03:03 AM travis_farmer: G'Morning, on this fine saterday ;)
04:09 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:52 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:23 AM perry_j1987: morning
07:36 AM Deejay: moin
08:00 AM JT-Cave: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/45994-mesa-configuration-tool-features#245389
08:11 AM Tom_L: what's new with it?
08:12 AM Tom_L: nice list
08:13 AM JT-Cave: the list
08:24 AM JT-Cave: gotta take the rear wheel off the E-Bike again... noticed high gear was too close to the frame for the chain to fit so I need to remove a spacer on one side of the cassette and add one to the other side
08:33 AM Tom_L: got a sprocket tool?
08:33 AM Tom_L: i don't think i've ever taken a sprocket cluster apart
08:52 AM JT-Cave: I have three cassette wrenches but none will work, I'll have to measure and get one
08:52 AM Tom_L: i noticed a diagram showed some sprockets are built as a spacer combination..
08:53 AM Tom_L: hope you don't run into that
09:02 AM JT-Cave: this cassette has a spacer in between the cassette and the hub so I can remove that and make one to go on the other side
09:43 AM travis_farmer: for some reason i never associated JT with BigJohnT... i don't know why, lol
09:43 AM JT-Shop: that's because I'm MediumJohnT now :)
09:44 AM travis_farmer: lost weight?
09:45 AM Tom_L: dropping stones like a rock :)
09:53 AM JT-Shop: yep lost a bunch of stones
09:54 AM perry_j1987: mmm coffee
09:55 AM perry_j1987: so i've been gone for quite a few months, havnt set foot in the shop
09:56 AM perry_j1987: fired up the little lathe and hmm
09:56 AM perry_j1987: seems all of the offsets are ... off
09:56 AM Tom_L: somebody fiddled with it whilst you were gone
09:59 AM perry_j1987: feels like it
09:59 AM perry_j1987: this machine is determined to not let me trust a single thing on it lol
10:00 AM travis_farmer: i hate when people fiddle with my tools...
10:00 AM Tom_L: maybe the switches developed a film from sitting and changed when they make contact
10:01 AM Tom_L: oxidation
10:01 AM perry_j1987: hall effect sensors
10:01 AM perry_j1987: its a good 20 or so mm off
10:01 AM Tom_L: that blew that theory
10:01 AM CloudEvil: perry_j1987: Polar drift.
10:01 AM perry_j1987: tool 1 looks somewhat close
10:01 AM Tom_L: that's it!
10:01 AM perry_j1987: its a grooving tool
10:01 AM perry_j1987: all the drills and center line tools are off
10:02 AM perry_j1987: this is a gang tool setup
10:02 AM Tom_L: question is, if you reset them do they return to where they're supposed to?
10:02 AM CloudEvil: How are yolu measuring them being off?
10:02 AM perry_j1987: by eye
10:02 AM Tom_L: pfft :)
10:03 AM perry_j1987: if i call a tool change and then tell it to go to x0 its a good 20mm off lol
10:03 AM perry_j1987: i can easily see it by eye
10:03 AM Tom_L: i'll give you that then
10:03 AM Tom_L: the lathe grew
10:03 AM perry_j1987: apparently lol
10:04 AM travis_farmer: heat expansion ;)
10:04 AM perry_j1987: i remember before getting tired of dialing in the gang tooling all the time
10:04 AM Tom_L: are they all off the same distance?
10:04 AM Tom_L: maybe you just need to re zero the work offset
10:05 AM perry_j1987: i am not sure it looked slightly diff each one i brought up
10:05 AM perry_j1987: but i need to verify once i get out there this morning
10:05 AM * Tom_L gives perry_j1987 a yard stick
10:05 AM travis_farmer: LMAO
10:06 AM Tom_L: check that first
10:06 AM Tom_L: use which ever tool you zero work with
10:07 AM Tom_L: if you forgot, the tool table will remind you
10:07 AM GTKplusplus6432[: anyone knows why the default linuxcnc post processor for fusion 360 disable clearance height as a retract method when using 4 axis?
10:07 AM perry_j1987: i remember i started with t1
10:07 AM GTKplusplus6432[: s/disable/disables/
10:08 AM GTKplusplus6432[: * Does anyone know why the default linuxcnc post processor for fusion 360 disables clearance height as a retract method when using 4 axis?
10:08 AM perry_j1987: what i dont remember is if there were any special stuff i was editing in the gcode for gang tooling
10:08 AM GTKplusplus6432[: I'm fairly sure I can remove that safety check but I don't want to risk any weird behaviour
10:08 AM Tom_L: also, is it defaulted to G90 or G91
10:09 AM Tom_L: i've had that bite me in mdi before
10:09 AM perry_j1987: thats metric vs inches right?
10:09 AM Tom_L: no that's g20 21
10:09 AM Tom_L: g90 91 is distance mode
10:09 AM perry_j1987: oh ya
10:10 AM perry_j1987: i'll check that too
10:11 AM perry_j1987: once i get this figured out i MUST write this stuff down on a setup sheet next to the lathe lol
10:16 AM perry_j1987: hmm wonder why fusion360 isnt adding g43 to tool changes on the lathe post processor
10:23 AM CloudEvil: How are yolu measuring them being off?
10:37 AM perry_j1987: CloudEvil its VERY off lol like 20mm or so
11:05 AM jdh: anyone know what this means, in machinists terms? https://imgur.com/a/AOQC9BA
11:06 AM perry_j1987: umm
11:09 AM _unreal_: milling one of my dreaded projects. the mount holes in the 3x3" square tube. that is the MAIN z block for the z stepper and lead screw.
11:09 AM Tom_L: google translate does not compute that
11:10 AM _unreal_: just a pain because its partly fits in my little cnc machine
11:10 AM _unreal_: so I have to do rotation setups to cut all of the holes.
11:10 AM _unreal_: can only do 2 at a time. then it has to rotate.
