12:01 AM _unreal_: Just ordered this, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098DV79ZL/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A13XHSJX1OBXY3 any suggestions on feed rate?
12:10 AM _unreal_: 15krpm
02:16 AM Deejay: moin
03:10 AM mrec: Tom_L: where did you get the controller pid settings from? trying them?
03:10 AM mrec: mine were set like p1-7 300 p1-8 800
03:11 AM mrec: I talked with the controller vendor they recommended to start with P1.7 800/ P1.8 300
03:11 AM mrec: I'm at 800 / 250 now and the result is already lightyears better than with the original controller
03:11 AM mrec: (the original one which cannot be adjusted)
04:06 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:39 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:57 AM Tom_itx: morning
05:58 AM Tom_itx: mrec, trial and error..
05:58 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
06:11 AM Tom_L: mrec, also notice i changed the accel speed which helps it react a little quicker
06:12 AM Tom_L: P1-9
07:21 AM mrec: that controller changes the entire behaviour and my workflow with that machine
07:21 AM MrSunshine: damn, this mesa card was like amazing for my machine compared to software stepgen =)
07:21 AM MrSunshine: its fun to use the computer as its not dog slow due to the stepgen and it cuts like a champ in both speeds and accels =)
08:33 AM mrec: Tom_L: which timing belt did you install?
09:11 AM mrec: those mini lathes are money holes but I think the motor should be okay
09:21 AM Tom_L: the big one or the little one?
09:21 AM Tom_L: mine are GT2 series and the small one i think was 3mm pitch the big one is 5mm pitch
09:22 AM Tom_L: 15mm wide
09:26 AM _unreal_: I want a mini lathe soo bad :(
09:26 AM _unreal_: sigh
09:30 AM mrec: the big motor is fine
09:31 AM mrec: the motor keeps spinning before the belt was loose
09:31 AM mrec: the belt overall is more like something for lego instead for a machine it seems to be too small
09:31 AM mrec: even grandma's sewing machine has a better belt
09:43 AM _unreal_: grandmas sewing machine always has a better belt.
09:43 AM _unreal_: lol
09:55 AM mrec: overall I'm happy with it I can do whatever I want to do and that's important
09:58 AM _unreal_: just opened an other one of these SAT/hd units
09:58 AM _unreal_: both of these one's have 300GB hard drives LOL
09:58 AM _unreal_: I have not seen 300GB drives in for ever
10:24 AM Tom_L: mrec, you will probably want to switch to timing belts now
10:26 AM Tom_L: wind died down, yard is done, sun is out.. it's gonna be a good day
10:27 AM mrec: Tom_L: I'm asking myself if a timing belt can kill the machine
10:27 AM mrec: the v-belt is just sliding through at least
10:27 AM Tom_L: what do you mean?
10:27 AM mrec: I'll do more experiments with it tomorrow
10:27 AM Tom_L: how would it kill the machine?
10:27 AM mrec: if things get suddenly stuck for some reason
10:28 AM Tom_L: that's what estop is for :)
10:28 AM Tom_L: before i used timing belts i was burning belts up all the time
10:28 AM Tom_L: now it's not a concern
10:28 AM mrec: which one do you use right now?
10:29 AM mrec: htd5?
10:29 AM mrec: gt2 seems to be a bit small no?
10:29 AM Tom_L: GT2 5mm
10:29 AM Tom_L: just right
10:30 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Spindle/Motor_mounted1.jpg
10:30 AM Tom_L: both drive and timing are 1:1
10:30 AM mrec: that's a htd belt
10:31 AM Tom_L: gt2 is a series
10:31 AM Tom_L: no it isn't
10:31 AM mrec: the encoder is wired up with gt2
10:31 AM Tom_L: yes
10:31 AM Tom_L: 3mm
10:31 AM Tom_L: and 5mm
10:31 AM Tom_L: look it up
10:31 AM Tom_L: gt2 is a profile
10:31 AM Tom_L: gt3 is the newer version of a similar profile
10:31 AM Tom_L: rounded teeth opposed to squared off
10:33 AM mrec: whenever I enter gt2 5mm belt in google/images nothing looks like that?
10:33 AM mrec: I'm using gt2 for the crossslide here too
10:34 AM mrec: you're using gt3 for the motor?
