01:05 AM randy: morning
01:31 AM Deejay: moin
04:09 AM mrec: sliptonicBradCol: what does your part look like?
04:47 AM Tom_L: morning
05:10 AM JT-Cave: morning
08:09 AM c101horse8332[m]: Quick question, the hell are all these bots doing here?
08:18 AM unterhausen: which bots exactly? The ones with more numbers than letters in their name?
08:29 AM Tom_L: they're here from the dark side
08:30 AM Tom_L: only one i'm actually aware of
09:12 AM FranseFrikandel1: It's the bridge from matrix ๐Ÿ˜›
09:29 AM roycroft: is that a bridge to nowhwere, a bridge from nowhere, or just a bridge too far?
10:23 AM pcw-home: JT-Cave: 7I96S manual and firmware available now (just the store link for now)
10:45 AM sliptonicBradCol: @mrec I have several parts. I can provide drawings for all. Something like this is typical. About an inch in diameter. Aluminum.
10:45 AM * sliptonicBradCol uploaded an image: (25KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/xbSJqVqKYsQgcEnsHSAnYlbC/2022-05-11_10-28.png >
10:49 AM sliptonicBradCol: (hole is drilled and tapped for a set screw, BTW)
12:38 PM jepler1088[m]: https://hackaday.com/2022/05/11/animate-your-robot-in-blender/
12:38 PM jepler1088[m]: .. redo vismach but by being a blender plugin .. ?
01:08 PM silopolis[m]: <jepler1088[m]> ".. redo vismach but by being a..." <- FreeCAD Workbench pleeease ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
02:24 PM coralgoat: Is there a specific kind of ethernet cable that should be used with <https://mesaus.com/product/7i92m/>?
02:25 PM coralgoat: I am asking because I was told there is a specific kind of db25 cable to use with <https://mesaus.com/product/6i25/>.
02:27 PM coralgoat: I am going to guess based on seeing no ethernet cable on here <https://mesaus.com/product-category/cables/> that the answer is no.
02:27 PM silopolis[m]: Someone to tell me why the forum refuses my SVG files with the "Image MIME type (%s) is not allowed (%s)." error message ?
02:30 PM coralgoat: So I would go with a <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_6_cable> cable.
02:43 PM roycroft: i would use a cat6 cable, as short as is practical, and avoid routing it near other cables that carry ac current
03:28 PM JT-Shop: I have a box of shielded cat 6 cable
03:30 PM coralgoat: JT-Shop, are you selling those shielded cat 6 cables on mesaus.com?
03:36 PM JT-Shop: no, it's just a box of wire, but I could make you one I suppose
03:37 PM JT-Shop2: wow it's tested to 350MHz
04:16 PM * JT-Shop2 is getting the hang of sharpening chisels... and now has two insanely sharp chisels
04:22 PM XXCoder: jt thats awesome
04:24 PM JT-Shop: nice chips logo!
04:28 PM XXCoder: thanks, though we found orginial so I am combining better orginal body, with my design of goggles, eyes and endmill
04:29 PM XXCoder: there was comments on how hard endmill is to see when small size so im adding border and brightening it a bit later
04:29 PM Bear-100: I am back in the work shop testing a parallel port card.
04:29 PM Bear-100: When I run `sudo lspci -vvv` the parallel port card that I am testing does not have any information for:
04:30 PM Bear-100: Kernel drivers in use:
04:30 PM Bear-100: Kernel modules:
04:30 PM Bear-100: Does that mean that this parallel port card will not work.
04:30 PM Bear-100: ?
04:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: oh great, which card is this?
04:35 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] lspci says MSC9900.
04:35 PM Bear-100: MosChip Semiconductor Technology limited
04:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: pastebin the lspci output
04:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you can post just the relevant section or the whole thing but on pastebin, not in the channel
04:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no floods
04:37 PM * Bear-100 transferring information by USB from offline Linuxcnc machine.
04:37 PM XXCoder: or dpaste.com pastebin had some certs issues last time someone tried to use it yeserday
04:39 PM * CaptHindsight[m] is doing a linux install so not always at keyboard
04:40 PM Bear-100: typo tht was suposed to me a me command
04:40 PM Bear-100: me -> be
04:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://dpaste.org/7KHLo my output with that card
04:43 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] https://dpaste.com/7ZJUJTGYX
04:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://dpaste.org/atjbg -vn
04:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: OK it's there
04:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: do a lspci -vn and post the last two lines here
04:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: mine says: Kernel driver in use: parport_pc
04:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Kernel modules: parport_pc
04:47 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] last two lines with -vn
04:47 PM Bear-100: Capabilities: [100] Virtual channel
04:48 PM Bear-100: Capabilities: [800] Advanced Error Reporting
04:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: which kernel is this? use uname -a
04:49 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] there is no " Kernel driver in use:" or "Kernel modules:".
04:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ok, why I want to know which kernel you are using
04:52 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] Linux debian 4.19.0-17-rt-amd64 (pound sign)1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 4.19.194-2 (2021-06-21) x86_64 GNU/Linux
04:52 PM Bear-100: The one from http://www.linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.8.2-buster.iso
04:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: did you type lspci -vn ?
04:55 PM Bear-100: Yes I did.
04:55 PM Bear-100: there is no " Kernel driver in use:" or "Kernel modules:".
04:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: try lspci -vvnn
04:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: wierd
04:55 PM Bear-100: Still no " Kernel driver in use:" or "Kernel modules:".
04:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: plus you are spewing much more than what lspci -vn should post
04:56 PM Bear-100: with -vvnn
04:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: my concern first is why you are getting different output than me
04:56 PM Bear-100: That was with -vvv what I put in the paste bin.
04:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: lspci -vvnn https://dpaste.org/wfsZN
04:59 PM Bear-100: I was using sudo because without it it says access denied for capabilities
05:00 PM Bear-100: I will paste bin the output of lspci -vvnn without sudo.
05:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I want to see the PCI vendor and the device id
05:01 PM Bear-100: What are those in your paste?
05:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: vendor id should be 9710
05:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I have the lspic strings in each paste
05:02 PM Bear-100: In the same spot mine says 9710
05:03 PM Bear-100: Mine says [9710:9900]
05:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: what is the device ID ?
05:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah
05:08 PM Bear-100: Is this parallel port card not going to work with Linuxcnc?
05:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: don't know yet
05:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hold on
05:10 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, you should do a whole series of chips. some with lathe tools, some with threadmills, some with flycutters.....
05:10 PM Tom_L: one lasering his foot off...
05:11 PM Tom_L: that could be the safety warning one
05:11 PM XXCoder: lol
05:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: please copy and paste the WHOLE lspci -vvnn to dpaste
05:11 PM Bear-100: Okay on sec
05:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: your other past was cut off
05:12 PM Tom_L: mebbe he's hiding his past
05:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: so please just to be safe paste the whole thing
05:14 PM Bear-100: https://dpaste.com/4B63U8VU5
05:14 PM Bear-100: it ends with access denied
05:14 PM Bear-100: that is for lspci -vvnn
05:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sudo lspci -vvnn
05:21 PM Bear-100: sudo lspci -vvnn
05:21 PM Bear-100: https://dpaste.com/GKXBW9R4E
05:22 PM Bear-100: ends with CHkEn-
05:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: please post the whole thing
05:26 PM JT-Shop2: chicken?
05:29 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] here is all of the output of sudo lspci -vvnn
05:29 PM Bear-100: https://dpaste.com/5RAAJLNHG
05:30 PM Bear-100: Sorry about that.
05:30 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Region 0: I/O ports at e010 [size=8]
05:30 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Region 1: I/O ports at e000 [size=8]
05:31 PM Bear-100: Yes I see those.
05:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Parallel_Port_Tester
05:31 PM Bear-100: I will try it with both addresses.
05:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yes, try that
05:32 PM JT-Shop2: Bear-100: you can use my parallel port tester to check with
05:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's likely the second one, but try both
05:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: he is
05:33 PM Bear-100: I will use a jumper cable directely on the parallel port to eliminate any issue with the parallel port cable.
05:33 PM JT-Shop2: cool
05:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: loadrt hal_parport cfg="0xe010 out" for example in that hal file
05:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: loadrt hal_parport cfg="0xe000 out" 2nd example in that hal file
05:35 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] thanks
05:35 PM * Bear-100 testing parallel port.
05:36 PM JT-Shop2: someone find me a brass #14-20 round head screw...