11:11 AM Tom_L: use a couple locating holes. that's what i did on my sherline when i made my plates
11:12 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Y_Axis_Plate1.jpg
11:12 AM Tom_L: you can see 2 small holes in the center
11:12 AM Tom_L: just flip your pattern and drill the other half after rotating the block
11:14 AM _unreal_: the holes are not 100% center
11:14 AM _unreal_: on cent. in one directoin and off on the other
11:14 AM Tom_L: locate off the locating holes and it makes no difference
11:16 AM _unreal_: just started the 6th of 8 holes.
11:16 AM _unreal_: after this I flip it one more time and the last 2 and its done
11:17 AM _unreal_: I can then clean it up if/as needed and mount it to z
11:25 AM _unreal_: ok last two holes now started
11:25 AM _unreal_: can NOT wait for this to be over
11:26 AM _unreal_: Tom_L, I am not milling mounting holes for the Z stepper its self. I have not designed the mounting plate system for it yet.
11:26 AM _unreal_: that I'll just hand drill
11:27 AM _unreal_: its belt drive so its going to need to have some slide/swing action anyways
11:28 AM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, just learned about a new GRBL sender. "ioSender 2.0.xx" on github. looks interesting.
11:38 AM t4nk_freenode: mmm
11:38 AM t4nk_freenode: well, iosender isn't really new
11:38 AM _unreal_: new to me
11:38 AM t4nk_freenode: yeah, I figured as much ;)
11:38 AM t4nk_freenode: langueage ;)
11:39 AM t4nk_freenode: better ThEn poundcake
11:39 AM t4nk_freenode: anyhow
11:39 AM perry_j1987: there we go out at the shop now
11:39 AM _unreal_: been doing some thinking and I'm going to have to toss my main z plate back on the cnc again
11:40 AM _unreal_: dont want to but I forgot about the spacers I need for the carriages
11:40 AM _unreal_: AND
11:40 AM t4nk_freenode: but... the darned thing is for windows, and I aint touching that, not even with a 15 mile pole
11:40 AM _unreal_: I will need to mount the spacers to the main z plate. then do a "face" milling job to them as well
11:41 AM t4nk_freenode: too bad though, because it seems interesting indeed
11:44 AM t4nk_freenode: heh, and it would be sort of an official companion to grblHAL
11:48 AM t4nk_freenode: oh, btw, I made that pen holder that fits onto the dust shoe holder
11:48 AM t4nk_freenode: but it's too fragile for my taste
11:49 AM t4nk_freenode: need a better design
11:49 AM travis_farmer: well your not supposed to eat it... (for my taste) ;)
11:51 AM t4nk_freenode: oh, and, Tom_L .... with all them there 'adjusting options' on my machine... *sigh* it may become somewhat difficult to actually set it up right indeed
11:53 AM t4nk_freenode: I want to redo some of the smaller square tubes, but machine them this time, so they are more uniform
11:56 AM t4nk_freenode: not sure if I can actually mill the bigger holes, since I still have my old Z on there, but I think I should be able to exactly posision some pilot holes at least, by drilling them
11:57 AM Tom_L: that's better than eyeballing them
11:57 AM t4nk_freenode: heh, the problem is that the square tubes that hold the x-axis down.. aren't the same, so the height is off at least a bit
11:57 AM t4nk_freenode: yeah
11:57 AM t4nk_freenode: lol... and as a consequence.. if I set it up, and start adjusting just the slightest.. it will be off again
12:22 PM _unreal_: and its now mounted
12:23 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, depends you could always consider milling SUPER slow
12:24 PM _unreal_: so the mill handles the load
12:24 PM _unreal_: My original Z LIMPED over the finish line milling the new Z main plate
12:24 PM _unreal_: that was aluminum for my current cnc machine
12:26 PM t4nk_freenode: I'd love to... but I'm not sure it'll work
12:26 PM t4nk_freenode: depends on how it will handle the load
12:26 PM t4nk_freenode: my guess is; not too well ;)
12:26 PM _unreal_: hum
12:27 PM t4nk_freenode: it'll probably flex away
12:27 PM t4nk_freenode: at least a bit
12:27 PM _unreal_: I did say SUPER slow
12:27 PM _unreal_: adn you can still do a finish pass
12:27 PM _unreal_: That is what I had to do
12:27 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, I hear you
12:28 PM _unreal_: My finishing pass was a 20th of a mm
12:31 PM _unreal_: but when it was done.
12:31 PM _unreal_: 99% of it matched up
12:32 PM t4nk_freenode: I want to play around with the pen a bit first though
12:33 PM t4nk_freenode: thinking of making some kind of bed leveling system, with a glass plate as a bed to hold the paper
12:33 PM _unreal_: as I said before. consider getting a short 7mm rail with a carrriage or two
12:33 PM t4nk_freenode: couple of set scrws
12:33 PM _unreal_: they could not cost more then $10 USD to you... but it allows the pen to not drive into the work surface
12:34 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, but I like, value and crave the precision
12:34 PM t4nk_freenode: no monkey tricks
12:34 PM _unreal_: wtf are you talking about. are you saying the setup I did isnt accurate
12:35 PM t4nk_freenode: then why do you need the rail?
12:35 PM travis_shop: file:///home/travis/Pictures/Screenshot%20from%202022-06-18%2013-34-04.png
12:35 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ReMMOc5zQjrwCSnNdAv9avkJf35l6s3a/view?usp=sharing
12:35 PM travis_shop: that didn't work...
12:35 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, look at it
12:36 PM _unreal_: the rail just allows the pen to slide UP
12:36 PM DigitalReaper: t4nk_freenode: https://youtu.be/q8h7GSYt3MU?t=36
12:36 PM travis_shop: how do i upload a picture in IRC...
12:36 PM _unreal_: so it can not be driven INTO the work surface
12:36 PM Tom_L: imagebin
12:36 PM Tom_L: if it's still around
12:37 PM Tom_L: https://imagebin.ca/
12:39 PM travis_shop: imgebin won't let me upload... after making an account...
12:39 PM travis_shop: hang on, i will take a picture via my phone and post via discord...
