01:43 AM randy: +morning
01:53 AM XXCoder: lol
01:54 AM XXCoder: clog wasnt in, so your words is safely unrecorded lol
01:54 AM Loetmichel: Is that how alzheimers start or just a normal Friday morning?
02:00 AM randy: if your are superstitious, its not an normal friday )
02:00 AM Loetmichel: ah, i see the date now
02:00 AM XXCoder: https://www.optipess.com/comic/jason-vs-may-13th-rework/
02:00 AM randy: but at least better than any monday
02:01 AM Loetmichel: but no, i married on a friday 13th. So not superstitious
03:25 AM Deejay: moin
04:07 AM Coffee0297[m]: Hello, i was wondering if theres any docs on servocontrol in linuxCNC? I just need to know what control it supports
04:07 AM Coffee0297[m]: and or if it supports profinet
04:55 AM Tom_L: morning
04:57 AM Tom_L: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?LinuxCNC_Supported_Hardware
05:07 AM JT-Cave: morning
09:09 AM flatblackdime[m]: I'm considering converting my axyz router to use linuxcnc with a mesa 7i76e. It's a servo machine with an rs485 controlled vfd. I have both a pi4 and a gigabyte minipc. Would love some advice on what direction to go
09:10 AM JT-Shop: step and direction servos?
09:11 AM JT-Shop: the forum has lots of good information
09:13 AM * JT-Shop wanders down to the chicken yard
09:14 AM flatblackdime[m]: I'm not sure actually. It uses off the shelf SST teknic controllers
09:18 AM flatblackdime[m]: It appears that the controllers also handle limit switch stuff. Is this common?
10:05 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:22 AM fluffywolf: " it is missing the controls mechanism and the plasma cutter itself, so basically it is just the 4x4 xy table." and there's the answer on the plasma table.... definitely will need to build controls from scratch to use it.
10:27 AM fluffywolf: flatblackdime[m]: googling says SST teknic controllers can take either step/direction or +/-10v analog. you may get better performance using the analog inputs with a servo mesa board, at the expense of a lot more wiring and configuration...
10:33 AM fluffywolf: bbl, work
10:48 AM flatblackdime[m]: Thanks! I'll do some investigating into how the a2mc controller is operating these conrollers
10:48 AM flatblackdime[m]: s/conrollers/controllers/
02:21 PM MrSunshine: wow ... thanks the to mesa card i can up my cutting speeds to over 8m/min ... before i couldnt get over 4m/min bits were always screaming and ive learned to live with it ... but read the statement "a screaming bit is a hungry bit" and started looking at it .. so now i run my 6mm bits in over 8m/min and it sounds .. AMAZING compared to before ... =)
02:21 PM MrSunshine: and damn the work gets done fast...
02:57 PM XXCoder: from safety sqints guys, new invention: safety hand https://youtu.be/jyYxfNyWU5I (welding section)
02:58 PM XXCoder: though later he finally uses protection
03:01 PM XXCoder: safety hand again later on
03:35 PM djdelorie: ideally, square pegs so they can be printed laying down too
03:36 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:36 PM XXCoder: guy who invented safety hand says "gonna get belt on, safety first!"
03:37 PM djdelorie: the guy on Durty Jobs always said "safety third"
03:37 PM djdelorie: higher priority was "do the job" and "make a TV show"
04:28 PM XXCoder: very nice https://youtu.be/qoxxyttw3HQ
04:28 PM XXCoder: shredder for plastics
04:50 PM andypugh: Unusual battery chemistry :-) https://www.hrl-battery.com/lithium-polonium-battery-3-7v-10ah/
04:51 PM XXCoder: hmm
04:51 PM XXCoder: whats it like compared to standard lathinium ion
04:52 PM andypugh: You mean Lutetium Iron?
04:53 PM JT-Shop2: in England what does she was wearing braces and boots mean?
04:54 PM andypugh: You mean literally, or what does it imply?
04:54 PM roycroft: braces are suspenders in british english
04:54 PM andypugh: “Braces” are elastic straps over the shoulders to hold up trousers
04:55 PM roycroft: i'm not familiar with the idiom, though, but i'd presume it infers scantily clad?