05:37 PM * CaptHindsight[m] installs Fedora 35 Sunday to test, Tuesday Fedora 36 is launched ...... thanks
05:40 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, https://www.lowes.ca/product/machine-screws/hillman-14-20-brass-plated-pan-head-slotted-standard-sae-machine-screws-139182
05:40 PM Tom_L: oops.. plated
05:41 PM JT-Shop2: they say they have brass but they can't find them lol
05:42 PM Tom_L: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-14-20-Slotted-Drive-Machine-Screws-2-Count/4686775
05:42 PM Bear-100: Using a male to male jumper wire I connected each ground pin to pin 1 but the color in the gui stays red for pin 1.
05:42 PM JT-Shop2: that's the one I looked for Monday
05:42 PM Tom_L: mmm
05:42 PM JT-Shop2: O
05:43 PM JT-Shop2: I'll check Cape lowes monday when I take momma to the doctor
05:43 PM Tom_L: Material
05:43 PM Tom_L: Brass
05:43 PM Tom_L: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-14-20-Slotted-Drive-Machine-Screws-2-Count/4686783
05:44 PM JT-Shop2: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-14-20-Slotted-Drive-Machine-Screws-2-Count/4686783
05:44 PM JT-Shop2: cape shows where they should be :)
05:44 PM Tom_L: that other brand is plated
05:44 PM Tom_L: blue hawk seems to be the real thing
05:45 PM Tom_L: hillman
05:45 PM Tom_L: fake :)
05:45 PM JT-Shop2: I'm on a mission to complete the restoring of the 100 year old Stanley #5 plane
05:45 PM Tom_L: i figured something like that
05:45 PM XXCoder: your own plane, or hired to?
05:45 PM JT-Shop2: #14 is 0.220"
05:45 PM JT-Shop2: mine
05:45 PM XXCoder: nice
05:46 PM JT-Shop2: now that I can sharpen plane blades to crazy sharp they are nice to use
05:46 PM Bear-100: Tried a paper clip in pin 1 with one lead of the multimeter to the paper clip and the other lead of the multimeter to the computers case (ground). When I push the button on the tester for pin 1 there in no change in the voltage reading.
05:47 PM Bear-100: Am I using the testing program wrong?
05:47 PM JT-Shop2: found some new handles for that plane, cleaned and painted so it looks nice with polished brass screws
05:47 PM Bear-100: I will try the other address.
05:49 PM JT-Shop2: try an input, might be easier to do with only two hands
05:52 PM Bear-100: With the other address Iย  tested with the multimeter touching paperclip in pin1 and other lead on the case. Then clicked on all the output buttons no change in voltage.
05:52 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop2: hey, how ya sharpening the plane blades?
05:53 PM roguish[m]: stones?
05:53 PM Tom_L: diamonds
05:53 PM roguish[m]: jig, fixture? free hand?
05:54 PM Bear-100: JT-Shop2 I tried connecting a ground pin to pin 11 busy which was red with a male to male jumper wire and it stayed red.
05:54 PM JT-Shop2: Japanese water stones 800-8000 grit then leather polish
05:54 PM * Tom_L bets they shine
05:54 PM roguish[m]: ah, nice.
05:55 PM Bear-100: What else should I try. I am starting to think that this parallel port is not going to work.
05:55 PM Tom_L: i finally found my pp c test file
05:55 PM Bear-100: parallel port card
05:55 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop2: check this https://hidatool.com/
05:55 PM JT-Shop2: http://www.veritastools.com/products/Page.aspx?p=144
05:55 PM roguish[m]: a very neat place
05:56 PM Tom_L: roguish[m], is it gonna cost me money if i click?
05:56 PM roguish[m]: it's in Berkeley.
05:56 PM JT-Shop2: I do the back then put the bevel in the veritas
05:56 PM roguish[m]: Tom_L: could.........
05:57 PM Tom_L: been wanting to machine some brass but not sure what to make. it just looks so nice when it's machined....
05:57 PM Tom_L: at least for a bit
05:57 PM XXCoder: 2 way bolt and 2 nuts to match? ;)
05:58 PM XXCoder: not easy to do
05:58 PM JT-Shop2: I just got one of these https://www.lie-nielsen.com/products/tapered-saws-tapered-dovetail-saw-?path=dovetail-saws&node=4145
05:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Cube/Cube_small.jpg
05:58 PM JT-Shop2: very nice cut for sure
05:59 PM XXCoder: nice but wayy too expensive for me lol
05:59 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop2, looks too nice to use
05:59 PM XXCoder: 1512 usd for a planer ow
05:59 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, have you priced "good" micrometers?