12:40 PM * travis_farmer853 uploaded an image: (4345KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/VQEohtzOJYbUXkaGkgZozKBN/20220618_134009.jpg >
12:40 PM Tom_L: i haven't needed one in a long time so i'm not sure which ones are still around
12:41 PM travis_shop: is that alright? it has run for over an hour with me doing web stuff...
12:42 PM t4nk_freenode: mmm, DigitalReaper, the metal tube to hold the pen is actually pretty neat, should hold it very secure
12:43 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/install/latency-test.html
12:45 PM travis_shop: yes Tom_L, i understand that, but this is the test LCNC computer that had the strange error. that latency looks better than my computer that works (though buggey boot)
12:46 PM travis_shop: the error i had before was 'hm2/hm2_7i80.0: error finishing read! iter=9'
12:47 PM travis_shop: it is an Asus motherboard, and i found nothing in BIOS about 'RX IRQ coalescing'
12:48 PM travis_shop: gonna try JT's config tool now...
12:48 PM travis_shop: after installing it...
12:52 PM Tom_L: looks ok to me
12:52 PM travis_shop: ok
12:53 PM Tom_L: mesa right?
12:53 PM travis_shop: yes
01:03 PM travis_shop: JT-Shop: how do i test the NIC in your utility? i am on the PC -> NIC Test tab
01:09 PM travis_shop: says my packet time is 0.0% and my threshold is 70%
01:09 PM JT-Shop: are you running your configuration?
01:10 PM travis_shop: what do you mean? i just went to the PC -> NIC Test tab. do i need to load a config?
01:11 PM JT-Shop: the config needs to be running so the tool can get tMax
01:11 PM JT-Shop: see the bold instructions?
01:12 PM travis_shop: this is a config i have had for a while, i don't think there is a PNCconfig.ini still...
01:12 PM travis_shop: nope, found it
01:13 PM travis_shop: nope, that is a .pncconf file...
01:14 PM JT-Shop: my tool won't open a pncconf file, you can copy the values into a new config in my tool
01:14 PM travis_shop: Hmmm...
01:16 PM travis_shop: wait, if i run linuxcnc, it grabs the Tmax...
01:17 PM travis_shop: Executing process halcmd
01:17 PM travis_shop: Parameters:
01:17 PM travis_shop: Owner Type Dir Value Name
01:17 PM travis_shop: 36 s32 RW 0 hm2_7i80.0.read-request.tmax
01:17 PM travis_shop: 36 s32 RW 698896 hm2_7i80.0.read.tmax
01:17 PM travis_shop: 36 s32 RW 67720 hm2_7i80.0.write.tmax
01:17 PM travis_shop: Process finished.
01:18 PM travis_shop: did i do that right?
01:19 PM JT-Shop: if tMax shows up when you press Calculate yes
01:20 PM travis_shop: 19.4 packet time on read, and 1.9 on write
01:20 PM * JT-Shop doesn't have an Ethernet card up here it seems they are all down in the beer cave
01:21 PM JT-Shop: is packet time < 50% of threshold?
01:22 PM travis_shop: threashold is 70% for both
01:24 PM JT-Shop: packet time needs to be less than 1/2 of threshold
01:24 PM JT-Shop: threshold is 100% packet time is some percentage of threshold
01:24 PM travis_shop: Hmmm... either i am doing it wrong, or my NIC won't work... ?
01:24 PM Tom_L: so confusing...
01:25 PM Tom_L: :)
01:25 PM travis_shop: yeah, i am confused, LOL
01:25 PM JT-Shop: hmm, let wander down to the beer cave and get an Ethernet card
01:25 PM JT-Shop: looks simple to me but what do I know lol
01:25 PM Tom_L: grab a beer while you're there
01:25 PM travis_shop: grab me one too, LOL
01:27 PM travis_shop: IIRC, i had the exact same error on the on-board NIC, so i got a used one off eBay, so maybe the motherboard just isn't compatible
01:28 PM travis_shop: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4160 CPU @ 3.60GHz
01:29 PM JT-Shop: first I'm going to create a minimal configuration to talk to the 7i92 and I need to add a shortcut for that
01:29 PM travis_shop: ok
01:30 PM travis_shop: Crap, my chair just punched through the floor, LMAO. no wonder i need a new shop...
01:32 PM JT-Shop: ok minimal config built and running without errors
01:32 PM JT-Shop: in a terminal I type sudo dmidecode | grep MHz
01:33 PM JT-Shop: enter the current speed in the cpu speed box
01:33 PM JT-Shop: press read tmax
01:34 PM JT-Shop: copy the biggest value into tmax and press calculate
01:34 PM JT-Shop: my packet time is 62.1% so I need to increase my thread period in the options tab
01:35 PM JT-Shop: then reload the pid values
01:35 PM JT-Shop: build new config
01:35 PM JT-Shop: run config
01:36 PM JT-Shop: read tmax again
01:36 PM JT-Shop: and enter the larger value into the tmax box
01:36 PM JT-Shop: press calculate
01:37 PM Tom_L: is this to get the number for the servo_thread?
01:37 PM JT-Shop: now with a thread period of 1500000us my packet time is 42% so I'm good to go
01:37 PM JT-Shop: yep
01:37 PM Tom_L: i just increased mine to 1500000us
01:37 PM JT-Shop: I need to do a good write up on that in the manual
01:37 PM Tom_L: but this was long before you had the config
01:38 PM Tom_L: iirc it was on the rpi4
01:38 PM travis_shop: i upped my servo thread to 250000 and now my packet is 21.4 and threshold is 70%
01:38 PM JT-Shop: try 1500000
01:38 PM travis_shop: ok
01:39 PM Tom_L: so the config has to be running in linuxcnc when you do the test
01:39 PM travis_shop: 13.7P and 70T
01:40 PM * Tom_L thinks it's nap time
01:40 PM JT-Shop: yes
01:40 PM JT-Shop: other wise you can't read the current tMax
01:41 PM Tom_L: ok
01:41 PM * JT-Shop rides the e-bike down to the mail box
01:45 PM travis_shop: yeah... whatever i change the base period to, i still get the error, and not much better on the packet or threshold... thinking this computer will not work...
01:45 PM travis_shop: it is a PITA to boot, but it works...
