12:00 AM _unreal_: I doubt that is the longest print but it is the most complex one
01:27 AM Deejay: moin
01:37 AM Loetmichel: *hehe* I just noticed. My two 27" and 24" monitors here at the company desk have seen some shi*. Hat the PC hang with a black screen just now, noticed 5 impact craters on the 27" and 3 impact craters on the 24"... Maybe i shouldnt cut off the part legs on PCBs in direction of the monitors ;) (Impact craters= 0,5mm "white" dots where the Pol fiter in front of the Screen is damaged)
01:51 AM roycroft: superglue will fill in the craters
01:52 AM XXCoder: youre been working on miliary toughness. need to make loetmichel toughness level hardware
02:20 AM Gamad[m]: Does anyone use that ATC spindle kit: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004322818712.html ? I would like to ask what pulley type is on it and size of it. Also what is full lenght when kit is assembled.
02:46 AM XXCoder: happy 4th usa lol
02:46 AM XXCoder: Gamad[m]: looks cool, way out of my range unfortunately
03:01 AM travis_farmer: Happy 4th to those in the USA, like myself. :) and G'Morning to the rest ;)
03:20 AM Gamad[m]: xxcoder yeah it looks cool .. i would love to have some ATC .. this would be a game changer 🙂
03:20 AM XXCoder: yeah
03:20 AM XXCoder: I wish there was such thing as tiny atc
03:23 AM Gamad[m]: I found small ATC too! i like it alot but there is a problem.. price
03:23 AM XXCoder: i was thinking tiny like 44mm? forgot diameter spindle lol
03:24 AM Gamad[m]: oh, its little bigger than this but still small
03:24 AM Gamad[m]: https://www.cncdepot.net/product-page/fm-series-spindles-march-pre-order
03:25 AM XXCoder: wow expensive
03:25 AM Gamad[m]: yeah price is pretty brutal for wallet
03:27 AM Gamad[m]: https://izenengineering.com/products/samurai-120-spindle
03:27 AM Gamad[m]: here is one without motor and its pretty small too
03:29 AM XXCoder: it says its 200mm height cool but doesnt say what width is lol
03:29 AM XXCoder: anyway from bt30 I can assume certain area is 30mm
03:29 AM XXCoder: according to that, its very roughly 60-70mm edge to edge
03:29 AM Gamad[m]: Check images.. there are all dimensions on it
03:31 AM XXCoder: well im way off
03:31 AM XXCoder: 130mm
03:34 AM Gamad[m]: mhm, but still pretty small for ATC
03:35 AM XXCoder: yeah. it'd take up half og my y travel though lol
04:50 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:05 AM JT-Cave: looks like we are in for a week of heat
05:22 AM pere: good morning.
05:34 AM Tom_L: morning
05:34 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
05:46 AM TurBoss: morning
05:58 AM pere: Is there any documentation available on how to set up the automatic tool changer? Could not find any in the PDFs. Noticed there is a carousel HAL component. Is it the best option?
06:00 AM Gamad[m]: @pere im interested into that too!
06:03 AM travis_farmer: pere: best my research has told me, the carousel component handles just the carousel. the ATC spindle is controlled with a custom M6 remap macro code. but that is as far as i have researched, as i don't "yet" have a ATC spindle.
06:07 AM travis_farmer: you could in theory make the carousel an axis, and use the M6 remap code to control it as well...
06:10 AM pere: My tool changer run on a hydraulic motor with sensors reporting rotational position and 'tool in position', whatever that means. :)
06:37 AM JT-Cave: pere, my tool changer has a pneumatic motor and a BCD encoder and I used classicladder to change tools
06:37 AM pere: is such setup documented somewhere? could not find it in the manual.
06:38 AM pere: I got digital tool position information.
06:39 AM JT-Cave: that would not be in the manual just general info about classicladder
06:39 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/shop/hardinge/hardinge.xhtml
06:39 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/files/chnc/configuration/
06:40 AM JT-Cave: hardinge.clp is the ladder file, you can't view it but you can load it into a simulator to see the logic
06:41 AM * JT-Cave fixes some break fast
06:41 AM travis_farmer: i didn't know breakfast was broken ;)
06:42 AM pere: it is fast broken, it is in the name. :)
06:48 AM henrikssn[m] is now known as hn9861[m]
08:44 AM Loetmichel: roycroft: superglue does not do polarisation filtering though, hence the white "pixels"
08:46 AM acer is now known as _unreal_
08:46 AM _unreal_: ?? almost 10 wtf? WOW DID I sleep hard.
09:17 AM CloudEvil: whatyearisit.gif
09:25 AM Loetmichel: more like: which century, CloudEvil
09:36 AM roycroft: happy birthday, divided states of america
09:37 AM JT-Shop2: <roycroft> shellac
09:38 AM JT-Shop2: thanks roycroft
09:42 AM _unreal_: started in intake print.
09:42 AM _unreal_: ugh
09:42 AM _unreal_: going to take so many hours to print this freaking thing
09:43 AM _unreal_: but at least it will be 10x better then what I'm using right now
09:43 AM _unreal_: and I'm not even saying what I'm using right now is bad
09:44 AM _unreal_: my only issue with the current build that one designed by someone else. is that shit keeps getting by and gets into my blower motor.
