01:35 AM Deejay: moin
03:19 AM travis_farmer853: G'Morning ☕
04:26 AM TurBoss: morning
04:26 AM XXCoder: hey the bridge master
04:26 AM TurBoss8676[m]: yo? i broke?
04:26 AM TurBoss8676[m]: 😄
04:27 AM xxcoder8265[m]: lol
04:31 AM travis_farmer853: no disrespect intended, but every time i see the name TurBoss (@_discord_231682974729502721:jauriarts.org) my mind keeps adding a letter that isn't there... 😉
04:31 AM TurBoss: 😄
04:31 AM TurBoss: is maybe an "R"
04:32 AM TurBoss: sorry a d
04:32 AM travis_farmer853: why yes, as it happens, it is a D 🤣
04:32 AM TurBoss: not the first one 😆
04:33 AM travis_farmer853: what is it supposed to mean? just so i can set my mind straight 😉
04:33 AM TurBoss: nothing just a large turbo.s. .s....
04:34 AM TurBoss: a nick name
04:34 AM travis_farmer853: ahh, turbo, i can see that now
04:54 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:00 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:01 AM TurBoss: morning
05:18 AM TurBoss: new old avatar \o/ less scary
05:22 AM Tom_L: morning
05:25 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, is the 7i80 config tool not done?
05:26 AM Tom_L: no 7i80DB _16 board found when i tried readhmid
05:26 AM Tom_L: 7i92 was ok
05:27 AM Tom_L: then
05:27 AM Tom_L: A program error occured in utilities.py line 491. MainWindow object has no attribute 'encoderGB'
05:27 AM JT-Cave: ok
05:28 AM Tom_L: i think that may have been to do with spindle encoder but i'm not sure
05:29 AM Tom_L: nice utility btw
05:30 AM TurBoss: JT-Cave: does the tool handle 7i66+5i25 combo?
05:31 AM TurBoss: ops 7i76*
05:31 AM JT-Cave: yes
05:32 AM Tom_L: you've put alot of hrs in that...
05:32 AM TurBoss: i see it now 😛
05:32 AM JT-Cave: in the middle of working on the spindle
05:32 AM TurBoss: thanks JT
05:33 AM Tom_L: also the 7i47s isn't listed (analog option)
05:33 AM * TurBoss uploaded an image: (9KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/FZUVWzNXNIUDUNxkimuXiFLL/image.png >
05:33 AM TurBoss: 🤦
05:35 AM TurBoss: got it running
05:42 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, pushed a fix for your error but it includes an error if you select a stepgen for spindle
05:47 AM JT-Cave: in the Info tab you can open any Mesa manual
07:34 AM Tom_L: saw the manuals...
07:47 AM JT-Cave: after I figured out how to make a pdf with sphinx, then figured out how to open a pdf up the mesa manuals were a piece of cake
07:52 AM Tom_L: just overwrite the deb and reinstall?
07:52 AM Tom_L: i'll try to mess with it tonight
07:59 AM JT-Cave: yes
07:59 AM * JT-Cave is heading out for the day
08:09 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, from the File menu you can download the deb
10:33 AM roycroft: i have put a pizza stone on my grill and cooked pizza that way before
10:33 AM roycroft: it works pretty well
10:34 AM roycroft: ack, mischan
10:35 AM travis_farmer853: i was wondering what that was about 😉
10:35 AM roycroft: but nothing i would be reluctant to share here
10:35 AM roycroft: it must have seemed odd out of context though
10:36 AM travis_farmer853: sometimes, i have seen some very odd stuff in chat, whay should that be any different 😉
10:36 AM travis_farmer853: why not whey LOL
10:37 AM roycroft: so last night i decided to resume printing boxes for my fasteners, since the drawers are almost ready to install
10:37 AM roycroft: i found that the ones i had already printed were a wee bit too big, so i reduced the dimensions by 0.010" and queued up a print job, then went to bed
10:38 AM roycroft: after the 2nd layer the filament broke, so i woke up this morning to a batch of not boxes
10:38 AM roycroft: and found that my extruder is worn out
10:38 AM travis_farmer853: seems like it would be a lot of printing filament, why not dividers out of lexan?
