01:32 AM Deejay: moin
02:09 AM pere: In the documentation, what do MVO stand for?
02:10 AM pere: Is it max velocity override?
04:02 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
04:50 AM Tom_L: morning
05:00 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:37 AM mrec_: Tom_L: which mesa device do you have?
07:38 AM mrec_: is there any disadvantage between the udp network device vs pci-express version?
08:44 AM mrec_: did anyone use G71 for a bore?
10:51 AM perry_j1987: what about it
10:51 AM perry_j1987: I'm sure someone at some point has used g71 for a bore :P
11:03 AM pere: Anyone here know asciidoc and dblatex enough to help out with what is going wrong with <URL: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/1356 >?
11:17 AM mrec_: pere: I wonder if it works yes it works for outside but for inside the documentation doesn't mention anything about it
11:18 AM pere: mrec_: my problem is that the build work when I try it on my machine, but fail on github, and I have been unable to figure out why.
11:29 AM mrec_: what?
11:38 AM perry_j1987: http://www.helmancnc.com/fanuc-g71-g72-g70-canned-cycle-cnc-lathe-internal-machining-example-boring-facing/
11:43 AM * JT-Cave used to do the docs but so much has changed lately I'm lost
12:12 PM mrec_: perry_j1987: well that's Fanuc but linuxcnc is the question
12:13 PM mrec_: I don't think borings are supported with G71 to be honest
12:13 PM perry_j1987: i havnt tried to my knowledge
12:13 PM perry_j1987: i just run whatever the post processor spits out
12:13 PM perry_j1987: then curse when something breaks a tool haha
12:13 PM mrec_: g71 is new with 2.9
01:09 PM Tom_L: mrec_, 7I90 & 7I47S
01:41 PM roycroft: perry_1987 needs to learn how to cut air and appreciate doing so
01:41 PM roycroft: cutting air is better for one's blood pressure than cursing
01:47 PM XXCoder: indeed
02:04 PM perry_j1987: lol
03:03 PM JT-Shop: this bora router head has 4 small pins on the od of the body... what are they for?
03:04 PM roycroft: my porter cable routers have a spiral groove in the base and pins in the body for height adjustment
03:04 PM roycroft: i would assume that's what they are for
03:05 PM roycroft: the routers have two spiral grooves, actually
03:05 PM roycroft: and two pins fit in each groove
03:39 PM JT-Shop: that make sense
03:41 PM JT-Shop: https://boratool.com/bora-fixed-base-router
03:42 PM JT-Shop: I see they have the whole router as well... didn't realize that
03:44 PM roycroft: that looks very much like a porter-cable router
03:44 PM roycroft: they probably did that because the p-c 7518 was the standard router table spindle for decades, and it's discontinued
03:45 PM roycroft: there are a *lot* of router lifts that use that spindle, and bora's making theirs compatible with the p-c lets people use their existing router lifts
03:45 PM JT-Shop: the bora uses er-20 collets
03:45 PM roycroft: that's nice
03:46 PM roycroft: my 80mm spindle does as well, and i like that
03:46 PM JT-Shop: I had to take the cover off to get it in my woodpeckers lift, the pins were the problem
04:41 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: those big routers are so frigging dangerous. ya really gotta hang on when ya start one up....
04:41 PM roycroft: i believe his will be going into a router table
04:44 PM roguish[m]: kinda turns it into a shaper. still totally dangerous............
04:44 PM roycroft: caution is always advised
04:44 PM roguish[m]: useful, but scary
04:50 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], this one starts so slow and ramps up you can just let go
04:50 PM * roycroft has spent all day implementing dkim and adding it to his domains, because google demands that he do so
04:51 PM roguish[m]: i have a big PC. it's the scariest tool I have, and have ever used.....
04:51 PM roycroft: the scariest tool i have is my brain
04:51 PM roycroft: sometimes it's totaly out of control and i can't do anything about it
04:51 PM roguish[m]: could be
04:52 PM roguish[m]: hey, we got .77 inches of rain last night.