09:44 AM CloudEvil: :)
09:44 AM _unreal_: really bad when its aluminum and it gets stuck on the fins.
09:44 AM _unreal_: high rpm impella blower
09:44 AM _unreal_: vibrates from the tiny aluminum shavings
09:44 AM Loetmichel: _unreal_: let me guess: it doesnt stick equally to all blades?
09:45 AM Loetmichel: making things a bit "shaky"?
09:45 AM _unreal_: oddly no ;)
09:45 AM _unreal_: Loetmichel, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UPeafbuzTVUI1wyX-EwYIeL5fQUjnguf?usp=sharing
09:46 AM Loetmichel: i meant unbalanced. which means "no fun" if high rpm impeller
09:46 AM _unreal_: si
09:57 AM roycroft: i have to go pick up my paycheck today
09:57 AM roycroft: i have tons of things to do, but that is a 2 hour trip :(
09:58 AM roycroft: but at least i don't have any more fripping drawers/trays to work on
10:00 AM roycroft: i also have to stop off at a data center downtown on the way back for a couple minutes, but there's a marathon today and many of the roads are closed
10:00 AM roycroft: i don't know which ones, so that could get interesting
10:17 AM _unreal_: the intake is half done printing
10:18 AM _unreal_: sounds like its going to be a marathon just to get to the data center LOL
10:18 AM _unreal_: let alone the paycheck
10:19 AM _unreal_: UGH. I cant wait till this one part is done. its one of the one's that is a risky print
10:19 AM _unreal_: tall skinny afraid of it letting go
10:53 AM _unreal_: finally the print is hitting the tapper area so its " going faster and faster "
11:10 AM _unreal_: few more min. and even if the print failed its a viable print.
11:30 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, how tall is the main body?
11:37 AM _unreal_: the entire thing stacked?
11:37 AM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UPeafbuzTVUI1wyX-EwYIeL5fQUjnguf?usp=sharing
11:38 AM _unreal_: are you thiking about making one?
11:38 AM _unreal_: its a cad drawing so it could be scaled up if needed and still be with in the working design of say having 4" intake instead of the 1.5" its currently "scaled too"
11:40 AM Tom_L: no i just wondered how big it was
11:40 AM Tom_L: what cad?
11:47 AM sliptonicBradCol: Rebuilt the control PC from scratch. This time with Debian 10 and the lcnc 2.9 packages. The gmoccapy 4 axis sim configuration hangs and pegs the CPU at 110% (4 cpu machine)
11:47 AM sliptonicBradCol: I can't be the only one seeing this.
11:47 AM _unreal_: I use designspark
11:48 AM _unreal_: but I can output the files as dxf, stl what ever
11:51 AM Tom_L: dxf are 2d and i hate stl
11:55 AM _unreal_: what format do you use?
11:55 AM Tom_L: for 3d typically iges
11:55 AM Tom_L: for a flat file dxf usually
11:55 AM _unreal_: using what software?
11:56 AM Tom_L: acad, smartcam, solidworks or catia
11:56 AM Tom_L: just depends
11:56 AM _unreal_: I use fusion and designspark 99% of the time
11:57 AM _unreal_: fusion I really only use for the CAM aspect of it. the CAD side is a pia and they keep "updating" everything and changing everything. so I gave up using it as my main CAD software
11:57 AM _unreal_: especially after they did a BIG update and totally changed the location of just about fucking FUCKING everything.
11:58 AM _unreal_: instantly rendered all of the online help videos usless
11:58 AM _unreal_: even people making the videos complained
11:59 AM _unreal_: printing the separator plate right now.
12:14 PM _unreal_: ve7it, hi
12:14 PM _unreal_: ve7it, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UPeafbuzTVUI1wyX-EwYIeL5fQUjnguf?usp=sharing
12:20 PM _unreal_: !!!! damn it
12:20 PM _unreal_: I should have printed two parts I'm printing separate together as one.
12:21 PM * Tom_L gives _unreal_ a hot butter knife to cut them apart
12:21 PM _unreal_: well the problem is that the separator plate "floats" a few mm
12:22 PM _unreal_: I would have had to support it. never even thought about it. mainly because I was looking at it as a way to be able to mount / stack the cones and glue them and clean it up on the inside
12:24 PM * t4nk_freenode gives _unreal_ a napkin to wipe the butter dripping from his head
12:24 PM Tom_L: 5 parts in all?
12:25 PM _unreal_: yes
12:25 PM _unreal_: a lot to do with the size of my printer
12:25 PM Tom_L: the main body is ~4" diameter?
12:26 PM _unreal_: 110mm not including the intake
12:27 PM Tom_L: the outlet fits a standard vacuum hose?
12:29 PM _unreal_: should
12:29 PM _unreal_: its 31mm
12:29 PM _unreal_: ID
12:30 PM _unreal_: so the standard 1.5" hose end that tappers "should" fit it" unless its scalled up/down
12:30 PM _unreal_: My build is tuned for the expected air flow of that hose size
12:31 PM _unreal_: but "should" stay constant if it was scaled up to say a 2-4" intake
12:33 PM _unreal_: the more I think about it. i should have added a partial "wing" to the divider plate near where the opening slot to allow particles to fall ends. That would cause the air speed to pickup blasting the incoming air to the wall pinning more particles to the wall and increasing the speed of the airflow in a circle.