04:55 PM andypugh: Saying that “she was wearing suspenders and boots’ would conjour an entirely different mental image.
04:56 PM andypugh: I don’t think you can be scantily clad with braces, in general. As they need to clip to trousers. (Typically)
04:56 PM Tom_L: https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/belt-and-braces.html
04:56 PM roycroft: oh
04:56 PM roycroft: "braces and boots" means "belt and suspenders"
04:57 PM unterhausen: I don't think so
04:57 PM roycroft: they can clip to the garter belt
04:57 PM XXCoder: lithium-ion batteries.
04:57 PM roycroft: oh, it doesn't, you're correct
04:58 PM roycroft: tom_l's link is to the term "belt and braces", not "braces and boots"
04:58 PM JT-Shop2: it's from an Elton John song
04:58 PM roycroft: perhaps the woman being described is a lumberjack
04:58 PM roycroft: or, at least, always wanted to be a lumberjack
04:59 PM * roycroft decides not to break out in a differnt song
05:00 PM roycroft: i should get back to drilling holes
05:00 PM JT-Shop2: My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
05:00 PM roycroft: i have about 300 drilled, and another 1000 or so to go
05:00 PM JT-Shop2: And my old lady she don't care
05:00 PM JT-Shop2: My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
05:00 PM JT-Shop2: A handful of grease in her hair
05:01 PM roycroft: so not necessarily a lumberjack, but "work clothing"
05:01 PM andypugh: Yeah, just literally braces and boots. Possibly suggesting that she was a punk or skinhead. https://images.app.goo.gl/45Y6g1q4F8JUTvCP9
05:01 PM roycroft: think carhartts and boots
05:03 PM andypugh: If it’s a song from the 70s or 80s, then I would go for skinhead.
05:04 PM * roycroft does get back to drilling
05:05 PM JT-Shop2: yep released in 1973
05:06 PM XXCoder: andypugh: whats lithium-polonium battery like anyway
05:07 PM XXCoder: any different from regular lithium-ion
05:07 PM andypugh: I _assume_ that they are idiots and think that the “Po” in LiPo is Polonium not Polymer.
05:08 PM XXCoder: ahh lol ok
05:09 PM andypugh: Polonium is only really used for killing Russians (as a poison) or Japanese (as a nuclear bomb initiator). It woudl be a _terrible_ idea to put it in batteries.
05:10 PM XXCoder: unless it makes it last 10x as long
05:11 PM XXCoder: ;)
05:12 PM XXCoder: honesly I was thinking maybe it uses very tiny amount to enchance something. guess not lol
05:14 PM andypugh: Even tiny amounts would be crazy “Polonium can be hazardous and has no biological role.[14] By mass, polonium-210 is around 250,000 times more toxic than hydrogen cyanide (the LD50 for 210Po is less than 1 microgram for an average adult (see below) compared with about 250 milligrams for hydrogen cyanide[74]).”
05:15 PM XXCoder: interesting
05:15 PM JT-Shop2: after viewing that image of British skin heads the song makes perfect sense now, thanks andypugh
05:18 PM XXCoder: andy was thinking pretty lot less than microgram but then I doubt it'd have ny effect that tiny, besides from still hot
05:21 PM * JT-Shop2 goes back to milling lumber and doesn't want to get any polonium on him
05:23 PM XXCoder: just dont anger any russian agent
05:23 PM XXCoder: or putin
05:28 PM JT-Shop2: I'll just use some Illudium Pu-36
05:29 PM XXCoder: advanced, that
05:29 PM XXCoder: might even be martian
05:30 PM XXCoder: keep in mind that sometimes earth blocks view of venus, yes, but it dont last long. dont elimate us please
05:32 PM JT-Shop2: yeah it could destroy the whole earth if it worked
05:40 PM Tom_L: such violence
05:42 PM JT-Shop2: I'll call Marvin and tell it to cancel the order
05:43 PM * Tom_L sends wile e coyote instead: data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/2wCEAAkGBwgHBgkIBwgKCgkLDRYPDQwMDRsUFRAWIB0iIiAdHx8kKDQsJCYxJx8fLT0tMTU3Ojo6Iys/RD84QzQ5OjcBCgoKDQwNGg8PGjclHyU3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3N//AABEIAIMArwMBIgACEQEDEQH/xAAbAAABBQEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFAAIDBAYHAf/EAEgQAAIBAwICBgUJAwsCBwAAAAECAwAEEQUhEjEGEyJBUWEUcYGRsRUjMjNSoaLB0UJz0gckJUNTYnKSsvDxlOE0RFRjgoTC/8QAGgEAAgMBAQAA

05:48 PM JT-Shop2: holy crap TurBoss
05:48 PM Tom_L: about how the rest of my friday went
05:49 PM TurBoss: JT-Shop2: I broke?
