed with ender 5 firmware
10:29 AM roycroft: creality have an ender 5 silent mainboard, but it's a lot more expensive
10:29 AM * roycroft will have to compare the two to get that sorted
10:30 AM roycroft: oh, the super expensive one is for the ender 5 plus
10:30 AM JT-Shop: Send: M851
10:30 AM JT-Shop: Recv: Probe Offset X-30.00 Y0.00 Z0.00
10:31 AM JT-Shop: so I have an X offset but maybe not enough
10:48 AM JT-Shop: lunch time
11:23 AM roycroft: it seems a lot of folks like the btt skr mini boards for their ender printers
11:37 AM roycroft: it also seems like folks are big on installing color touch screens on their ender printers when they upgrade the main board
11:37 AM roycroft: i don't think that would matter at all to me, as i rarely use the printer's user interface - i do almost everything with octopi
12:21 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, got a new version for me to try?
01:38 PM JT-Shop: yep
01:38 PM * JT-Shop goes to fill up the BlueWing
03:01 PM * JT-Shop needs a breeze to finish up the skirt on the garden shed/chicken coop
03:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OBiqeqKDsk
03:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://github.com/multigcs/viaconstructor
03:17 PM roycroft: here in oregon we have to pay a $2 environmental cleanup charge on all paint products
03:18 PM roycroft: i don't mind that - so many people landfill their used paint or otherwise dispose of it improperly, and it costs money to detoxify the mess they make
03:18 PM roycroft: even though i'm careful about how i handle my stuff, it's inherently messy and a small fee to help clean up doesn't bother me, for the most part
03:19 PM roycroft: but today i went to get some touch-up pens - they are basically sharpies with wood-tone dyes, and i got dinged the $2 fee for each pen
03:19 PM roycroft: that seems a bit excessive
03:19 PM roycroft: i should think there would be a minimum quantity that is subject to the surcharge
03:20 PM roycroft: or at least a sliding scale, so that pens and tiny touch-up cans would be like 50 cents, and 5 gallon buckets would be $10
03:24 PM Tom_L: harder to find a pen in a haystack (dump) than a bucket
03:24 PM Tom_L: or maybe they do it cause they can
03:26 PM Rab: I guess the inverse case is that here, you can drop off a lead-acid car battery at AutoZone and get $10. You can trade in as many batteries as you like. And in fact they don't differentiate between lead-acid batteries: you can bring in a tiny security system gel-cell and still get $10.
03:26 PM Rab: I haven't done it in several years, so I wouldn't be surprised if the program is over...it seems ripe for abuse.
03:27 PM roycroft: we get charged a core charge on lead acid batteries in oregon, but don't get it refunded unless a core is returned directly to the merchangt
03:27 PM roycroft: we can drop off as many batteries as we want for no charge
03:28 PM roycroft: they probably have the flat fee because it's easier to administer, on the paint products
03:28 PM roycroft: and i don't fault them for that, but if that's how it's done, tiny amounts really should be exempt
03:29 PM roycroft: i mean, i can go to an art supply store and buy a tube of artist's oil paint that contains probably 50x the toxins that my touch up pen does, and not pay an environment fee
03:30 PM roycroft: unless i want to spend 50 times as much to buy natural pigments suspended in walnut oil at the art supply store, then there's virtually no toxins
03:31 PM perry_j1987: there we go got lathe all cleaned up after that 1400 piece run
03:33 PM JT-Shop: here in Missouri they buy back any batteries you have
03:33 PM roycroft: that makes more sense
03:34 PM roycroft: we're leaders in passing environmental protection legislation here in oregon
03:34 PM roycroft: but that doesn't mean we write the best legislation
03:34 PM roycroft: we do a lot of pretty silly things
03:35 PM roycroft: but whenever i get frustrated with our laws, all i have to do is look down to calfornia, and i feel better immediately
03:36 PM roycroft: but the best thing we ever did for the environment was back in the '70s
03:37 PM roycroft: we made our entire shoreline, from the washington border to the california border, public land up to the high tide line
03:37 PM roycroft: there are beach front hotels and the like
03:38 PM roycroft: but there are no private beaches anywhere in the state
03:38 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i'll give that a go after a couple errands
03:45 PM JT-Shop: ok
03:45 PM JT-Shop: let me know what os your running on the pi
03:49 PM roycroft: did you get a flexible build plate for your printer, jt-shop?
