12:33 AM XXCoder: roycroft: had a brilliant idea lol. I made models, but I couldnt see inside
12:42 AM XXCoder: I finally had idea of using overlap then boolean coom
12:42 AM XXCoder: *common
12:42 AM * xxcoder8265[m] uploaded an image: (24KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/LkOwTUFNUifYNkUxPZuusqIB/unknown.png >
01:05 AM Deejay: moin
03:47 AM travis_farmer853: G'Morning ☕
03:47 AM XXCoder: yo
04:59 AM Tom_L: morning
05:47 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:54 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:58 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, did you get your 6i24 working?
08:30 AM dirty_d: I sent some messages last night, but I think I was disconnected. I have my Z HOME_OFFSET set to 0.1 and MAX_LIMIT set to 0, setting HOME to 0, or a G53 move to Z0 gives a limit exceeded error
08:37 AM coralgoat: dirty_d, someone responded to you last night. Take a look at <http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~tom-itx/irc/logs/%23linuxcnc/2022-06-12.html> to see their response.
08:39 AM dirty_d: oh, I saw that. I do have my home switch 0.1" past my MAX_LIMIT
08:40 AM dirty_d: initially I tried setting HOME to 0 which gave the limit exceeded error, so I set it to -0.1 and that works. G53 G00 Z0 does still give the error though.
08:40 AM dirty_d: I would think MAX_LIMIT would be inclusive, not exclusive
08:41 AM dirty_d: like if (z > MAX_LIMIT) error();
08:45 AM dirty_d: looks like it is, with some leeway https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/3ad6df4df1c968cde3aaf1f07575a2de0fb7695e/src/emc/motion/axis.c#L581
09:00 AM dirty_d: I guess it's this bug https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/1047
09:00 AM dirty_d: I built my linuxcnc a couple years ago
10:18 AM travis_farmer853: well, i suppose i gotta head out to my > 80F shop to see if re-loading the test LCNC computer works... (as far as having working internet)
10:44 AM dirty_d: how do pull requests submitted to master end up in releases?
10:44 AM roycroft: it's 9 degrees here
10:45 AM roycroft: but at least it is not raining (at the moment)
10:45 AM travis_farmer853: couldn't reload, as my WiFi USB dongle no longer seems to work... guess i will just have to wait for the Ethernet NIC i ordered to arrive Wednesday.
10:46 AM roycroft: it looks like saturday is when the extended not very rainy spell will begin
10:46 AM travis_farmer853: T-Storms here, this afternoon
10:47 AM roycroft: i'm still able to get my stuff done, but with the humidity so high it's challenging
10:48 AM roycroft: i have to start work at 6am to have time to apply four coats of finish and install in a day
10:48 AM roycroft: when it's dry the shellac takes about 10 minutes at most to dry
10:48 AM roycroft: in this weather, a couple hours
10:48 AM travis_farmer853: i could get a lot done... if i had the stuff to do it with. frustrating!
10:49 AM roycroft: yeah, i know how that can go
10:49 AM roycroft: i have enough things in my pipeline that i almost always have something i can work on
10:49 AM roycroft: i'm just trying really hard to get this project done by the end of this month
10:50 AM travis_farmer853: the NIC i ordered, said it was coming from Maine, as i am from Maine. yet it seems to ship from Connecticut...
11:01 AM JT-Cave: fedex says my e-bike parts should be here wednesday
11:02 AM JT-Cave: amazon says the saddle bags for that project will be here tomorrow
11:06 AM JT-Cave: heat index is already at 103°F
11:12 AM roycroft: i'm becoming convinced that i'm printing a little too hot for the unsupported tabs
11:12 AM roycroft: i just printed a 6" long box
11:12 AM roycroft: the longer the print, the better the tabs
11:13 AM roycroft: i'm speculating that they are cooling while being extruded
11:13 AM roycroft: anyway, i am trying a print 5 degrees cooler now
11:27 AM JT-Shop: hmm I need a solar charger for the e-bike lol
11:32 AM travis_farmer853: more like a solar trailer 😉
11:43 AM roycroft: will pedalling charge the batteries?
11:52 AM travis_farmer853: how about regenerative braking?
