12:06 AM _unreal_: yawn
01:54 AM Deejay: moin
01:58 AM randy: morning
02:02 AM pere: I am very impressed how many translations are more than 70% done on <URL: https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/linuxcnc/linuxcnc/#translations > :)
02:03 AM travis_farmer853: G'Morning All ☕
02:30 AM XXCoder: hi
03:28 AM Loetmichel: ROTFL... Co-worker (EE engineer) just asked me: "Hey, Loet, i have set up the PC, the KVM switch and a Video projector in the measurement chamber, everything has power and is running but the projector says "no signal". What am i doing wrong?" $me walks into the measurement chamber, presses "2" at the KVM, "So, now you have video, too", turns around and walks out grinning. :)
03:30 AM XXCoder: lol
03:31 AM Loetmichel: To his credit: that switch is odd. the inputs at the back are exactly the other way around to the buttons on the front. Left button selects right input and vice versa
03:32 AM XXCoder: thats weird
04:49 AM Tom_L: morning
05:06 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:07 AM Tom_L: rain today
05:28 AM JT-Cave: we get that tomorrow
07:16 AM srk| is now known as srk
08:51 AM robert1 is now known as rmu
11:42 AM roguish[m]: good morning.... going into the mid 90's here today.
12:27 PM roycroft: overcast but warm here today - it should get up to about 23
12:30 PM XXCoder: icy cold
12:46 PM roycroft: the forecast for the end of the week has changed too - no rain until saturday
01:48 PM unterhaus: I could do without any rain for about a week
01:48 PM unterhaus: no luck, rain forecast friday, saturday and sunday
01:52 PM XXCoder: still thurs rain here, but heavier than predicted rain before
02:18 PM Thorhian: So I'm using the axis UI at the moment. I want to turn my Z-motor brake off when I hit the power button via a relay. What pin should I be looking for to get the state of whether linuxcnc say's the machine is "on"?
02:21 PM travis_farmer853: i connect my z-motor brake to the enable pin for my stepper driver, via a relay. i think i had to invert the signal, but i don't remember.
02:24 PM Tom_L: yeah, send that to a GPIO pin to your relay
02:24 PM Tom_L: invert it if needed
02:25 PM Tom_L: OR
02:25 PM Thorhian: Why? Also, I don't use enable pins with my stepper drivers.
02:25 PM Tom_L: net spindle_brake spindle.0.brake => hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.gpio.016.out
02:25 PM Tom_L: that should do it
02:26 PM Thorhian: Lol, that's something I'd like to keep for my Spindle servo motor
02:26 PM Tom_L: what lcnc version?
02:26 PM Thorhian: 2.8 current.
02:26 PM Tom_L: oh i misread that...
02:26 PM Tom_L: but it would be similar
02:27 PM Tom_L: use the enable line of that axis
02:27 PM Thorhian: When does that enable line get activated? When you hit the power button?
02:27 PM Tom_L: i ask because prior to 2.8 it would have been motion.spindle.xxxxx
02:28 PM Tom_L: watch it in hal show pin
02:28 PM Tom_L: then you will know it's behavior
02:28 PM Tom_L: but i think so
02:28 PM Tom_L: i may have mine tied to the power signal... i forget it's name off hand
02:28 PM Thorhian: I just wish it was a bit easier to discover all of the lines available lol...
02:29 PM Tom_L: net emcmot.00.enable <= joint.0.amp-enable-out
02:29 PM Tom_L: net emcmot.00.enable => hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.stepgen.00.enable
02:29 PM travis_farmer853: use the HAL watch utility
02:29 PM Tom_L: those are 2 you can look at
02:30 PM Tom_L: same thing really just broken up into axis and joint
02:41 PM miss0r: it would seem, apparently, that getting my hands on a 1:10 hand reamer with one day notice is impossible 'round these parts *sigh*
02:43 PM miss0r: not helped by the fact, that theres apparently an RC car called "rival" (which both has an english meaning, but in danish means reamer) that is sold a million places, most popular in the size 1:10....
02:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hah
02:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: poisoned search well
02:49 PM miss0r: yes
02:49 PM Thorhian: Tom_L: It looks like amp-enable-out is toggled by the software estop. I need power-on to enable the brake, not the estop.