04:06 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HNWSMXY
04:06 PM JT-Shop: wtf not a drop of rain and I lose internet
04:10 PM roycroft: my printer came with that, and i had adhesion problems with it
04:10 PM roycroft: i got a tempered glass build plate and it's worked much better since then
04:10 PM roycroft: there are some thin steel ones that supposedly work well, but they're expensive
04:11 PM roycroft: i probably don't need anything better than the tempered glass plate at this point - the only drawback to it was that it was hard to remove a print until it cooled off a bit
04:12 PM roycroft: but i'm pretty much done with "production" printing now, so that's not really a big deal
04:12 PM XXCoder: its why I love my prusa sheets
04:12 PM XXCoder: let it cool and literally take print off like it was just placed there
04:13 PM roycroft: the thin metal ones i mentioned a moment ago can be removed as soon as the print is done, flexed, and the print is supposed to just pop off
04:13 PM JT-Shop: https://www.prusa3d.com/product/spring-steel-sheet-with-smooth-double-sided-pei/
04:14 PM roycroft: and if one gets two of them one can just swap them back and forth
04:14 PM XXCoder: jt I prefer textured more but yeah
04:14 PM XXCoder: smooth it sticks bit more and you sometimes need to flex
04:14 PM roycroft: i use a little unscented hair spray on my build plate occasinally
04:14 PM roycroft: but a small spray lasts a long time
04:15 PM roycroft: so what i wonder is how does resuming a print work if one changes filament
04:15 PM roycroft: ?
04:15 PM roycroft: you get a filament out sensor, and that's fine
04:16 PM roycroft: but then you have to swap in new filament to resume
04:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you don't like the scented versions?
04:16 PM XXCoder: in my machine it just pauses and displays "need change filament" press, it gets rid of remaining filament
04:16 PM roycroft: usually when i swap filament i pull the old filament out, and shove the new stuff in
04:16 PM XXCoder: then you insert it and press and it will purge till you say its good then it resumes
04:16 PM roycroft: but i have to squirt a little out of the hot end to know i advanced it enough
04:16 PM roycroft: if you paus a print does the print head move off to the side so you can do that?
04:17 PM XXCoder: pause it does move to side but filament out has very different action steps
04:17 PM XXCoder: prusa firmware anyway
04:18 PM roycroft: if i get a new main board for my printer it will handle a filament out sensor, and i'll want to add that
04:18 PM XXCoder: its great also
04:18 PM XXCoder: you can do special filament shorts run also
04:18 PM XXCoder: get a model you fancy and just feed machine shorts till youre out
04:19 PM XXCoder: you can even delibrately make shorts for certain look
04:19 PM roycroft: rainbow prints
04:20 PM XXCoder: exactly
04:21 PM XXCoder: now, there is color changing filaments but tend to change too slowly

04:55 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:57 PM JT-Shop: also improving the preference saving and reading
04:57 PM Tom_L: any hal work?
04:57 PM JT-Shop: oh and if you select/deselect a nag the conif file gets updated at once
04:57 PM JT-Shop: no
04:58 PM Tom_L: k
04:58 PM Tom_L: you want the arm deb yet?
04:58 PM JT-Shop: got 2 or 3 things in process but unfinished
04:58 PM JT-Shop: yep, I'll get it in the am
04:58 PM Tom_L: it will be there
04:58 PM JT-Shop: k
04:59 PM Tom_L: looks like it's close to done building
04:59 PM roycroft: i am on vacation in less than a minute
05:02 PM Tom_L: k, it's posted
05:02 PM roycroft: i've been having trouble selling my old band saw - it seems there's a glut of 14" band saws for sale these days
05:02 PM JT-Shop: thanks
05:03 PM Tom_L: i'll test in a bit and let you know if there's an issue with it
05:03 PM roycroft: but i just had the brilliant idea that if i toss a 3 phase motor in it, i can slow it way down, move it out to my fabrication shop, and use it as a vertical metal band saw
05:04 PM roycroft: i don't think that having rubber tires will be a big issue, as i probably won't use it all that often
05:04 PM JT-Shop: can't just change the drive pulley?