10:38 AM roycroft: it's the original plastic one that came with my printer, and i was going to upgrade it but never got around to doing so
10:38 AM roycroft: i guess now it's time to get around to it
10:39 AM roycroft: i want the boxes removable, and easy to rearrange
10:39 AM roycroft: it will be a lot of filament, but it will be really nice in the end
10:39 AM travis_farmer853: ahh, ok. makes sense
10:39 AM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Fastener-Boxes.jpeg
10:39 AM roycroft: that's my box design
10:40 AM roycroft: i've designed several sizes, all even multiples of the base size, so they will fit together nicely in the drawers
10:40 AM travis_farmer853: nice! makes me wich i have a printer...
10:40 AM roycroft: i added tabs in the back to make them easy to lift out, and to provide a spot for a label
10:40 AM roycroft: that picture actually shows the odd sizes
10:41 AM roycroft: i said they were all even multiples of the base size, but not quite - the small ones in that picture are the base size, and the larger ones are 1.5x the base size
10:41 AM roycroft: but that still works out - 2 of the 1.5x boxes fill three spaces
10:41 AM roycroft: i just have to use that size in pairs
10:42 AM roycroft: the box colors designate the material, so i don't have to print that on the label
10:43 AM roycroft: in that picture, orange is brass, blue stainless steel, and black is black oxide
10:43 AM travis_farmer853: i was going to use my CNC router table as a large format 3d printer, but i didn't think the dust from the spindle would help the extruder head any. i still have the extruder head and roll of filliment, but have shelved it for now
10:44 AM travis_farmer853: s/filliment/filament/
10:44 AM roycroft: yes, you would probably have to make the hot end and extruder removable, and clean the router up really well whenever you wanted to print something
10:45 AM roycroft: plus, you would likely want to add a heated build plate
10:45 AM travis_farmer853: yeah, that's why i shelved it
10:45 AM roycroft: but all that is doable
10:45 AM roycroft: a former member of this channel added 3d printing capability to her cnc mill-drill and that worked out ok
10:46 AM travis_farmer853: at the moment, i am trying to get my machine done so i can do paying work with it. adding 3d printing would delay that a while
10:46 AM roycroft: i have space in a room outside my shop for my 3d printer, and there is room for a second one, should i decided to get another
10:47 AM roycroft: i also got a laser head that can mount on my printer
10:47 AM roycroft: my thinking is that i'd get a second printer so i could do bigger jobs faster, but leave one set up with a laser most of the time and one with an extruder
10:47 AM travis_farmer853: i have a laser head for my router table, too
10:47 AM roycroft: when i build my cnc router that might be a good place for a more powerful laser
10:48 AM travis_farmer853: PITA to change the spindle for a laser though
10:48 AM roycroft: the one i have now is 6w
10:48 AM roycroft: 40w would be a lot more useful
10:48 AM travis_farmer853: i don't remember the size of my laser. 5w maybe
12:07 PM Loetmichel: travis_farmer853: why changing
12:07 PM Loetmichel: if you can live with a wee bit less travel: just place the laser beside the spindle
12:08 PM travis_farmer853: i was concerned about dust on the laser lens
12:10 PM Loetmichel: dust on a cold laser lens isnt really a problem
12:10 PM Loetmichel: easily wiped off before activating the laser
12:12 PM travis_farmer853: true...
01:22 PM Loetmichel: *harrumph* Well, either the portion size from the food delivery is getting smaller and smaller or the fact that i havent eaten anything today caught up to me. ORdered a big serving of "Penne Carbonara" from the italian restaurant... took me less than 3 minutes to vaporize it... still hungry :(
01:28 PM roycroft: it would be good for portion sizes to get smaller at restaurants
01:28 PM roycroft: they have gotten much larger over the past 30 years or so, which is a contributor to the epidemic of obesity we're experiencing
01:31 PM Loetmichel: roycroft: talk for yourself. I am german. No problems with that here. at least not in epidemic numbers
01:31 PM Loetmichel: and doing a 8 to 5 job without anything to eat and then wait for the first meal of the day until 8pm gets you HUNGRY
01:44 PM roycroft: germany had an obesity problem before the us did, but we've definitely outdone germany in the scope of our problem
01:44 PM drdoc: pcw-home: are you around?
01:55 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:13 PM pcw-home: for about 1 minute...
02:15 PM drdoc: will a 5116 zener replace that 5919?
