12:32 AM XXCoder: man I want one of those https://youtu.be/HKE3VJrteHE
12:41 AM roycroft: yeah, that's a nice vise
12:41 AM roycroft: tubelcain/mr pete made one a while back
12:41 AM XXCoder: she menions pete I think
12:50 AM roycroft: this is what i use on my drill press:
12:50 AM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XXHXC
12:50 AM XXCoder: nicer one, at much higher price than mine
12:50 AM XXCoder: mines $14 or so
12:51 AM roycroft: i like the cam action lock, and i superglued some parallels to it
12:52 AM roycroft: it doesn't lock down onto the table though - i have to do that with some clamps when i think i need it
12:52 AM XXCoder: yeah thats the usual
12:52 AM XXCoder: her vise is such a nice thing
12:52 AM roycroft: it was about $50 cheaper when i bought mine, btw
12:52 AM XXCoder: you walked to store in snow, uphill both ways?
12:52 AM XXCoder: ;)
12:52 AM roycroft: it actually wan't that long ago - i've only had it for about 4-5 years
12:53 AM XXCoder: funny thing at one point I always walked up and down from my home to bus stop
12:53 AM roycroft: i used one of those $14 harbor freight specials before that
12:53 AM XXCoder: it was too dangerous for bus to go down to house
12:53 AM XXCoder: .1 mile I would guess?
12:54 AM roycroft: the year before i moved away from bellingham the city sold its only snow plow
12:54 AM roycroft: we had a pretty bad snowstorm that year, and the snow stuck around for a couple weeks
12:55 AM roycroft: i lived on a hill that was not plowed, and had to park my car two blocks down
12:55 AM roycroft: i had to walk up and down the icy hill for two weeks
12:55 AM roycroft: that's when i decide it's time to move
12:55 AM XXCoder: sucks
12:55 AM roycroft: and i really liked bellingham
12:55 AM roycroft: but i'm really happy that i am in eugene now
01:01 AM XXCoder: nice yeah. great when live at plac eyou like
02:17 AM TurBoss: morning
02:18 AM XXCoder: yo
02:31 AM Deejay: moin
03:21 AM travis_farmer853: G'Morning ☕
03:21 AM XXCoder: yo
03:56 AM TurBoss: ☕️
05:06 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:23 AM Tom_L: morning
06:48 AM acer is now known as _unreal_
08:44 AM Deejay: re
09:05 AM _unreal_: sup
09:06 AM _unreal_: just finished cleaning the pool
09:25 AM _unreal_: now I think I'm happy with my final Z drawing
10:10 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:16 AM tcurdt: if I would have/like to invert the stepper signal on my mesa - that should be configurable, right?
10:26 AM ZincBoy[CAON]066: The direction signal? I don't think inverting the step pulse would do much.
10:26 AM ZincBoy[CAON]066: If you want to change the direction of the motor just swap the wires for one of the coils.
10:27 AM CloudEvil: Slight motion on boot for wrong step#
10:34 AM Tom_L: easier yet, invert scale in that joint section
10:35 AM Tom_L: no rewiring necessary
10:36 AM tcurdt: no no, it's not about step direction ... I am working on a bob ... and the question is whether I would have to invert output signals in hardware or not
10:37 AM Tom_L: you can also do that in the config
10:37 AM tcurdt: that's what I though ... just wanted to check with someone that knows here :)
10:37 AM Tom_L: unless it is a parallel port
10:37 AM Tom_L: mesa i'm sure you can
10:38 AM Tom_L: i have little parallel port config experience
10:38 AM tcurdt: I got a 7i92
10:38 AM Tom_L: np then
10:40 AM Tom_L: .in, .in_not, .out, .invert_output, .is_opendrain, .is_output
10:40 AM Tom_L: mesa IO modifiers
10:40 AM tcurdt: the china bob I got is not good enough and the original mesa (expansion) cards are out of stock ... hence I trying botch something together with some optoisolators/couplers
10:41 AM Tom_L: setp hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.gpio.029.invert_output 0
10:41 AM Tom_L: setp hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.gpio.023.invert_output 1
10:41 AM tcurdt: Tom_L I guess that's one of the reasons to get a mesa :) thx! sounds like I don't need to plan for any hardware inverters then
10:41 AM Tom_L: it's a switch
10:41 AM Tom_L: oh hell no...
10:41 AM Tom_L: :)
10:42 AM tcurdt: still a long road ahead though :-/
10:42 AM Tom_L: there is online help...