11:54 AM JT-Shop: pedaling gives you more range
11:54 AM JT-Shop: regenerative braking is a good idea, might be hard to implement
11:54 AM travis_farmer853: but both would work even better
11:55 AM JT-Shop: I talking about charging it at home with solar
11:55 AM travis_farmer853: ahh, ok. i see now
11:55 AM roycroft: i've had my prius for 5-1/2 years now
11:55 AM JT-Shop: just looking and they sell portable e-bike chargers
11:55 AM roycroft: one good thing about regenerative braking is that my brakes are still like new
11:56 AM JT-Shop: same on the insight
11:57 AM travis_farmer853: my father thinks regenerative braking is harder on the brakes... like the brakes themselves generate the power, LOL
11:58 AM JT-Shop: I'll plug the charger into my watt meter and see how many watts it uses
12:01 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i sent it back to peter to look at
12:02 PM roycroft: the brakes are not even remotely involved in regenerative braking
12:02 PM Tom_L: hung the bios on 3 pcs so i have no clue
12:02 PM roycroft: 90+% of my use of my brakes is tapping them to come to a stop while going <7mph
12:03 PM JT-Shop: if there is a car ahead of me I don't have to touch anything
12:04 PM Tom_L: that can be annoying if the camera isn't aimed right
12:04 PM Tom_L: i've had it randomly brake on me a few times
12:04 PM Tom_L: clear lane ahead
12:04 PM Tom_L: snow got it once
12:04 PM roycroft: maybe a gnat flew in front of the car
12:06 PM JT-Shop: hmm Eric Johnson
12:07 PM Tom_L: did you come up with a fix for the root priviledges?
12:10 PM JT-Shop: yep, it's much more polite now
12:11 PM Tom_L: i'm wondering if it got mixed up when i tried to write the bit file
12:11 PM Tom_L: it asked for a password several times
12:12 PM travis_farmer853: but did it politely ask for the password? 😉
12:13 PM JT-Shop: I flashed my 5i24 with no problem
12:13 PM JT-Shop: did you plug it in backwards?
12:13 PM Tom_L: no but i sure tried to
12:13 PM Tom_L: it was too long to reach the plug
12:14 PM Tom_L: then i figured out the ribbon plugs go toward the back of the pc
12:14 PM Tom_L: i had it working fine with mesaflash in a terminal reading
12:15 PM Tom_L: it could have been my bit file
12:15 PM Tom_L: i've built them a few times so i have my doubts but i won't rule it out
12:16 PM JT-Shop: I flashed a standard bit file to the 5i24
12:17 PM Tom_L: we'll see what he thinks but i wouldn't think a corrupt bit file would hang the ps bios
12:17 PM Tom_L: that bios doesn't like the pcie buss that well anyway
12:17 PM Tom_L: in order to make changes i've had to unplug pcie cards before
12:19 PM Tom_L: i had a network card on one and put the 6i24 on another and it wouldn't boot until i removed the network card
12:19 PM Tom_L: or vise versa
12:19 PM JT-Shop: wow
12:19 PM Tom_L: i've know about it for some time but hardly ever use pcie
12:20 PM travis_farmer853: is PCIe connected parallel on the motherboard, or is it multiplexed?
12:20 PM Tom_L: unplug them and it behaves normally
12:20 PM travis_farmer853: maybe just using a different slot?
12:21 PM Tom_L: there are just 2 short slots
12:21 PM Tom_L: and it makes no difference which one but seems like not both
12:22 PM travis_farmer853: hmm, so changing slots... not going to help, unless swaping them would change the priority somehow
12:22 PM Tom_L: gigabyte board which i always though were good boards
12:27 PM JT-Shop: that's what I thought too
12:28 PM Tom_L: but it hangs on 3 different pcs so something is wrong
12:28 PM travis_farmer853: something wrong with the card, maybe?
12:29 PM Tom_L: we will find out
12:29 PM Tom_L: it was a test card
12:55 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/vehicles/e-bike/e-bike-01.jpg
12:57 PM travis_farmer853: i have a similar looking bike, though mine is a GT Timberline. needs a lot to be ridable though...
01:00 PM JT-Shop: I have a Giant 29er that I ride on trails when it's not too hot or too cold or working...
01:01 PM travis_farmer853: that's what i used to do, trail riding. about 14 miles most days... before i had a job, that is.
01:07 PM RoboticsNut[m]: I use to get a lot of riding on my bike prior to the COVID pandemic.
01:08 PM JT-Shop: I did more riding when I was self unemployed
01:09 PM roycroft: i did a lot more riding when i rode more
01:09 PM XXCoder: roy kinda given ;)
01:09 PM travis_farmer853: lol
01:10 PM XXCoder: want to fix my bicycle and start again, but cant ride when vision isnt even tracking
01:10 PM roycroft: time for some shellac again
01:11 PM travis_farmer853: i want to ride again too, but i am 6' 3", and 300 pounds, so i would been some really strong components to hold up to me 😉
01:12 PM XXCoder: 300 pounds but not that tall
01:12 PM travis_farmer853: with me, it is all muscle... (yeah right)
01:13 PM XXCoder: so, whats your weight when you add in bones, organs, etc?