05:05 PM roycroft: i'd have to slow it down by a factor or 10 or so
05:05 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/7x12-bandsaw/
05:05 PM roycroft: that would require a ginormous pulley on the machine
05:05 PM JT-Shop: 7x12 I converted to vertical
05:06 PM Tom_rpi: looks like it runs ok
05:06 PM JT-Shop: dang how fast does it run?
05:06 PM Tom_rpi: just ok
05:06 PM JT-Shop: I use the vertical a lot
05:06 PM roycroft: 2500 ft/min or so
05:06 PM JT-Shop: my wood bandsaw you can change belt locations for metal
05:06 PM Tom_rpi: faster than me
05:07 PM roycroft: yeah, but not for ferrous metal
05:07 PM Tom_rpi: the linuxcnc version is new?
05:07 PM Tom_rpi: also shows mesaflash version
05:07 PM roycroft: i could do it with pulleys, but i'd have to install a jack shaft and do the step-down in two stages
05:07 PM roycroft: it's easier to just install a 3 phase motor and a vfd
05:08 PM roycroft: anyway, i'm going to go scope that out as a possible easy project
05:08 PM JT-Shop: 2500 ft/min in 10 times faster than my saw
05:08 PM roycroft: and at the very least, pretend it's going to work, and move it out to the fabrication shop so i have a little more room in my main shop
05:08 PM Tom_rpi: error dl armf deb
05:09 PM Tom_rpi: line 649 request.py
05:09 PM XXCoder: more and more slicers is supporting STEP format. finally.
05:09 PM XXCoder: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/763323422746345472/1010309463892316312/unknown.png
05:09 PM XXCoder: difference between imported step and stp
05:09 PM Tom_rpi: unless you deleted the old version
05:09 PM XXCoder: *stl
05:10 PM JT-Shop: Tom_rpi, what did you do to get the error?
05:10 PM Tom_rpi: tried to dl the armf deb
05:10 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:10 PM roycroft: it's actually even worse
05:10 PM roycroft: it's 3300fpm
05:10 PM roycroft: and that's with a 1720rpm motor
05:10 PM roycroft: i might have trouble running it slow enough with a vfd even
05:11 PM roycroft: unless i swap the pulleys as well
05:11 PM Tom_rpi: T-Shop, you mustuv deleted the 0.7.0 version
05:12 PM Tom_rpi: damn kbd
05:12 PM roycroft: i don't think i can make the motor pulley any smaller - iirc it's already really small
05:12 PM Tom_rpi: excessive belt wear
05:12 PM roycroft: i could make the machine pulley somewhat larger, but certainly not even twice as large
05:13 PM roycroft: i'll have to go do some measuring
05:13 PM JT-Shop: my rikon is 1500/3000
05:13 PM roycroft: perhaps an intermediate shaft with a pair of pulleys is what i'll need
05:13 PM roycroft: that sounds about right
05:13 PM roycroft: and you can cut brass at 1500fpm
05:13 PM roycroft: but for steel i think you'd want 250rpm at most
05:14 PM Tom_rpi: i'll check the dl once you get the new deb
05:14 PM roycroft: and 175fpm woul dbe better
05:15 PM JT-Shop: yep my wilton is 82-235 FPM
05:15 PM Tom_L: i'll check in in the AM
05:16 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: are you aware of Andys Rpi deb for LCNC 2.8?
