02:52 PM Tom_L: and of course the logger didn't get any of this
03:07 PM JT-Shop: should be the same from a dvd install
03:11 PM Tom_L: well crap, that image doens't wanna boot
03:12 PM Tom_L: i'll use my old 9 dvd and see how it goes
03:12 PM JT-Shop: ok
03:22 PM Tom_L: mate won't be preselected
03:22 PM JT-Shop: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/398423/how-to-switch-desktop-environment-in-debian
03:22 PM Tom_L: i read something about when you log in
03:22 PM Tom_L: a gear or something you click on
03:24 PM Tom_L: i may grab a couple micro sd when we go to finish for today
03:24 PM perry_j1987: wow this mini lathe apparently is 1mm off in 6 inches on x
03:25 PM perry_j1987: gah i really need new machines
03:27 PM JT-Shop: a buddy had a 12' long lathe and he would have to twiddle with the x all the way down to keep the part straight
03:27 PM JT-Shop: he had marks all down the bed with + or -
03:29 PM perry_j1987: lol
03:33 PM perry_j1987: fly cutting it so its in-line with the axis
03:33 PM perry_j1987: the block i have mounted heh
03:34 PM perry_j1987: have a real nice C clamp for a carriage lock haha
03:35 PM perry_j1987: really loving this fly cutter heh
03:39 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, should i do the 2.8 or both 2.7 & 2.8?
03:40 PM JT-Shop: test 2.7 then 2.8
03:41 PM Tom_L: ok, i think it's close to time to leave here but i'll finish later
03:41 PM JT-Shop: ok thanks
03:43 PM Tom_L: 2.8xx docs show 2.7 link
03:43 PM Tom_L: and typo on that section for 2.8
03:43 PM Tom_L: also download the latest 2.7... should be 2.8
03:44 PM Tom_L: bbl
03:45 PM solarwind: Is there some kind of interface for linuxcnc that allows for "interactive machining"? For example, let's say I want to mostly manually machine something, and I've already set up my workpiece and decide I want to mill out a circle starting from wherever it's positioned right now, with a given diameter and depth
03:45 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, check all those links.. i think some are mixed up
03:46 PM solarwind: That would be super convenient if I can give it small tasks like that on demand
03:46 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, 2.8 uspace links to the docs
03:46 PM solarwind: _without_ having to write the G code
03:46 PM solarwind: If such an interface doesn't exist, it should be trivial to implement
03:46 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, 2.8 docs link to 2.7 docs
03:47 PM Tom_L: i'll finish grabbing em when i get back
03:49 PM JT-Cave: fixed links and text
03:55 PM roycroft: i just made a mess - hopefully i can clean it up ok
03:56 PM roycroft: i glued the edging onto my cabinet counter top, and it's so hot the glue was drying faster than i could assemble
03:56 PM * roycroft may have some slight misalignments to deal with
03:57 PM roycroft: i just did not want to wait another week to do this
03:57 PM roycroft: assuming the weather will be more favorable in another week
03:57 PM XXCoder: I suppose can use planes to trim those
03:57 PM XXCoder: it should cool down a bit in couple days
03:58 PM solarwind: Yeah, single hose portable ACs just do not have a net cooling effect in a room :(
03:58 PM roycroft: i'll see what it looks like when i remove the clamps
03:58 PM solarwind: It's going to be a project to convert these to dual hose
03:58 PM XXCoder: I paid quite a lot of money to get 2 hose ac because of that
03:59 PM roycroft: i'll start printing with that bronze filament tonight, xxcoder
03:59 PM XXCoder: fancy :)
03:59 PM roycroft: all that's left in the wall drawers are steel fasteners, and my grey filament arrives on tuesday, supposedly
03:59 PM roycroft: possibly tomorrow
03:59 PM solarwind: All it takes to convert single hose to dual hose is a mount to attach a second hose where the intake is
04:00 PM XXCoder: pretty easy with 3d printer I guess
04:00 PM XXCoder: my AC pre-dates my fancy mk3s
04:09 PM * JT-Shop attempts to print the glass of milk cat excluder again...
04:55 PM JT-Shop: this print is looking better... upped the hot end by 5°
04:55 PM XXCoder: should do heat towers
04:55 PM XXCoder: see what temp is best
05:19 PM JT-Shop: got a link to heat towers?