12:34 PM _unreal_: ya I really should have made it all one part. oh well
12:34 PM _unreal_: but STILL. I do need access to the inside. and I didnt feel like making the walls extra thick so I could make thread and screw it together.
12:34 PM _unreal_: god that would have been such a pain.
12:35 PM _unreal_: the wing design would have been a pain as well.
12:48 PM _unreal_: figures I used gyrate for the infill LOL forgot all about that
12:48 PM _unreal_: ohwell
12:54 PM _unreal_: really wish I had a bigger 3d printer
12:55 PM _unreal_: :/
12:55 PM _unreal_: but I'd rather build one then buy one
01:02 PM roycroft: i've thought about making mine a bit bigger
01:03 PM roycroft: but it probably makes more sense to just buy another, bigger one, so i'll have two
01:03 PM _unreal_: I'd rather build a big cube frame style
01:04 PM roycroft: i don't need more z, but my print bed is 230x230
01:04 PM roycroft: 400x400 would be much better
01:05 PM _unreal_: I'm working with 110x110x120
01:05 PM roycroft: that's a big claustrophobic
01:06 PM roycroft: the ender 5 plus is 350x350x400
01:07 PM roycroft: which is better than what i have now, but i'd really like 400x400x at least 350
01:07 PM _unreal_: its anoying having to break designs up and section print them then glue
01:09 PM roycroft: but until i get some filament that actually works, it doesn't matter how big my print bed is
01:10 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, email me a couple of drawer pull screws... I can't find mine
01:13 PM roycroft: what length? i have 1-1/4" and 1-3/4"
01:17 PM JT-Shop: that's a good question
01:18 PM JT-Shop: my swag is 1 3/4"
01:19 PM JT-Shop: and I know I had some left from the under saw cabinet build
01:21 PM roycroft: the email got rejected - attachment too large
01:21 PM roycroft: sorry
01:22 PM JT-Shop: ok, thanks for trying :)
01:23 PM * roycroft doesn't have all that many left anyway - he used quite a few recently
01:23 PM XXCoder: wow theyre out of touch https://www.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=6b333aad07b19347
01:24 PM XXCoder: it doesnt even meet wa minium wage at low side
01:24 PM XXCoder: nor high end
01:24 PM CloudEvil: 'yeah, I think you left a zero off the wage'
01:25 PM _unreal_: The thing I'm hoping is that I can hard attach the divider plate to the lid. if I can an it works well then I still have full acccess to doing anything I need to do inside
01:25 PM JT-Shop2: the drawer pull is ready for finishing
01:25 PM CloudEvil: Perhaps not quite that much, but $13,...
01:26 PM JT-Shop2: fast food pays better than that
01:39 PM _unreal_: thats whats nice about what I do for work. its nearly recession proof.
02:08 PM Tom_L: 101F tomorrow, 104 Wed 102 Thur
02:08 PM Tom_L: somebody turned up the burners
02:08 PM XXCoder: 70f here
02:09 PM ve7it: _unreal_, good afternoon
02:09 PM Tom_L: 95F right now
02:11 PM ve7it: 14C or 57F here and raining at the moment
02:22 PM solarwind: Are residential water heater tanks just regular steel inside?
02:23 PM solarwind: Or are they coated with something to prevent rust?
02:27 PM pcw--home: May be enameled inside but I think always have Cathodic protection
02:28 PM DigitalReaper: probably depends on where you are in the world (ie. code requirements) and manufacturer. FWIW I've seen tanks with rubber bladders in them, galvanised might be an option, some are stainless and we used to have a big copper tank in our house (from the 50's, mucho $$$ now i'm sure)
02:30 PM ve7it: tanks in Canada are glass lined and cathodic protection with zinc or magnesium anode
02:31 PM ve7it: usually only rust out around where the heating element flanges have been welded in
02:32 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: At least in my area they usually fill up with scale before they rust out
02:59 PM XXCoder: know what name the machine that mills by moving back and forward with tool? not spindle spinning tool
02:59 PM XXCoder: I thought linear mill but it wasnt right
02:59 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Shaper or planer?
03:00 PM XXCoder: think so?
03:01 PM XXCoder: shaper is better word out of two
03:01 PM * JT-Shop2 found the two missing cabinet screws
03:01 PM XXCoder: yay
03:01 PM JT-Shop2: shaper
03:02 PM XXCoder: now clean up your shop. its probably messy by all searching ;)
03:03 PM miss0r: The most ridiculous thing I dropped lately was a tiny spring from an electrical switch into the chip pan of a lathe making chips of simular size and form.. It took a while to find it :D
03:04 PM travis_farmer: so, i have been trying to install Debian Bullseye (11) so i can try some stuff for @TurBoss, and for some reason, GRUB will NOT install on my drive... i have tried 3 times, and each time i get a fatal error trying to install to the drive.
03:06 PM _unreal_: an other part finished
03:06 PM _unreal_: now printing the lid
03:06 PM _unreal_: working on my 4 of 6 prints
03:07 PM XXCoder: travis_farmer: I watch one of watch restore channels. guy lost what looks like really tiny flea
03:07 PM XXCoder: it was important bolt for watch. it took him over a week to find it
03:07 PM XXCoder: usually he just nabs from junk but it was unique'
03:08 PM travis_farmer: the drive was at one point a spare for my big server, and was involved in being a RAID1 drive, but shouldn't partioning take care of it?