01:46 PM roguish[m]: travis_shop: have you shut off all the crap in the bios that is not needed?
01:46 PM travis_shop: yes
01:49 PM travis_shop: well, i gotta power down this computer and switch to the other one... make sure the other one still works
01:49 PM roguish[m]: search thru the forum for 'isocpu'
01:50 PM roguish[m]: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?The_Isolcpus_Boot_Parameter_And_GRUB2
01:53 PM JT-Shop: I had an idea how to make the nic test much less painful while I was riding out to the highway to see if the mail lady was near
01:54 PM roguish[m]: what the heck is the nic test for?
01:54 PM roguish[m]: in regard to linuxcnc
01:54 PM JT-Shop: it tests to see if the packet time is fast enough for an ethernet card
01:55 PM roguish[m]: first i've heard of it..........
01:55 PM JT-Shop: well if never had dropped packets you might not
01:55 PM JT-Shop: https://imagebin.ca/v/6l6nxFUR97HD
01:56 PM roguish[m]: would that work on a 7i80?
01:56 PM roguish[m]: it's a ether card
01:57 PM JT-Shop: yep
01:57 PM JT-Shop: any ethernet card
01:58 PM roguish[m]: where do I find your config tool?
01:58 PM roguish[m]: please
01:58 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], the e-bike will do 35 MPH on flat ground when the battery is full
01:58 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/mesa/mesact/index.html
01:58 PM roguish[m]: are you peddling too?
01:58 PM JT-Shop: online docs
01:58 PM JT-Shop: not much, just uphill on the way back
01:59 PM JT-Shop: so far 30 miles on my first charge and I'm trying to run it down...
01:59 PM JT-Shop: the repo if you need it https://github.com/jethornton/mesact
01:59 PM roguish[m]: does it regen downhill?
01:59 PM JT-Shop: no
02:00 PM JT-Shop: no need around here I just coast downhill
02:00 PM JT-Shop: and enjoy the free breeze
02:01 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/vehicles/e-bike/
02:02 PM travis_farmer853: ok, old Dell R200 back in service, and runs my config without errors... so i will stay with it for now
02:07 PM JT-Shop: cool
02:08 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: just intalled your config tool thing. it installed in menus under 'other' not cnc
02:09 PM roguish[m]: just fyi
02:09 PM travis_farmer853: yet the tool reports a packet time of 21.1% and a threshold of 70%
02:09 PM JT-Shop: yeah, the menu used to go the the right place but I need to see why it does not now
02:11 PM travis_farmer853: anyway, i am going to leave well-enough alone and head back inside with the A/C
02:14 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], it's weird I installed my tool on a pc the other day and it went into the cnc menu, here it goes to other... must be some changes over versions
02:14 PM JT-Shop: got a fishing spider in the bathtub in the basement, gotta get him outdoors where he belongs
02:18 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], bike question my front wheel vibrates when I put on the brake is that loose spokes?
02:18 PM JT-Shop: they are caliper brakes
02:18 PM XXCoder: or wheel isnt stright
02:19 PM roguish[m]: no, that's usually 'chatter' from the pad. try messing with them
02:19 PM JT-Shop: ok
02:19 PM JT-Shop: wheel runs true some spoke "feel" to have less tension than others
02:20 PM JT-Shop: actually just looked it up they are V-brakes
02:21 PM travis_farmer: caliper brake pads need a bit of heal-in, so the trailing part of the pad touches first. that's how i always ran them
02:21 PM travis_farmer: or V-brakes
02:22 PM JT-Shop: they are V-brakes
02:22 PM roguish[m]: ok, got your tool running. did the dmidecode thing.
02:22 PM JT-Shop: it's a used bike
02:22 PM travis_farmer: v-brakes are similar, need heal in
02:23 PM JT-Shop: rims have a deposit of rubber or something
02:23 PM JT-Shop: how do you clean that off?
02:23 PM XXCoder: isnt it easily removable by fingers?
02:23 PM travis_farmer: mud plus brakes ;)
02:23 PM roguish[m]: oh, need clean rims. acetone and/or alcohol
02:24 PM XXCoder: dont drink it and ride ;)
02:24 PM roguish[m]: nothing oily.....
02:24 PM travis_farmer: just keep the chems off the tire, it could break them down over time
02:24 PM JT-Shop: ok, I have take the tire off anyway the fill tube is crooked and the tire is mounted backwards
02:24 PM JT-Shop: I'll do that after I run the battery down
02:27 PM roguish[m]: ok, back to your config tool. i have my system running. click on 'Read tmax' get 841176
02:28 PM roguish[m]: that's the read value. write value = 58522
02:28 PM roguish[m]: which do i put in the tMax to calculate box?
02:29 PM travis_farmer: the higher one
02:29 PM roguish[m]: then what?
02:30 PM travis_farmer: hit calculate
02:30 PM roguish[m]: duh, ok, then?
02:31 PM roguish[m]: packet time 841%
02:31 PM travis_farmer: dang, that is way better than mine, assuming you missed the decimal point...
02:32 PM roguish[m]: what decimal point
02:32 PM XXCoder: boom
02:32 PM travis_farmer: ... hmm, guess i don't know how to read it... LMAO
02:32 PM travis_farmer: i thought the lower the number, the better...
02:34 PM travis_farmer: all he said to me is if packet time is < 50% of threashold time...
02:34 PM roguish[m]: ok, i goofed. put in wrong cpu speed. should have been 'current speed' not 'clock speed' I hope.
02:35 PM roguish[m]: now packet time is 42.0%
02:35 PM roguish[m]: a bit better, yes?