10:34 AM Tom_L: https://sdp-si.com/tools/center-distance-designer.php
10:34 AM Tom_L: no i'm using GT2 for the motor 5mm
10:34 AM Tom_L: gt3 wasn't that available yet
10:36 AM mrec: you're milling with it that's certainly something different
10:37 AM Tom_L: then get pullies with multiple belts if you're stuck on V belts
10:38 AM Tom_L: or those VVVV belts cars use
10:38 AM mrec: I'm not stuck with it
10:38 AM Tom_L: i couldn't find one of those short enough for my purpose
10:38 AM Tom_L: maybe you could for the lathe since the belt will be longer
10:38 AM mrec: I was looking at those multiple V belts before that looks nice I'm moreover interested in getting some experience with those
10:39 AM Tom_L: they would be the best way to go
10:39 AM Tom_L: quieter for one
10:39 AM Tom_L: and they could slip if they had to
10:40 AM Tom_L: but for me, for instance if i'm tapping.. i don't want any slippage
10:40 AM mrec: I will try to draw the side of the lathe in freecad next week so I can do some better planning there
10:40 AM Tom_L: you shouldn't either if you're cutting threads etc
10:40 AM _unreal_: Tom_L, ? that drive belt is only 5mm?
10:40 AM Tom_L: 5mm pitch
10:40 AM Tom_L: 15mm wide
10:40 AM mrec: slipping doesn't matter when cutting gears
10:41 AM mrec: the encoder is attached to the spindle
10:41 AM _unreal_: OH.... I was like whaaaaa?
10:41 AM _unreal_: I was looking at the main belt drive thinking... 5mm WHAAAA, perspective reference anyone ;)
10:41 AM mrec: _unreal_: that's the key 5mm pitch I was also confused about that because that's not what the search gives you by default when you look for gt2
10:42 AM Tom_L: :)
10:42 AM Tom_L: too damn many reprap
10:42 AM _unreal_: ya the GT2 is the top pully for the encoder
10:42 AM Tom_L: both are gt2 sir
10:42 AM _unreal_: FOR A SECOND I was looking at the thing thinking the main spindle motor was like NEMA17
10:42 AM Tom_L: here we go again....
10:42 AM mrec: threading can seriously make my previous motor stuck
10:42 AM _unreal_: HEHEHEHE
10:43 AM mrec: but that's not the motor problem it's the pid controller problem of the vfd and that one is not adjustable
10:43 AM Tom_L: mrec, so you got the vfd working pretty good now?
10:43 AM _unreal_: so I just pulled the second HD out of these DVR/sat recivers
10:43 AM mrec: it's good now yes but I'm still on the way with it still looking what else it can do
10:43 AM _unreal_: two 300GB hard drives
10:43 AM _unreal_: sata
10:44 AM _unreal_: so i got a nice haul
10:44 AM Tom_L: mrec, add pid to linuxcnc and it will get better
10:44 AM Tom_L: it certainly helped mine
10:44 AM _unreal_: 15 HD'S in total, 7 500GB drives 2 300gb drives, and the rest 160GB drives
10:44 AM mrec: I'm sure :-)
10:44 AM _unreal_: all dumpster pulls
10:45 AM _unreal_: sure its now "old" tech but a free HD is a freee HD
10:45 AM Tom_L: i'd put the 160's back in the dumpster :)
10:45 AM _unreal_: :p
10:45 AM _unreal_: the 160's are for some legacy machines
10:46 AM _unreal_: when I escape this "house" one of my future goals is to setup a few legacy computers
10:46 AM _unreal_: I have them just need space and "FREEDOM"
10:47 AM _unreal_: for the old games 90-mid 2k's
10:47 AM _unreal_: REAL games not this stupid modern PAY ME shit...
10:47 AM _unreal_: I want to show my daughter was it use to be like
10:48 AM _unreal_: oh also I just pulled what I believe to be PCIE x4 DTV cards
10:48 AM _unreal_: 2 of these units had socketed twin recivers
10:48 AM _unreal_: they ARE pcie sockets though I am not 100% sure if they are pci or something custom?
10:49 AM _unreal_: they are for SAT but.... I dont know if the control software for the chipset is in the chip, or if its firmware based. if its firmware based it may just work as a PC DTV reciver
10:50 AM _unreal_: not that I need but will be fun to f.. with
10:53 AM mrec: which settopbox receiver is that?
