12:06 AM Alicrow-phone: It's belt drive, and I was turning the leadscrew directly so that's not where the backlash is.
01:33 AM Deejay: moin
01:59 AM randy: morning
03:28 AM TurBoss: morning
03:30 AM silopolis[m]: morning 🙂
04:53 AM Loetmichel: *hehe*... Just "fixed" my phones headphone jack... THAT was easy... jkust had to get out 10 years of accumulated and compressed to a nearly concrete like state of lint :)
04:54 AM Tom_L: morning
05:03 AM * Tom_L gives Loetmichel an upgraded cellphone https://images.collection.cooperhewitt.org/331433_227fe8662d6281fc_b.jpg
05:03 AM Loetmichel: Tom_L: i had one of these
05:03 AM Loetmichel: or at least the direct following model
05:09 AM Loetmichel: btw: the phone in question is a Samsung note3. not QUITE as old as the StarTac in your picture.
05:10 AM Loetmichel: s/starTac/DynaTac
05:11 AM Loetmichel: those DynaTacs are the reason why some germans (me included) still call cellphones "sprechender Knochen" (Talking Bone) :)
05:27 AM JT-Cave: morning
08:09 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: hi folks I'm struggling w a following error on the rotary axis of an open loop stepper CNC I built...any experts here that can weigh in? I posted on the forums, but haven't gotten much help. https://forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/45822-following-error-rotary-axis#242316
08:16 AM Tom_L: could help but i'm out the door
08:16 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: not urgent....just looking for some next steps on how to troubleshoot and figure it out. appreciate any help
08:17 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL_SHOP_2.8.2/
08:17 AM Tom_L: my configs
08:17 AM Tom_L: anything with _A is part of the rotary
08:17 AM Tom_L: later...
08:17 AM joeyjoejoe0351[m: Picked up an HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini. Not as great as I'd hoped, ~40,000-50,000 latency. I am using a MESA card though so it should be fine.
08:22 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: thanks Tom - I will take a look
09:21 AM GTKplusplus6432[: Obvious question, but do you have enough headroom in the max stepggen velocity and acceleration values compared to the joint values?
09:41 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: I _think_ so. I'm using a Mesa 7176 and my max velocities/accels are pretty low since this is a little hobby machine. I would appreciate someone double-checking me tho - my .ini and .hal files are in the forum post I linked above.
09:51 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: This is what I have in my .ini for the rotary:... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/6deec90f88a12ec9581a97e365b008cead406454)
10:04 AM GTKplusplus6432[: Those values look right, but I'd try and raise the stepgen values a but and see what happens
10:09 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: like how high? 600 & 1500 respectively?
10:11 AM GTKplusplus6432[: Seems reasonable
10:11 AM WoodGuy1869[m]: ok will give that a shot...appreciate the feedback. won't be able to try til this evening.
11:45 AM * joeyjoejoe0351[m uploaded an image: (1423KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/dqEOqpSnUZAVCtdcvuOSxczw/unknown.png >
11:45 AM joeyjoejoe0351[m: to confirm, running this with 5V to test basic connectivty with linuxcnc is all good? Need to swap FIELD POWER jumper to be VIN SEP
11:52 AM unterhaus: It has always worked for me to hook up ethernet/5v to a mesa card for testing
12:00 PM joeyjoejoe0351[m: Just wanted to ensure I got this done correctly and don't fry it 🙂
12:06 PM joeyjoejoe0351[m: Oh shoot. I guess, were you able to see the picture? I suppose this is the IRC/discord link, not sure if it's copies the pictures across somehow to an image host?
12:22 PM unterhaus: I saw the picture. I'm not sure what your concern is exactly
12:22 PM unterhaus: when I'm just testing for connectivity, I use a modified usb cable to go to the computer
12:22 PM unterhaus: but a separate supply is better, and ethernet is isolated
12:23 PM unterhaus: as usual with a separate supply, some amount of study of the manual/data sheets is necessary so you don't set up a big voltage differential that the mesa can't handle
12:23 PM unterhaus: most power supplies have an isolated V-, so it's not ground
01:00 PM coralgoat: My internet connection is better today than the other day.
01:00 PM coralgoat: Today mesaus.com linuxcnc.org are working for me.
01:00 PM coralgoat: CaptHindsight[m], thanks for sharing <https://mesaus.com/ethernet-cnc-solutions/> the other day.
