02:03 AM Deejay: moin
03:16 AM travis_farmer853: G'Morning ☕
03:16 AM XXCoder: yo
03:58 AM randy: morning
05:06 AM Tom_L: morning
05:58 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:08 AM JT-Cave: a package to CA took a side trip to HY
11:20 AM roguish[m]: JT-Cave: what, where is 'HY' ???
02:50 PM silopolis[m]: Evening folks
02:50 PM XXCoder: yo
02:51 PM silopolis[m]: Question about probing... Are there cycles/macros available behind fancy probing screens that could be programmed by hand or CAM?
02:52 PM silopolis[m]: XXCoder: Howdy?
02:53 PM XXCoder: whats up
02:55 PM roycroft: hello
03:05 PM roycroft: i have a new rendering of my cabinet assembly, with the additional drawers:
03:05 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Cabinets/02_Hardware-Systainer_Cabinets.jpeg
03:06 PM roycroft: that will be the final, final version, as i'm going to start breaking down plywood to make the drawers after work today
03:06 PM roycroft: so no more changes are possible without incurring a significant cost
03:07 PM roycroft: i already came up a bit short on 12mm plywood for my drawer sides, but at lunch today i sorted though my scrap pile, and i've found just enough to get it done
03:08 PM silopolis[m]: <XXCoder> "whats up" <- Still head down in docs
03:10 PM XXCoder: roycroft: truly final design - revisioned? ;) kidding
03:10 PM XXCoder: nice work so far roy
03:11 PM travis_farmer853: can i order one from you? do you take food stamps? 😉
03:11 PM XXCoder: silopolis[m]: not sure what you mean
03:16 PM Tom_L: silopolis[m], http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/cradek/
03:18 PM Tom_L: roycroft, that's an excessive amount of drawers!
03:20 PM XXCoder: excessive is always better than not enough
03:29 PM roycroft: it is exactly the correct amount of drawers :)
03:29 PM Tom_L: i doubt it
03:29 PM Tom_L: you get done you will need ONE more
03:29 PM roycroft: with future growth needs anticipated
03:30 PM Tom_L: i just wish i still had my kennedy box for tooling
03:30 PM roycroft: it's all modular, though, so should things change in the future i can change the configuration
03:30 PM roycroft: i have a kennedy stack
03:30 PM roycroft: i did not get the standard middle drawer unit for i though - instead i got a riser
03:31 PM roycroft: which has worked out very nicely
03:31 PM roycroft: i was originally going to get a 3 drawer intermediate cabinet for storing my files and rasps, but ended up storing those in another roll-around tool cart
03:32 PM roycroft: that cart just moved out to the fabrication shop, though, and that's a long way to go to grab a file, so one of the new drawers in the cabinets i'm building will be for files and rasps
03:39 PM silopolis[m]: <XXCoder> "silopolis: not sure what you..." <- About? Probing or docs?
03:39 PM XXCoder: docs
03:39 PM Tom_L: silopolis[m], you see those probe routines?
03:42 PM silopolis[m]: <Tom_L> "silopolis, http://tom-itx.no-ip..." <- Not sure what I'm looking at 🤔
03:42 PM silopolis[m]: Could look like probing macros but missing a little context and comments about usage and parameters
03:43 PM Tom_L: look in the lcnc docs under gcode
03:44 PM Tom_L: the names do as they imply...
03:44 PM Tom_L: probe back
03:44 PM Tom_L: front, hole, left, right... you get the idea
03:44 PM JT-Shop2: silopolis0866[m]: probing cycles are just g code
03:45 PM Tom_L: sprinkled with magic dust
03:46 PM JT-Shop2: cradek: did the magic dust years ago :)
03:46 PM Tom_L: not sure they're posted anywhere else that i know of
03:46 PM silopolis[m]: Tom_L: Will do
03:47 PM Tom_L: you may need a little preamble code to get the probe close to the target edge
03:48 PM Tom_L: but you can certainly expand on those primitives
03:52 PM silopolis[m]: Sure! That's a good start thanks
03:54 PM roguish[m]: well, just about finished with my sheetrock repairing.....I hate sheetrocking.