05:49 PM * Tom_L is glad he ducked the blame on that one
05:49 PM JT-Shop2: no, just saying holy crap
05:49 PM JT-Shop2: Tom_L: image lol
05:50 PM TurBoss: lol
05:50 PM TurBoss: took me a while
05:53 PM Tom_L: probably how a noob feels when they first fire up their brand new cnc conversion
05:54 PM JT-Shop2: like oh crap
05:55 PM Tom_L: those 2 still make me laugh
05:55 PM JT-Shop2: we had a good day and went to Echo Bluff State Park for lunch and wine

05:56 PM JT-Shop2: reminds me of Down Periscope
05:56 PM Tom_L: macho macho man...
05:59 PM fluffywolf: someone bought the plasma table for $1000. too rich for me!
06:01 PM fluffywolf: I was going to lowball him with $100. heh.
06:02 PM JT-Shop2: their wine was over priced $37 for a bottle of Kendal Jackson Cali wine
06:03 PM JT-Shop2: there you go some Dwight Yoakam
06:03 PM XXCoder: honestly I wonder if you could just make one
06:03 PM JT-Shop2: I did
06:18 PM XXCoder: guy just left. whatever lol
06:19 PM XXCoder: I think it would need just a good bin and basic xy movement system
06:21 PM Tom_L: i've seen him around different places
06:21 PM Tom_L: her?
07:02 PM roycroft: i totally miscalculated the number of holes i need to drill
07:02 PM roycroft: and eventually fill with screws, of course
07:02 PM roycroft: i thought it was around 1200
07:02 PM roycroft: it's actually 1870
07:03 PM * roycroft orders more fasteners, and hope his arm recovers from drilling the first few hundred soon so he can keep going
07:03 PM XXCoder: cant use drill press?
07:04 PM Tom_L: gee i wonder what CNCs are for
07:06 PM roycroft: the panels are too big for that
07:07 PM roycroft: i have a jig, so alignment is not an issue
07:07 PM roycroft: tom_l: i'm somewhat regretting pushing back the cnc router project to get this build done
07:08 PM roycroft: i thought that getting these cabinets built would start saving me a *lot* of time immediately, and would be a bigger short term win than building the cnc router
07:10 PM roycroft: the side panels for these cabinets are actually a bit larger than the working footprint of the router, so some operations would still have needed to be done manually even if i had the router
07:10 PM roycroft: but yes, this kind of robotic work is, well, better suited to robots than humans
08:01 PM roycroft: i know you folks like pictures, so https://roycroft.us/Cabinet_Side_Panel.jpeg
08:01 PM roycroft: that's what i'm working on
08:01 PM roycroft: i'm making 10 of those
08:02 PM roycroft: and i have to say, i'm not sure if veritas did this on purpose, but i suspect they did
08:02 PM roycroft: my cabinets are made of 3/4" melamine
08:02 PM roycroft: and i'm using the standard euro 32mm grid system for the drawer slides
08:03 PM roycroft: so the top row of holes needs to be 3/4" +32mm from the top of the panel
08:03 PM roycroft: and when i line the top bar of the veritas jig with the top of the panel, the first row of holes is exactly 3/4"+32mm from the top
08:04 PM roycroft: well, close to eactly
08:04 PM roycroft: exactly
08:04 PM roycroft: it's 51mm
08:04 PM roycroft: and 3/4"+32mm = 51.05mm
08:06 PM flyback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIfJ30fPAOw
08:07 PM * roycroft thinks it's time to start making pizza
08:07 PM roycroft: i'll finish drilling tomorrow
08:08 PM XXCoder: <%) <%) <%) <%)
08:08 PM XXCoder: have some beer too c{_} c{_} c{_} c{_}
08:08 PM roycroft: i might have a nice refreshing beverage with my pizza
08:09 PM roycroft: i'm using a 12v drill for those holes, because the 18v drill is way heavier
08:09 PM roycroft: i'm depleting batteries slightly faster than they can recharge