10:42 AM * tcurdt swears at the chip shortage
10:42 AM Tom_L: and an ever improving manual
10:43 AM tcurdt: you mean for the mesa or linuxcnc?
10:43 AM Tom_L: yes
10:44 AM tcurdt: for now I hope I can get away without compiling the bit file, create two PCBs to connect to the mesa and then learn linuxcnc :)
10:44 AM Tom_L: several of us have our configs online for examples if you need
10:45 AM Tom_L: making bit files isn't hard either
10:45 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/emc/xilinx/xilinx14_install_index.php
10:45 AM Tom_L: the new chips would be prohibitive though
10:46 AM tcurdt: the software I downloaded already ... but I'll leave that until I must
10:46 AM tcurdt: wdym by "new chips"?
10:46 AM Tom_L: there is likely a config you can use
10:47 AM Tom_L: chip shortage lead times caused peter to find a different fpga to use
10:47 AM tcurdt: ah ... yes
10:48 AM tcurdt: well, I have the mesa and some parts coming ... I wanted a different mesa ... but it is what it is
10:48 AM tcurdt: hence now working on the boars
10:48 AM tcurdt: boards
10:48 AM Tom_L: i think i have a 7i92
10:49 AM Tom_L: smaller ethernet board?
10:49 AM Tom_L: ..yes
10:57 AM Tom_L: tcurdt, what are you building?
10:59 AM tcurdt: Tom_L basically two expansion boards for the 7i92 ... I am too scared to connect the drivers and endstops/inputs directly to the precious card :)
10:59 AM Tom_L: yeah i hear ya
10:59 AM tcurdt: the standard china bobs are too limited ... I want/need more inputs
10:59 AM Tom_L: with that said, i have my limits and maybe a few other things connected direct on a 7i90
11:00 AM Tom_L: same as a 7i80 but not ethernet
11:00 AM tcurdt: tbh ... it might be fine without opto isolation
11:00 AM Tom_L: if you need more io, you can always add sserial
11:00 AM Tom_L: it's safer with iso
11:01 AM tcurdt: but for that you'd need to be able to get the mesa expansion boards ;)
11:01 AM Tom_L: sserial is good for slow IO like pendant, limit switches etc
11:02 AM Tom_L: his new board (7i96s) i think.. has several new features including mux input
11:02 AM tcurdt: it's been a while and it's nice to do some boards again ... allows to create exactly what I need ... not an EE ... but just adding some optos should be doable
11:02 AM Tom_L: dunno much about it but that would allow for more IO
11:03 AM travis_farmer853: i have my limits and such all on opto isolation, i didn't want to risk my board
11:03 AM Tom_L: make sure you get faster optos
11:03 AM tcurdt: yup
11:03 AM Tom_L: i did put an opto or so on a 24v relay circuit
11:03 AM tcurdt: that's another thing I wasn't sure about the china bobs
11:04 AM Tom_L: dunno what they were.. i had them already
11:04 AM travis_farmer853: step signals are direct to the drivers, as the drivers have built in opto
11:04 AM tcurdt: I am aiming at 200kHz
11:04 AM Tom_L: good drivers do anyway
11:04 AM Tom_L: they all _should_
11:05 AM travis_farmer853: true
11:06 AM tcurdt: I got the jmc servos (built-in driver) ... they do have optos ... but if you kill those.... it's painful to fix/replace
11:06 AM tcurdt: I rather fix my board(s) than those
11:07 AM tcurdt: does feel a bit overly cautious but...
11:07 AM Tom_L: are you guys on discord or matrix?
11:07 AM travis_farmer853: i am on discord
11:07 AM Tom_L: i've noticed several new faces here and they all seemed to show up at once...
11:07 AM tcurdt: I am on discord a lot ... matrix not so much
11:08 AM tcurdt: Tom_L or do you mean a specific channel on discord?
11:08 AM Tom_L: no
11:08 AM travis_farmer853: yeah, the new discord bridge brought everyone together, i guess
11:08 AM Tom_L: we just recently linked the two to irc
11:08 AM tcurdt: uuuuuh ... there is a discord bridge???