04:01 PM silopolis[m]: <XXCoder> "docs" <- After work for po4a migration, I'm reformating qtvcp docs we somehow broke in the process
04:01 PM XXCoder: ahh thats cool
04:02 PM JT-Shop: silopolis[m], https://github.com/jethornton/mill_touch_v6/tree/master/config/subroutines
04:03 PM JT-Shop: that's the probe routines I use maybe a bit less terse than the original ones
04:04 PM silopolis[m]: XXCoder: Doing my best, hope that yall like it...
04:04 PM roguish[m]: ya know JT. that's still a nice, clean, simple gui..........
04:05 PM JT-Shop: thanks, I just make parts with it not going to drag my mill to a beauty contest
04:06 PM XXCoder: lol
04:06 PM roguish[m]: can you add your gcdoe generators? drilling, tapping, etc.....
04:06 PM * JT-Shop ponders the coon lock door chain... not liking the first idea
04:06 PM JT-Shop: to mill touch 6?
04:07 PM roguish[m]: sure.
04:07 PM JT-Shop: did that years ago along with probing and thread milling etc
04:07 PM * JT-Shop goes to improve the door chains
04:08 PM roguish[m]: oh, ok. pocket ops, hole ops
04:09 PM silopolis[m]: <JT-Shop> "that's the probe routines I..." <- Awesome, thanks!
04:10 PM silopolis[m]: Also found https://github.com/verser-git/probe_screen_v2/tree/master/macros
04:12 PM roguish[m]: silopolis[m]: probe_screen was also ported into qtvcp QTDragon.
04:16 PM silopolis[m]: Idea behind my question was probing in CAM
04:38 PM XXCoder: oh fun video https://youtu.be/nGlhMk1hEZw
04:48 PM Tom_L: silopolis[m], you would just have to set your cam up for it and enter the probe as a tool
04:48 PM Tom_L: maybe a special canned cycle?
04:50 PM TurBoss8676[m]: http://www.scorchworks.com/Blog/auto-probing-with-g-code-ripper/
04:50 PM TurBoss8676[m]: saw this long ag
04:50 PM TurBoss8676[m]: * saw this long ago
04:50 PM XXCoder: oh yeah yep
04:50 PM XXCoder: been a while
04:50 PM XXCoder: look at mouse. old for nowdays lol
04:51 PM XXCoder: baseball video is 12 years old approx
04:51 PM XXCoder: apparently latest video is 4 months old
04:53 PM XXCoder: guy uses lathe to shape rock
04:55 PM * JT-Shop2 takes 5 with Rush
04:56 PM roycroft: take 5 is still a dave brubeck tune :)
04:58 PM XXCoder: f-engraving last blog post was in 2016'
04:59 PM XXCoder: last post there period is 2017
04:59 PM XXCoder: hope guys ok
05:03 PM XXCoder: well youtube is more recent but yeah
05:05 PM JT-Shop2: looks like Friday before I can resume work on the deck...
05:06 PM roycroft: laura kamp just made a grill out of a toolbox, and it is pretty cool
05:07 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4pSovPBgME
05:07 PM JT-Shop2: roycroft: turns out that Lowes has an idiot that does the web pages, they really have 1/4-20 screws, the guy at Cape put the number in and it showed 1/4-20
05:08 PM roycroft: that makes sens
05:09 PM roycroft: #14 screws are too unusual for me to believe lowe's carries them
05:10 PM roycroft: they have an even worse selection of fasteners than home depot, if that is possible (other than a grocery store's selection)
05:10 PM silopolis[m]: <Tom_L> "maybe a special canned cycle?" <- Yes, that's the idea, stolen from my siemens/renishaw combo
05:11 PM silopolis[m]: Would love to have f360 probing feats into FreeCAD Path
05:11 PM JT-Shop2: well they do have #14 wood screws in brass
05:12 PM roycroft: #14 wood screws are not quite as uncommon as #14 machine screws, although i'd say that #12 is as large as wood screws are found commonly
05:12 PM roycroft: folks tend to move to lag screws beyond that size
05:13 PM roycroft: i'm glad there is a lowes near me, don't get me wrong
05:13 PM roycroft: but really, about 90% of what i buy there is sheet goods, with the remaining 10% paint and other finishes
05:14 PM roycroft: their tools ae more k-mart quality than even home depot quality
05:18 PM JT-Shop2: we had to go to Cape Girardeau today so my wife could get a calcium deposit on her rotator cuff poked
05:19 PM JT-Shop2: we are going back to Cape tomorrow to get a service done on the truck and then celebrate our 35th anniversary
05:19 PM Tom_L: yay
05:19 PM Tom_L: truck due already??