02:15 PM drdoc: 5.1V, 5W
02:15 PM drdoc: I pulled CR44 on th 7i96 and the board runs, but I don't want it in the system like that
02:16 PM pcw-home: 5.1 is too low
02:16 PM drdoc: ok
02:17 PM drdoc: mouser has this in stock:
02:17 PM drdoc: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/494-SMBJ5919BE3-TR13
02:18 PM Tom_L: better get a spare if it will work :)
02:18 PM drdoc: I'm going to stick a VRM circuit in front of the whole thing
02:18 PM pcw-home: Yeah Zener diodes are scarce ATM
02:19 PM drdoc: yes they are
02:19 PM drdoc: Will that mouser part work?
02:19 PM pcw-home: Yes
02:19 PM drdoc: ok
02:19 PM drdoc: thanks
02:19 PM Tom_L: phew
02:20 PM Tom_L: $1.08 and $80 shipping :)
02:20 PM drdoc: Well, I have to recap an Amiga 600 too, so the shipping's not heinous
02:20 PM drdoc: :-)
02:21 PM drdoc: and they're down to 7 units of a cap I need 4 of, so that needs to happen now too
02:21 PM pcw-home: even 1.08 is pretty high (I think they were about 0.20 in 3000s in the olden days)
02:22 PM drdoc: eh
02:22 PM pcw-home: bbl
02:22 PM Tom_L: olden days... like 2 yrs ago?
02:22 PM drdoc: cheaper than schlepping the board back & forth, even with Mouser shipping
02:22 PM Tom_L: heh
02:30 PM drdoc: ordered
02:30 PM drdoc: and Mouser lists *5* of that cap...
03:25 PM tcurdt: pcw-home the 5V from the P1/P2 on a 5i92 (W3,W4 up) ... how much mA can it support? ...and what does the "AC bypassed" mean?
03:25 PM tcurdt: sorry, 7i92 I meant
03:28 PM tcurdt: ah ... found it! 5V/1A
03:29 PM tcurdt: still wondering about "AC bypassed" though
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: tcurdt: a reference would help
03:31 PM travis_farmer853: personally, i don't use the 5V from the board. don't know if it is correct method, but i use 5V from the supply, and let the mesa board to itself...
03:32 PM tcurdt: CaptHindsight[m] page 2 of the 7i92 manual ... "Connector 5V power"
03:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: These pins are AC bypassed on both the 7I92 and
03:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Mesa breakout cards so do not compromise AC signal integrity.
03:35 PM tcurdt: CaptHindsight[m] I am not entire sure what that means. What is AC signal integrity?
03:36 PM tcurdt: is this about cross talk to AC?
03:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: http://www.learningaboutelectronics.com/Articles/What-is-a-bypass-capacitor.html
03:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: tcurdt: email them
03:44 PM tcurdt: CaptHindsight[m] Thanks for the link. I do understand the idea of a bypass capacitor filtering out AC noise ... but I still not sure what "do not compromise AC signal integrity" means in that context. But I guess I can also send an email.
03:44 PM rmu: tcurdt: in a flat ribbon cable, usually 8 data pins are interspersed with GND that somewhat shield the data pins from each other. using the 5v option that uses 4 of those signals doesn't compromise the signal integrity of the data signals
03:44 PM rmu: 4 of those GNDs
03:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's not clearly written but when you try to dumb down docs for less technical users the info gets muddled
03:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'd prefer the docs to just have IO's as open drain or collector, CMOS input with 50 ohm res. in series etc etc but that would not help an electrician
03:49 PM rmu: the pinout of those 25/26 pin headers was defined by line printer parallel interface, there the "high speed" data signals are interspersed with GNDs, the other pins are used for "slow speed" signals like "out of paper" etc...
03:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and cheap cables skimp on the grounds since why have redundant expense
03:51 PM rmu: so if you would replace those GNDs with other signals, that would influence signal integrity, but replacing GND with 5V shouldn do much
03:52 PM rmu: flat cable can't really skip the "redundant" GNDs
03:53 PM tcurdt: I am also not a native speaker so that also might also contribute to the confusion
03:53 PM tcurdt: but to me "do not compromise AC signal integrity" it sounds like signals coming in are shielded/protected enough so it will not cause noise on the AC
03:53 PM tcurdt: or is it meant the other way around?