01:00 PM coralgoat: Now that it is opening for me it is a helpful resource.
01:00 PM coralgoat: Looking at mesanet and mesaus it looks like several are out of stock.
01:00 PM coralgoat: The result is that it looks like there are two options for an ethernet connection.
01:01 PM coralgoat: 7I92 and 7I78
01:01 PM coralgoat: measus: <https://mesaus.com/product/7i92m/> and <https://mesaus.com/product/7i78/>
01:01 PM coralgoat: mesanet: <http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=306&search=7i92> and <http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=121&search=7i78>
01:01 PM coralgoat: or
01:01 PM coralgoat: 7I80HD-25 and 7I33TA
01:01 PM coralgoat: mesaus: <https://mesaus.com/product/7i80hd-25/> and <https://mesaus.com/product/7i33ta/>
01:01 PM coralgoat: mesanet: <http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=61&search=7i80HD> and <http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=74&search=7i33TA>
01:01 PM coralgoat: <https://mesaus.com/product/7i33ta/> says that "The 7I33TA is a 4 axis analog servo interfaces".
01:01 PM coralgoat: As I am working with stepper motors does that mean that the 7I80HD-25 and 7I33TA will not work for me?
01:03 PM coralgoat: In comparison <https://mesaus.com/product/7i78/> says "The 7I78 is designed for interfacing up to 4 Axis of step & dir step motor or servo motor drives".
01:12 PM miss0r: jebus... When you thought you knew how expensive building materials have gotten.. jeeks. I am looking at replacing my workshop that is currently 22m^2 with a 60m^2 one and have the old one torn down.. I might have to save a few more years :o
01:12 PM miss0r: Even a basic model will set me back $120k US
01:12 PM roycroft: indeed, building materials have gone through the roof in price
01:13 PM miss0r: Yeah. I thought I knew, but this is just insane
01:13 PM roycroft: they have, on averege, doubled or tripled, depending on the material, since the pandemic started
01:13 PM roycroft: and baltic birch plywood has almost quadrupled since the war started
01:14 PM miss0r: I'm sure the "special miletary operation" is not helping either
01:14 PM miss0r: indeed
01:14 PM XXCoder: miss0r: how much of those sheets can you reuse?
01:14 PM miss0r: XXCoder: What sheets?
01:15 PM XXCoder: old shop plywood sheets etc
01:15 PM miss0r: the only plywood sheets in this workshop are two tool mount sheets on a wall and the roof ones with that tar/tarmach stuff burned to it
01:15 PM miss0r: so... nothing
01:16 PM XXCoder: ahh drat
01:16 PM miss0r: This is a light concrete building
01:16 PM XXCoder: wonder if metal sheets are actually cheaper lol
01:16 PM miss0r: (I don't know the proper english term) but basically concrete blocks that are filled with tiny gass boubles
01:16 PM roguish[m]: roycroft: go check romex. wicked expensive now.
01:17 PM XXCoder: wonder if building with those blocks is cheaper now
01:17 PM miss0r: CUrrently it would seem that the cheapest solution is a hot-dip galvanised frame and metal sheets
01:18 PM miss0r: but then there the styrofoam-like insulation I would need under the concrete floor
01:18 PM miss0r: that is almost impossible to buy in bulk, and has been for over a year
01:19 PM miss0r: plus.. I need ALOT of concrete :D the floor should be minimum 150mm thick, with steel reinforcement
01:19 PM * miss0r is seriously considering just outsourcing the project alltogether
01:21 PM XXCoder: wish shop exists for me lol but not enough money
01:22 PM miss0r: yeah.. My economy will take a serious hit with this one. But I honnestly need more space for my company to move to the next level. I have to decline alot of work, because I simply do not have the space to take it in
01:23 PM roycroft: i'm anticipating that will be the case with me soon after i go full-time with my business
01:23 PM roycroft: i'm keeping an eye on shop spaces for lease, so i can budget for that
01:31 PM roycroft: so my van died while i was at the home depot today
01:31 PM roycroft: i had to have it towed home, and the problem is really weird - it won't start, but the battery is good
01:31 PM roycroft: aaa tried jumpstarting it but could not
01:31 PM XXCoder: sounds like starter issue
01:32 PM XXCoder: might even be starter soleoid
01:32 PM roycroft: i think the positive battery cable has a problem
01:32 PM XXCoder: or that
01:32 PM roycroft: it sucks, because i need some sheets of melamine today
01:32 PM roycroft: and those are at lowe's - my next stop after home depot
01:33 PM roycroft: lowes want $80 to deliver them, and won't schedule delivery before thursday
01:42 PM coralgoat: roycroft, where I am there are some good local delivery group that offer less expensive delivery than the big box stores (just did an internet search to find some). I have also found good delivery groups on local classified ad sites.