02:49 PM miss0r: Another issue is that many of the ones that might have one does not exactly have their entire catalogue online. So that is not helping my efford of who to call tomorrow
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Loetmichel: these is a co in Florida hiring people to do what you for $200/hr
02:51 PM travis_farmer853: Hmm, i could use $200/hr... but i don't want to live in Florida...
02:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yeah, what everyone says :)
02:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's a contract until Oct
02:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: search for EMI tester in Palm Beach FL
02:52 PM XXCoder: 200 a hour job till oct. im sure some would be... willing... to live at fla for that. short term
02:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: very likely it's for Harris
02:53 PM Thorhian: I mean, Florida is just far away and too hot for me. What else is wrong with florida?
02:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's loaded with culture :)
02:53 PM miss0r: "culture"
02:53 PM Thorhian: XD
02:53 PM travis_farmer853: i don't like the politics there, but i will leave it at that.
02:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: they have a Hooters every mile
02:54 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight[m]: Thats one of the more favorable parts of said "culture"
02:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I think FL law requires them 1:10K people
02:54 PM travis_farmer853: i have hooters on my lady friend 😛
02:54 PM roguish[m]: Thorhian: there is a 'machine-on' signal that you can use
02:55 PM miss0r: A good way to pass a few minuts every day, to marvel at the general stupidity of the human race, is just to google "florida man" and see all the resent reports :)
02:55 PM Thorhian: Lol, Florida Man.
02:55 PM roguish[m]: miss0r: you're being tooo nice
02:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sorry Palm Bay, FL
02:56 PM miss0r: am I :) I did not realy intend to
02:56 PM Thorhian: If it came down to a choice between California and Florida, I'd be hard pressed either way lol.
02:56 PM miss0r: Honnestly theres not alot of places in the US I would feel at home. But that is mostly because I am on the other side of the pond
02:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CA gas redeeming features
02:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: FL just has airports and roads that lead out
02:57 PM travis_farmer853: i will stick with Maine, as i am already there 😉
02:58 PM Thorhian: I grew up in CA Cap, I think I will stay away except for visits for the forseeable future.
02:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: what part?
02:58 PM miss0r: "Florida man in "Who needs drugs?! - No, Seriously, I Have Drugs"-T-shirt arrested for possession of drugs" :D
02:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'll trade you my childhood in Chicago
02:58 PM Thorhian: Northern, but southern and bay area are what I to be the worst about the state. Also, Chicago lol
02:59 PM roycroft: aah, i got the rest of my drawer bottoms cut to final dimensions at lunch today
02:59 PM roycroft: i only ran over my lunch break by 5 minutes
03:00 PM roguish[m]: check out our gas prices here in the Bay Area....
03:00 PM * roguish[m] uploaded an image: (200KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/MmnSpuuWtaEifzzRBthvyryi/20220517_102557.jpg >
03:00 PM Thorhian: That's a yikes from me lol
03:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: capitalism
03:01 PM Thorhian: roguish[m]: What is that signal under, the machine-on signal you refered to?
03:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: there has always been plenty of oil
03:01 PM roycroft: more like opecism
03:01 PM XXCoder: ow. theres spots where gas is higher than minium wage, for gallon now
03:01 PM roycroft: cartels are not capitalistic
03:01 PM roycroft: by definition
03:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I blame fricken stupid people
03:02 PM roguish[m]: in this calendar year, so far, my house has increased in market price by more than I paid for it in '98
03:02 PM roycroft: i'd sell it now if selling if i were going to sell
03:03 PM roycroft: once interest rates climb a bit more, housing prices will go down quite a bit
03:03 PM ziper2: people buy SUVs and complain about expensive gas
03:03 PM roycroft: no
03:03 PM roycroft: you have that wrong
03:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: well you have to make back the profits lost during the Covid shutdowns
03:04 PM ziper2: ford doesn't even make a car anymore
03:04 PM roycroft: people buy suvs to stick it to the government, and then complain abut the government driving the price of fuel up
03:04 PM roguish[m]: can't really comment on the rest of the country, and world, but here in northern california, Bay Area, people are absolutely spoiled rotten. want and are entiltled to everything, don't want to pay for anything. and total NIMBIES
03:04 PM roycroft: it's kind of a generational thing, roguish
03:05 PM roycroft: more than a geographical thing
03:05 PM roycroft: anyway
03:05 PM roguish[m]: maybe so....