04:52 PM roguish[m]: wooooo hooooo
04:52 PM roguish[m]: kinda like a spit in the ocean
04:53 PM roycroft: we had some light precipitation last night
04:54 PM roycroft: nothing to write home about, though
04:55 PM * JT-Shop just pulled the trigger on a 15HH
04:58 PM roycroft: that's a pretty expensive way to get rid of snipe
05:13 PM unterhausen: someone on the mailing list looking for a servo2go board. Wonder what computer they propose to use it in
05:23 PM JT-Shop: I got rid of the snipe on the X15
05:23 PM miss0r: Hey JT :)
05:23 PM JT-Shop: yo
05:23 PM * JT-Shop is getting a shaper I think
05:23 PM miss0r: Nice
05:23 PM XXCoder: jt what was causing snipe
05:24 PM miss0r: I want one. Only a small one though. 6-8" or so
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I think the infeed springs were a bit weak so I tightened them up and added a few drops of oil
05:24 PM miss0r: JT-Shop: Look at how far I've come with the coilgun project: https://imgur.com/a/T8JDrpH
05:25 PM JT-Shop: wow it's lipo powered, that's so cool
05:25 PM JT-Shop: is that brass threaded inserts?
05:26 PM miss0r: yeah
05:26 PM JT-Shop: how do you load it?
05:26 PM miss0r: You can't go taking screws in and out if the threads are alu
05:26 PM miss0r: let me snap a photo of that, 2 secs
05:26 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:26 PM JT-Shop: what does it weigh?
05:27 PM miss0r: I'm thinking around 13 or 14lb
05:28 PM JT-Shop: less than my Stihl 021 chainsaw
05:28 PM JT-Shop: my smallest chainsaw
05:28 PM miss0r: https://imgur.com/a/WLS8mXC
05:28 PM miss0r: that is looking at the breach
05:29 PM JT-Shop: james bondish
05:29 PM miss0r: that small brass part you can see sticking out in the right side of the breach, is a small axle with a 6mmH7 hole in it, and a small magnet to hold the projectile
05:30 PM miss0r: That then spins up to roughly 20k rpm prior to firing. With that I've actualy managed to midigate the projectile tumbling around
05:30 PM JT-Shop: wow
05:30 PM miss0r: yeah. But I must say - this project has been far more time consuming and costly than I even care to calculate
05:31 PM miss0r: I know the numbers would just hurt :) But it looks pretty
05:31 PM JT-Shop: worse than building a ballista with a truck spring but both fun
05:31 PM miss0r: indeed hehe
05:31 PM miss0r: I've done a few test shots with this at this point actualy
05:31 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/ballista/
05:32 PM miss0r: I've ordered a chronograph so I can dial it in, but at this unadjusted point, I can sink a 24mm projectile 22mm into porous/light concrete
05:32 PM miss0r: Nice !
05:32 PM miss0r: Now I want one too :D
05:32 PM JT-Shop: damn, that's got to be fast, at what distance?
05:33 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUc-GVUCXYk
05:33 PM miss0r: that was pretty close range. like 20 meters or so
05:33 PM miss0r: holy ! :D
05:34 PM miss0r: how much force does it take to load that thing?
05:34 PM JT-Shop: not much the handwheel pulls it back and has a ratchet to keep it from flying forward
05:35 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JykOtmJynAI
05:36 PM miss0r: I would NEVER dare be that close to an old canon like that :D
05:36 PM JT-Shop: it's not old, I built it
05:36 PM miss0r: I would duck for cover. You would find me bind a pile of sandbags, clutching my testicles
05:36 PM miss0r: bind=find
05:36 PM JT-Shop: well I built 2 of them actually
05:37 PM miss0r: Nice. Still, though. I've seen one of those blow up, up close. So I guess I am somewhat biased
05:37 PM XXCoder: jt curious if you contact police let them know you fire cannon off or something?
05:37 PM XXCoder: or is it at blasting site
05:37 PM JT-Shop: they have a steel barrel inside the cast
05:37 PM JT-Shop: no one cares here, shooting is going on all the time
05:38 PM JT-Shop: target shooting
05:38 PM XXCoder: its good that you specify that heh
05:38 PM miss0r: :]
05:38 PM miss0r: "Its comming right at me!"
05:38 PM JT-Shop: I do text my neighbor and make sure she is not taking a nap
05:38 PM JT-Shop: before shooting the cannon
05:39 PM XXCoder: or set clock for alarm cannon fire ;)
05:39 PM XXCoder: thats cool tho
05:40 PM JT-Shop: the ballista story is george said JT you should build a ballista but with a truck spring
05:40 PM miss0r: Do you guys think I could use clear fishing line as an improvised LED optic cable for short distances?
05:40 PM miss0r: like 50mm or so?
05:40 PM JT-Shop: my reply was if I had a truck spring I'd build a ballista
05:40 PM XXCoder: mis, dunno but why? isnt clear solid rods easy to buy
05:40 PM JT-Shop: a couple of weeks later rickey showed up with a truck spring...