01:42 PM roycroft: home depot also want $79 to deliver it
01:43 PM roycroft: but they charge more than lowe's for the product, otherwise i'd have just purchased it there, plus, i get a 5% discount if i use my lowe's card
01:43 PM roycroft: i can probably rent a van for less than $79
01:43 PM coralgoat: The search terms I used were courier and delivery.
01:43 PM XXCoder: uhaul? lol
01:44 PM roycroft: yes
01:44 PM XXCoder: yeah $20 plus miles
01:44 PM roycroft: $19.99 + $0.89/mile for a cargo van
01:44 PM roycroft: i need to drive it for 10 miles
01:45 PM roycroft: so <$30
01:45 PM XXCoder: indeed
01:45 PM XXCoder: well plus fuel
01:45 PM XXCoder: not much
01:46 PM roycroft: for 10 miles the consumed fuel will not be measureable
01:47 PM XXCoder: yeah, though van may be barely above refuel required line
01:48 PM XXCoder: in any case, the worse case its still pretty lot below what they charge for delivery, plus delay
01:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: coralgoat: if you need Step and Dir then only the Step and Dir boards will work for you
01:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you also need matching headers and or DB connections between FPGA and daughter cards if it's not an all in one
01:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: think some one was working on a tree diagram for all the LCNC compatible mesa cards
02:04 PM roycroft: i'm going to rent a van from home depot for $19 and use it to pick up the materials at lowes :)
02:05 PM roycroft: and i have an almost full 5 gallon can of gas for my lawn mower that i bought at pre-war prices
02:05 PM roycroft: i can top it off with that
02:07 PM XXCoder: nice lol
02:08 PM XXCoder: you can use my mower gas if you get here. we dont own gas mower anymore lol
02:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: 80+ year old gas might not work so well :)
02:18 PM WoodGuy1869[m]: Just had a chance to test this...guess it really was that simple. It worked immediately.
02:18 PM WoodGuy1869[m]: thanks for the help!! pretty easy answer
02:21 PM XXCoder: nice
02:25 PM GTKplusplus6432[: Sometimes it's easy, luckily
02:48 PM coralgoat: CaptHindsight[m], is using stepper motor enough to know that I would need step and dir and a result a step and dir board?
02:48 PM coralgoat: CaptHindsight[m], it looked like the all in one boards were sold out.
02:49 PM coralgoat: This is how I think things would be connected if I go with 7I92 and 7I78.
02:49 PM coralgoat: Linuxcnc computer connected by ethernet cable to 7I92.
02:50 PM coralgoat: 7I92 connected by parallel port cable to 7I78.
02:50 PM coralgoat: 7I78 connected using screw terminal and wires to stepper motor drivers and spindle controller.
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the main problem is finding a match that is in stock
02:51 PM coralgoat: CaptHindsight[m], yeah. It looks like I can do it with 7I92 and 7I78 which are both in stock.
02:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: damn you capitalists with all your profit above all!
02:51 PM joeyjoejoe0351[m: I've removed 5V logic power. If I want to run my MESA from 1 power supply, do I want to apply 24V to FIELD, or to VIN? Right now 24V to VIN, I get an orange light, but no connection detected to board.
02:52 PM coralgoat: 7I92 and 7I78 were both listed on <https://mesaus.com/ethernet-cnc-solutions/>.
02:53 PM coralgoat: From reading the description for 7I78 it looks like it has 4 axis and spindle control.
02:53 PM coralgoat: Would the 7I78 also be able to handle 3 limit switches and 1 coolant?
02:55 PM coralgoat: Is the 7I78's parallel port female? Knowing that would help me get the right parallel port cable.
02:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: what do the data sheets show?
02:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I never memorized the part numbers and specs
02:59 PM coralgoat: When I search <http://www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/7i78man.pdf> for male or female I get no results. Would there be a better search term for female/male parallel port?
03:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: page 3
03:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sorry page 4
03:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: P1 is the DB25F connector on the 7I78 that connects to the FPGA card
03:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 7i92 comes in three different options
03:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://mesaus.com/product/7i92m/ is in stock and M for male
03:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: they also have gender changers for the DB connectors
03:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: cables also come with different options, M/M, M/F, F/F
03:06 PM coralgoat: CaptHindsight[m], thanks for mentioning the DB25 gender changers. I found some <https://www.amazon.com/s?k=db25+gender+changer&sprefix=db25+gen%2Caps%2C195>. That solves the issue of the gender of the connectors.
03:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I keep them around in mnay flavors and sizes
03:12 PM coralgoat: Looking at <http://www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/7i78man.pdf> page 3 it looks like the screw terminal that maybe could be used for limit switches and coolant are encoder, rs-422 and nc. This is based on first eliminating the 4 step/dir and spindle.
03:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: time to get the AC's fired back up
03:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: high 80's through Friday
04:00 PM Tom_L: 92F currently
04:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: was just in the mid 30's the other night
04:04 PM roycroft: well that went decently
04:05 PM roycroft: i got my load hauled, and returned the rental van 4 minutes before it was due
04:05 PM roycroft: but when i topped off the tank, it took 6.5 gallons
04:05 PM roycroft: this for 17 miles of driving
04:05 PM roycroft: home depot ended up refunding the entire fuel amount, and they also wrote off the van rental charge for my trouble
04:05 PM roycroft: so it cost me nothing :)
04:06 PM JT-Shop: while Lowes showed 5 packs of #14-20 x 2 round head brass screws the guy couldn't find them
04:06 PM roycroft: i wisely did not tell them that i had rented it to drive to lowe's
04:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: hole in the gas tank?
04:06 PM roycroft: jt-shop: i was under a time constraint today, and did not have a chance to look for those fasteners
04:06 PM roycroft: but i need to go to lowe's again this week (and not haul sheet goods)
04:06 PM roycroft: i'll check then
04:06 PM JT-Shop: I was too, the wife was feeling ill so I had to hurry
04:06 PM roycroft: capthindsight: they don't check the fuel level
04:07 PM roycroft: they ask the customer to show them the receipt for the fuel
04:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah
04:07 PM roycroft: i said "oh, the last guy who rented it filled up his wife's car and showed you that receipt"
04:07 PM roycroft: and they agreed that something like that was what happened
04:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and i drive 2 miles from a fill up and Avis wants to charge me an extra $40 for a top off charge
04:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: scammers
04:08 PM roycroft: life during wartime can be expensive
04:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: this was pre-war late 2021
04:08 PM roycroft: anyway, it's 1:52
04:09 PM roycroft: i'm at where i planned on being at 9:00
04:09 PM roycroft: so i guess i'm behind schedule
04:09 PM coralgoat: I found this <http://mesaus.com/pci-and-pcie-solutions/>.
04:09 PM coralgoat: Would 6I25 and 7I78 work with Linuxcnc?
04:09 PM coralgoat: 6I25 and 7I78 are both in stock.
04:09 PM coralgoat: <https://mesaus.com/product/6i25/> and <https://mesaus.com/product/7i78/>
04:09 PM coralgoat: or
04:09 PM coralgoat: <http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=58&search=6I25> and <http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=121&search=7I78>.
04:09 PM XXCoder: roycroft: well glad it went decently
04:09 PM coralgoat: I am asking because I know not all PCIe parallel port cards work with Linuxcnc.
04:10 PM JT-Shop: coralgoat, yes
04:10 PM coralgoat: JT-Shop, thanks.