03:08 PM travis_farmer: not sure of the relevance XXCoder...
03:09 PM XXCoder: it has none relating to you yeah
03:09 PM XXCoder: pinged wrong person sorry lol
03:09 PM travis_farmer: LMAO
03:09 PM XXCoder: miss0r: see above lol
03:10 PM miss0r: XXCoder: Damn I feel his pain :D
03:10 PM XXCoder: yeah. shop is very cheap and tiny apparently
03:10 PM XXCoder: probably lost for good if guy had rug
03:10 PM XXCoder: cheap I mean clean
03:10 PM miss0r: I did it the smart way though. The machine was doing stainless, so I grapped a magnet and fished through the mess.. I only had to remove a handfull of steel chips before I got it
03:11 PM XXCoder: nice
03:11 PM travis_farmer: anybody have thoughts on why GRUB would fail to install on a working drive?
03:11 PM miss0r: travis_farmer: A few pointers
03:12 PM miss0r: More information is needed: how are you installing. Is this directly from the boot device installer or are you doing a manual install? and secondly; for a linux specific question, you might have more luck trying ##linux, but make it as detailed as possible (Include hardware/installation media/options you have choosen along the way? ect. )
03:14 PM miss0r: XXCoder: I just finished applying black oxide finish to all the parts tonight. Tomorrow morning I will start installation of all 12 automatic doors on them damn cnc lathes.
03:14 PM miss0r: Wish me luck :D
03:14 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Anyone using probe screen has any idea why it just doesn't move, no matter the command?
03:14 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I'm using it on gmocappy, it just ignores... Everything
03:14 PM XXCoder: 12 machines? good luck :)
03:15 PM miss0r: Yeah. Factory new hyundais... Better not break'em. :D (I'm doing the job for the machine importer, who managed to sell the machines with an option the Hyundai factory does not support) :D
03:15 PM travis_farmer: this is for a test LinuxCNC install, not a general linux question!
03:16 PM XXCoder: mis nice
03:17 PM _unreal_: its funny to see prints that take up 100% of my work bed on my small printer
03:17 PM travis_farmer: and for what it is worth, i am not a newbie, and i don't like being treated as one!
03:17 PM _unreal_: ok tiger
03:18 PM miss0r: travis_farmer: Sorry I made you feel that way. I was only trying to be helpfull. But it ends now ;)
03:18 PM miss0r: Its been a long time since I added anyone to my ignore list :]
03:18 PM * GTKplusplus[m] uploaded a video: (8138KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/nFbAltfiGzqDCdVsKMGDfyJt/4_5915844720369601817.mp4 >
03:19 PM miss0r: XXCoder: Have you gotten any closer to getting a shop?
03:19 PM XXCoder: nope. kinda in trouble at this time, should be fine for few months but yeah
03:19 PM _unreal_: pob does not matter but I am wondering if I should have hadded some supports in the lid pocket area
03:19 PM miss0r: in trouble?
03:19 PM XXCoder: budget wise lol
03:19 PM XXCoder: jobless for 2 years now
03:20 PM _unreal_: its not big at all or deep but I also dont want to dig out and sound out supports. BUT if it sags... same difference
03:20 PM _unreal_: sigh
03:20 PM miss0r: Yeah, that'd do it
03:20 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Basically this is what happens, not much to add to this, I guess
03:20 PM _unreal_: I could not last more then 2 months with out employment. $
03:20 PM _unreal_: :S
03:20 PM XXCoder: GTKplusplus[m]: hmm is machine machine homed yet?
03:21 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Machine is homed, jog works, probe works
03:21 PM GTKplusplus[m]: This is me trying to use probe screen just after doing some testing on the probe with g38.2 by hand
03:21 PM miss0r: meh. Time is getting late here. If I fell asleep now at the keyboard I would be able to manage around 5 hours of sleep. Better call it a night. See you around
03:22 PM XXCoder: night
03:22 PM XXCoder: do prove gcode have end probe condition?
03:22 PM XXCoder: like g80 is end drill cycle
03:23 PM XXCoder: (if I remember right)
03:23 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Let me check the macro files
03:24 PM GTKplusplus[m]: The probe screen default ones are just standard subroutines with standard start and end block
03:24 PM XXCoder: *probe
03:25 PM XXCoder: damn I keep getting marlin gcode which isnt same at all lol
03:25 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I don't think it's a gcode thing though
03:25 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Because jog doesn't work either
03:25 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Not in probe screen
03:27 PM XXCoder: not sure whats going on then
03:27 PM GTKplusplus[m]: And in mdi the gcode works fine
03:27 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Yeah, no idea
03:27 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I'm kinda throwing things out at random
03:27 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I just need a decent screen for probing macros and I'd rather not write it myself
03:28 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Way too lazy for that
03:30 PM pere: is there a way to measure acceleration and speed using the position resolvers in linuxcnc? I need to validate the RESOLVER_VELOCITY_SCALE value and a few other speed related ones.
03:30 PM XXCoder: basic math should be able to do that
03:31 PM XXCoder: speed is first derivation from motion, and acceration second dervation
03:31 PM pere: I know, which is why I expect someone to have solved this already.