02:35 PM travis_farmer: i think so
02:36 PM travis_farmer: but really, i may still be confused, LOL
02:38 PM roguish[m]: well, JT will probably add more documentation. he's good at that
02:43 PM XXCoder: people good wih docs is gold
02:44 PM travis_farmer: i am terrible at docs. i figure if i know it, so must everybody else ;) so i miss a lot of details
02:45 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], yep that's a good packet time
02:46 PM JT-Shop: after 38 miles of ozark hills the battery is loosing power on the hills but still does good on flat roads
02:46 PM travis_farmer: add a Harbor Freight engine with an alternator... make it a hybrid, JT-Shop ;)
02:52 PM JT-Shop: too much weight
02:52 PM travis_farmer: Hmm, weed-wacker engine then ;)
02:53 PM roguish[m]: the weight is not the bike problem, it's a personal issue......... shut the cake hole
02:53 PM travis_farmer: LOL
02:54 PM XXCoder: more weight, more steel legs
02:54 PM roguish[m]: i work on it constantly, and it is HARD
02:54 PM JT-Shop: it's already hybrid... electric and muscle
02:55 PM XXCoder: tripid?
02:55 PM XXCoder: when I was young, I used to have that old curiser type bicycle. I rode it uphill all time
02:55 PM JT-Shop: trying to figure out how to mount a tiny voltmeter lol no room for anything else and still need to mount the water bottle to the handlebars
02:56 PM XXCoder: my legs then was steel lol
02:57 PM travis_farmer: get a Camel-Bac, JT-Shop, i love my CB Mule, when i was riding
02:57 PM perry_j1987: what was that gcode that sets the pathing accuracy??
02:58 PM pcw--home: G64
03:00 PM perry_j1987: ty
03:03 PM JT-Shop: I have a Camel_Bac but for an E-Bike it's way too much water and they are hot on your back
03:03 PM perry_j1987: wish i could set that in the post processor for fusion 360
03:03 PM perry_j1987: JT-Shop fill it part and freeze it
03:04 PM perry_j1987: doubles to keep you cool then
03:04 PM travis_farmer: exactly what i was going to say
03:04 PM JT-Shop: still way too much water for a ride on an e-bike
03:04 PM perry_j1987: leave the part with the spiggot up higher so it doesnt freeze with water though
03:04 PM perry_j1987: you dont have to fill it all the way :)
03:09 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, if i add my config to the tool dir will it work?
03:11 PM Tom_L: i can play with the 7i80 for a while
03:17 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, what do you mean?
03:17 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], no solvent I have in the paint cabinet will touch the rubber
03:18 PM * JT-Shop goes to give the chickens some wheat sprouts
03:18 PM XXCoder: JT-Shop: tried just rubbing with finger?
03:18 PM XXCoder: rubber tend to cant bind to metal
03:22 PM perry_j1987: getting some oddness with parting hmm
03:23 PM perry_j1987: wonder if some chips are getting stuck in there
03:23 PM perry_j1987: need some better evacuation
03:31 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, my custom bit file
03:31 PM Tom_L: if i add it to the 7i80 directory
03:33 PM Tom_L: then i can run it and test the nic
03:45 PM JT-Shop: it should show up... I think if you copy it to the right directory
03:46 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder, it's pretty stuck, I can feel it with my fingernail
03:46 PM Tom_L: i moved it to /usr/lib/libmesact/7i80hd-16
03:46 PM XXCoder: that sucks. sometimes rubber pads just partially rots and sticks to metal
03:46 PM Tom_L: but i don't see it on the list
03:46 PM XXCoder: or in least chemically decayta
03:47 PM JT-Shop: I'll have to look in the morning
03:47 PM Tom_L: i think i did it the other day and that worked ok
03:47 PM Tom_L: but it's not showing up
03:48 PM JT-Shop: did you restart the tool?
03:48 PM Tom_L: it's not lower case... does that matter?
03:48 PM Tom_L: yes i restarted
03:48 PM JT-Shop: bin must be lower case
03:48 PM Tom_L: bit?
03:48 PM JT-Shop: that too
03:48 PM XXCoder: jt maybe he will help https://youtu.be/yiBwia-ru3k
03:50 PM JT-Shop: he's just cleaning dirt or grease off the rim
03:50 PM Tom_L: i recopied it to lower case
03:50 PM XXCoder: seems so. did some pads maintance but guess not exactly what you wanted. looking though his videos tho
03:52 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, lower case worked
03:52 PM JT-Shop: 0000 grade steel wool and rubbing alcohol is all we've ever needed. It's safe, cheap and works well.
03:52 PM JT-Shop: Scotch Brite pad and Simple Green. Takes it right off.
03:52 PM Tom_L: probably better than steel wool
03:53 PM Tom_L: that could imbed a few threads in the alum wheel
03:53 PM JT-Shop: yep the tool looks for files that end with bin or bit and ignore the pin files
03:53 PM XXCoder: jt you cleaned it off using ipa and brite? nice
03:53 PM JT-Shop: that's quotes from a forum
03:53 PM Tom_L: read PD does nothing
03:54 PM Tom_L: nor readHMID
03:54 PM XXCoder: im reading this https://bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/5176/removing-lubricant-from-the-rear-brake-and-rim
03:54 PM JT-Shop: 7i80 prob doesn't have PD but should have hmid
03:54 PM JT-Shop: I can test in the morning
03:54 PM XXCoder: simple green is menioned, then followed up by IPA or something to get rid of traces
03:54 PM Tom_L: mmm i though we did that one but maybe it was the 7i92
03:55 PM Tom_L: cause i sent you the pin files for it
03:56 PM JT-Shop: I can test in the morning
03:56 PM Tom_L: that's fine
03:56 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder, simple green and scotch bright pads work
03:56 PM XXCoder: good to know
03:57 PM XXCoder: i need to repair my bicycle, but no real point to till i stop being dizzy
03:57 PM Tom_L: what color scotch bright do you use?
03:57 PM Tom_L: i keep white, green, maroon on hand
03:57 PM Tom_L: white is the finest i think
03:58 PM XXCoder: maroon being roughest if I remember right lol
03:58 PM XXCoder: sigh been a while lol
03:58 PM Tom_L: yeah those are the most common
04:00 PM Tom_L: oh.. JT-Shop did you have to respoke the rear wheel when you added the motor?
04:04 PM JT-Shop: it comes with a heavier rim already attached as well as liner, tube and tire and a bunch of other stuff
04:04 PM Tom_L: ahh that's nice
04:05 PM Tom_L: how many watts?