04:10 PM JT-Shop: you will need this cable https://mesaus.com/product/db25m-db25m/
04:11 PM JT-Shop: btw, I'm mesaus.com
04:11 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/mesa/mesact/index.html
04:11 PM roycroft: i'm not having fun with soldworks drawings at this point
04:11 PM JT-Shop: configuration tool coralgoat
04:11 PM roycroft: it autodimensions some things ok, but other things it refuses to dimension, either automatically or manually
04:11 PM roycroft: like some critical dimensions that i need
04:11 PM * JT-Shop goes to clean the AC filters to be ready to turn them on tomorrow
04:12 PM roycroft: and when i try to do them manually it does not complain about being overdimensioned or anything - it just refuses
04:12 PM JT-Shop: that's odd
04:12 PM roycroft: so now i have to go back to the model, measure, and write them in by hand
04:12 PM roycroft: because i don't have time to figure this out right now
04:12 PM roycroft: i also set it to do fractional dimensions but it insists on doing decimal
04:13 PM roycroft: and some of my stuff is dimensioned to 32nds of an inch
04:13 PM roycroft: i only have decimal equivalents of eights memorised
04:13 PM roycroft: and some 16ths
04:13 PM roycroft: but not any 32nds
04:15 PM roycroft: i'm sure it's something stupid i'm doing or not doing, but it's harder than it should be to find out what's going on
04:16 PM coralgoat: Besides different form factors and what cables are used for the connection to the Linuxcnc computer are there benefits of one of these over the other:
04:16 PM coralgoat: * 7I92 and 7I78
04:16 PM coralgoat: * 6I25 and 7I78
04:18 PM JT-Shop: the 6i25 could generate step faster than 7i92 by a tiny bit, the 7i92 is Ethernet so it can live in the same cabinet as the 7i78
04:19 PM JT-Shop: I used to have a note about that somewhere
04:20 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, you can enter fractions and if the part default is decimal then the fractions are converted
04:21 PM JT-Shop: you can also do math when entering a dimension
04:21 PM Tom_L: yeah most cad lets you do that
04:22 PM Tom_L: bit on the warm side today
04:22 PM Tom_L: yard is done though
04:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop: have you considered expanding your tree diagram of Mesa cards to show connector compatibility and more cards?
04:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I am surprised that Mesa doesn't already have one
04:24 PM coralgoat: JT-Shop, is there anything special about <https://mesaus.com/product/db25m-db25m/> or will any DB25M to DB25M IEEE 1284 cable work. I might have an old one here if I can find it.
04:24 PM JT-Shop: CaptHindsight[m], been pretty busy lately
04:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no rush
04:25 PM JT-Shop: also with a 7i92 you need to use the NIC on the mother board and if you want to connect to the machine via the lan you will need another nic or use wifi
04:26 PM JT-Shop: if it's a DB25M to DB25M IEEE 1284 cable will work, but most are not IEEE 1284
04:26 PM * roycroft says "screw it" and draws the parts in autocad so he can dimension them sanely and quickly
04:26 PM JT-Shop: CaptHindsight[m], that's a good suggestion
04:27 PM roycroft: jt-shop: the assembly is decimal, but i set the drawing created from it to fractional
04:27 PM roycroft: perhaps that's the problem
04:27 PM roycroft: perhaps i need the model to be fractional as well as the drawing
04:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 1/4mm
04:28 PM coralgoat: JT-Shop, is <https://gnipsel.com/mesa/mesact/index.html> an alternative to <https://gnipsel.com/mesa/mesact/index.html>?
04:28 PM coralgoat: typo
04:28 PM coralgoat: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/pncconf.html
04:29 PM coralgoat: JT-Shop, what city does mesaus ship from? I looked for it on the website but did not see it.
04:34 PM JT-Shop: I ship from Missouri, Mesa ships from Cali
04:34 PM JT-Shop: where is the typo?
04:35 PM XXCoder: wrong url I premuse
04:36 PM JT-Shop: dunno
04:37 PM Tom_L: maybe he meant pcw's site
04:37 PM Tom_L: compared to yours
04:44 PM roycroft: there, all drawn and dimensioned in autocad
04:44 PM Tom_L: so now whacha gonna do with it?
04:44 PM XXCoder: take it out of screen and its real
04:46 PM roycroft: i have to figure this out - i can't model everything in sw and then draw the individual parts in acad
04:46 PM roycroft: but i have to get through today
04:46 PM Tom_L: aww c'mon
05:01 PM coralgoat: JT-Shop, is <https://gnipsel.com/mesa/mesact/index.html> an alternative to <http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/pncconf.html>?
05:04 PM JT-Shop: mesact goes way beyond pncconf, you can test your pc, flash cards as well as create a clean configuration files
05:04 PM F4HVX5732[m]: It's very difficult to get a MESA board, the only left in stock is the RPI one, I guess I will start to build my cnc plasma with it, even if it's not very nice in an CEM point of view
05:04 PM F4HVX5732[m]: s/CEM/EM/
05:04 PM JT-Shop: mesact reads in the ini file so if you make changes and run it again your safe
05:05 PM JT-Shop: F4HVX5732[m], what country?
05:05 PM F4HVX5732[m]: France, Europe
05:05 PM JT-Shop: ah EU Surplus?