03:32 PM XXCoder: gtk++ wekk good luck :)
03:33 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Sigh
03:33 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I can't figure this out
03:34 PM GTKplusplus[m]: And with only one small screen I can't use halshow to check if at least it's sending something out
03:34 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I guess I'll look for another set of macros
03:34 PM XXCoder: cant attach another larger montior?
03:37 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Don't have one available
03:37 PM XXCoder: drat
03:37 PM GTKplusplus[m]: Else I wouldn't even be gmocappy
03:37 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I've rarely hated a piece of software this much
03:38 PM travis_farmer: let me try this again, as apparently nobody knows me anymore. i have a large (48" X 48" working area) CNC router table that i have been working on for quite some time now. i have a running install of LinuxCNC from the master branch, and it mostly works and runs fine. i have been trying to setup a test version of LinuxCNC on a second drive (2TB SAS), while having the running drive unplugged for safety. the test install is Debian Bullseye (11)
03:38 PM travis_farmer: from the Net Install image (from debian), and i will install the real-time kernal when i get it up and running so i can install a set of DEB packages from TurBoss for LinuxCNC 2.9, and then install his Probe Basic install for LinuxCNC. but when i finish installing Debian 11, it fails to install GRUB, with a fatal error. I was simply asking if anybody had any idea why GRUB would fail to install from a known working install image?
03:41 PM pcw--home: <pere> LinuxCNC has a D/DT component for this
03:42 PM pcw--home: also depending on the resolver interface, you may already have a velocity pin available
03:42 PM JT-Shop: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/ddt.9.html < that one?
03:43 PM XXCoder: nice. directly has derivative calcuation
03:44 PM pere: travis_farmer: sound like something I might be able to help with. could it be that the grub disk ordering and the kernel disk ordering is different?
03:46 PM travis_farmer: i am not sure how that would be with a previously working install media. how would i check for that (tomorrow, as it is 96F in the shop right now)?
03:46 PM pere: pcw--home: thank you. I already got a velocity pin, but it is using RESOLVER_VELOCITY_SCALE to calculate the velocity, and it is most likely bogus.
03:47 PM pere: travis_farmer: are you installing with one or two hard drives connected to the machine when it is working vs. failing?
03:47 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I am running a heavily modified version of this: https://github.com/linuxcnc-probe-screen/probe-screen-ng
03:48 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: One thing is to check the startup log and see if there are any errors. You can have the UI load but the python behind it will not be running.
03:48 PM travis_farmer: one connected, plus two flashdrives (one install media, and one for odd firmware to side-load during install)
03:48 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I'll do that tomorrow
03:48 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I've been in the shed 4 hours today and I can't deal with mosquitos and the heat anymore
03:49 PM pcw--home: RESOLVER_VELOCITY_SCALE sounds like a ini file constant with no inherent meaning (unless it connects to an actual hal pin)
03:49 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I had the same issue as you and there was a config issue that prevented it from fully loading. Everything else worked fine.
03:49 PM GTKplusplus[m]: interesting
03:49 PM GTKplusplus[m]: definitely sounds like it could be my problem
03:49 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I haven't copied everything from the ini because I'm using a different tool change maco
03:49 PM GTKplusplus[m]: s/maco/macro/
03:50 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Too bad I don't remember what the issue actually was though 🙂
03:50 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Missing ini variable can cause that issue. The will show up in the log though. Might not be clear which ones are actually missing.
03:51 PM pere: travis_farmer: are you aware of the shells available on TTY 2 and 3 during installation? Alt-Ctrl-F2 bring you to the first one.
03:51 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I'll keep that in mind
03:51 PM GTKplusplus[m]: I'll be in the shed the whole day installing AC anyway, so I can do some troubleshooting while I'm there
03:51 PM travis_farmer: pere: i am aware, but didn't think to check for errors, or anything
03:51 PM pere: pcw--home: the value adjusted the pos-vel-fb values returned, so it seem to have some meaning.
03:52 PM pere: the install log is visible on tty4
03:52 PM pere: travis_farmer: I suspect you could work around any issues by adding a grub device mapping file and/or running grub-install manually.
03:53 PM XXCoder: had to do manual grub install from live-usb once
03:53 PM XXCoder: somehow update destroyed the grub so it couldnt boot
03:54 PM travis_farmer: pere: i will try that tomorrow. Thank You!
03:54 PM _unreal_: finally it started infill
04:02 PM pere: What kind of max velocity and acceleration is expected in an industrial CNC? I try using 500 mm/s and 3000 mm/s^2, and it seem to work, but do not really understand how these values are used in linuxcnc.
04:08 PM pcw--home: Usually the acceleration and velocity limits are determined by the mechanics and drives, they are normally set as high as possible (with some headroom) given the machine limits
04:08 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Max velocity and acceleration are determined by the physical characteristics of your machine. Generally the higher the better but you want to make sure you don't get inaccuracy or error in the pursuit of speed.
04:09 PM pere: which is why I need to figure out the velocity scale, as I do not know how fast it is moving. But it probably covered 50 cm in less than 3 seconds.
04:09 PM pere: it would to 20cm in much less then 1 second.
04:10 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: ? 500mm/s is as it says on the tin. If you don't have your linear scale correct then your velocity and acceleration will be scaled as well.
04:10 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: If you have it move 100mm, how far does it move?
04:10 PM pere: on the tin?
04:11 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: sorry, euphemism for exactly as described.