10:53 AM _unreal_: some euro crap
10:53 AM mrec: I've done some 8x USB DVB-S/S2 receivers in the past
10:54 AM _unreal_: cant use 230v 50hz input
10:54 AM _unreal_: so i'm pulling the HD's
10:54 AM _unreal_: only 2 are US power
10:54 AM _unreal_: they are all for DTV sat
10:54 AM _unreal_: from super yachts
10:59 AM Tom_L: mrec, i forgot where you were located..
11:00 AM Tom_L: somewhere across the pond..
11:02 AM mrec: taiwan
11:02 AM mrec: moved from germany
11:05 AM _unreal_: so if they IF they arrive today, will be interesting to see how these cheap 3 flute up cut 1/8th bits work
11:06 AM _unreal_: I only need to get these parts for the new cnc cut
11:07 AM _unreal_: it will be nice when they are done....
11:08 AM _unreal_: speaking of I just remembered I never added the pitch adjustment holes crap.
11:11 AM _unreal_: There thats done.
11:12 AM _unreal_: now I just need to mill those holes before I cut the part out :)
11:13 AM _unreal_: so I also got something I've ben dreading doing done on my cnc machine FINALLY... added the last two rows of threaded holes to the work table
11:13 AM _unreal_: for hold downs
11:13 AM _unreal_: I needed them for cutting these new parts.
11:14 AM _unreal_: just sucks because the base is made of G10 frp material
11:15 AM _unreal_: The real trick when I get this new machine built. will be aligning it... UGH
12:12 PM t4nk_freenode: _unreal_, yeah, that's why making 17585 adjustable points for all the axes and everything is a bad idea ;)
12:13 PM t4nk_freenode: and it's also why I still haven't continued work on my own build.
12:13 PM t4nk_freenode: the thought of doing a bad job at aligning everything holds me back
12:15 PM roycroft: if you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable
12:16 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah... I thought about that, oversizing the holes a bit is the best I can do for now
12:17 PM t4nk_freenode: since making slots is too hard for me
12:18 PM t4nk_freenode: hopefully I can start machining parts for a better version once I got a rudimentary machine
12:19 PM t4nk_freenode: best improvement for right now is strength and rigidity, at least those are my hopes
12:55 PM unterhausen: managed to move my milling machine without any grievous injuries
12:55 PM Tom_L: still got all 10 fingers n toes?
12:55 PM unterhausen: think so
01:06 PM _unreal_: Thats what I'm doing
01:07 PM _unreal_: all holes are over sized
01:07 PM _unreal_: ugh. going nuts the freaking POOL scupper tubing has a clog. no idea why and have YET to clear it
01:07 PM _unreal_: really pissing me off
01:07 PM _unreal_: its like 1.5" PVC
01:08 PM _unreal_: burried under the pool going to the pump
01:08 PM Tom_L: let the pool guy fix it
01:08 PM _unreal_: that costs money
01:08 PM _unreal_: and my money is going into stocks
01:08 PM _unreal_: cant wait for the up comming market crash
01:08 PM Tom_L: pools cost money
01:08 PM _unreal_: may-sept its coming and BOY iis it going to be BIG ONE.
01:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://softsolder.com/2021/03/24/kicad-to-hal-proof-of-concept/
01:09 PM _unreal_: its just makes no sense. I dont know why there is a CLOG
01:09 PM _unreal_: the time frame when it "clogged" was a super super light leaf load.
01:09 PM _unreal_: the reason for it clogging does not make any sense
01:10 PM _unreal_: unless a stick got into it
01:10 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], is there a method to that madness?
01:10 PM _unreal_: but even that does not make sense. becuase the first bend you can see looking down the scupper and its a freaking 90
01:11 PM Tom_L: however i actually did draw out the logic on some of my mill when i did the pendant
01:11 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight[m]: thats cool
01:11 PM _unreal_: IN ANYCASE
01:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I was lpoking at how to do it yesterday before searching for anyone else trying it
01:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.forum.linuxcnc.org/24-hal-components/42506-kicad-to-hal
01:12 PM _unreal_: I did get it to suck a little bit of water through the pipe so I put about 3 cups of of chlorine down the scupper. maybe it will break it up enough to pass...
01:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: s/lpoking/looking/
01:14 PM _unreal_: My big issue is I'm dreding letting my father know. in his @#$%@#%$^% up world everything is everyone else's fault. most likely IMO the mango tree that my father planted RIGHT next to the pool and is starting to break into the scupper walls. has likely gotten to the scupper pipe. I could be wrong but. the fact that this pipe just clogged out of the blue. The only other thing it could be is a snake.
01:14 PM CloudEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92QmjS-xDaI - Fun. Blender constraint driven cad
01:14 PM _unreal_: I have gotten mice in the catch basket before in the pool pump. So I'm also wondering if THAT is the issue.
01:15 PM XXCoder: saw that. pretty cool, but meh ill keep using freecad
01:15 PM _unreal_: the problem is the pool its self has a leak so the water does stay at/above the scupper. so its often dry.
01:15 PM _unreal_: :/
01:16 PM _unreal_: I tried using blender for CAD once. its ok. but designspark and fusion360 are much better IMO
01:16 PM XXCoder: unreal that link is adding constrant based cad into blender
01:17 PM _unreal_: shocked... just checked my amazon purchase, when I ordered it it sayed it will arrive today by 2. now it says will arrive by tue.
01:17 PM _unreal_: ugh...
01:18 PM _unreal_: I did make a nice Z axis model years ago in blender. even added motion to it.
01:18 PM _unreal_: I can only wonder what computer that is on now.
01:18 PM _unreal_: sigh...
01:18 PM _unreal_: I did that back when I was married
01:18 PM XXCoder: chaoic sphere. fun https://youtu.be/54dYCXDNSiA
01:27 PM _unreal_: i just caught a really cool lizard
01:40 PM _unreal_: took a few photos.
01:40 PM _unreal_: also
01:40 PM _unreal_: when I went back out side to let it go. My daughter was MIA... wtf... i HAD JUST starter cleaning the pool by hand
01:42 PM _unreal_: only to find her not there. found her in the back yard going HAY HAY DADDY look at this.... she was like 2' away from a 2' long soft shell turtle. I was like GHAAAAAAAAAAA get away from it..... grabbed a fiberglass pole tapped its shell only for it to WHIP OUT and bite the pole. took a chunk out of it....
01:42 PM _unreal_: I was like KID... really!!!!!!!
01:42 PM _unreal_: jesus
01:45 PM _unreal_: check these two phtos out
01:45 PM _unreal_: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AuUvF9hmfdkG0ngdA0oF_Et9cmgV?e=KnLDGn
01:46 PM _unreal_: that lizard REALLLLLLLY wanted to bite me
01:46 PM _unreal_: hehehe
01:47 PM _unreal_: cant believe I caught him
01:47 PM _unreal_: he tried to HIDE on one of the huge surprise lilie leaves. so I just grabbed the entire leaf like a taco and grabbed it. hehehe
01:49 PM _unreal_: ? anyone look
01:51 PM Tom_L: sry working on 2 cad files at once
01:55 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:24 PM JT-Shop2: I guess poplar would be ok for drawer sides if I used finger joints instead of lock miter joints...
02:42 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:49 PM roycroft: i use finger joints for drawer sides quite often
02:51 PM roycroft: for this upcoming project i'm seriously considering dovetailing all the drawers
02:51 PM roycroft: i have so many of them to make it would be well worth my time to set up the leigh jig for them
02:52 PM roycroft: and if i do that i can cut dovetails at least as fast as finger joints
02:56 PM JT-Shop2: bet that would look nice
02:59 PM roycroft: yeah, they'll be nice
03:00 PM roycroft: i've pretty much decided to use douglas fir for the drawer cases, though
03:00 PM roycroft: i just can't afford to use good hardwood for htem
03:00 PM roycroft: and i can't even begin to think about using my usual material - baltic birch plywood
03:01 PM roycroft: i'm looking for some kiln-dried fir 4x6s that i can mill into drawer case parts
03:01 PM roycroft: i still don't know what to do about the drawer bottoms, though
03:02 PM roycroft: i want to use 9mm baltic birch plywood, but that's not even available anywhere at the moment
03:02 PM roycroft: not to mention it would probably cost me over $100/sheet
03:25 PM MrSunshine_ is now known as MrSunshine
03:59 PM Rab: _unreal_, nice lizard.
04:38 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpqFL3rZKBA
04:38 PM XXCoder: cutting off teeth?
04:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: much success \0/
04:39 PM XXCoder: definitely a success, just not sure whas you doing lol
04:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: haven't you read of "cutting teeth"? runs from bad pun
04:40 PM XXCoder: ah lol
04:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i purchased a few rolls of 18ga solid by mistake a couple of years ago in various colors
04:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it works great for bundling coils of cables, like twist ties
04:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i never have to wind my own coils, motors or magnets
04:42 PM skunkworks: XXCoder: removing the teeth - making a sawmill wheel
04:42 PM XXCoder: nice :)
04:44 PM skunkworks: 16rpm... slow....
04:46 PM _unreal_: frig. well now I know why I broke 3 bits in one spot. some ?? bit snapped IN the aluminum
04:46 PM _unreal_: and i'm hittin the bit... ugh....
04:48 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, you may have been working on two cad files. I was working on two reptiles
04:57 PM Tom_L: 2 sides of a mold
05:00 PM XXCoder: unreal yeah you do have to inspect hole and tool to make sure theres no leftover bits
05:00 PM XXCoder: waste of tools otherwise
05:00 PM XXCoder: even if its $10 each.
05:04 PM _unreal_: could not see it
05:04 PM XXCoder: thats why I also said to ispect the tool also
05:04 PM XXCoder: if theres peice missing, try to find it
05:07 PM Kevin`: always worth looking, but there's a good chance that small bits have disappeared into the fifth dimension
05:09 PM _unreal_: that would be this one
05:09 PM _unreal_: did just get it dug out though from the looks of it
05:10 PM _unreal_: will be nice to finish that section
05:10 PM _unreal_: I'm still milling the first arm of the new cnc
05:10 PM _unreal_: holes drilling, milling out the holes the pilots where drilled into. then cutting out the arm
05:25 PM t4nk_freenode: hehe Kevin`
05:28 PM Tom_L: they will show up on the dark side of a black hole when you least expect it
05:56 PM _unreal_: crazy. I have almost an inch of filings aluminum filings in my mini dust collector
05:57 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, get motivated build that new machine
05:57 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, did you look at the photo of the lizard I caught?
06:07 PM andypugh: CaptHindsight[m]: I ought to learn to log out afore going away fore the weekend.
06:08 PM andypugh: But, yes, a HAL component that would spit out coordinates (and a validity flag) could ake things really easy.
06:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: thanks Andy
06:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: looks like kicad has already been tried for use a graphical HAL connection editor
06:44 PM _unreal_: only this aluminum must be hardened. its so hard for my machine to cut
06:44 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:48 PM _unreal_: THERE IT IS!!!! I saw it this time WTF....
06:48 PM _unreal_: now I know whats screwing up.
06:48 PM _unreal_: the feed rate is shooting to the moon on the holding tabs
06:48 PM t4nk_freenode: is that your way of saying you sent another few bits to the fifth dimension?
06:48 PM _unreal_: my feed rate is 26mm/min but the Z movements are hitting 130mm/min for plunge WTF
06:49 PM _unreal_: its only on the down movement
06:49 PM _unreal_: the control software must have crashed.
06:49 PM _unreal_: its working " " but crashed
06:49 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:53 PM Tom_L: scan the file before you run it for F rates
07:00 PM _unreal_: its not the file
07:00 PM _unreal_: its the comuter
07:01 PM _unreal_: the motion controller I burned by plugging the power in backwards last year. I got it working but it has ODD issues now and then. I think it feeds back bit errors and causes issues with the planetcnc software
07:01 PM _unreal_: I'm not interested in trying to get a new one of these controllers. they are stupid expensive :(
07:02 PM _unreal_: I also have not rebooted this win10 NETBOOK in like 4 months
07:02 PM _unreal_: always running in the background
07:05 PM _unreal_: I do agree always scan the files. but in this instance I know whats causes the issue. the problem is that it is random at times :(
07:06 PM _unreal_: now its doing a nice soft gentile step over making the tabs.
07:06 PM _unreal_: before it was just UP/DOWN like a pong paddle you know the ball on an elastic to a wooden paddle.
07:16 PM _unreal_: I do find it odd, my cnc handles the 1/4" up cut two flute on aluminum better then these 1/8 bits
07:16 PM _unreal_: but My 300 watt tiny spindle DOES have a 1/2" solid shaft. no screw/press on collet holder end.
07:16 PM _unreal_: its solid
07:18 PM _unreal_: oh man what a difference watching this thing. just made 3 passes now with out breaking a bit
07:18 PM _unreal_: ugh.
