01:55 AM Deejay: moin
02:05 AM t4nk_freenode: sorry Sir :(
02:07 AM Deejay: oh no, i did not mean that you should call me 'Sir'. it was meant for you, to show my respect...
02:08 AM t4nk_freenode: lol heeh
02:08 AM t4nk_freenode: I was gonna say "it won't happen again"
02:08 AM Deejay: lol
06:14 AM Tom_L: morning
06:31 AM JT-Cave: morning
10:21 AM Loetmichel: hmm... interesting. If one reigns oneself in and drives 90kph behind the semis instead of 200++kph the 60 liters of premium in the E46 318i last 800km++ instead of the usual 640km. Note to self: refuel that rust bucket tomorrow before work, i doubt there is left enoung to get me the 12km to work otherwise (fuel needle is already 2mm below zero) ;)
01:31 PM jepler1088[m]: and the cost of the ~4.8 extra hours of drive time compared to the extra ~15l of fuel if I did my math right?
01:45 PM Loetmichel: jepler1088[m]: well, i wasnt in a hurry
01:46 PM Loetmichel: and the 200kph may be a bit exaggerated. its not THAT often that you can drive that fast on todays Autobahns. Traffic jams, speed limits, road construction... you know, maybe 10% of my Autobahn time is spent above 200kph.
01:47 PM Loetmichel: still that uses a LOT more fuel than constant 90kph
01:47 PM Loetmichel: my usual average on an autobahn trip is more like 130 to 140kph
01:48 PM Loetmichel: aka 86mph
01:49 PM XXCoder: lol thats still quite rapid compared to here
01:49 PM XXCoder: I tend to go 75 mph on 70 mph freeways, and 65 on 60 mph ones
01:50 PM Loetmichel: on that account: do american semis have a "type speed limit" like the german ones?
01:51 PM Loetmichel: meaning: in germany semis above a certain tonnage are not allowed to drive faster than 80kph on autbahns and 60kph on rurual roads.
01:51 PM XXCoder: its hard limits
01:52 PM XXCoder: for all vehicles. some areas have lower for semis and such
01:52 PM Loetmichel: unlike cars that can drive as fast as they can if you see a (////) sign
01:52 PM XXCoder: like 70 for cars, and trucks 60 mph
01:52 PM Loetmichel: yeah, thats what i meant. different speed limits for trucks vs. cars
01:53 PM XXCoder: I think we only have one unlimited speed freeway
01:53 PM jepler1088[m]: yeah 140kph would be pretty much a maximum speed, with average speed quite a lot lower.
01:54 PM XXCoder: and theres always speed trap sections
01:54 PM Loetmichel: even if there is none for cars (seeing that sign: https://www.unfall-neubauer.de/media/k2/items/cache/15d43aef6c8a5134e1fc00a9c98b8ab0_L.jpg ) Trucks still cant drive faster than 80kph (reality is they drive 90)
01:54 PM Loetmichel: s/can/are not allowed to
01:54 PM XXCoder: I hate one spot on i5 where 3 line turns into 2, AND speed gets cut to 55 mph
01:55 PM XXCoder: or was it 60? been a while
01:55 PM XXCoder: anyway due to loss of speed AND lines, its jammed there all time
01:55 PM Loetmichel: side note: if you are driving on a german Autobahn and see said sign its "fun time starts" :)
01:56 PM Tom_L: how many do you see upside down there?
01:56 PM Loetmichel: and ALWAYS look in the back mirror before changing to the left lane. there is ALWAYS someone faster than you, regardless of what you are driving
01:56 PM Loetmichel: Tom_L: upside down?
01:56 PM Tom_L: lose control
01:57 PM Loetmichel: not that many
01:57 PM Loetmichel: germans are used to high speed OR stay off the leftmost lane for the most part.
01:58 PM XXCoder: lol usa leftmost is high speed line
01:58 PM Loetmichel: most people i know that drive long range here are quite comfortable talking with you while driving at 200+kph.
01:58 PM Loetmichel: XXCoder: same here, that was the point
01:59 PM Tom_L: probably half don't adhere to it though
01:59 PM Loetmichel: Tom_L: over here its REALLY expensive to get caught overtaking on the right, so most people adhere to the rule to only overtake on the left lane
02:00 PM Loetmichel: and go back to the "more right" lanes afterwards
02:01 PM Loetmichel: actually thats a rule in the german traffic law: "rechtsfahrgebot", meaning you HAVE to drive on the right lane if its free. IIRC you have to go back to the rightmost lane after overtaking a truck or something if the gap to the next vehicle on the rightmost lane would take you longer than 20 sec to cross
02:01 PM Loetmichel: even if you drive 250kph :)
02:02 PM XXCoder: I HATE slow passers
02:02 PM Tom_L: will yours make it to that?