04:11 PM pere: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: the position is fairly accurate. less than 0.01mm error in 8mm, which is the distance I have tools to measure accurately. Tried 70cm movement measured using a carpenters measuring stick, and it was within 1mm.
04:12 PM pcw--home: If this is a LinuxCNC controlled system you usually get the position scaled correctly, then the velocity and acceleration are also correct (and controlled by LinuxCNC)
04:13 PM pere: it is running linuxcnc, but velocity and position seem to be reported independently. using a mesa card resolver decoder.
04:13 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: As one would expect. They are not related.
04:14 PM pcw--home: If you do not have following errors LinuxCNC is controlling the position and velocity so you can ignore velocity feedback
04:15 PM pcw--home: if you want the current velocity (in machine units per second) just use the commanded velocity from motion
04:16 PM pere: pcw--home: at the momenet I set FERROR to 100, to get rid of those. need more tuning to get it down to reasonable values. :)
04:17 PM pere: I want to give a set voltage to the servo controller, and measure the acceleratoin and speed
04:17 PM pere: and then use these values in the ini file for further calculation and tuning.
04:19 PM pere: JT-Shop: ddc(9) was a rather sparsely populated manual page... Will test it tomorrow.
04:19 PM JT-Shop2: it's over my head lol
04:21 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: This is not really the right way to do this. The velocity/volt can be calculated using the motor RPM/volt and the lead screw pitch and reduction ratio. This is also how the max velocity can be estimated baring other system limits. Acceleration will depend much more on mechanical parameters of the system. It is harder to calculate and is usually determined empirically. You can generate a step function in LinuxCNC and use HALscope
04:21 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: to observer the feedback to tune the system for minimum overshoot.
04:23 PM pere: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: sadly I can only guess some of the values, like the reduction ratio and the lead screw pitch.
04:24 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Do you have physical access to the machine? These things are easy to measure on any but the most complex systems.
04:24 PM _unreal_: yep wishing I had put a few supports in.
04:24 PM _unreal_: oh well
04:24 PM _unreal_: it will fill in
04:25 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: JT's servo tuning guide is great and worked well to tune my machine: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/tuning/servo.html
04:26 PM JT-Shop: yippie
04:26 PM XXCoder: nice
04:27 PM XXCoder: man tuning my stepper machine was bit of a nightmare
04:27 PM XXCoder: I still remember it now
04:29 PM _unreal_: ?
04:29 PM _unreal_: turning as in location of machine?
04:29 PM _unreal_: ya mine sucks to lift
04:29 PM XXCoder: I didn't say turning?
04:29 PM _unreal_: and its not even put back to gether yet
04:30 PM _unreal_: oh tuning
04:30 PM _unreal_: I was set back in my chair leaning back
04:30 PM _unreal_: r n
04:30 PM XXCoder: I can lift my machine with single hand, though carefully lol
04:30 PM _unreal_: O,O ya..... o.o mine required my daughter to help just to bring it into this room when I took it home form work.
04:30 PM Tom_L: gee only 1 got put on ignore since i last checked in..
04:31 PM pere: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: yes. but the relevant parts are well hidden within. <URL: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=1JxbR7GCkXM > show a similar machine.
04:31 PM _unreal_: ?
04:31 PM XXCoder: I figured it a bit by video recording it and sharing it here and got it workable
04:31 PM Tom_L: some of these [m] guys seem kinda sharp... welcome aboard
04:31 PM XXCoder: mazak. thats a ok machine
04:31 PM Tom_L: what about makino?
04:32 PM Tom_L: i think they run a yasnak control
04:32 PM XXCoder: tom I ran a61, its pretty amazing machine
04:33 PM _unreal_: sweet its bridging now. not as pretty as I would have liked but oh well.
04:33 PM Tom_L: my kid is on a couple mag3s now
04:33 PM _unreal_: mag3?
04:33 PM Tom_L: he got tired of the zimmermans 2nd shift help
04:33 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, makino mag3
04:33 PM XXCoder: watching video
04:33 PM XXCoder: insane
04:34 PM _unreal_: no idea what that is
04:34 PM pere: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: the tuning guide has been useful, but I do not believe I have completely understood it. perhaps a tuning guide like that should be part of the linuxcnc documentation?
04:34 PM XXCoder: it probably is as expensive as a61 but only one machine
04:34 PM _unreal_: makino mag3 oh BIG ass cnc
04:34 PM Tom_L: horizontal
04:35 PM Tom_L: they have a cell of 4 and 2 independent ones
04:35 PM Tom_L: he runs the independent ones
04:35 PM _unreal_: wondering if I should have dropped down the infill on the lid. its at 35% infill. but the lid its self is 6mm thick
04:35 PM XXCoder: tom nice
04:35 PM _unreal_: ad using gyroid infill
04:35 PM _unreal_: hehe I'd love to see an xy TRY TO do gyroid infill. delta printers do it wonderful.
04:36 PM XXCoder: uh
04:36 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, 5 axis
04:37 PM XXCoder: my mk3s uses gyroid infill just fine
04:37 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: ya saw video. amazing indeed
04:37 PM XXCoder: a61 is just 4 axis
04:39 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Nice machine. This is what I am running: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/30-cnc-machines/41503-retrofit-of-a-hitachi-seike-vk45-mill. I had to take the guards off on mine to get it in the shop so it was easy to measure. It is almost certain that you have direct drive servos on the ballscrews. The only thing you need to measure is the ballscrew pitch. That being said, if you have the distance moved correct then you have everything
04:39 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: you need.