03:05 PM roycroft: i'll just keep making parts, and trying to set a good example of the benefits of working hard
03:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the stupid are easily exploited, so don't expect that flow of stupid people to stop anytime soon
03:06 PM roguish[m]: so much for the soap box today.............
03:07 PM roycroft: "i love the poorly educated"
03:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: expect more stupid things in the future
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: bet on stupid to win
03:08 PM roycroft: entropy matters
03:09 PM roguish[m]: stupidity is the only truly universal capital crime. usually self-fulfilling
03:09 PM Thorhian: NGL, you guys seem kind of... pessimistic whenever I come on here lol.
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: nah
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just honest
03:10 PM roguish[m]: just on a role today.............
03:10 PM Thorhian: I mean, I didn't say you weren't being honest Capt.
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hopes and dreams
03:10 PM roguish[m]: but we're really helpful with Linuxcnc
03:10 PM roycroft: i'm pretty optimistic
03:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: reality, what a concept
03:11 PM roycroft: yes, i point out things that are wrong with the universe
03:11 PM roycroft: but i believe we can overcome them
03:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: maybe in the 23rd century
03:12 PM ziper2: I think I will send my horizontal mills to the scrapyard
03:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: after the stupid wars
03:12 PM ziper2: the roof that was over them collapsed and they got all rusty
03:12 PM ziper2: steel is up I heard
03:12 PM XXCoder: ziper that sucks. though wonder if can sell scrap steel and sell spare parts
03:12 PM roycroft: civilization has been working on its problems for 5,000 years so far on this planet
03:12 PM roycroft: what's another century or two?
03:12 PM XXCoder: expecially if its hard mill to get parts for
03:13 PM ziper2: the machines were practically worthless anyway... I got them at auction for like 100 bucks a piece
03:13 PM Thorhian: Dang
03:13 PM ziper2: I was going to try to make 1 machine of the 3, but never got around to it
03:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: depends on how long you are willing to post the parts on ebay
03:14 PM roycroft: when i was cutting out drawer bottoms, i found another slight problem with my design
03:14 PM roycroft: i have to adjust the depth of the drawers, subtracting 1/8"
03:15 PM * roycroft hopes that his dimensions table in sw works as advertised, so that when he makes the adjustment to the variable values the models and assemblies will automagically update themselves properly
03:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq2K1g1qecU his charts lie
03:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not sure why he had to, but I guess he just wanted to make the tech look better
03:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://youtu.be/vq2K1g1qecU?t=1771 this chart
03:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: LCNC can be used to control the mechanisms and lasers used for 2-photon polymerization
03:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: but the lasers required are very expensive
03:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: electrostatic printheads are depositing in the sub-micron range as well, and as fast or faster than 2pp
03:23 PM * xxcoder8265[m] uploaded an image: (551KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/EkCqOsUyekuzAmidVjUWeYHc/unknown.png >
03:23 PM xxcoder8265[m]: lol
03:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: nice gaga gift
03:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: gag even
03:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: also https://www.nature.com/articles/micronano201529
04:35 PM JT-Shop: well my pm 15hh is now pushed back to June 10th
05:01 PM Tom_L: Thorhian, net estop-loopout hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.gpio.029.out iocontrol.0.emc-enable-in <= estop-latch.0.ok-out
05:01 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:01 PM Tom_L: iocontrol has the input for estop
05:01 PM Tom_L: that in turn passes to those ^^ enable signals
05:03 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, that your 3 wheeler?
05:06 PM Tom_L: pretty sure gas has reached an all time high here
05:06 PM Tom_L: not as bad as the rest of the nation but comparatively high
05:12 PM Tom_L: Thorhian, http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/iov2.html
05:16 PM JT-Shop2: Tom_L: https://www.toolnut.com/powermatic-1791213-15hh-planer-3hp-1ph-230v-no-dro.html
05:16 PM Tom_L: bigger than the one you have?
05:17 PM JT-Shop2: same size as the Delta X15 I have now but better design
05:17 PM JT-Shop2: and I'm tired of putzing with the Delta
05:17 PM Tom_L: i see
05:17 PM Tom_L: adding the DRO?
05:18 PM JT-Shop2: got the DRO right here on this table LOL
05:18 PM Tom_L: mkay
05:18 PM JT-Shop2: ordered them together
05:18 PM Tom_L: new or from the other one?