05:19 PM JT-Shop2: it's 3 hours on the road each trip so I might just stay home Wed and work on the egg drawer
05:19 PM JT-Shop2: 5k miles
05:20 PM JT-Shop2: I've had it since end of Nov
05:22 PM * roycroft has been driving more like 5k miles/year since he started working from home at the beginning of the pandemic
05:23 PM JT-Shop2: we went to the Pilot House Restaurant for lunch, it's a tiny hole in the wall out in the middle of nowhere but good food
05:23 PM Tom_L: that's how they stay afloat against all the chain food
05:23 PM JT-Shop2: I assume when I finish this Whirlpool assembly machine I won't drive as much in the truck
05:23 PM Tom_L: serve good food
05:24 PM JT-Shop2: we never go on the weekend you can't find a place to park
05:24 PM Tom_L: we try to do everything at odd times
05:25 PM Tom_L: less hassle
05:25 PM JT-Shop2: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pilot+House+Restaurant+%26+Catering
05:26 PM JT-Shop2: yep, we go during the week when people are busy working
05:26 PM Tom_L: haha there's a Whiskey Dicks just a few blocks from us
05:26 PM Tom_L: never been in but hear the food is great
05:27 PM Tom_L: no wonder.. your link pulled up my location :)
05:30 PM Tom_L: their slogan is 'For what whiskey won't cure there is no cure'
05:31 PM JT-Shop2: weird
05:31 PM JT-Shop2: https://www.google.com/search?q=pilot%20house%20restaurant&tbs=lf:1,lf_ui:9&tbm=lcl&rflfq=1&num=10&rldimm=11795759513966274444&lqi=ChZwaWxvdCBob3VzZSByZXN0YXVyYW50SI_A77_lgICACFokEAAQARACGAAYARgCIhZwaWxvdCBob3VzZSByZXN0YXVyYW50kgEQY2F0ZXJpbmdfc2VydmljZaoBHhABKhoiFnBpbG90IGhvdXNlIHJlc3RhdXJhbnQoAA&phdesc=5MYw2_pUC8E&ved=2ahUKEwix5_Hb0vb3AhUMFjQIHRSoCLAQvS56BAgFEAE&sa=X&rlst=f
05:31 PM JT-Shop2: sorry for the long link
05:32 PM ziper2: JT-Shop2, uhhhhhhhh
05:33 PM bjorkintosh: why? it's only one click!
05:33 PM bjorkintosh: long or short.
05:33 PM ziper2: JT-Shop2, is that link broken or you currently walking distance from where i live
05:33 PM JT-Shop2: whiskey dicks Q: Is this place lgbt freindly?8
05:33 PM JT-Shop2: A: It's a south side whiskey/biker bar. They definitely won't be hosting any drag shows. So, if lgbt stands for lowlifes, gearheads, and biker trash, this is your place! Come on in and have a drink with us!
05:34 PM XXCoder: pilot house eh
05:34 PM JT-Shop2: you'll just have to google pilot house restaurant
05:34 PM ziper2: ok, thank god, good had redirected the link to a local place named pilot house
05:34 PM ziper2: I have been to pilot house many times
05:34 PM ziper2: just not that pilot house :D
05:34 PM JT-Shop2: in florida?
05:35 PM ziper2: yeah
05:37 PM JT-Shop2: been a while since we rode the bluewing to key west
05:39 PM _unreal_: man I hope this wire goes. just sent money to my stocks but I JUST got home
05:39 PM _unreal_: traffic is backed up CRAZY
06:00 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, it came up in the search bar... i just had to click
06:00 PM JT-Shop2: ah
06:00 PM Tom_L: just caught me off guard when it showed my location
06:11 PM * JT-Shop2 wanders inside for the night
07:04 PM roycroft: i just picked up a gallon of shellac
07:04 PM roycroft: it cost $90
07:04 PM roycroft: the last gallon i bought, about 2 years ago, was $55
07:06 PM roycroft: thanks, climate change!
07:13 PM roguish[m]: roycroft: ya think those little beetles are hurting from climate change?