04:39 PM Tom_L: ZincBoy[CAON][m], did those used to be mori?
04:39 PM Tom_L: or different company all together?
04:40 PM Tom_L: mori-seki were good
04:40 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Just follow the steps as shown and it will become more apparent.
04:41 PM _unreal_: when I get this new cnc up and running. I'm going to be looking for an A:B axis
04:41 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: No, Mori-seiki were different than Hitachi-seiki.
04:41 PM _unreal_: ideally one that is as low/shallow as possible
04:42 PM _unreal_: the new build has a working area of about 18x30" 20x30 for its true limits
04:43 PM XXCoder: zinc nice
04:43 PM _unreal_: z has a 6" travel but 8" of total depth so I can adjust the spindle up and down.
04:44 PM _unreal_: any suggestions in regards to an AB axis?
04:44 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: What are you planning to cut using it?
04:45 PM _unreal_: 1.2kw water cooled spindle that can do 24k rpm
04:45 PM _unreal_: any material in the range of that spindle.
04:45 PM _unreal_: minus fiberglass
04:45 PM JT-Shop: pcw--home, is Intel 2.5 Gb Lan bad for Mesa Ethernet cards?
04:46 PM _unreal_: if my stocks go nutz as I'm expecting and escape my "home" and buy a house. I will have a dedicated room to tooling, laser etching etc......
04:46 PM _unreal_: and start my LLC back up
04:46 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: You are probably best off with one of the China harmonic drive rotary axis.
04:46 PM _unreal_: is that a dual or single axis?
04:47 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: They sell both. I haven't used one as they are a bit small for my setup.
04:47 PM _unreal_: My X axis is 20x40 extrusion but its going to be reinforced with angle iron when I get to that point.
04:48 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: You don't have enough Z to use anything much bigger.
04:48 PM _unreal_: I'm expecting to be able to do steel with my machine when its all set and done.
04:48 PM _unreal_: ya I figureed
04:49 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, Jun 19 08:04:17 <pcw--home> If you are using a Intel Ethernet chip for the real time connection, you must disable IRQ coalescing
04:49 PM _unreal_: but still I have.. about 8" clearance from bed to X/Z frame
04:49 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Eh, that spindle is going to be the weak point. RPM is too high and torque too low. Using very small cutters it would work.
04:50 PM _unreal_: ZincBoy[CAON][m], ya I figured 4 flute high speed mist
04:50 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, Jun 19 08:06:09 <pcw--home> Otherwise the Ethernet RX will hang in the ISR waiting for the next packet...
04:50 PM _unreal_: for any steel
04:51 PM _unreal_: ZincBoy[CAON][m], hehe I'm using my .3kw bldc spindle on my mini cnc machine to build the parts for my new cnc from aluminum. It's doing the job
04:51 PM _unreal_: slow but works
04:51 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: No mist. No coolant. Use TiAlN and cut dry. Coolant just causes thermal shock.
04:51 PM Tom_L: ZincBoy[CAON][m], that looks like a 'barely fits' shop :)
04:51 PM pere: <URL: https://github.com/SebKuzminsky/MazakVQC1540/tree/bon-dev > is my setup so far.
04:52 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I had to pull the z axis encoder to fit it under the door. It is the biggest machine I could fit 🙂
04:53 PM Tom_L: 'hobby machine' right?
04:53 PM _unreal_: finally no more infill
04:53 PM Tom_L: :)
04:54 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Timelaps video of moving it into the shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhU-SnGCfjc
04:55 PM Tom_L: i bet the neighbors loved that
04:56 PM XXCoder: as long as its during legal hours i would think its fine
04:56 PM XXCoder: sure annoying but souldnt be too long
04:57 PM XXCoder: steel plates is for less damage to driveway?
04:57 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L thanks
04:57 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: No one even said anything 😦 I was hoping someone would come see what was going on.
04:58 PM _unreal_: is that inhome?
04:58 PM _unreal_: or business just looks like residential.
04:59 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Yes, to keep the forklift from going through the driveway. They brought the little 10k forklift for this side as the 60k forklift they used at the other end would have gone through the driveway for sure.
04:59 PM XXCoder: blue coat masked is you zinc?
04:59 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Yup.
04:59 PM XXCoder: ok
04:59 PM _unreal_: why mask?
04:59 PM XXCoder: covid.
04:59 PM XXCoder: it was 2020
04:59 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Home. It is for my home shop.
05:00 PM * _unreal_ the NURSE roles eyes
05:00 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: This. Peak lockdown in Ontario.
05:00 PM XXCoder: we know you... views on this matter. dont need to cover it again
05:00 PM _unreal_: home shop.... sigh. :p
05:00 PM XXCoder: *your
05:01 PM _unreal_: it will be nice to setup all my tools again WHEN I escape
05:02 PM _unreal_: speaking of. my father just had an other pepscan, and came back positive. 1cm cancer location. back on kemo.
05:02 PM Tom_L: pet
05:03 PM _unreal_: he was "gloating" super happy the reversal surgery was canceled. because they would have cut into the cancer location. that could have sent it everywhere.