06:00 PM XXCoder: yeah I have em
06:00 PM Tom_L: no, better than those
06:00 PM XXCoder: $200 and $100,
06:00 PM Tom_L: i have the same mitsu you do i think
06:00 PM Tom_L: add another zero
06:00 PM XXCoder: is that for meter long one?
06:01 PM XXCoder: damn misread
06:01 PM XXCoder: yeah I dont know of any 2k mic
06:01 PM JT-Shop2: Powermatic is supposed to ship my 15HH the 20th https://powermatic.com/1791213
06:02 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop2did you win the mega power ball lotto ??????
06:03 PM XXCoder: I have mityoyto mic, digital, it cost $230 something?
06:03 PM roguish[m]: guess ya can't take it with ya.
06:03 PM Tom_L: he's collecting SS now :)
06:03 PM Tom_L: or spending it...
06:03 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: where is there 2000 mic?
06:03 PM roguish[m]: Tom_L: don't be knocking SS.
06:03 PM roguish[m]: it's all good
06:03 PM Tom_L: o
06:03 PM Tom_L: i'm not.. i'm not that far from it
06:03 PM XXCoder: im imanaging very large mic or sets 1"-3' sets
06:04 PM roguish[m]: i'm in about 2 months now..........
06:04 PM XXCoder: im on da version of ss. again. it sucks
06:05 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, i can't find them now i forgot what i searched for before but it may have been a set
06:05 PM JT-Shop2: crap they moved it out to the 25th now
06:05 PM roguish[m]: 'da' ????
06:05 PM XXCoder: set would make sense
06:05 PM XXCoder: roguish[m]: disability
06:05 PM JT-Shop2: roguish[m]: lets just say I'm not saving any for the kids... if there is some when I die they can have it
06:05 PM roguish[m]: ooooooooooo. ok
06:06 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, measures sub micron levels
06:06 PM XXCoder: crazy. my best mic can handle down to only .0001"
06:06 PM JT-Shop2: I've used crap tools all my life and now is the time to use good tools
06:06 PM roguish[m]: the flow of money makes the world go round........ sure as shit, don't leave it to the gov't
06:08 PM roguish[m]: and like Rev. Ike said, 'The lack of money is the root of all evil.'
06:08 PM XXCoder: dunno what to do with my tools lol I dont know if I will ever work as cnc machinist again
06:08 PM roguish[m]: a late night preacher in the 70's
06:09 PM JT-Shop2: must have not been on my channels
06:09 PM Tom_L: https://shop.mitutoyo.eu/web/mitutoyo/en/mitutoyo/01.02.01.001/Digital%20Micrometer%20QuantuMike%20IP65/$catalogue/mitutoyoData/PR/293-140-30/index.xhtml
06:09 PM roguish[m]: LA
06:09 PM Tom_L: that might be the series XXCoder
06:10 PM Tom_L: did you stay up late watching tammy fae?
06:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_port use the ground pins not the shield
06:11 PM XXCoder: more fancy than mine, though bit lesser dust resistance (ip67 on mine, that ones ip65)
06:11 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop2: https://face2faceafrica.com/article/reverend-ike-the-popular-black-televangelist-of-the-1970s-who-worshipped-wealth
06:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.4/html/hal_parallel_port.html
06:12 PM roguish[m]: haven't really thought of him for years......
06:12 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] I did both ground pins and case for both addresses nothing seems to be working.
06:12 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, maximum permissible error: ยฑ1 ยตm
06:13 PM XXCoder: .000039"
06:13 PM Tom_L: ยฑ.00002"
06:14 PM roguish[m]: frick, it's 4. rum and tonic time on the deck...........