08:09 PM roycroft: but i have 8 12v batteries, so i won't run out
08:09 PM roycroft: i'll get them caught up on charging tonight
08:10 PM roycroft: all my 12v batteries are several years old, so they don't have their original charging capacity any more, and they're really small, which is fine, because i want to conserve weight
08:16 PM XXCoder: flyback nice video
08:24 PM flyback: yep
08:24 PM flyback: I seen some really shitty pc psu's without a crowbar
08:24 PM flyback: customer of ours had bought a random whitebox pc from some random place
08:24 PM flyback: real piece of horse shit psu
08:25 PM flyback: BLEW THE CHIPS OFF THE HARD DRIVE
08:25 PM flyback: NO JOKE
08:25 PM XXCoder: wow
08:25 PM flyback: even the keyboard, etc were all fried
08:25 PM XXCoder: i wont pretend to understand it fully beyond basicfws but it was stll enjoyable anyway
08:25 PM flyback: basically a crowbar bitch slaps a power supply
08:25 PM flyback: if the power supply starts to fail and the voltage rises
08:26 PM flyback: killing the psu or at least blowing the fuse
08:26 PM flyback: which saves everything attached
08:26 PM XXCoder: yeah i understood that part
08:26 PM flyback: they use zener diodes because they don't conduct till they reached their doped voltage
08:26 PM XXCoder: that was interesting part
08:28 PM flyback: certain type power supplies the voltage is regulated by just how long the transistor stays on to charge some magnetic
08:28 PM flyback: so with a 120v ac you usually have up to the potentiAL for 60volts (1/2 ac cycle) to be on your 5, 3.3, etc outputs
08:28 PM flyback: very bad
08:29 PM flyback: wanna hear something scarier
08:30 PM flyback: there's some other differences but the primary different between a picture tube and a x-ray tube is voltage
08:30 PM XXCoder: probably needs knowleage to be scary but go on
08:30 PM XXCoder: ahh
08:30 PM XXCoder: interesting
08:30 PM flyback: so tv's had the potential to x-ray the viewer if the power supply voltage went too high
08:30 PM flyback: so in the 60's they mandated a crowbar circuit basically
08:31 PM XXCoder: good thing too. or every house would have xray each time storm happened
08:31 PM flyback: well not just that, a failing capacitor in the power supply would make the sensing circuit think it's too low and tries to raise it to compensate
08:31 PM flyback: when its' really not low
08:33 PM flyback: that's my name btw
08:33 PM flyback: flyback is a high voltage transformer used to power up picture tubes, x-ray tubes, etc
08:34 PM XXCoder: I knew flyback was something electrics lol thanks
09:15 PM roycroft: i know flyback transformers are things to avoid when poking around inside a live television set
09:16 PM XXCoder: yeah lest you fly back away from flyback
09:16 PM flyback: they aren't that dangerous cause it's all voltage and 0 current
09:16 PM flyback: but the tube can build up and hold a nasty charge for a long time
09:16 PM flyback: unlike a MOT WHICH WILL KILL YOU
09:16 PM flyback: MOT ARE HIGH VOLTAGE AND HIGH CURRENT
09:17 PM flyback: LIKE BAREHANDING A POWER LINE
09:17 PM flyback: don't fuck with mot's
09:23 PM roycroft: i just remember that if the tv is live, it's best not to go near the flyback transformer, and absolutely stay far away from the big capacitors
09:24 PM XXCoder: I think since volt is so high, it can get though skin resistance and hit heart
09:24 PM XXCoder: only need few milliamps for heart problems, good thing skin resistance is so high
09:24 PM roycroft: but there aren't that many televions around with crts any more
09:25 PM roycroft: poking around in an led tv is not the same