04:05 PM JT-Shop: I think I'll take some fine scotch bright to the rims to polish them
04:05 PM Tom_L: i noticed over 750 they're considered a licensed vehicle
04:05 PM JT-Shop: 1000w peak is 1300w
04:06 PM Tom_L: nice sized
04:06 PM JT-Shop: 20Ah battery
04:19 PM roycroft: i just got back from the country fair
04:19 PM JT-Shop: dried up yet?
04:19 PM roycroft: somehow, miraculously, our booth needs the least repairs ever
04:19 PM roycroft: just a wee bit
04:19 PM XXCoder: yo
04:19 PM XXCoder: hows the mud
04:20 PM roycroft: but it's a lot more navigable now - a few hundred yards of gravel has been put on the roads, and a dozens of yards of sand have been put on the paths
04:20 PM roycroft: it's still muddy, but it's not sink-up-past-your-ankle muddy any more
04:20 PM roycroft: just easy to slip and fall muddy
04:20 PM XXCoder: nice
04:21 PM roycroft: but best of all, people are reconnecting to the land and with each other after being apart for almost 3 years
04:21 PM roycroft: it always feels really good to get out there and start doing pre-fair work, but after two years of no fair it's especially good
04:23 PM JT-Shop: I put 38 miles on the E-Bike today, started to slow down going up steep hills and I was tired
04:23 PM roycroft: that's a pretty good distance though
04:23 PM roycroft: although you live in a fairly flat part of the world
04:23 PM JT-Shop: nope all hills
04:23 PM roycroft: your "steep hills" are just little bumps here :)
04:24 PM JT-Shop: flat land is to the east
04:24 PM XXCoder: i live at surpising flat land here
04:24 PM XXCoder: tacoma is pretty flat
04:24 PM XXCoder: I used to live at vancouver. all bicycle routes you would think up is nearly all has hill somewhere
04:24 PM roycroft: right where i live is fairly flat, but the hills are just minutes asay
04:24 PM roycroft: away
04:25 PM roycroft: i must be a real tool nerd or something
04:25 PM roycroft: stewart-mcdonald have some nice masking tape dispensers on sale - at 2 for 1 pricing
04:25 PM _unreal_: just ordered an extra RPI3
04:25 PM roycroft: i got a couple years ago, and they are awesome, and so i ordered 4 more at the sale price
04:25 PM _unreal_: do I need it.... not really.
04:26 PM roycroft: they arrived while i was at the fair site and i was excited when i got home and saw them sitting on my doorstep
04:26 PM roycroft: i stock masking tape in half a dozen sizes, and four different types, so i need a lot of tape dispensers
04:27 PM _unreal_: but I'm really flirting with the plantcnc controller. and if this one works on the linux version of there software. I'm going to be in heven
04:27 PM roycroft: also, bridge city tools make a small block plane that i've been wanting for a while
04:27 PM roycroft: it costs $165
04:28 PM roycroft: they just had a flash sale on their chopstick maker, which included that plane
04:28 PM roycroft: normally $300, it was on sale for $199, so i ordered that as well
04:28 PM roycroft: that should arrive this afternoon
04:28 PM roycroft: and now i'll have something to do with my really thin cutoffs
04:29 PM XXCoder: use them as facades?
04:29 PM roycroft: chopstick blanks are 7mm x 7mm
04:29 PM roycroft: but primarly i want the plane
04:29 PM roycroft: it's like a standard block plane, but it has depth adjusters on the sides
04:30 PM roycroft: oh, and now the plane is on sale stand-alone for $65
04:30 PM roycroft: oh well, i already ordered the chipstick maker
04:30 PM roycroft: https://bridgecitytools.com/collections/planes
04:30 PM roycroft: it's the hp-8
04:30 PM Tom_L: cancel the order?
04:31 PM roycroft: it will arrive today
04:31 PM XXCoder: go back in time to cancel the order
04:31 PM roycroft: but i've kind of been interested in the chopstick maker anyway
04:32 PM roycroft: the only thing i don't like is that the stock jig makes chinese style chopsticks
04:32 PM JT-Shop: so my brake pads gummed up the rim...
04:32 PM roycroft: i have to buy an ancillary arm to make japanese style
04:32 PM roycroft: which is what i prefer most of the time
04:32 PM Tom_L: carbon brake pads?
04:32 PM roycroft: that's not good, jt-shop
04:33 PM Tom_L: that would eliminate that
04:33 PM XXCoder: rubber pads im sure since rubbers on rims
04:33 PM Tom_L: may eat the rim though
04:33 PM JT-Shop: yea, looking for some new brake pads
04:33 PM Tom_L: what are the rims made of?
04:33 PM XXCoder: hes been figuring how to clean that off, I guess successful but pads is bad?
04:33 PM Tom_L: al?
04:33 PM roycroft: they are probably aluminium
04:34 PM roycroft: which tends to gum up like that, but there are brake pads that don't do it as badly
04:34 PM JT-Shop: yep aluminum
04:34 PM roycroft: i haven't been in the bicycle repair business in 45 years, and haven't kept up on the technology, but i know there are better brake pads now that don't gum up the rims
04:35 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/Kool-Stop-Supra-Bicycle-Threaded/dp/B000GBD11S
04:35 PM JT-Shop: these kinda look like them
04:36 PM XXCoder: reviews is good or meh. like good stopping power, squeaks like hell and weak when wet
04:37 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/Kool-Stop-Supra-2-Dual-Compound/dp/B003L96WOU
04:37 PM JT-Shop: those might work
04:38 PM XXCoder: reviews is heavily into good
04:38 PM XXCoder: zero on 1-3 stars
04:38 PM XXCoder: nobody rated 4 stars said anything so dunno why those was 4
04:39 PM JT-Shop: I think they are close enough to the size I have now I'll try a pair
04:42 PM _unreal_: well I guess my next part will be my nuts :)
04:42 PM XXCoder: well tose sound like good brakes
04:42 PM XXCoder: pads
04:42 PM _unreal_: setting up to make the HDPE lead screw nut for the z axis
04:43 PM _unreal_: 4 HDPE blocks links with threaded rod. then the core of an area tapped to 1/2-13
04:45 PM _unreal_: Interesting, its been like 9 months since the last time I milled starboard. I dont remember my feed rate
04:45 PM _unreal_: but I also have new milling bits
04:45 PM _unreal_: hum
04:51 PM perry_j1987: i'd sure love to get this peck drilling cycle faster
04:56 PM JT-Shop: fast forward
05:06 PM perry_j1987: lol
05:10 PM _unreal_: perry_j1987, feed rate or depth per cycle? or pure wishfull thinking desire?