02:02 PM Loetmichel: (the IIRC is for the 20 sec, cant remember the correct time, but it was in that general area)
02:02 PM XXCoder: one car passing truck at 1 mph faster
02:02 PM Tom_L: (without floating the valves etc)
02:02 PM Loetmichel: nah, i only drive a BMW E46 318i at the moment, it caps at about 230kph
02:03 PM Loetmichel: i do 230 regularily though
02:04 PM Loetmichel: XXCoder: even worse is "Elefantenrennen" (Elephant race) when a 40 ton semi tries to overtake another 40 ton semi /both with 90kph limiters)...
02:04 PM Loetmichel: especially annoying on a 2 lane autobahn
02:04 PM XXCoder: yup
02:06 PM Loetmichel: Tom_L: i can tell you that some idiot pulling out between two semis at 90kph to overtake without looking in the rearview mirror DOES happen occasionally though
02:07 PM Tom_L: i bet he has a butt puckering moment
02:08 PM Loetmichel: I nearly pissed my pants. Back then i had a 2.1 (metric) ton Opel Omega... flying in at nearly 240kph... painted about 80m dotted black strips on the tarmac and could see my front brake discs glow reflecting of the street at night.
02:08 PM Loetmichel: <- learned the hard way to NOT drive that fast on a two lane stretch of highway
02:09 PM Loetmichel: had maybe a couple yards left when i was down to the idiots speed
02:09 PM XXCoder: probably got brown chair seats now
02:09 PM XXCoder: and added 2 colors tints to pant
02:09 PM Loetmichel: nah, was close though
02:10 PM XXCoder: lol talking about guy whos pulling out between 2 semis without checking :D
02:10 PM Loetmichel: I can make the assertion that the ABS works as intended though. :)
02:10 PM XXCoder: abs is nice to have indeed
02:10 PM Loetmichel: ah, i dont think that elderly woman even registered my (and eventually her) plight
02:14 PM Loetmichel: I have to say that the BMW makes it easier though. Especially at night. People recognize the double "angel eyes" in the rearview mirrow and tend to wait until i pass before pulling out.
02:14 PM Loetmichel: (BMWs are known to drive FAST, as are the drivers)
02:14 PM Loetmichel: Opels not so much
02:54 PM Tom_L: never had so much trouble installing preempt-rt...
02:56 PM Tom_L: finally...
02:56 PM travis_farmer853: why so much trouble?
02:57 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure but i think it was because i was choosing an older preempt-rt
02:59 PM travis_farmer853: i know when i installed, i had to make notes of how i did it, so if i had to re-do an install, i had everything before me.
02:59 PM travis_farmer853: course, the notes were on my website forum... that is down due to my crappy internet 🤣
03:02 PM Tom_L: now it's not letting me add repositories..
03:03 PM travis_farmer853: dumb question... you are under root (su)? 😉
03:03 PM Tom_L: synaptic package manager
03:03 PM Tom_L: or i would be su
03:04 PM travis_farmer853: lol, just checking
03:04 PM Tom_L: i've installed it before several times
03:04 PM travis_farmer853: my notes that worked for me:
03:04 PM travis_farmer853: https://www.tjfhome.net/community/index.php?threads/how-i-installed-my-linuxcnc.19/
03:04 PM travis_farmer853: (While my internet still functions 😉 )
03:04 PM Tom_L: i had been testing a kernel and want to put a clean install back but it's giving me fits today
03:05 PM Tom_L: jt has a good one too
03:05 PM travis_farmer853: i figured you have installed it, but was trying to offer some help just the same
03:06 PM Tom_L: appreciat it
03:06 PM Tom_L: e
03:10 PM travis_farmer853: let me know if i can get in the way at all 😉
03:16 PM Tom_L: need to add the key to the keyserver but i'm not sure what the key is
03:16 PM Tom_L: the one from buildbot must be old?
03:17 PM travis_farmer853: it isn't `EF1B07FEE0EE663E` anymore?
03:17 PM _unreal_: at this point I'd say my CAD drawing is more or less done for the z setup
03:18 PM Tom_L: that's the one i used
03:18 PM travis_farmer853: from `keyserver.ubuntu.com` ?