05:19 PM * Tom_L figures jt had a yard stick duct taped to the old one
05:19 PM JT-Shop2: https://www.toolnut.com/jet-708520-jwp-dro-digital-readout-for-15-20-planers.html
05:19 PM Tom_L: yes i saw the DRO
05:19 PM JT-Shop2: I have a Wixley on the Delta and it was an interesting project
05:20 PM JT-Shop2: https://gnipsel.com/images/wood-working/delta-planer/delta-01.jpg
05:20 PM Tom_L: trying to find the detail docs on the emcmot comp
05:21 PM JT-Shop2: https://gnipsel.com/images/wood-working/delta-planer/delta-02.jpg
05:21 PM Tom_L: server down
05:21 PM JT-Shop2: prob only a man page
05:21 PM Tom_L: k
05:21 PM Tom_L: the docs are a bit light on it
05:21 PM JT-Shop2: what's Thorhian needing?
05:22 PM Tom_L: enable on an axis amp i think
05:22 PM Tom_L: oh...
05:22 PM JT-Shop2: using a Mesa card?
05:22 PM Tom_L: release the Z brake
05:22 PM Tom_L: on an axis motor
05:23 PM Tom_L: i don't know about the card but i would assume so
05:23 PM Tom_L: emcmot has an enable he can use
05:23 PM Tom_L: net emcmot.00.enable <= joint.0.amp-enable-out
05:24 PM Tom_L: i guess it originates from joint.0.
05:24 PM JT-Shop2: joint.N.unlock OUT BIT
05:24 PM Tom_L: probably better yet
05:24 PM Tom_L: several ways to do it
05:24 PM JT-Shop2: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/motion.9.html
05:24 PM JT-Shop2: yep any enable to the joint can release the brake
05:27 PM Tom_L: joint.n.amp-enable-out should work along side joint.n.unlock
05:29 PM JT-Shop2: I can't even look on this pc it has 2.7.10
05:29 PM Tom_L: heh
05:29 PM Tom_L: quite a few changes since that
05:32 PM Tom_L: probably either one of those 2 would work but the .unlock sounds more correct
05:33 PM JT-Shop2: I need to upgrade this pc or build one with debian 10 so I can view my IP cameras
05:34 PM Tom_L: 15 dead in texax elementary shooting just now
05:34 PM JT-Shop2: damn
05:35 PM Tom_L: 1 teacher the rest students
05:35 PM JT-Shop2: where in texas?
05:35 PM Tom_L: google cnn texas elementary shooting
05:35 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure
05:36 PM Tom_L: Uvalde
06:10 PM _unreal_: so I just got a KSR-117XX
06:10 PM _unreal_: DONT KNOW anything about it yet, condition anything...
06:10 PM _unreal_: an other dumpster find
06:12 PM Tom_L: there's that 'florida man'
06:12 PM Tom_L: :)
06:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzLuX86kJZQ
06:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: might have to make a CNC version
06:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: might be more of a glass printing and forming lathe
08:53 PM roycroft: i got my other panels broken down today, so now i don't care if it rains
08:53 PM roycroft: and i got that done a day early, so i'm starting to make up time
08:54 PM XXCoder: nice
08:56 PM roycroft: yeah, i am happy
08:56 PM roycroft: i have to leave for a concert in a few minutes, otherwise i'd spend a couple more hours sanding tonight, and maybe even get start on applying shellac to the drawer bottoms
09:20 PM t4nk_freenode: _unreal_, .... look man, you got yourself something there that is really still used a lot today, I mean, if it's really a KSR-117XX
09:25 PM t4nk_freenode: a lot of people pick it up
09:25 PM t4nk_freenode: actually
09:25 PM t4nk_freenode: .... and throw it straight into the dumpster :b
09:36 PM _unreal_: ?
09:36 PM _unreal_: not sure I follow
09:38 PM _unreal_: roycroft, I've more or less designed my hide away dust shoe system
09:38 PM _unreal_: if it works as designed it should be amazing
09:40 PM _unreal_: I have a simple setup that will allow me to flip a pin to choose between having it be driven by the Z or driven by its own stepper
09:40 PM _unreal_: roycroft, the design is simple. I'm using MGN7 rails mounted behind the main xz CARRIAGE body
09:41 PM _unreal_: a single bar .5" by 2" will be mounted to the cars
09:42 PM _unreal_: and at the bottom it will have a simple system for mounting the shoe.
09:42 PM _unreal_: I believe most of the time it is going to be setup to just follow Z