07:18 PM _unreal_: I just wrote a note on mymachine. "IF ITS ODD REBOOT"
07:19 PM roycroft: oh boy
07:19 PM roycroft: i was wrong
07:19 PM roycroft: ups are not going to be unhappy delivering my drawer slides
07:20 PM roycroft: because they just got shipped via usps
07:20 PM roycroft: six separate boxes, with six tracking numbers
07:20 PM _unreal_: ?
07:20 PM roycroft: i'm not sure my letter carrier will know how to deal with it - they're all pretty heavy (~18kg each)
07:21 PM roycroft: i ordered 60 drawer slides, _unreal_
07:21 PM roycroft: i expected one or two big boxes
07:21 PM roycroft: and given the weight, i expected them to ship via ups
07:22 PM XXCoder: geez
07:23 PM _unreal_: that would require one of the big box trucks to drop it off
07:23 PM roycroft: i can guarantee my letter carrier is going to be pissed off about this
07:24 PM roycroft: i hope it's not part of my normal mail delivery
07:28 PM _unreal_: lol
07:29 PM _unreal_: cant wait for those new bits to show up. will be interesting to see how they work
07:29 PM _unreal_: will be great if I can bump up my feed rate to like 40mm/min at 1-2mm per step
07:29 PM _unreal_: be done in no time
07:30 PM roycroft: i may finally have a successful print in a few minutes
07:30 PM roycroft: it's been a disaster
07:31 PM _unreal_: ?
07:31 PM roycroft: i queued up a 5-up print last night, and on the last layer i discovered that my dysgraphia had kicked in, and i had made one dimension 2.295" instead of the intended 2.925"
07:31 PM roycroft: so i printed it again
07:31 PM _unreal_: the only print issues I "normally have" are scale
07:31 PM roycroft: for some reason the print failed in the middle of the night, about 1/3 of the way through
07:32 PM roycroft: i got an error that i'd never seen, that octopi had lost communication with the printer
07:32 PM roycroft: so i printed again this morning
07:32 PM roycroft: about 1/2 way through the build plate shifted to one side
07:32 PM roycroft: so now i'm printing again
07:32 PM roycroft: i've secured the build plate better
07:33 PM _unreal_: loss of location is always fun
07:33 PM _unreal_: OMG. 4th pass same bit
07:33 PM roycroft: i have two layers to go before this is finished
07:33 PM roycroft: i got done with my chores outdoors just in time
07:35 PM roycroft: _unreal_: i installed a new volcano hot end and it's taken some time to get it dialed in
07:35 PM roycroft: well worth the investment in time and money, though
07:35 PM roycroft: i am now printing 2x as fast as before
07:49 PM Tom_L: you will run out of stuff to print 2x sooner too
07:49 PM Tom_L: then what?
07:51 PM roycroft: then the printer will be able to idle sooner
07:51 PM roycroft: since i have ~1500 boxes to print, it's going to take quite a while no matter how fast i go
07:52 PM Tom_L: injection mold may have been quicker
07:53 PM roycroft: it would not have worked for this design
07:54 PM roycroft: unless i printed each box in two pieces and joined them together
07:54 PM roycroft: i'll get it done - it's just going to take a few months
07:55 PM roycroft: which will be fine
07:56 PM Tom_L: added a tool to my tool table and for some reason it set to lathe mode which gave me a result of .0009 ipm and said it would take 5hrs to machine
07:56 PM roycroft: i have a good plan for transitioning to the new storage - i won't be in a position where there will be a mess or my workflow will be more awkward while i'm doing this
07:56 PM Tom_L: now we're down to ~45 min
07:57 PM Tom_L: now maybe i can dry run it again
09:36 PM _unreal_: ultra sonic welding
09:37 PM roycroft: should be banned
09:40 PM Tom_shop: why?
09:40 PM CaptHindsight[m]: what are the dimensions of these drawers?
09:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sounds like a good fit for DLP/LCD printing
09:56 PM roycroft: have you ever tried to open an ultrasonice welded package?
09:56 PM Tom_L: sure
09:57 PM Tom_L: it's not supposed to happen :)
09:57 PM roycroft: i ended up buying a motorized rotary cutter just for opening those packages
09:57 PM roycroft: and while that works fine, it still generates sharp, pointing bits of plastic that have to be handled carefully or they can put your eye out