11:08 AM Tom_L: i thought so
11:09 AM travis_farmer853: yes, and i am on it 😉
11:09 AM Tom_L: not sure it made it to the devel channel yet though
11:09 AM tcurdt: how do I find that? travis_farmer853
11:09 AM tcurdt: irc even with a bouncer can be a little cumbersome at times
11:09 AM travis_farmer853: https://discord.gg/Tr2q8yZS
11:09 AM Tom_L: the matrix one shows up as [m] on your nick
11:10 AM travis_farmer853: i don't think devel is linked yet
11:10 AM Tom_L: we tried and nobody seemed to have the clearance needed
11:10 AM travis_farmer853: brb
11:11 AM tcurdt: there is a development channel though
11:11 AM Tom_L: yeah
11:11 AM Tom_L: not too much goes on there
11:11 AM tcurdt[m]: just not linked you mean?
11:11 AM Tom_L: right
11:11 AM tcurdt: ah ... there is the [m] :)
11:11 AM Tom_L: matrix may be
11:12 AM Tom_L: it's pretty much reserved for developers though
11:14 AM roguish[m]: tcurdt: the linuxcnc-devel channel is linked
11:14 AM Tom_L: roguish[m], not with discord..
11:14 AM Tom_L: at least not that i'm aware of
11:14 AM * JT-Shop has a delay in game... gotta replicate and replace another deck post
11:14 AM tcurdt: Tom_L s/developers/development topics/ ... I would think ... that's a little more inclusive :)
11:15 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, get a little wild with the chain saw?
11:15 AM Tom_L: tcurdt, probably so :)
11:15 AM pcw--home: If you want more inputs and you are making a BOB, you could use the inmux module
11:15 AM _unreal_: sigh.what is a bob again?
11:15 AM Tom_L: pcw--home, does that work on the older boards?
11:16 AM roguish[m]: Tom_L: ok, you're right about discord. it is with matrix. there is a 'development' channel in discord
11:16 AM Tom_L: 7i92 7i80...
11:16 AM tcurdt: pcw--home what's that? inmux module?
11:16 AM pcw--home: 6 pin will get you 32 reat time inputs
11:16 AM Tom_L: tcurdt, that's what i was telling you about
11:16 AM tcurdt: ah ... the smart serial thingy
11:16 AM pcw--home: yes works on all FPGA cards
11:16 AM roguish[m]: hey Peter. still alive and kickin'
11:16 AM Tom_L: no not smart serial
11:17 AM Tom_L: pcw--home, good to know
11:17 AM Tom_L: pcw--home, do you keep a list of all the fpga modules somewhere?
11:17 AM pcw--home: yep most my time is used searching for parts...
11:17 AM tcurdt: pcw--home before I ask many questions - got a link to read up on?
11:18 AM tcurdt: that said ... I have optos on the way ... so I am pretty much set on doing the boards now
11:19 AM pcw--home: Not ATM but its a simple input expansion module that uses external mux chips (typically 74HCT251s)
11:19 AM pcw--home: adds hardware debounce and up to 4 MPG encoder channels
11:20 AM pcw--home: Modules are listed in the regmap file
11:20 AM tcurdt: interesting - but unless I can buy it right now (in the EU) there is no point :)
11:22 AM tcurdt: pcw--home is there a way to contribute to the mesa manuals? I found the manual of the 7i92 lacking a few details that would have made my life easier
11:22 AM Tom_L: pcw--home, do you know the file extension for those...
11:22 AM Tom_L: i see several map files
11:24 AM tcurdt: pcw--home also ... it seems like the software for the bin file compilation is deprecated ... is there any open source toolchain? or what's the future there?
11:24 AM Tom_L: tcurdt, 14.7 was the last webpack
11:25 AM Tom_L: it is still in their archives
11:25 AM Tom_L: vivado is the newer software for xilinx
11:25 AM tcurdt: I manage to find and download it ... the question still remains though
11:25 AM tcurdt: "vivado" ok
11:26 AM Tom_L: i think it's pretty vendor specific
11:26 AM Tom_L: webpack works on chips up to spartin6
11:26 AM Tom_L: newer ones you need vivado
11:27 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, replacing 160' of deck railing and this is the second post that has rot at the top
11:27 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, put a hat on it
11:27 AM JT-Shop: lol
11:29 AM pcw--home: Yep Vivado doesn't support SP6
11:32 AM pcw--home: of course SP6 chips have about a 80-99 week leadtime, Vivado supported chips as low as 48 weeks!
11:33 AM Tom_L: i bet china could clone them alot quicker...