05:03 PM _unreal_: pepscan
05:03 PM XXCoder: pepscan Enabling life-improving breakthroughs
05:03 PM XXCoder: by mastering peptides
05:04 PM XXCoder: so far all results is related to peptide
05:05 PM _unreal_: with luck the new kemo will kill the very last of it. and he will get it reversal surgery and get a job and I can stop paying for him.
05:06 PM _unreal_: funny how I have 4 siblings on my dads side and NOT ONE of them has visited the state. or $ assisted.
05:07 PM _unreal_: I'm still trying to decide which "box" I want to use to house the new motor controllers and contoller
05:08 PM _unreal_: I'm limited on space. but
05:08 PM _unreal_: I want to add vacuum, positive air, dust collection and everything else to this machine that I can.
05:08 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: The answer is always the biggest one possible.
05:09 PM _unreal_: thats my problem. I have the smallest space possible.
05:11 PM _unreal_: 3d printer question. BEST glue for PLA?
05:11 PM _unreal_: I need to glue the divider plate to the lid for this new cyclone I'm printing
05:11 PM XXCoder: superglue?
05:11 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Superglue or epoxy. I am not aware of any solvent glues for PLA
05:12 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UPeafbuzTVUI1wyX-EwYIeL5fQUjnguf?usp=sharing photos for anyone. I doubt any have not looked.
05:12 PM XXCoder: zinc yeah only solvents for pla is very dangerous
05:12 PM XXCoder: all 3 is colorine based
05:12 PM _unreal_: so do it by the pool :
05:12 PM _unreal_: :)
05:12 PM _unreal_: lol
05:13 PM XXCoder: try it
05:13 PM XXCoder: drown it in pool for while. see if it does anything lol
05:13 PM _unreal_: so ya... I plan on mounting the divider plate to the lid. that way I can at least access the inside.
05:13 PM _unreal_: if I have to clear it or what ever
05:14 PM _unreal_: if I had a bigger printer. I might have made it all one part.
05:16 PM XXCoder: make room delta
05:16 PM XXCoder: https://hackaday.com/2017/03/20/hanging-3d-printer-uses-entire-room-as-print-bed/
05:17 PM _unreal_: I have the steppers and servos for it
05:17 PM _unreal_: interesting design
05:18 PM _unreal_: I have all of those BRUSHLESS servos from the sat's
05:19 PM _unreal_: that is one of my number one things to do with them. is a BIG ass 3d printer. each one of those motors that I have are like $500 each new. when I get out of here
05:19 PM _unreal_: food call
05:30 PM * JT-Shop reads the label real close on the bottle of Bacillus Thuringiensis to make sure it's safe to apply now
05:30 PM Tom_L: not safe for hornworms
05:31 PM Tom_L: fugly critters they are
05:31 PM JT-Shop: sure ain't safe for hornworms
05:32 PM Tom_L: off to walton's mart for a bit
05:32 PM JT-Shop: enjoy
05:32 PM Tom_L: never
05:33 PM JT-Shop: sorry couldn't resist
05:35 PM _unreal_: ugh....
05:35 PM _unreal_: print is at 50%
05:36 PM _unreal_: so they now released a photo of the chicago 4th shooter. CLEARLY MS-13 and the news wont say it.
05:36 PM _unreal_: ms-13 gang member
06:06 PM _unreal_: interesting. so TIK-TOK is going to be band.
06:06 PM XXCoder: its app designed to grab info off phone and send to company
06:07 PM XXCoder: (its also why I dont have facebook app on phone)
06:07 PM _unreal_: thats not what I'm getting at. media was going nuts about it being GOOD. and trump said THAT....
06:07 PM _unreal_: now its bad...
06:07 PM XXCoder: nothing to do with him
06:14 PM _unreal_: finally. its stating to print the stem on the lid
06:15 PM _unreal_: still showing just a hair over 50%
06:16 PM Tom_L: pretty sure fireworks louder than JT-Shop's cannon are not legal in this area
06:16 PM Tom_L: and so it starts
06:17 PM XXCoder: tom anything I can "hear" is illegal
06:33 PM _unreal_: everything is legal where I am :)
06:33 PM XXCoder: including shooting upwards into sky I guess
06:33 PM _unreal_: depends on WHAT is doing the shooting
06:34 PM _unreal_: but yes
06:34 PM _unreal_: legal
06:35 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, not 'hear' more 'feel'
06:36 PM XXCoder: yeah thats what I mean by "hear" lol.
06:36 PM XXCoder: it would have to be loud indeed for me to feel, for longer distances
06:43 PM _unreal_: prepping to mill the last major aluminum parts.
07:37 PM _unreal_: jesus, I need to buy a box of 2 million 2mm self tappers maybe then I'll have a few on hand
07:37 PM _unreal_: I save all of them that I collect from ripping shit apart. and some how I'm always out of them.
10:11 PM pere: In <URL: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/motion/pid-theory.html >, what is 'Rise time'?
10:14 PM pere: also, what does 'determine critical gain' mean?
10:27 PM roycroft: pere: i think that's how much money you need to take in making parts with your cnc machine so your wife doesn't kick you out for spending so much building the machine
10:29 PM pere: too late for that, I am afraid. :)
10:45 PM pere: JT-Shop: perhaps your PID tuning recipe belong in the pid-theory.html chapter?