03:18 PM Tom_L: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/
03:18 PM Tom_L: openpgp
03:19 PM Tom_L: it accepted it i think
03:19 PM Tom_L: contained no user id
03:19 PM Tom_L: skipped
03:19 PM travis_farmer853: i had to pull from `keyserver.ubuntu.com` to get it to work
03:22 PM Tom_L: that's better
03:23 PM _unreal_: finally https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PAgv2L3UJL2gOle35AczsBejKtVXsq5d?usp=sharing
03:23 PM _unreal_: photos
03:25 PM _unreal_: those are a few photos of my CAD drawings for the new Z for the new cnc machine I'm building
03:25 PM Tom_L: now wading thru dependency hell
03:25 PM _unreal_: no major building yet
03:28 PM _unreal_: The only thing I have not added is the holes for the backside for the locking system for the z brush axis. but I'm not sure if I want to use wire or timing belt
03:29 PM _unreal_: in the end it does not matter. BUT my goal is to be able to lock it at SET heights
03:29 PM _unreal_: and to have a signal system to let me know if the lock is on or off. so that I know if its connected to the Z that the lock is on or off so I dont cause damage.
03:39 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:53 PM _unreal_: drilling my final holes
03:53 PM _unreal_: next milling job is cutting off the top/bottoms
03:54 PM _unreal_: and i can finally pull my xz carriage plate and flip it. "level" the x carriage bearing pads at the back of the plate.
03:54 PM _unreal_: then its "DONE" and I can start milling other parts
04:01 PM Tom_L: ok i think i made it
04:02 PM travis_farmer853: here i thought you had drowned in deps 😉
04:04 PM Tom_L: something odd though, one of the updates along the way wanted to remove the current kernel :)
04:05 PM travis_farmer853: the kernel you were trying to test?
04:05 PM _unreal_: travis_farmer853, just call him "johny" ;)
04:06 PM Tom_L: no the preempt-rt i'd just installed
04:06 PM travis_farmer853: odd
04:06 PM _unreal_: sweet almost done drilling holes
04:06 PM Tom_L: it's quite a bit newer than the install script or something silly like htat
04:06 PM _unreal_: next switching bits and milling the end off
04:06 PM Tom_L: it's just a test pc anyway
04:07 PM Tom_L: but i'd botched a RTAI and it wouldn't let me fix it
04:09 PM Tom_L: i would have used the iso but i like mate and it uses xfce
04:10 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:10 PM Tom_itx: 4.19.0-20-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 4.19.235-1 (2022-03-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux
04:12 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you should update your dirctions for the key server to keyserver.ubuntu.com the other one doesn't work
04:13 PM Tom_L: on the debian 10 install page
04:13 PM Tom_L: err install LinuxCNC page
04:19 PM _unreal_: and cutting off the bottom finally
04:20 PM _unreal_: now its starting to feel like a real project
04:21 PM _unreal_: cant wait. i'm also very torn on which controller to use with this. I dont know if I want to use the mesa controller or my new planetcnc controller
04:21 PM Tom_L: do you have a mesa card?
04:22 PM Tom_L: if you don't you may not get one
04:23 PM _unreal_: heh yes I have a mesa
04:23 PM _unreal_: I have a 7i96
04:23 PM Tom_L: ok
04:23 PM _unreal_: remember helping me with the setup last year
04:23 PM _unreal_: its still all setup
04:23 PM Tom_L: i've slept since then
04:23 PM _unreal_: .....
04:24 PM _unreal_: I knew you were a beauty
04:24 PM _unreal_: did you look at the photo links?
04:24 PM _unreal_: link
04:24 PM Tom_L: no i've been doing an install
04:24 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PAgv2L3UJL2gOle35AczsBejKtVXsq5d?usp=sharing
04:25 PM _unreal_: if you do get to looking at it. its some shots of my cad work on my new Z setup for the mahcine
04:59 PM _unreal_: sweet, next pass the end falls off
05:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/cnc-parts/z-axis-slider-7-travel
05:08 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:13 PM _unreal_: now doing my cut off top first pass
05:13 PM _unreal_: taking it down to paper thin
05:13 PM _unreal_: then hand braking it off so I dont carve up my g10 base on my cnc machine mini cnc machine :/ already put a good carve in it few months ago
05:13 PM _unreal_: blew my mind
05:21 PM _unreal_: I guess I'm the only one milling tonight
05:21 PM _unreal_: I wonder if I'm the only one coors'ing it as well ;)
05:31 PM _unreal_: even t4nk_freenode is quiet... ODD
05:58 PM t4nk_freenode: no, for those speaking never know.