01:13 PM travis_farmer853: dunno, i am boneless 😉
01:13 PM xxcoder8265[m]: 🤥
01:13 PM travis_farmer853: LMAO
01:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: dirty_d: the "release manger" decides what goes in and what stays out
01:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: dirty_d: I believe that minor changes go in immediately when submitted by the most holy or a class A developer
02:55 PM roguish[m]: _discord_731083529441640538[m]: most important thing is get on the bike and go. just to it.
02:55 PM JT-Shop2: heat index 111°F
02:56 PM travis_farmer853: a lot of the spokes are broken... getting on it and riding may be more hazardous at this point 😉
02:56 PM JT-Shop2: my first mountain bike kept breaking spokes so I replaced them all
02:59 PM travis_farmer853: my riding style is (was) pretty rough, so that kinda explains those that are broken. i really need some new wheels and drivetrain, and possibly a better fitting saddle. then i can ride 🙂 priorities though, are to get my machine so i can make money with it.
03:04 PM JT-Shop: new hitch for the Kobota is done...
03:09 PM travis_farmer853: woohoo!!! now you can plant some corn... 😉
03:13 PM JT-Shop: hard to plant on a side by side lol
03:14 PM travis_farmer853: lol
03:28 PM Tom_L: 100 real F degrees :)
03:30 PM Tom_L: 77% humidity
03:31 PM XXCoder: whats important is that its not real c degrees ;)
03:31 PM XXCoder: that sucks though
03:33 PM Tom_L: but it's windy so it's all good
03:39 PM JT-Shop: supposed to be windy here but I'm not seeing it
03:45 PM travis_farmer853: just had a T-storm with hail blow over. flickered power, but that's it
03:47 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/hail/hail6.jpg
03:47 PM Tom_L: that's hail :)
03:48 PM travis_farmer853: well, hail! that is some big hail 🙂
03:48 PM XXCoder: hail, some hail
03:48 PM Tom_L: some years back but yeah
03:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hail missed us
03:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Wisconsin got the brunt of it
03:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: were you parked outside for that one?
03:56 PM Tom_L: no
03:56 PM Tom_L: but anyone that was got all their windows knocked out
03:57 PM Tom_L: and N side windows of homes
04:21 PM roycroft: so the hosting plan has been upgraded, and someone named jérémie tarot is asking for a donations link on the website
04:22 PM roycroft: i guess offering to help with the excess data and other hosting issues and offering to give money was not wanted, until now money is wanted
04:24 PM * roycroft considers withdrawing his offer to help manage the website, as he is already dealing with one dysfunctinal non-profit, and isn't sure he has the energy to make a committment to another at the moment
04:26 PM JT-Shop: I still don't see any increase in price yet
04:27 PM JT-Shop: were almost 1/2 way through the month and so far we owe $4.72 for this month
04:27 PM JT-Shop: I guess jul 1 we will see what the price is
04:30 PM roycroft: the developers mailing list is broken as well
04:31 PM travis_farmer853: well, what the heck...
04:31 PM roycroft: dkim=fail reason="signature verification failed" (1024-bit key; unprotected) header.d=sourceforge.net header.i=@sourceforge.net header.b="UqmsDJcw";
04:31 PM roycroft: ack
04:31 PM roycroft: there are more lines fo that
04:31 PM roycroft: but for some reason they got redirected to nickserv
04:32 PM Tom_L: he was lonely
04:32 PM roycroft: at any rate, it looks like the list software is not stripping dkim signatures when appending its own
04:32 PM travis_farmer853: everything is breaking...
04:32 PM roycroft: fortunately i'm not at this point rejecting mail with invalid dkim signatures
04:32 PM roycroft: but many people do
04:32 PM roycroft: if you're going to implement dkim, do it correctly, even though doing it correctly is tricky with mailing lists
04:33 PM roycroft: if you're not going to do it correctly, don't do it at all
04:34 PM roycroft: i don't know of anyone who rejects mail from a site that does has not implemented dkim, but many, many mailers reject mail with invalid or missing signatures where dkim is implemented
04:34 PM Tom_L: spammers must have slept in today. nothing all day then back to back spam calls
04:34 PM JT-Shop: I've not seen any spam on the forum in a while
04:34 PM Tom_L: cell
04:35 PM Tom_L: maybe they've move on
04:35 PM roguish[m]: what the heck is Weblate ?