03:54 PM rmu: on page 2 it says "4 pins" while on page 5/6 is says 5 pins can optionally be 5V. strange.
03:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: DB25 PIN vs HDR PIN
03:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]:
03:56 PM rmu: tcurdt: i think it means that impedance on data signals is more or less the same because +5V is sufficiently bypassed to GND via capacitors, i.e. high frequncy stuff has a direct path to GND which makes 5V equivalent to GND for high frequ content
03:56 PM rmu: ah ok, pin 26 is not there on db25, i see
03:57 PM rmu: nevermind, back to lurk mode
03:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: "compromise AC signal integrity" sounds like it passes AC without distortion :)

04:24 PM FinboySlick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqYJS27aC4w Mach, but ambitious.
04:25 PM XXCoder: he based it on franks it seems
04:25 PM XXCoder: less alum and more steel tho lol
04:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I like people that reinvent things like concretes for machine bases and frames
04:27 PM XXCoder: yeah lol
04:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: without reading up on any of the the tech
04:28 PM XXCoder: not exactly a careful guy
04:31 PM XXCoder: in least they use real ballscrew. not 10mm one lol
04:31 PM XXCoder: I still remember that build where guy built gantry acrpss the long side. used ballscrew 12mm. so much screw whupping...
04:34 PM XXCoder: at end its not too bad. seen many worse and much worse builds
04:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: still the all time champ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PSG2al1Sus
04:36 PM XXCoder: yeah think guy wanted nice pipes setup to manage liquids and acciently made a cnc ;)
04:37 PM XXCoder: it predates so much of cheap cnc stuff we can get now
04:44 PM Tom_L: surprised you didn't cite mine
04:44 PM Tom_L: :)
04:45 PM XXCoder: because yours is good stuff
04:45 PM Tom_L: still cobbled
04:45 PM XXCoder: lol well still good
04:45 PM travis_farmer853: worse than mine?
04:45 PM XXCoder: you didnt use tons of metal pipes lol
04:46 PM Tom_L: travis_farmer853, you'd get a kick out of my cabinet
04:46 PM Tom_L: but it works
04:46 PM travis_farmer853: you have seen mine, right? 😉
04:46 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Control2.jpg
04:46 PM Tom_L: i rest my case
04:47 PM Tom_L: alot of that is gone now though
04:47 PM travis_farmer853: oh dear...
04:47 PM Tom_L: i have every wire mapped
04:48 PM travis_farmer853: if you have mapped the wires, it is better than mine 😉
04:48 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL_SHOP_2.8.2/New_Mill_IO_Pinout.pdf
04:49 PM * travis_farmer853 uploaded an image: (1024KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/facYbzHrBFJEEJoxZrilQPEp/20210723_160958.jpg >
04:49 PM travis_farmer853: bigger cabinet, but spaghetti wires everywhere 🙂
04:51 PM travis_farmer853: (assuming the image went across the bridge...)
04:52 PM JT-Shop2: two happy guys to day me and the guy that bought my motorcycle trailer
04:53 PM travis_farmer853: i am thinking of re-doing my cabinet, but it would require a complete re-wire
04:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the only things that don't make it across the bridge is proper UTF-8
04:54 PM travis_farmer853: got it
04:55 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, loaded the deb but haven't messed with it yet
04:56 PM roycroft: speaking of cabinets, i shall be installing the first four drawers in my cabinets tonight
04:57 PM travis_farmer853: on my new setup, i am thinking of going more PCB, less stray wires. just in debating stage though. 3 of my personalities are on-board, but the other 4 aren't sure about it 😉
04:57 PM roycroft: they have one more coat of shellac to go and then they will be ready to install
04:58 PM Tom_L: travis_farmer853, my theory is if it works don't fix it
04:59 PM travis_farmer853: Hmmm, got a point. but it is a PITA to work on. that is the root of the debate.