05:12 PM perry_j1987: bit of all probably
05:13 PM perry_j1987: its running at F68.97 right now
05:24 PM _unreal_: what material?
05:29 PM perry_j1987: alum
05:29 PM perry_j1987: 3.5mm drill prob 45mm deep
05:33 PM _unreal_: aluminum I would run .035" per cycle 50mm/min
05:33 PM _unreal_: on my machine
05:33 PM _unreal_: in aluminum
05:34 PM * JT-Shop tries to remember how he ran the Ender
05:35 PM c101horse8332[m]: question, not really lcnc related, but still. the glass scales on my new lathe seem to have shite repeatability, do any of you know any reasons as to why this might happen?
05:37 PM _unreal_: ??? glass scales?
05:37 PM c101horse8332[m]: dro readout scales
05:37 PM c101horse8332[m]: linear encoders if you will
05:38 PM perry_j1987: ohh man i got that op DIALED in on this machine now heh
05:39 PM JT-Shop: guess I need to plug a monitor into the Ender and see what it says
05:50 PM roycroft: glass scales are usually pretty reliable and precise, unless you're using unshielded cables to connect them and you have a bunch of emi floating around
06:01 PM JT-Shop: red one installed time to call it a night
06:07 PM _unreal_: almost got 2 poly nuts cut out
06:23 PM _unreal_: almost done cutting out my last nut now
06:28 PM _unreal_: last pass almost done
06:30 PM roycroft: my chopstick making kit is here, and i'm pleased
06:30 PM roycroft: it's made to bridge city standards, and i'm especially pleased that the sled for the plane is made of plastic
06:31 PM roycroft: i was concerned that it might be anodized aluminium, which is what the rest of the jig is made of, and that the anodizing would wear off over time
06:31 PM XXCoder: plastic also means printable
06:31 PM roycroft: but since it's plastic on anodized aluminium, it should stay nice for a long time
06:31 PM XXCoder: if it ever breaks you can print another lol
06:31 PM roycroft: unless i do something really stupid i should never have to replace it
06:32 PM XXCoder: some plastics slowly become brittle
06:32 PM XXCoder: but usually yeah'
06:33 PM roycroft: bridge city sell replacements
06:38 PM XXCoder: cool
07:20 PM _unreal_: and now my HDPE nut is 99% done
07:21 PM XXCoder: hype hdpe nut ;)
07:21 PM _unreal_: I still need to load it to the cnc again. and mill the 4 mounting holes
07:21 PM _unreal_: but the hard part is done. cutting the sections, screwing them together and tapping
07:25 PM t4nk_freenode: ah well... if one can't grow em on their own.... mill em!
07:25 PM _unreal_: If I was able to grow a lead screw nut, I'd be a rich man
07:26 PM t4nk_freenode: that reminds me... how's the amc doing?
07:27 PM _unreal_: holding
07:27 PM _unreal_: I knew the crypto would crash like a MOFO
07:28 PM _unreal_: RDBX might be the stock that lites the entire MOASS short squeeze
07:31 PM t4nk_freenode: what did you get them at btw? all at the same price, or at different levels?
07:31 PM _unreal_: dirty little secrete, RDBX is shorted 300+ percent, thats not possible and illegal.
07:32 PM _unreal_: rdbx market cap is 1.5mil shares something like that.
07:32 PM _unreal_: rdbx I'm holding what some 73 shares
07:32 PM _unreal_: amc I have what 700
07:33 PM t4nk_freenode: at what price, the amc?
07:33 PM _unreal_: If I dont make $ 700k-x million I'd be shockked
07:33 PM _unreal_: ahh
07:33 PM _unreal_: rdbx $11
07:33 PM _unreal_: amc $15 and change
07:34 PM t4nk_freenode: so the amc has you tied down and praying
07:34 PM _unreal_: hardly
07:34 PM t4nk_freenode: the other one isn't that bad yet
07:34 PM _unreal_: fools look at being red as bad
07:35 PM t4nk_freenode: lol, but hdpe-nuts... fail to see amc settling at $2.20
07:36 PM _unreal_: huh?
07:36 PM t4nk_freenode: mark my woids.
07:36 PM _unreal_: I dont know what your word is?
07:36 PM t4nk_freenode: if it even survives at all that is
07:37 PM _unreal_: what are you talking about
07:37 PM t4nk_freenode: amc will stabilize, if it survives, at $2.20 a share, if that wasn't clear
07:38 PM XXCoder: being red?
07:38 PM t4nk_freenode: I'd say so ;)
07:46 PM _unreal_: I'm not kidding. RDBX may squeeze next week
07:46 PM _unreal_: if it does. its going to be the thing to set off EVERYTHING
07:46 PM _unreal_: RDBX COULD go to $1k per share
07:47 PM _unreal_: 3million shares is the float, and its shorted 300% NOT legal. its going to blow (short squeeze) CANT wait
07:48 PM XXCoder: well good luck with that
07:49 PM XXCoder: if you become billionaire dont forget the little people here lol
07:49 PM t4nk_freenode: yes, me neither please
07:49 PM t4nk_freenode: I've always been very supportive of you, I hope you'll remember
08:09 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, supportive o,O
08:09 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, billionaire, I wish
08:10 PM XXCoder: or millionaire I guess lol
08:10 PM _unreal_: millions though. very good chance
08:10 PM _unreal_: My goal is BIG gains in the market. then turn around. dump a lot into dividend stocks at the bottom fingers c rossed
08:10 PM _unreal_: if I can land that. I'll be OMG... set
08:11 PM _unreal_: 5 mill in the right dividend stocks can yield 3-8k/mon easy
08:12 PM t4nk_freenode: which will get you half a loaf of bread, if things keep going the way they are :))
08:12 PM _unreal_: at least I'll be eating
08:12 PM _unreal_: fat even from the way you make it sound
08:13 PM XXCoder: 5k a month'd be great lol
08:14 PM _unreal_: when crypto craters. I'm expecing btcoin to hit $1500-4k
08:15 PM _unreal_: the squeeze should have already happend if the numbers dont lie.