04:35 PM JT-Shop: could be
04:35 PM JT-Shop: translation
04:35 PM roycroft: no, they're just luring you into a false sense of security
04:35 PM roycroft: so you'll be off your guard when they call you next
04:39 PM JT-Shop: hmm we made to 99°F
04:39 PM travis_farmer853: on the webserver payments, do they accept paypal? i happen to have a unused paypal business account that is tied to my website that i am apparently not using. not sure how much trust anybody has in me, but it can accept donations, and make payments, and so forth. not sure if it is linked to my bank account though...
04:40 PM Tom_L: i had to climb up and add another digit to the display
04:40 PM Tom_L: 100F / 77%rh
04:40 PM JT-Shop: travis_farmer853, no just CC
04:41 PM roycroft: it's only supposed to get up to 17 here today
04:41 PM JT-Shop: 45% rh here
04:41 PM roycroft: and it's raining again, even though the forecast said the rain had gone away
04:41 PM roycroft: i guess it's april 73 now
04:41 PM Tom_L: who ya gonna believe anyway?
04:41 PM roguish[m]: just hit 79 deg, and 30 % hum
04:42 PM roycroft: i really need to go check on our booth at the country fair
04:42 PM roycroft: i was supposed to start doing repairs on it this past weekend, but the site was closed due to the mudpit and swamp
04:42 PM travis_farmer853: Hmmm, figures. i could always run up to the bank and start a new account, and connect that to paypal business for donations. not like i haven't got anything better to do...
04:43 PM roycroft: the issue seems not to be the mechanism, travis_farmer853
04:43 PM roycroft: it seems to be that nobody wants to decide what to do
04:43 PM Tom_L: those decisions are left up to the powers that be but Mr Powers has left the building
04:44 PM travis_farmer853: the offer stands, if needed
04:44 PM roycroft: well i think the real problem is that they are left up to the powers that be, but the powers that be never existed
04:44 PM roycroft: i think whoever's credit cards are on file with the hosting service would be the proper recipient of any paypal donations
04:45 PM travis_farmer853: true, but said person would have to create the business account.
04:45 PM roycroft: but i'm leaning towards thinking my help is not wanted, and therefore not caring about it any more
04:46 PM Tom_L: i'd be more concerned about the build server and how long seb plans to maintain it
04:47 PM Tom_L: at least the code is on git
04:47 PM roycroft: i haven't heard him say anything about not wanting to do it any more
04:47 PM JT-Shop: yep that is something that's at sebs house some monster buildbot
04:47 PM roycroft: all i've heard is that yepler is wanting out of maintaining the forum website
04:47 PM Tom_L: i'm pretty sure he's had hardware donations from time to time
04:47 PM travis_farmer853: seems like a bit of the organization, is unorganized 😉
04:47 PM JT-Shop: I think he got some from a place he worked at
04:48 PM Tom_L: but that day will come and do we want to wait or consider it ahead of time?
04:48 PM roycroft: i think it's never had to be organized
04:48 PM roycroft: people just stepped up and did stuff when it needed doing
04:48 PM Tom_L: gonna take a good brain to figure that thing out
04:48 PM roycroft: but people have been doing that for a long time, and some will want to stop doing it eventually
04:49 PM roycroft: that's when it needs to become an organization
04:49 PM travis_farmer853: i know how to run web hardware, but my internet is less than adequate for big time hosting
04:49 PM roycroft: hosting is done at hosting services
04:49 PM unterhaus: there used to be a board
04:49 PM Tom_L: still is afik
04:49 PM roycroft: the days of hosting websites on a home/office internet link are long over
04:49 PM roycroft: other than some people's personal websites
04:50 PM travis_farmer853: well, whatever. i am just trying to help an organization i love...
04:55 PM roycroft: at this point i think the prudent thing to do is nothing, but wait for the folks who are doing the hosting work and paying the bills to decide if they want any help and ask for it
04:56 PM roycroft: if they just complain about the work and the money i'll ignore them
04:56 PM roycroft: but if the ask for help i'll help :)
04:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sons boss just returned from the RSA conf with Covid, same guy that would make comments about his mask wearing at the office :)
05:00 PM XXCoder: as in didnt want to or?
05:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: made fun of his wearing
05:01 PM XXCoder: ahh lol I guess guy went to rsa unmasked and now has it. fun
05:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: "when are you going to stop wearing it?"
05:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: a spreader event
05:02 PM XXCoder: my bro went to a event, masked. good thing because later on he found out one person went to event masked but often removed it meanwhile
05:02 PM XXCoder: few people got sick
05:02 PM XXCoder: note its not a "fun" event
05:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: another frat boy know it all
05:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: got my second booster about 2 weeks ago
05:03 PM roguish[m]: some people gotta learn the hard way........
05:03 PM XXCoder: yeah
05:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and even then
05:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sons SO's boss also has it, same type of expert on diseases
05:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's not over yet folks
05:07 PM roycroft: two people at main camp at the country fair tested positive two days after testing negative
05:07 PM roycroft: their entire crew are quarantined now
05:07 PM XXCoder: thats why my brother isolated for few days then tested
05:08 PM roycroft: people are freaking out about this still, and wanting to know how to prevent it
05:08 PM roycroft: the medical director had to repeat what she's been saying for months:
05:08 PM roycroft: "if you have a party, covid is coming to the party"
05:08 PM roguish[m]: it's never going to be 'over' just get to be like a bad flu for the vaxed, and potentially much worse for the deniers
05:09 PM roycroft: the difference now is that it is treatable
05:09 PM roguish[m]: hopefully the denier get it and just die off.
05:09 PM roycroft: almost nobody is at risk of dying of covid-19 any more
05:09 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], some need visuals
05:10 PM roycroft: only the severely immunocompromised, who are also at risk of dying from the common cold or seasonal flu or cutting their finger
05:10 PM roycroft: a year ago that was not the case
05:10 PM roycroft: but it's still better, and will always be better, to not get it than to get it and treat it
05:10 PM Tom_L: roguish[m], just send them to a deserted island
05:12 PM XXCoder: aka the new leper colonies eh
05:12 PM roguish[m]: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
05:13 PM roguish[m]: Tom_L: remember 'Escape from New York' movie? we're gonna need something like 'Escape from Texas'
05:14 PM roguish[m]: build a very big wall....
05:14 PM XXCoder: remove nukes from texas state, give everyone one chance to move out or in
05:14 PM XXCoder: then border and immgrant system required afterwards
05:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: I agree, same for wars, mass shootings and covid deaths
05:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: we expose kids to graphically violent films but somehow actual news footage is too graphic?
05:18 PM JT-Shop: Snake Plisken
05:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 'Escape from New York' was better than ' from LA
05:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082340/ 41 years!
05:21 PM roguish[m]: Ernie Borgnine was GREAT
05:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Chicago didn't have cable back then, we watched it on Sat with a 12ft dish
05:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: seems like that summer HBO played it and First Blood back to back
05:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or was the first one just called Rambo?
05:42 PM * JT-Shop went down to Coop Deux with a tube of super glue and a jed to see if I could fix the oscillator on the fan but nope... gotta bring it up in the morning and blow the dust off and see if I can fix it
06:06 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: tornado just passed by south maybe 1-2 miles
06:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just a wall of grey, could not see circulation
06:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: was 2 tornadoes back to back
06:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 3!
08:04 PM funkenjaeger1683: can I control where linuxcnc pulls its display files from (e.g. qtdragon)? for an installation it seems to pull from /usr/share/; it's been a while since I ran RIP but I seem to recall it pulls from ./share/ directly within the repo. I poked around in my config files and I didn't immediately see anything that was specifying a location one way or the other
08:09 PM funkenjaeger1683: I've done quite a bit of customization of my qtdragon screen, and given that it's inextricably linked with my config files due to the various HAL pins in the GUI, it feels to me like it would be more natural if the screen files lived in my config folder also - easier to do source control of everything when it's all in one place, etc.
08:17 PM funkenjaeger1683: some quick googling suggests that I can just drop a <screen_name> subdirectory in my config folder and drop all the screen files in there and it will just use that instead of going to the other default locations. I guess that would work for me, though I'd still prefer if I could specify the path explicitly in the config so it's unambiguous
08:31 PM roycroft: i think setting the path in the LAST_CONFIG variable in your .linuxcncrc file will do the trick
08:55 PM TurBoss8676[m]: funkenjaeger (@_discord_173048240046997504:jauriarts.org) you need to add the display app binaries to "PATH" or use absolute paths in the "DISPLAY" variable
09:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: is Amazon so shitty now that they don't update their fantasy delivery by 10pm today when it's already 9:30
10:01 PM roycroft: they've been delivering to me early, for the most part
10:02 PM roycroft: and i don't have no stinkin' amazon prime
10:33 PM * roycroft has installed anothe four drawers, and glued up another four drawers
10:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's arriving 1-3 days late and the price dropped by 15% since friday