04:59 PM roycroft: cleaning up a rat's nest of wiring is always desirable
04:59 PM roycroft: imo
05:00 PM travis_farmer853: that too
05:02 PM * JT-Shop2 is worn out after spending 5 hours 90°F heat 4 1/2 hours in the saddle of the BlueWing
05:03 PM Tom_L: i've moved things around a few times testing things or i might be more inclined to fix it
05:03 PM JT-Shop2: the guy didn't look at anything just handed me the bengies and I counted them out then we signed the title
05:03 PM roycroft: i can imagine that would be exhausting
05:03 PM JT-Shop2: that's the kind of deal I like
05:03 PM roycroft: i don't do well in hot weather
05:03 PM Tom_L: couldn't ask for a better outcome
05:04 PM JT-Shop2: me neither any more
05:04 PM JT-Shop2: yup
05:04 PM roycroft: oh, jt-shop2, i was going to mention this yesterday
05:04 PM JT-Shop2: and all that room in my big shop maybe I can rent some to roycroft :)
05:04 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, is the 7i80 done in your config? if not i won't test with it yet
05:04 PM roycroft: a while back you had an opportunity to get a wood shaper, and i think i kind of talked you out of it
05:04 PM JT-Shop2: can you remember what it was?
05:05 PM roycroft: the main adavantages of a shaper vs. router table are that it's quieter, it can handle larger cutters, and it facilitates much better feed control
05:05 PM JT-Shop2: I would have got it but the deal fell through, the son is a bit slow and denied having one to my friend so we dropped it
05:05 PM roycroft: the latter via a power feed
05:06 PM JT-Shop2: Tom_L: you tell me...
05:06 PM roycroft: to me, that's the biggest advantage - workholding on a router table can be a bit sketchy, and can slow things down
05:06 PM roycroft: but a while back i got some router fence guides mady be jessem, and i used them yesterday (not the first time)
05:06 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, the mesaflash doesn't recognize it
05:06 PM Tom_L: not thru the utility anyway
05:06 PM Tom_L: terminal is fine
05:06 PM roycroft: they work amazingly well, and make jobs go really fast - they angle in at 5 degrees, and hold your work tightly against the fence
05:06 PM JT-Shop2: which 7i80?
05:07 PM Tom_L: oh you would ask...
05:07 PM Tom_L: 7i80HD-16 i think
05:07 PM JT-Shop2: I only have a 7i80HD-25 to test with
05:07 PM JT-Shop2: 50 pin?
05:07 PM Tom_L: well i only have a 7i80HD-16 to test with
05:07 PM Tom_L: yes
05:07 PM Tom_L: 3x
05:07 PM JT-Shop2: prob a typo on something, what did you try to do?
05:07 PM Tom_L: and a 7i92
05:07 PM Tom_L: just readhmid
05:08 PM Tom_L: no xxx found
05:08 PM JT-Shop2: ok, I'll plug in my 7i80HD-25 in the morning and see what I get
05:08 PM JT-Shop2: any error?
05:08 PM Tom_L: no
05:08 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/16_Jessem_Router_Hold_Downs.jpeg
05:08 PM roycroft: i took a picture of the setup
05:08 PM Tom_L: haven't tried anything since this morning update
05:08 PM JT-Shop2: what IP are you using
05:08 PM roycroft: it might be something you'd be interested in getting
05:08 PM Tom_L: 10.10.10.10
05:09 PM Tom_L: terminal works fine
05:09 PM Tom_L: and the 7i92 also works
05:09 PM JT-Shop2: ok
05:10 PM JT-Shop2: roycroft: I have those, on my router table they won't go much below 3/4"
05:10 PM roycroft: you need another t-track on your fence :)
05:10 PM roycroft: or perhaps an ancillary fence with a lower t-track
05:11 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, anything in particular you want tested?
05:11 PM roycroft: mine are set for 12mm plywood in that pic, and they will go much lower
05:11 PM roycroft: all the way down to the table top, i think
05:13 PM JT-Shop2: Tom_L: test everything you can think of, make a full configuration and make sure it runs without errors
05:17 PM JT-Shop2: roycroft: if I take the back boards off I can go lower https://imagebin.ca/v/6j5OJvEH15G8
05:19 PM JT-Shop2: I just planed the egg box boards down to 0.754"... I wonder if I should even fuss with the drum sander?
05:34 PM _unreal_: GOD why do all of these rails HAVe TO USE 3MM screws
05:34 PM _unreal_: why cant they use 4 or 5mm
05:38 PM CloudEvil: They are eleven hundred thousandths of a cent more.
05:39 PM * _unreal_ hates TAPPING 3mm when he has 100+ holes to do
05:39 PM Tom_L: get bigger rails?