11:33 AM Tom_L: :)
11:35 AM pcw--home: Well I Actually can get Efinix (Chinese) chips now (though they are no clone)
11:36 AM pcw--home: they have a quite different internal architecture than most FPGA chips (routing and logic are combined in the same cells)
11:40 AM pcw--home: Tom_L: the regmap file is in the VHDL source distribution (no extension)
11:47 AM Tom_L: ahh ok.. thanks
11:51 AM _unreal_: fingers crossed I'm milling the final pockets on this main ZX frame
11:52 AM Tom_L: pcw--home, have the source files been updated to include the newer functions?
11:54 AM Tom_L: ahh i see inmux in an older downloaded 7i80 set
11:54 AM Tom_L: the hardware would have to be present though :)
11:56 AM pcw--home: Yes, though I'm not sure all project files have been updated
11:56 AM pcw--home: bbl
11:58 AM _unreal_: interesting
11:58 AM _unreal_: one of the things I took apart the other day has an interesting board on it.
12:00 PM _unreal_: it has a control board with a CPLD xc5972 and some other controller chip 64f7044f28v, 3 relays. 6 optos
12:00 PM _unreal_: a few logic chips and lots of "i/o
12:02 PM _unreal_: its the main control board for a very high power inverter
12:08 PM _unreal_: I did just commit one error, 2 holes I used the wrong size drillbit :| sigh.... no biggie just the limit switch. I CAN drill out the hole in the switch thankfully
12:34 PM _unreal_: ve7it, hi
12:42 PM roycroft: i was just getting ready to start making drawer bottoms when i decided to do a sanity check on my drawer layout
12:42 PM roycroft: i'm glad i did, because one of my systainers doesn't fit
12:42 PM roycroft: i found that the published dimensions for systainer sizes do not include the feet, which add 7mm to the height
12:43 PM roycroft: and that one size had only a couple mm of wiggle room
12:43 PM * roycroft is doing a quick redesign
12:44 PM roycroft: this time i made some models of systainers according to the published specs, and actually measured them all to be sure the specs are correct
12:45 PM ve7it: _unreal_, hey... whats up in Florida?
12:46 PM _unreal_: hi
12:46 PM _unreal_: msg
12:51 PM Tom_L: roycroft, measure 2x cut 1x
12:54 PM roycroft: i've done no cutting yet :)
03:03 PM CaptainHindsight: the Linuxcnc-developers channel does not bridge to Discord yet, it does however bridge to Matrix
03:04 PM CaptainHindsight: someone with Linuxcnc-devel admin rights on Libera would need to accept the Discord bot
03:04 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:06 PM CaptainHindsight: it's been odd, the keyholders of that and the official repos aren't active on the mail list, forums, IRC, Matrix or Discord
03:07 PM XXCoder: turboss considered making new dev matrix because of un-contactable nature of matrix for lcnc dev
03:07 PM XXCoder: *admins
03:07 PM XXCoder: essentally similiar reason to why I made discord
03:08 PM CaptainHindsight: can;t reach Rene or Jepler?
03:08 PM XXCoder: didnt jepler come in here recently
03:09 PM CaptainHindsight: pretty sure Rene setup the Libera LCNC dev channel and made the Matrix bridge
03:09 PM CaptainHindsight: might be in my Libera history
03:09 PM TurBoss: Hello
03:09 PM CaptainHindsight: please correct me if I am wrong
03:10 PM CaptainHindsight: a few with commit rights are on the ML and the forums
03:11 PM TurBoss: I think that the linuxcnc dev room in the matrix side was created automatically by the appservice
03:11 PM CaptainHindsight: jepler made that announcement about stepping back from LCNC as a gatekeeper but I don't know who he handed the keys off to
03:11 PM XXCoder: jepler is still owner of this irc channel also
03:12 PM CaptainHindsight: as far as I know he still has them since he had that pressing need for the COC
03:12 PM XXCoder: coc?
03:12 PM CaptainHindsight: code of conduct = COC
03:13 PM XXCoder: ah yes thought it meant something different due to context
03:14 PM CaptainHindsight: not discussing private extracurricular activities, you prevert 🙂
03:14 PM XXCoder: uh... ok lol
03:15 PM _unreal_: well time to go get my daughter. SIGH.. hate the damn drive
03:16 PM _unreal_: roy, the more times you cut the more practice you get LOL.
03:17 PM XXCoder: https://imgur.com/PpIToQE.png my overly complex stand in model
03:17 PM CaptainHindsight: jepler is usually away, so getting his attention to accept a bot is highly unlikely
03:19 PM travis_farmer853: time to overthrow the leadership... 😉 (kidding...)