05:58 PM t4nk_freenode: no exceptions
06:01 PM t4nk_freenode: but uhm.. I need to print a few more small contraptions of sorts to hold a few things in place
06:01 PM t4nk_freenode: and then I should be ready to test drive my new machine
06:02 PM t4nk_freenode: I'm not too happy with the bottom plywood plate though
06:03 PM t4nk_freenode: it seems flimsy and flexible
06:03 PM t4nk_freenode: seems like the former mdf plate was much more ridgid
06:03 PM t4nk_freenode: might put that back
06:10 PM _unreal_: amazing, the glued tape leg go AS my milling job just finished the LAST cut
06:10 PM _unreal_: just amazing
06:13 PM _unreal_: I need only sand the edges at this point and do a bunch of hand drilling to finish the holes :(
06:13 PM _unreal_: no choice
06:13 PM _unreal_: didnt want to cut into the work bed of my cnc
06:13 PM _unreal_: and tap a milling holes UGH
06:14 PM _unreal_: million
06:14 PM _unreal_: lot of 3mm tapping
06:14 PM _unreal_: ugh still pouring out
06:14 PM _unreal_: and I'm running low on time to return my red box
06:14 PM t4nk_freenode: but then the exciting stuff is up, as I gathered... the controller :))
06:14 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:14 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PAgv2L3UJL2gOle35AczsBejKtVXsq5d?usp=sharing
06:14 PM t4nk_freenode: better get some bags of potato-chips bought here
06:14 PM _unreal_: thats the finished Z design
06:15 PM _unreal_: I've already made the Y arms
06:15 PM _unreal_: the only part for z I have cut so far is the MAIN xz carriage plate
06:15 PM _unreal_: that everything mounts too
06:16 PM _unreal_: not sure what I want to cut next
06:17 PM t4nk_freenode: the cr*p?
06:17 PM t4nk_freenode: :b
06:17 PM _unreal_: ?
06:19 PM _unreal_: ya got to give me a little more to go on then that
06:19 PM _unreal_: I'm not sure if I want to work on the spindle Z mount next
06:20 PM t4nk_freenode: more than! not more then!
06:20 PM _unreal_: or the TOP mount for the main xz frame to mount the z stepper/lead screw
06:20 PM t4nk_freenode: more then is for more ons
06:20 PM _unreal_: durr....
06:20 PM _unreal_: what you getting at bub
06:21 PM _unreal_: ok I give up waiting, I'm going to the store and returning the movie and maybe picking up a thing or tooo
06:22 PM t4nk_freenode: okidoki buddy
06:45 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:15 PM Rab: pcw-home, CaptHindsight[m], thanks for answers and tips re: 7i77!
07:48 PM _unreal_: so someone put out a beer keg tonight
07:49 PM _unreal_: one of those 3' tall one's and about 1/4 full
07:49 PM _unreal_: dont know what I'm going to do with it yet.
07:49 PM _unreal_: could make a grill, could make a pizza oven, could do more home brewing
07:49 PM _unreal_: OPTIONS
07:49 PM _unreal_: boy have I got optoins :)
07:51 PM _unreal_: so.. my next play, flip that plate over lock it down and prep for flattening the backside for the 5 locations, the four carriage bearings locations and the mgn7 mm rail for the brush shoe axis back side
08:22 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, make a parts tumber with it
08:42 PM _unreal_: blaa just changed my back Y bearing on the little cnc
08:42 PM _unreal_: was starting to get clicky
08:42 PM _unreal_: some day I need to redo them to real thrust bearings
08:43 PM _unreal_: oddly enough the y bearings are the one's that really go bad the most
09:02 PM _unreal_: sigh back to silence
09:03 PM _unreal_: well back to the next milling job. flattening the pads. and taking a drill bit to all of the holes to open them all the way.
09:03 PM _unreal_: just have to probe align the work part
09:43 PM _unreal_: flattening like a mofo
09:49 PM roycroft: i finished the joinery on my drawers today
09:49 PM roycroft: depending on the weather, i may be able to assemble the first batch of them tomorrow
09:50 PM roycroft: if the humidity is still 140% tomorrow that's not likely
10:18 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/12_Box_Joint_Setup_1.jpeg
10:18 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/13_Box_Joint_Setup_2.jpeg
10:18 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/14_Drawer_Sides_Machined_1.jpeg
10:18 PM XXCoder: nice fog
10:19 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/15_Drawer_Sides_Machined_2.jpeg
10:19 PM XXCoder: nice work indeed
10:19 PM roycroft: i'm making progress
10:46 PM Tom_L: well they're either all right or all wrong :)
10:46 PM Tom_L: quite the pile of wood there
11:00 PM roycroft: i dry fitted one of each size drawer together
11:00 PM roycroft: they will be ok
11:01 PM XXCoder: would be sad if they was all 85 degrees ;)