05:46 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, daughter cards not selectable for 7i92 or 7i80HD-16
05:47 PM Tom_L: probably haven't gotten that far yet
05:49 PM JT-Shop2: need to select the firmware, open the documents and read the quick start
05:49 PM Tom_L: ok
05:49 PM Tom_L: i see that but didn't know i had to pick it first
05:51 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:51 PM Tom_itx: No pin file found for 7i80hd_16_svst2_4_7i47.bit
05:53 PM JT-Shop: aye many I don't have a pin file, if you have that loaded once I fix readhmid you can make one for me
05:54 PM Tom_L: one what?
05:54 PM Tom_L: bit file?
05:54 PM JT-Shop: pin file
05:54 PM Tom_L: is that the human readable one?
05:54 PM Tom_L: i don't use those :)
05:54 PM Tom_L: but i may have them
05:55 PM JT-Shop: yes that is the human readable one
05:55 PM Tom_L: how do you make them?
05:55 PM Tom_L: all i see here are bit files
05:55 PM JT-Shop: I Read HMID and press the copy button then paste into a text file with the same name.pin
05:56 PM Tom_L: ok
05:56 PM Tom_L: are you planning to store all the pin & bit files?
05:56 PM Tom_L: that's gonna be alot of files if you are
05:56 PM Tom_L: a set for each board
05:57 PM JT-Shop: it would be nice to have matching pin files for the bit files
05:57 PM JT-Shop: they are just little text files
05:57 PM Tom_L: and the bit fiels are 464k
05:57 PM Tom_L: ea
05:58 PM Tom_L: to do that you'd have to load each one in the fpga first wouldn't you?
05:58 PM JT-Shop: aye, so the reason I don't have them all
05:59 PM Tom_L: how does he generate the pin files?
05:59 PM Tom_L: you can do an 'all' for the bit files but will xilinx generate pin files?
06:00 PM JT-Shop: I assume Peter just does a --readhmid
06:00 PM JT-Shop: I have no clue
06:00 PM Tom_L: we should ask him
06:00 PM Tom_L: :)
06:00 PM Tom_L: there may be an easier way
06:00 PM JT-Shop: you're the xilinx master :)
06:00 PM Tom_L: no i stumble thru it
06:00 PM Tom_L: but if it could make the pin file that would make it easier
06:01 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:01 PM Tom_L: i've never bothered with them
06:01 PM Tom_L: not even sure i've opened ne
06:01 PM Tom_L: one
06:01 PM JT-Shop: they can be handy if your trying to figure out which firmware to use
06:01 PM Tom_L: pcw-home, ?
06:02 PM JT-Shop: and now we have .bin files for the 7i96S
06:02 PM Tom_L: i should install webpack on this fresh buster install too
06:02 PM Tom_L: i can't help with that
06:02 PM Tom_L: i don't have their software
06:02 PM Tom_L: yet..
06:02 PM JT-Shop: ..
06:02 PM Tom_L: and i'm sure it's similar but different than webpack
06:03 PM Tom_L: if you can't generate them, it would be next to impossible to load every one for every board
06:05 PM JT-Shop: do you use from the command line --device 7i80hd_16
06:05 PM Tom_L: yes i do since he updated mesaflash
06:06 PM Tom_L: it doesn't recognize 7i80 now
06:06 PM JT-Shop: hmm the tool should work to read hmid
06:06 PM Tom_L: - not _
06:07 PM JT-Shop: what gets printed out in the machine window when you read hmid
06:08 PM Tom_L: one sec, i just closed it
06:08 PM JT-Shop: k
06:08 PM Tom_itx: Executing process mesaflash
06:08 PM Tom_itx: No 7I80HD_16 board found
06:08 PM Tom_itx: Process finished.
06:09 PM Tom_L: it may be the _ instead of -
06:09 PM Tom_L: brb
06:09 PM JT-Shop: that is usually a bad connection
06:09 PM JT-Shop: or an address issue
06:14 PM JT-Shop: I havn't tested the 7i80HD-25 since the last update so yup it might me _ vs -
06:14 PM JT-Shop: me be
06:15 PM Tom_L: i tested connect and address
06:15 PM JT-Shop: geez m and b are not even close on the keyboard LOL
06:15 PM Tom_L: 2 different cards
06:15 PM JT-Shop: and?