06:14 PM XXCoder: .000039" is near 1 um (too lazy hunt down proper u)
06:14 PM Tom_L: https://www.msi-viking.com/Mitutoyo-293-130-10-MDH-High-accuracy-Sub-Micron-Micrometer-0-1-inch
06:14 PM Tom_L: i knew i could find it
06:15 PM XXCoder: 1.6k dang fancy one
06:15 PM XXCoder: I'd always close it in case when not in use
06:15 PM Tom_L: just don't use it near a welder.. he'd use it for a clamp
06:15 PM XXCoder: hell, id not bring it anywhere any welder
06:16 PM XXCoder: "Body heat transferred to the instrument is reduced by a removable heat shield, minimizing the error caused by thermal expansion of the frame when performing handheld measurements. "
06:16 PM Tom_L: that's without the calibration certificate
06:16 PM Tom_L: that would add some more $$$
06:16 PM XXCoder: "contact me with quote"
06:17 PM XXCoder: honestly id use that ONLY for qa room
06:17 PM * JT-Shop2 does his best Roy Underhill impression... in red
06:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: have to be temp controlled or you can watch the reading change by warming it in your hands
06:17 PM Tom_L: didn't want you to think i was full of BS
06:18 PM JT-Shop2: it has a heat shield
06:18 PM XXCoder: tom didnt think you was, just had hard time thinking why it would be so expensive
06:19 PM XXCoder: though olvious to me now. move dot to left on precision, move dot to right on price
06:19 PM Tom_L: the girls in qc had to spend some extra time on em
06:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: oh .1 micron
06:20 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yeah 100nm is going to be expensive so really not that bad at $1600
06:20 PM XXCoder: the caliper I used was I think, 10k. it was longer than meter long
06:20 PM XXCoder: man did I handle that VERY carefull
06:20 PM XXCoder: not even tiny distance drop
06:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.nist.gov/system/files/documents/2017/05/09/doe-scale-of-things-18-jan-05.pdf
06:21 PM XXCoder: in least, nthey said it was 10k, I see prices of 4k roughly
06:23 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] thanks for sharing http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.4/html/hal_parallel_port.html
06:23 PM Bear-100: Was there something in particular you thought I should try based on that link?
06:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just making sure that you have a good pinout
06:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I don't see why your LPT doesn't work
06:25 PM XXCoder: tom I cant find one I used
06:25 PM JT-Shop2: Bear-100: some pci parallel port cards don't work... Jon Elson finds even the one that worked last time may not work this time
06:25 PM XXCoder: too tired and headachy to search well
06:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you can check if you are on the correct pins by identifying that string of Ground pins all one after the other
06:26 PM XXCoder: I recall it was over 3 feet long. 4 maybe?
06:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bear-100: 19 - 25 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e0/Parallel_port_pinouts.svg/350px-Parallel_port_pinouts.svg.png
06:27 PM JT-Shop2: so there really is a Bearden near Knoxville
06:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop2: he got the best card
06:27 PM JT-Shop2: good
06:27 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] okay
06:28 PM * JT-Shop2 wanders inside for the night
06:28 PM CaptHindsight[m]: easy to get the pins wrong
06:28 PM Bear-100: So I could just buy from JT-Shop2
06:28 PM Tom_L: why of course!
06:28 PM CaptHindsight[m]: all those ground pins should read 0 ohms between each other
06:28 PM Bear-100: Do they have a website?
06:29 PM Bear-100: CaptHindsight[m] I will check the resistance of the ground pins.
06:29 PM Tom_L: what was said about parallel cables is the cheap ones don't bring all the wires to the pins
06:29 PM Tom_L: so they may not work for that reason
06:29 PM XXCoder: yeah. though not sure would seek for correct cables
06:30 PM XXCoder: printer cables dont use all pins I think so those tend to be missing wires
06:30 PM XXCoder: could be wrong
06:33 PM * CaptHindsight[m] heading out the work with AC's
07:07 PM roycroft: i'm the one who said that
07:07 PM roycroft: and yes, the reason is that parallel printers did not/do not use all the pins, so the less expensive cables only wire the pins that are used for the printer
07:08 PM roycroft: a db25 connector is not a parallel printer connector - it's a db25 connector
07:08 PM XXCoder: roy thanks for confirming
07:08 PM roycroft: it was also traditionally used for rs-232 ports, among other things
07:08 PM roycroft: and rs-232 often uses fewer pins that a parallel printer
07:08 PM roycroft: and often more
07:08 PM Tom_L: and opposite gender connectors
07:09 PM roycroft: when well behaved :)
07:09 PM Tom_L: then along came scsi
07:09 PM * roycroft forgot how much work edge banding is
07:10 PM roycroft: i did remember that my edge banding machine is really fiddly, and slower than ironing the banding on by hand
07:10 PM roycroft: so i switched to hand ironing early on in the process
07:12 PM XXCoder: ah theres vector for endmill only. nice. I do have endmill only svg file also
07:13 PM Tom_L: just put it in with the rest of the laundry
07:14 PM * roycroft heads off to meet friends for dinner

07:34 PM _unreal_: I've come up with a final solution and am now cad/building on it