05:21 PM XXCoder: oh sure a sec
05:22 PM XXCoder: https://www.printables.com/model/2203-customisable-heat-tower-with-bridges
05:24 PM perry_j1987: https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/shopping/catalog/drives_-a-_soft_starters/ac_variable_frequency_drives_(vfd)/micro/gs11n-11p0 so this would be a suitable replacement for https://www.wolfautomation.com/vfd-1hp-120-230v-single-phase-ip20-modbus-pa/?gclid=CjwKCAjw3K2XBhAzEiwAmmgrArelu3OYP06zodE9cOvcnOzMwpf4f6cuyKQGPgDHOh0Xre5aiz9t2xoCaCoQAvD_BwE it looks like
05:24 PM Rab: solarwind, like a conversational interface for describing toolpath primitives in a more abstract way than gcode?
05:24 PM perry_j1987: just want to make sure before i pull the trigger
05:26 PM JT-Shop: how will you control the vfd?
05:26 PM solarwind: Rab yeah, something where I can just give it a command with a few keystrokes to tell it to perform some "action"
05:26 PM JT-Shop: ngcgui can do that
05:29 PM perry_j1987: just 0-10 like i am currently
05:29 PM perry_j1987: but looks like this new one would give me other options too
05:29 PM JT-Shop: I bet they have improved them a lot since the GS2's that I have on the shelf
05:32 PM perry_j1987: so good brand n all?
05:33 PM JT-Shop: yep, I use AD all the time
05:34 PM JT-Shop: Just open SCAD file, modify labels you want have there and export it to stl with OpenSCAD.
05:34 PM JT-Shop: anyone use OpenSCAD?
05:40 PM JT-Shop: canceled that print... try again tomorrow
05:41 PM XXCoder: I do but only a little
05:41 PM XXCoder: there should be GUI on interface for changable variables
05:45 PM JT-Shop: that would be nice
05:46 PM JT-Shop: dunno why he says to do a M104 then a M109...
05:46 PM XXCoder: jt openscad DO have it
05:46 PM XXCoder: lemme look a sec
05:47 PM XXCoder: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/OpenSCAD_User_Manual/Customizer#Activation_of_Customizer_panel
05:49 PM XXCoder: jt it looks like this https://imgur.com/nR2yzg5.png
05:49 PM XXCoder: look at right side
05:50 PM JT-Shop: I'll see if I have time to install it before free time is up in the am
05:51 PM JT-Shop: all you need is the M109 in the custom gcode...
05:52 PM XXCoder: ok
05:52 PM JT-Shop: M109 both sets the hot end temp and waits for it to get up to temp
05:52 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
05:58 PM XXCoder: might not be the case for some machines I guess?
05:58 PM _unreal_: haaa haaa..... just found out the annoying neighbor who has been causing everyone lots of pain here in this HOA just died fri.
05:59 PM _unreal_: always calling the HOA with complaints on everyone
05:59 PM _unreal_: for anything
05:59 PM XXCoder: when we was seeking a house, we had few conditions... and no hoa
06:00 PM _unreal_: G...F.... rid dens
06:00 PM XXCoder: girlfriend rid dens?
06:00 PM _unreal_: the asswhole was a very very heavy smoker drinker
06:01 PM _unreal_: and would go out of his way to piss people off
06:34 PM solarwind: Hmmmm I'm entertaining the idea of water cooling the condenser on my portable ACs. I got a whole bunch of them for next to nothing
06:34 PM solarwind: They're all very good and work perfectly
06:35 PM solarwind: The condenser is just a radiator at the end of the day, so theoretically it can be immersed in water (some kind of coolant with corrosion inhibitors) with a single large automotive radiator mounted outside
06:36 PM solarwind: I have about 10 tons of cooling power here, just need to solve the "single hose" problem either by making a manifold for them to suck in air from outside, or this water cooling idea
06:38 PM solarwind: I did get 12 of them for < $1000 total, so might be able to experiment with one of them
06:52 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, 2.8.2 uspace link still broke
06:53 PM Tom_L: still points to 2.8.2 en docs
06:55 PM Tom_L: i did edit my end and dl it though