03:19 PM CaptainHindsight: so it's a dysfunctional mess, i don't know the drama behind it
03:20 PM CaptainHindsight: Andy seems to be able to pull a release together when he has the time and desire
03:21 PM CaptainHindsight: might be some Germans involved a s well 🙂
03:21 PM CaptainHindsight: s/a/as/, s/s//
03:23 PM * CaptHindsight[m] used to be German
03:30 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m],
03:30 PM Tom_L: do you have admin on discord?
03:30 PM CaptHindsight[m]: xxcoder and turboss
03:31 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I have peanut galley rights
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: s/galley/gallery/
03:31 PM Tom_L: ok
03:31 PM travis_farmer853: i have no rights 😉
03:32 PM Tom_L: turbo tried though and had the same results i did
03:32 PM Tom_L: i opt'd him on devel and he tried
03:32 PM XXCoder: I guess it requires admin
03:32 PM XXCoder: turboss manages bridges
03:33 PM XXCoder: only bot I manage on discord is rss feed bot
03:33 PM XXCoder: well and mee6
03:33 PM Tom_L: we tried couple weeks ago
03:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I tried contacting all the devs I knew when I started the LCNC matrix server with no replies
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i think we had to bridge from Discord to Matrix
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not Libera to Discord
03:56 PM roguish[m]: capt_hindsight[m]: try reaching jepler via the email list. probably the linuxcnc-devel list
03:56 PM XXCoder: https://imgur.com/zzElywF.png fun. designing
03:58 PM roguish[m]: capt_hindsight[m]: Tom_L XXCoder yes, we probably need a hand over of keys to the house..........
03:58 PM roguish[m]: JT has some rights. not sure exactly what.
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: things started downhill around the LCNC meeting 9 years ago when machinekit forked
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: really been running headless for the past few years
04:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: check with Andy when he's around again
04:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: he's on the forums daily
04:02 PM XXCoder: pretty often here also
04:19 PM * JT-Shop has some lefts too
04:56 PM Tom_L: roguish[m], yeah we tried climbing thru the window..
05:02 PM JT-Shop: I bought 20 2x4x16's for the deck rails, I've used 5 and I'm half way around the upper rail so my math was good
05:02 PM XXCoder: nice
05:03 PM Tom_L: mustuv not taken that 'new' math
05:03 PM JT-Shop: I skipped out
05:03 PM Tom_L: probably better off..
05:04 PM JT-Shop: I was hoping to get the top rail done today but making a post slowed me down quite a bit
05:04 PM JT-Shop: now I wonder why I made them so fancy 22 years ago
05:05 PM XXCoder: younger?
05:06 PM Tom_L: he's been to the skool of hk since then
05:10 PM roguish[m]: he's retired now..........
05:46 PM JT-Shop: lol
06:03 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:03 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:10 PM JT-Shop: the skool of hk started in 1953 for me
06:22 PM Tom_L: i joined a few years later but not that many
06:32 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:26 PM roycroft: after spending most of the day redrawing my cabinet layout (and fixing several small errors) i figured out the problem with the systainers - i laid out a 64mm grid, because that works for most things, but a couple of the drawers need to be on a 32mm grid, and that's why the one did not fit
07:27 PM roycroft: so a couple extra rows of holes and i should be good to go
07:27 PM roycroft: that's what i get for being lazy
07:34 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:15 PM * CaptHindsight[m] uploaded an image: (217KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/UzcmrrzfTYJclZPxAPyfadvX/Chips01.JPG >
08:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: chips 3d body
08:15 PM XXCoder: throw it away, that pear is overaged ;)
08:16 PM XXCoder: nice
08:16 PM * CaptHindsight[m] posted a file: (13KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/PqTdkoIXPjzbIVZUFbyaeBdS/Chips01.IGS >
08:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ^^ 100mm height
08:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the bottom should be stable enough
08:21 PM XXCoder: its just a body for now or?
08:33 PM roycroft: i finally finished chopping down my jungle - i got most it done yesterday, until i ran out of fuel, both for the mower and for me, so i finished it up today
08:34 PM roycroft: and i've triple checked all my measurements for my cabinets, so i can finally make my final cut sheets for the drawer components
08:34 PM roycroft: i'm only a week and a half behind on that project :)
08:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yeah just a body for now
09:02 PM XXCoder: capt ok
09:02 PM XXCoder: roy lol ok