05:16 PM JT-Shop: I leave my wilton at 170 FPM
05:16 PM Tom_L: no
05:17 PM Tom_L: i'm running 2.9.0~pre on it i think anyway
05:17 PM JT-Shop: I see someone is working on a patch for 2.8 to run the 7i96s
05:17 PM Tom_L: 2.8.3 should have it
05:17 PM JT-Shop: nope
05:18 PM Tom_L: i think hostmot2 got pushed to it
05:18 PM Tom_L: i thought
05:18 PM Tom_L: huh
05:18 PM JT-Shop: I tested yesterday and 2.8.3 doesn't know what a 7i96s is

06:05 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:05 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], that link doesn't seem to work
06:05 PM perry_j1987: gah im so anoyed with lack of internet at the shop
06:05 PM perry_j1987: just wasted so many hours doing odds and ends waiting for cad models to load finally gave up heh
06:07 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], pere was asking if there was any additional platform requests for the iso build
06:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: you have to go direct to the forum page and use that link
06:08 PM Tom_L: k
06:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: they could try arm64
06:10 PM Tom_L: what is andy's?
06:11 PM XXCoder: weird. Atlas moth was found in usa
06:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: was andy's link to https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vgj2rMgG_gdNWx_5OKJco115P56dgIx4/view?usp=sharing
06:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: built by elovalvo
06:11 PM Tom_L: yeah i got that but haven't looked at it yet
06:12 PM Tom_L: making sure the link got logged
06:22 PM samer: Hi
06:23 PM Tom_L: hI
06:23 PM samer: i have same problem

06:24 PM Tom_L: no it won't
06:24 PM samer: need link plz
06:24 PM Tom_L: link for what?
06:25 PM samer: for the new version2.9 plz
06:25 PM Tom_L: for what?
06:25 PM Tom_L: armf amd64 ....
06:26 PM Tom_L: stretch, buster, bullseye.... what linux version?
06:27 PM Tom_L: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/buster/
06:27 PM Tom_L: or
06:27 PM Tom_L: https://www.gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/index.html
06:29 PM samer: i have actually linuxcnc wheezy RTAI
06:30 PM samer: i upgrated from 2.7 to 2.8
06:30 PM samer: my7i96s still not working
06:37 PM Tom_L: wheezy is RTAI. for ethernet cards you need to run a preempt-rt os
06:37 PM Tom_L: you will need to do some upgrading
06:38 PM Tom_L: and if the motherboard is old, it may be too slow for preempt-rt
06:38 PM Tom_L: i'm running wheezy on my mill but not with ethernet
06:41 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], trying that zip
06:43 PM Tom_L: menu is all screwed up
06:44 PM Tom_L: lcnc & docs are in Acessories as well as CNC
06:45 PM Tom_L: debian 11.2
06:45 PM samer: THANKS A LOT +Tom_L
06:45 PM samer: I will try it
06:47 PM Tom_L: be sure to do a latency test when making changes
06:47 PM samer: okk
06:47 PM Tom_L: it's not near as critical with mesa cards but should still be run

10:31 PM Synthead: Hey all! I'm writing a little gcode parser, and I have this line:
10:31 PM Synthead: G17 G64 P0.001 M3 S3000
10:32 PM Synthead: in all the documentation I'm reading, G17 doesn't mention following up with G64
10:32 PM Synthead: what is going on here?
10:32 PM Synthead: https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode/g-code.html#gcode:g17-g19.1
10:32 PM XXCoder: plane select, path blending
10:32 PM XXCoder: I dont know those 2 unfortunately
10:33 PM Synthead: is it typical for multiple G codes to be on one line?
10:34 PM Synthead: G17 is described as "XY plane selection", and G64 is " Default cutting mode (cancel exact stop check mode)" according to wikipedia
10:34 PM Tom_L: G17 is the default x y plane
10:35 PM Synthead: is passing two G codes unique to G17?
10:35 PM roycroft: no
10:35 PM roycroft: multiple gcodes can be on the same line
10:36 PM Synthead: is G17 G64 P0.001 M3 S3000 the same as:
10:36 PM Synthead: G17
10:36 PM Synthead: G64 P0.001 M3 S3000
10:36 PM Synthead: ?
10:36 PM Tom_L: P is the blend tolerance
10:37 PM Tom_L: m3 turns on the spindle cw @ 3000rpm
10:37 PM Synthead: is there a section of documentation I can read about multiple g codes on one line?
10:38 PM Tom_L: just about any gcode reference
10:39 PM Synthead: I can't find this written on https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode/g-code.html#cha:g-codes