05:05 PM F4HVX5732[m]: yes
05:06 PM F4HVX5732[m]: they told me that the main MESA factory is not able to tell them when they will ship them boards
05:06 PM JT-Shop: unfortunately I can no longer ship to anywhere in the EU due to EU regulations
05:06 PM JT-Shop: the chip situation is very bad at the moment
05:07 PM _unreal_: ?
05:07 PM F4HVX5732[m]: so, it's not an FPGA shortage ? only a regulation problem ?
05:07 PM F4HVX5732[m]: do you have a link to the related regulation ?
05:07 PM JT-Shop: the board shortage is due to FPGA, ethernet chips, power chips etc, I no longer ship to EU because of EU regulations
05:08 PM F4HVX5732[m]: so, both 😄
05:08 PM F4HVX5732[m]: so there is no ways 😦
05:08 PM JT-Shop: I have to register and collect VAT for any EU country I ship to
05:08 PM JT-Shop: best wait till EU Surplus gets some 7i96S cards
05:09 PM JT-Shop: I refuse to collect taxes for other countries
05:09 PM F4HVX5732[m]: I can give a VAT number so you dont have to charge for the VAT
05:09 PM JT-Shop: last time I tried I could not ship without some number, I'd have to see what that is again
05:10 PM JT-Shop: let me see
05:10 PM F4HVX5732[m]: I will order with a registred company, so you dont have to pay any tax
05:10 PM JT-Shop: https://blog.stamps.com/2021/06/21/shipping-to-eu-new-vat-rules-starting-july-1-2021/
05:12 PM JT-Shop: send me an email to sales at mesaus dot com and I'll check in the morning what Stamps required
05:12 PM F4HVX5732[m]: thank you 🙂
05:14 PM F4HVX5732[m]: but if you dont have any bord in stock it will not solve the problem
05:20 PM JT-Shop: I have a few 7i80HD-25 and daughter cards for it
05:21 PM JT-Shop: https://mesaus.com/product-category/idc50-pin-cards/
05:22 PM F4HVX5732[m]: sweet !
05:23 PM Tom_L: plenty of IO on that one for sure
05:25 PM F4HVX5732[m]: almost too much for my use, ahah !
05:35 PM F4HVX5732[m]: and about the chip shortage, is there a plan ? to make a new board with available parts ? or waiting for parts ?
05:35 PM Tom_L: he's started using an alternate FPGA but takes time to get it reprogrammed etc
05:35 PM JT-Shop: Mesa is making a 7i96S with a different FPGA
05:36 PM Tom_L: i think he's located most of the other parts
05:36 PM JT-Shop: takes time to design, prototype and test
05:36 PM F4HVX5732[m]: but you dont have 7i96S yet ?
05:36 PM JT-Shop: he should have some 7i96S in stock at the end of the month
05:36 PM Tom_L: all the firmware etc has to be updated
05:36 PM JT-Shop: well I have one :) but it's a prototype
05:37 PM F4HVX5732[m]: who is he ? the MESA company ?
05:37 PM Tom_L: yes
05:38 PM XXCoder: thre is no too much or enough. only almost enough and not enough ;)
05:38 PM F4HVX5732[m]: is it you who send card to eusurplus ? or directly MESA ?
05:38 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, is that the card with the daughter card parts built on the main board along with a spindle driver?
05:39 PM JT-Shop: some chips have a 99 week lead time due to a shortage of a component needed to make chips because 5G phones use way more than 4G
05:40 PM JT-Shop: it's the same as the 7i96 basically but has actually more features
05:40 PM Tom_L: is that the one that requires the new mesaflash?
05:40 PM F4HVX5732[m]: I think It will be cheaper to get a MESA 7i96S for me
05:41 PM JT-Shop: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=83_85&product_id=374
05:41 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, yes it has a different FPGA so only the latest mesaflash will work
05:41 PM Tom_L: that's what i wondered
05:41 PM Tom_L: and new bit files
05:42 PM Tom_L: or whatever that brand calls them
05:42 PM JT-Shop: so far he has the .hex files and is working on the .bit files
05:44 PM JT-Shop: yea mesaflash has a new version so I can test for it if a 7i96s is selected
05:57 PM * JT-Shop2 ponders doing something but doesn't feel like it
06:07 PM XXCoder: interesting https://www.printables.com/model/198143-eclipse-style-chisel-and-plane-iron-sharpening-and/related
06:15 PM roycroft: i made my depth setting gauge out of wood
06:21 PM _unreal_: roycroft, sounds like a jewish song
06:21 PM _unreal_: LOL
06:22 PM XXCoder: nice roy
06:25 PM JT-Shop: https://www.woodcraft.com/products/veritas-mk-ii-honing-guide mine has a length setter
06:26 PM * JT-Shop looked at the edge on a chisel under the microscope and was blinded by the refection lol
06:26 PM XXCoder: interesting
06:36 PM joeyjoejoe0351[m: Can I get a PWM gen on my 7i76e? I want that instead of 0-10V analog for my spindle.