07:21 PM bjorkintosh: do you folks know how to block a youtube channel? youtube is pretty damned useful but like most of google's products, it's also terribly spammy!
07:21 PM bjorkintosh: can't seem to block the trash.
07:21 PM bjorkintosh: someone surely must have encountered this problem besides myself.
07:26 PM XXCoder: I use enchanted youtube and ublock
07:26 PM XXCoder: no ads
07:32 PM roguish[m]: check all your browsers available extensions.....
07:52 PM Tom_L: ublock origin
07:52 PM XXCoder: yeah
07:53 PM Tom_L: never really think about it until someone complains :)
07:54 PM bjorkintosh: I do use ublock. didn't know it could block specific channels.
07:54 PM bjorkintosh: I'll take a closer look.
07:55 PM XXCoder: channels? thought you was talking about ads
07:57 PM XXCoder: bjorkintosh: https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-block-youtube-channels/
07:57 PM bjorkintosh: yeah.
07:58 PM XXCoder: careful because it seems to be all or nothing on undo
07:58 PM XXCoder: unless you undo right away
07:58 PM bjorkintosh: XXCoder, it doesn't show the "don't recommend channel" for some of the worst offenders.
07:58 PM XXCoder: really? geez
07:59 PM bjorkintosh: eg. I use tcl a lot.
07:59 PM bjorkintosh: unfortunately, tcl is also some tv brand.
07:59 PM bjorkintosh: so, I get both. can't seem to block the tv brand crap from the tcl language substance.
08:03 PM bjorkintosh: it's beyond frustrating and I suspect it makes google cackle to know that their search returns absolute trash.
08:04 PM XXCoder: honestly I use rss feed
08:04 PM XXCoder: that way I know I watched all new videos.
08:05 PM XXCoder: I got fed up when they didnt show one channel videos as suggested for quite a while
09:09 PM roycroft: it looks like i'm up against the clock again
09:10 PM roycroft: rain is predicted to return on thursday
09:10 PM XXCoder: yup
09:10 PM XXCoder: plan to mow tomorrow
09:11 PM roycroft: i got my drawer bottom panels broken down today, but i still need to cut them up to finished size, and that will probably consume all my free time tomorrow - i have a concert in the evening
09:11 PM roycroft: i still have to break down the drawer side sheets, and i hope i can get that done on wednesday
09:11 PM roycroft: but again, i have an engagement early wednesday evening
09:12 PM roycroft: if i feel up to it i might work on the drawer bottoms after dinner tonight
09:15 PM Tom_L: should have mowed this evening but was too tired
09:21 PM roycroft: i should probably mow my lawn again, even though i just did it this past weekend
09:21 PM roycroft: going from jungle to lawn was a hack, in spite of my making the blade razor sharp
09:28 PM XXCoder: bjorkintosh: btw I HIGHLY recommand rss feed if you only watch videos you subbed to, or videos recommanded by others via other means, like irc,
09:30 PM bjorkintosh: XXCoder, alright. I'll look into it right away.
09:30 PM bjorkintosh: thank you.
09:30 PM XXCoder: hold on a sec, youi might want a tool to start with
09:31 PM XXCoder: https://github.com/rredford/YouTubeDataToRSS
09:31 PM XXCoder: you just need to download data from youtube, then convert it into OPMI to import into rss feed program. I use newsf;ash
09:31 PM bjorkintosh: oh cool. thank you.
09:32 PM XXCoder: I also made youtube channel to rss feed for future additions, but mine sucks, theres better ones
09:33 PM XXCoder: https://github.com/rredford/YouTubeRSS limitions is that you HAVE to click on user name to get to user page, and it must have UCeyNCJtCUtwsq2dWv26BmRA or something in url
09:34 PM XXCoder: it used to be case that you can just click on username of uploader but now.. you have to find a comment
09:38 PM XXCoder: (comment from that uploader)
09:39 PM XXCoder: found https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-rss-finder/
09:40 PM XXCoder: it works from any part of youtube that is user specific i guess? trying now.