06:15 PM Tom_L: both are good
06:16 PM Tom_L: 7i92 works fine
06:16 PM Tom_L: and 7i80 works from a terminal but not the config utility
06:16 PM JT-Shop: what is the command you used for the 7i80?
06:17 PM Tom_L: since he updated mesaflash i had to add the 7i80HD-16 to it though
06:17 PM Tom_itx: mesaflash --device 7i80HD-16 --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid
06:17 PM JT-Shop: ok that's the issue then, fix and test that in the morning
06:17 PM JT-Shop: try 7i80hd-16 for me
06:17 PM Tom_itx: better check the whole lot that use a '-'
06:18 PM Tom_itx: try it where?
06:18 PM JT-Shop: only 4 use -
06:18 PM Tom_itx: just lower case in the terminal?
06:18 PM JT-Shop: mesaflash --device 7i80hd-16 --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid
06:18 PM JT-Shop: yea
06:18 PM Tom_itx: i'm sure it's fine but ok
06:18 PM JT-Shop: might be case agnostic dunno
06:19 PM Tom_itx: works fine
06:19 PM JT-Shop: thanks for testing for me
06:19 PM JT-Shop: fix in the morning
06:19 PM Tom_itx: i could give you my convolted custom pin file
06:19 PM Tom_itx: nobody else would have one
06:20 PM JT-Shop: did you make a custom .bit file?
06:20 PM Tom_itx: yes
06:20 PM Tom_itx: i needed every single pin i had available
06:20 PM Tom_itx: so i had to move a few things around
06:20 PM JT-Shop: I would need the .bit file as well to include it
06:20 PM Tom_itx: naw, it's too custom
06:21 PM Tom_itx: i don't mind sharing but nobody would use it
06:21 PM JT-Shop: ok, never mind then
06:21 PM Tom_itx: i've moved things around on it several times
06:21 PM JT-Shop: don't want to cornfuse newbees
06:21 PM Tom_itx: testing different boards etc
06:22 PM Tom_itx: at one point i had my limits on a 7i84? i think
06:22 PM Tom_itx: a sserial io board anyway
06:23 PM JT-Shop: time to wander inside and relax
06:34 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i think they can be automated
06:35 PM Tom_L: read /usr/share/doc/hostmot2-firmware-all/readme
06:37 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/drivers/hostmot2.html#_pin_files
06:38 PM Tom_L: that was likely back when you had to manually load bit files
06:45 PM JT-Shop: cool
06:45 PM Tom_L: but that's old info so newer webpack may not work the same
06:45 PM Tom_L: trying to figure out where to get the make file for it
06:47 PM Tom_L: if you look in those directories you will find some pin files already there
06:52 PM _unreal_: sigh. broke a tap
06:52 PM _unreal_: dont know how ether, I hardly started and it broke? brand new too
06:52 PM _unreal_: HATE 3mm
07:21 PM roycroft: cheap taps break easily
07:26 PM roycroft: and speaking of cheap stuff, i just received in the mail a lovely machinst's square from shars
07:26 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Shars-Square-1.jpeg
07:26 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Shars-Square-2.jpeg
07:26 PM roycroft: the wooden box was loose in the shipping box
07:26 PM roycroft: and the square was wrapped in a plastic bag inside the wooden box, but was not secured any further
07:27 PM roycroft: it's the grinding mark that bugs me though
07:28 PM Tom_L: it's pre broke in
07:30 PM roycroft: yeah, i guess
07:30 PM roycroft: i'll see how much shars want to refund for me to keep it
07:30 PM roycroft: if it's not substantial i'll just get a replacement
07:31 PM roycroft: or a full refund
07:31 PM roycroft: whatever works
07:31 PM roycroft: i don't expect starrett quality for a fraction of the cost of starrett, but i also don't expect grinder marks on what is supposed to be a precision instrument
07:53 PM Tom_L: pcw-home, is there a way to build the pin files from the vhd?
07:53 PM Tom_L: with the 'all' selected
07:53 PM ZincBoy[CAON]066: I really like forming taps for the small sizes. Hole size gets a bit more critical but they are much stronger and can give a better thread.
07:53 PM Tom_L: ahh i see it!