08:15 PM _unreal_: I'll also get into that
08:15 PM _unreal_: and wait about ...... 3 years
08:15 PM _unreal_: bitcoin should rebound to about 80-100k per coin.
08:16 PM _unreal_: I've been doing this a long time. I'm not off by much and typically never wrong.
08:16 PM XXCoder: too bad I dont gamble with money i cannot afford to lose
08:16 PM t4nk_freenode: that would explain your riches indeed :)
08:16 PM t4nk_freenode: _unreal_
08:17 PM t4nk_freenode: 's wealth I mean
08:17 PM _unreal_: ?
08:17 PM t4nk_freenode: ? you've been doing this a long time you said,
08:17 PM t4nk_freenode: and you are hardly ever wrong
08:18 PM _unreal_: I was money bags still I got f'ed over dealing with my father and his stage 4 cancer. and my XWIFE bullshit. between all that. wiped me $ out.
08:18 PM t4nk_freenode: you sound a bit like Adrian Broner man
08:19 PM _unreal_: no idea
08:20 PM t4nk_freenode: he flushed $20 bills down the toilet, because.
08:20 PM t4nk_freenode: but he wasn't rich yet hehe
08:23 PM XXCoder: yay blondihacks time
09:03 PM roycroft: i have been looking for a couple hours for my drawer pull installatin jig
09:03 PM roycroft: i finally went to lowe's and bought a new one
09:04 PM roycroft: it is sitting in my shop, unopened
09:04 PM roycroft: i shall need it tomorrow
09:04 PM roycroft: i predict that i will find my old one within five minutes of opening the new one
09:04 PM roycroft: perhaps even before i get the new one set up for the job at hand
09:10 PM XXCoder: lol hopefully before, so you can return it
09:11 PM XXCoder: recent blondihack video is awesome
09:12 PM XXCoder: what I love is she shows mistakes too
09:15 PM XXCoder: i remember one channel I used to watch, guy made a mistake then hid it. part was pretty olviously different than one shown earlier being made
09:15 PM XXCoder: i dropped that channel
09:15 PM XXCoder: cant remember which now, its been few years
09:21 PM roycroft: it never works out that way, xxcoder
09:21 PM roycroft: it always works out so that as i am opening the package i find the old one
09:21 PM XXCoder: lol
09:21 PM roycroft: if i need to find something quickly the best way is to just go out and buy it again
09:21 PM XXCoder: well hope you find it first
09:22 PM roycroft: i hope so too, but i probably won't
09:22 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:22 PM roycroft: these new cabinets are part of my addressing this problem - i don't have dedicated storage places for many of my tools and jigs, and the new cabines will help with that a lot
09:23 PM roycroft: i haven't seen this week's blondihacks yet
09:23 PM XXCoder: spoilers: its good one
09:23 PM roycroft: i like quinn - she strikes a good balance between professional machine shop techniques and the limitations of a small hobby shop
09:23 PM roycroft: a lot of folks dis her, saying she does a lot of sketchy stuff
09:23 PM roycroft: i don't agree
09:24 PM roycroft: i think she pushes her machines to their limits, and makes compromises that a person in a big shop with an unlimited budget doesn't have to make
09:24 PM roycroft: but she rarely does anything that i consider sketchy
09:24 PM XXCoder: she does keep it safe
09:25 PM roycroft: if i'm honest, i think a lot of the quinn hate is misogyny
09:27 PM XXCoder: maybe? I dont read comments there
09:28 PM XXCoder: most times I dont bother to read commentry
09:39 PM XXCoder: abom channel os getting bit boring
09:39 PM XXCoder: keep getting new stuff new stuff.
09:39 PM roycroft: yeah, he's showing how much money a successful youtube channel can make
09:40 PM XXCoder: also being regular shop I guess. so double income
09:40 PM roycroft: he just did some videos on installing retractable air lines and power lines in the new shop
09:40 PM XXCoder: he probably does videos after shop is closed down
09:40 PM XXCoder: yep
09:41 PM roycroft: that would be interesting, but he just did a couple videos on installing that same stuff in his old shop a year or so ago
09:41 PM roycroft: i think he spends more time buying stuff and making videos than doing machining jobs for pay these days
09:42 PM XXCoder: i like that arm drill and stuff thing though. bet thats crazy expensive too
09:42 PM XXCoder: it tapped with fairly large tap
09:42 PM roycroft: i'm not totally bored with him, but i did enjoy the videos he did years ago better, where he would do things like turning 1/2 ton shafts and the like
09:43 PM roycroft: he got one of those tapping machines in his old shop a year or so ago, too
09:43 PM XXCoder: well watched his 45 min video in 5 minutes
09:43 PM roycroft: next he'll be building out his welding area
09:43 PM roycroft: and he'll get a new spray welder, like at his old shop
09:44 PM XXCoder: lol
09:44 PM roycroft: maybe once he finishes building out the new shop he'll stop doing repetitious videos
09:44 PM XXCoder: after that, he'll get new shop? ;)
09:44 PM roycroft: but he also bought some property a while back, and is planning on building a new house and a new shop on it
09:44 PM roycroft: so i guess in a couple years we'll get to see the same videos all over again, but in a different shop
09:45 PM roycroft: the one thing that i'm interested in right now is those cnc machines he just bought
09:45 PM roycroft: it will be interesting seeing how an old school manual machinist takes to cnc machines
09:46 PM XXCoder: yeah
09:46 PM XXCoder: myfordboy sure took to 3d printing very well lol