09:41 PM XXCoder: bah it works exactly same as mine
09:41 PM XXCoder: more fancy but yeah
09:48 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:53 PM roycroft: i just had a salad for dinner, so nothing too heavy
09:53 PM roycroft: i think i can spend some more time in the shop cutting up drawer bottoms
09:53 PM * roycroft gives it a go and sees how far he gets
10:06 PM toluene5 is now known as toluene
10:54 PM Splat7847[m]: I'm getting frustrated with these probe tripped during non probe move when trying to probe
11:18 PM pcw--home: Its a safety feature (to protect the probe). You could mask it out and Linux CNC will cheerfully destroy the probe if you make a mistake
11:20 PM pcw--home: I just tried to buy some toluene, not available in CA (neither were the other choices: Xylene and MEK)
11:22 PM roycroft: well that worked out nicely - i finished the first batch of drawer bottoms (34 of 56 total) at exactly 9pm
11:22 PM roycroft: while i can legally make noise until 11, my "good neighbor" rule is to not make noise after dark or after 9pm, whichever comes earlier
11:25 PM XXCoder: nice
11:25 PM XXCoder: cant wait for you to be done
11:25 PM XXCoder: so I can go over and steal em ;)
11:25 PM roycroft: it will probably be another month
11:25 PM XXCoder: ok
11:25 PM * XXCoder marks the day
11:26 PM roycroft: i'd like to get it done, but i'll be happy when i can start moving fasteners into the first cabinet
11:27 PM roycroft: i'm actually already really happy that my systainers are sitting in their respective cabinets - it's a lot easier to work around my bench already
11:27 PM XXCoder: nice
11:27 PM roycroft: yeah
11:33 PM roycroft: i still have not decided the order in which i'll do final assembly of my drawers and trays
11:34 PM roycroft: i'll cut everything out first, but after that, and after sanding and pre-finishing, i'll probably be able to assemble about 4 drawers/day
11:34 PM roycroft: based on how many clamps i have and how long they have to stay clamped after glue-up
11:35 PM XXCoder: can always print more clamps
11:35 PM roycroft: not really
11:35 PM XXCoder: band and corner clamos is better
11:35 PM roycroft: not the type i need
11:36 PM roycroft: but that's ok
11:36 PM roycroft: i'm thinking i should start with about 4 of the fastener drawers, so i can get those installed and get back to printing boxes
11:36 PM XXCoder: I remember seeing clamp that uses common 2020 or 1010 extruisions
11:36 PM roycroft: then the drawers for the middle cabinet, which will store all my hand sanders and abrasives
11:36 PM XXCoder: if you already have some could use em I guess but yeah not too likely
11:37 PM XXCoder: smart strat on which drawers first
11:37 PM roycroft: that stuff is stored in systainers now, and it's a pain to get to them when i need to access them
11:37 PM roycroft: so getting those drawers done will start saving time right away
11:37 PM roycroft: then the systainer trays, so i have easier access to my tools
11:37 PM XXCoder: and room for printer to go chugging while you do stuff. double the stuff done
11:37 PM roycroft: then all the top drawers, which will store chisels, marking tools, and othe rhand tools
11:38 PM roycroft: and then i'll get back to the fastener drawers
11:39 PM roycroft: yeah, i was going to just start printing like crazy, but i realised that i'd have to sit down and calculate how many of each size/color box to make, and it's probably easier to do that as i move the fasteners, instead of just making a big batch of them up front and hoping i get the counts right
11:40 PM roycroft: that big wall of fasteners that i have organized nicely is probably only 1/3 of what i actually have
11:40 PM roycroft: there are cans and bags and boxes of fasteners that are not organized/cataloged at all
11:40 PM roycroft: mainly because the wall of fastners is pretty full, and there's no room to add more up there
11:41 PM XXCoder: id print a few spares just in case
11:41 PM XXCoder: better to just pick from spares box than setup printer and all that
11:41 PM roycroft: i shall, when i get to that point
11:42 PM roycroft: for most of the sizes i have jobs set up to print multiples at a time
11:42 PM roycroft: so if i need one or two small boxes i'll print nine
11:42 PM roycroft: medium boxes i'll print four or five
11:43 PM XXCoder: nice
11:47 PM Splat7847[m]: I've wired up my probe like a limit switch to my 7i76e according to Norbert's connection sheet and I haven't notice any issues with Z probing.. but not that I'm trying to probe the inside of a hole in the X or Y direction I keep getting this error while it's meant to be probing so it just stops.. bit ever once in a while it will actually finish the routine so I know at least my X one is ok when I don't get that probe error