06:51 PM _unreal_: I picked up a lot of the hardware I needed just half assed put together the new Y/X arms
06:51 PM _unreal_: for the new cnc
06:52 PM _unreal_: hardware=nuts bolts washers long m3-4's 1/4-20's etc..
06:53 PM _unreal_: I have about 2mm of 360 degree free movement in the Y/x arms
06:53 PM unterhaus: when we did the research project about razer blades, I used to look at them under microscopes occasionally
06:53 PM _unreal_: for alignment
06:53 PM unterhaus: metallurgical microscopes though, no blinding
06:54 PM _unreal_: let me guess, unterhaus that project cut you deep, reallll deep
06:54 PM unterhaus: kevlar gloves, so no
06:54 PM _unreal_: even better
06:54 PM _unreal_: lol
06:54 PM unterhaus: I was a bit worried when they brought in a 100 foot roll of the blade material though
06:55 PM _unreal_: the canvas company that made the cover for my laser etcher got annoyed when they built it. becuaswe I gave them kevlar welding blanket
06:55 PM unterhaus: think about that getting out of hand and having a body part go missing
06:55 PM _unreal_: the LET ME KNOW just how hard it was to cut when they where sewing it
06:55 PM _unreal_: roll with edge?
06:55 PM unterhaus: I never really tested the kevlar gloves too much
06:56 PM unterhaus: yeah, they had ground an edge on it, we were doing some intermediate or finishing step
06:56 PM _unreal_: unterhaus, sounds like a scene in a movie
06:57 PM _unreal_: shewss shewww shewww shewwww shew shew shew GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
06:58 PM _unreal_: damn it I dont want to go shopping
06:58 PM _unreal_: but I need to
06:58 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:58 PM _unreal_: bbiab
06:59 PM _unreal_: man this is going to be an expensive month. just put an other $500 into my stocks, car bill due, and a few other bills.
06:59 PM _unreal_: all I know is I cant wait for this mega short squeeze
06:59 PM _unreal_: GME/AMC to the moon
06:59 PM _unreal_: and my other stocks as well.
07:00 PM _unreal_: LOL if SNDL ran to $40+ I'd make over half a $mill
07:00 PM _unreal_: alone
07:03 PM _unreal_: If I get to it and remember I'll snape a bunch of progress photos of what I've done so far for the new cnc machine
07:03 PM _unreal_: laters
07:26 PM * roycroft is finally milling some wood, about 8 hours later than planned
07:27 PM roycroft: i don't like running the machines at night, but i may be pushing things a little today
07:27 PM roycroft: not past 8, for sure
07:27 PM Tom_L: is it milling or routing?
07:37 PM roycroft: milling
07:37 PM roycroft: jointing/thicknessing/sanding
07:37 PM roycroft: so not horribly, obnoxiously noisy
10:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYdOuUI2IeY
10:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: looks like most woodworking tools are designed around making 100db of noise
10:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: vs https://youtu.be/zNS7Md0-e7A?t=907
10:42 PM roycroft: my hand planes make nowhere near that much noise
10:48 PM roycroft: my filament finally just arrived
10:48 PM Tom_L: kindof a late delivery
10:49 PM XXCoder: geez. they must be busier than usual or something
10:49 PM XXCoder: all orders we did it arrived pretty quick
10:49 PM roycroft: i haven't even opened it
10:49 PM roycroft: but at least it's here
10:50 PM XXCoder: yea
10:50 PM Tom_L: man canada post is getting better
10:50 PM Tom_L: used to take 4 weeks
10:51 PM Tom_L: this last one was only 7 days
10:52 PM Tom_L: and it took a longer route than normal
10:53 PM Tom_L: i never checked to see if that dude got his rotary working
10:53 PM Tom_L: from this AM
10:58 PM Tom_L: mmm seems he fixed it