07:54 PM Tom_L: uncomment the pin line
07:54 PM roycroft: i use tap guides when hand tapping
07:55 PM roycroft: i do not break taps often
07:55 PM roycroft: but whenever i do, it's on a hole that's critical, and usually the last hole to tap on a part/job
07:55 PM roycroft: and almost always in a position where it
07:56 PM roycroft: is very difficult to remove the broken tap
07:56 PM Tom_L: pcw-home, can you generate just the pin file or do you have to syntheize the bit file first?
07:56 PM roycroft: i'm not much for minor catastrophes
07:56 PM Tom_L: i'm guessing the latter
07:56 PM roycroft: i prefer major catastrophes
07:56 PM roycroft: they keep life interesting
08:00 PM Tom_L: hmm maybe not..
08:08 PM pcw-home: The later, though you can get all the same information from the source ( mainly the pinout file )
08:08 PM Tom_L: i didn't find any pin files
08:08 PM Tom_L: i was trying to do it as a batch for jt
08:09 PM pcw-home: I mean the PINXXXX.vhd files (that determine the pinout and modules contained in a configuration)
08:09 PM Tom_L: ahh
08:10 PM Tom_L: how can you extract it to a human readable pin file for his utility?
08:11 PM pcw-home: Some Python or such I guess (might be easier to just program the device and run mesaflash)
08:12 PM Tom_L: i found an old readme that had a makefile to do it but that was probably back when you had to load the bit file from the config
08:12 PM Tom_L: /usr/share/doc/hostmot2-firmware-all/readme
08:14 PM pcw-home: I just run mesaflash:
08:15 PM pcw-home: bitfile=$1
08:15 PM pcw-home: mesaflash --device 7i92 --addr 10.10.10.10 --write $bitfile
08:15 PM pcw-home: echo reload
08:15 PM pcw-home: mesaflash --device 7i92 --addr 10.10.10.10 --reload
08:15 PM pcw-home: sleep 5
08:15 PM pcw-home: echo reload done
08:15 PM pcw-home: mesaflash --device 7i92 --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid > ${bitfile%.*}.pin
08:15 PM pcw-home: echo pin file created
08:15 PM pcw-home: (a little shell script)
08:16 PM Tom_L: ok
08:44 PM Tom_L: haha permission denied
08:44 PM Tom_L: in a script
08:56 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:02 PM Tom_L: ok fixed
10:33 PM * Thorhian7490[m] uploaded a video: (5063KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/FZMikERkygzmiyzgbPCAlOWE/IMG_5986.mov >
10:35 PM XXCoder: whats you fix
10:36 PM XXCoder: oops nm thought video was yours too tom lol
10:45 PM Tom_L: script
10:46 PM XXCoder: nice
10:46 PM Tom_L: i do very little bash stuff
11:11 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/17_First_Installed_Drawers_1.jpeg
11:11 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/18_First_Installed_Drawers_2.jpeg
11:11 PM XXCoder: very nice
11:12 PM roycroft: i won't be posting every day as install more - that would get tedious for me and everyone else
11:12 PM roycroft: but i'm happy to have started the installation
11:12 PM roycroft: i probably will not make the drawer fronts until the very end
11:29 PM t4nk_freenode: mmm, those are a _lot_ of sliders man, isn't that pricey?
11:29 PM roycroft: yes, it's costing me quite a bit
11:29 PM roycroft: i got a great deal on the drawer slides though
11:30 PM t4nk_freenode: I got a pair the other day, from the local hardware sotre
11:30 PM t4nk_freenode: store
11:30 PM t4nk_freenode: and they ripped me off
11:30 PM roycroft: they were about US$8.50/pair in quantity
11:30 PM roycroft: so a bit over $400 for all of them
11:31 PM t4nk_freenode: well, it makes for a good quality of course
11:31 PM roycroft: when it's all done it will be a huge improvement to my shop and my work flow
11:32 PM roycroft: i was going through my old cad drawings the other night and i found the first plans for those cabinets date back to 2009
11:32 PM roycroft: so it's been a while i've been wanting to build them
11:34 PM t4nk_freenode: I have an old cabinet here, with a large drawer on top, drawer is wood on wood ;) and when I put in some tools it became a nightmare
11:35 PM t4nk_freenode: then I used some candle-wax to make it better
11:35 PM t4nk_freenode: it's still doing fine even
11:47 PM roycroft: a little lube can do wonders