05:41 PM JT-Shop: miss0r, I doubt fishing line is clear enough but what do I know
05:41 PM miss0r: the problem is that I just drilled 7 holes in the top front cover of this thing.. and I messed up the zero point and managed to place'em 46mm off
05:42 PM miss0r: and when I drilled the holes I was going to use 3mm clear acrylis rod that I have playing around, works great.
05:42 PM JT-Shop: just for visual display of the led?
05:43 PM miss0r: BUT this design of mine does not offer enough room to heat and bend a 3mm rod into submission here it is needed, so I will need to do it with something flexible. and as I hate to wait I want something NOW :D
05:43 PM miss0r: yeah
05:43 PM XXCoder: yeah there should be rubberlike clear rods
05:43 PM miss0r: basically, one for every coil showing if they are holding a charge
05:43 PM XXCoder: not too sure where to source em but yeah
05:44 PM miss0r: I can find plenty, but they are too far away for me to want to drive and I don't want to wait days for it to be delievered
05:44 PM JT-Shop: try it and see
05:44 PM miss0r: I don't have any fishing at hand, but I can go buy something tomorrow. now now.. Its 00:30 here at the moment
05:44 PM miss0r: fishing line..
05:45 PM JT-Shop: just bring a led...
05:45 PM miss0r: or fishing rods ect. I haven't held a fishing rod in my hands for 20 years
05:45 PM XXCoder: maybe clear water tubes, with very low ID will work anyway
05:46 PM XXCoder: like jt said, bring led and way to power it (coin battery cr1023?) test stuff
05:46 PM miss0r: meh, if the LED usage does not pan out I can always use it to make tripwires for my kids :D
05:46 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:46 PM XXCoder: :)
05:46 PM roycroft: some scrap multimode fiber optic cable would be best
05:47 PM miss0r: Sure. actualy.. I should just grap a few pig tails
05:47 PM miss0r: Those are somewhat flexible. But the issue remains the radius they will need to bend
05:47 PM miss0r: it might get tight in there :)
05:48 PM Tom_L: miss0r, so when do we get a yt of it?
05:48 PM miss0r: Tom_L: never
05:48 PM miss0r: :D
05:48 PM miss0r: I might find another way to post a video, but with the laws in place 'round here, I'm pretty sure someone would come to take it away.. and me along with it
05:49 PM XXCoder: its illegal for you to upload to youtube?
05:49 PM Tom_L: always somebody around to spoil the party
05:49 PM JT-Shop: email it to me and I'll post it on gnipsel.com
05:49 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, probably to own
05:49 PM XXCoder: oh yes
05:49 PM XXCoder: coil
05:49 PM miss0r: XXCoder: No, its illegal to own. and a youtube account is just to easily traceable
05:49 PM XXCoder: indeed
05:50 PM Tom_L: is it fairly silent?
05:50 PM miss0r: JT-Shop: Thanks for the offer, but I think my email has a limit of 50mbs... or something like that. Tell you what. When I get around to making a short video, I will pm you a link to download the file directly from my webserver. Then you can upload it?
05:51 PM miss0r: Tom_L: Like a fart in a snow storm
05:51 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:51 PM miss0r: well. not quite that quite :)
05:51 PM XXCoder: been playing with my 3d printer
05:51 PM XXCoder: so fun
05:51 PM XXCoder: i made fake quantium filament, then printed moai with it
05:51 PM miss0r: The only thing that makes a sound is the motor spinning up the projectile. I have to do some finetuning of that
05:52 PM XXCoder: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/497148713781952554/958119226642661426/2color-3.jpg?width=797&height=660
05:53 PM JT-Shop: geez I made an appointment at the vet to spay the shop cat and it's 2 months from now so she has to stay inside until she is safe
05:53 PM miss0r: that looks pretty cool
05:53 PM XXCoder: it is. its "fake" because I printed filament lol
05:53 PM miss0r: hahaha cool
05:54 PM CloudEvil: JT-Shop: there are non-surgical alternatives. https://i.imgur.com/EYmBsPL.jpeg
05:54 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:54 PM XXCoder: its at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3565827 if wanna try
05:55 PM JT-Shop: she is the machine shop cat
05:56 PM miss0r: CloudEvil: Where on the internet you find that stuff is beyond me. Just imagining the search phrase sends shivers up my spine :D
05:56 PM t4nk_freenode: I wonder how you'd feel if SHe could take You to 'see the doctor' though ;)
05:56 PM CloudEvil: That was posted on imgur and I have it as a reaction image saved under 'cats'
05:57 PM miss0r: XXCoder: Sadly I moved out from my parents before learning of 3D-printers, so I never got around to it :D (no prejudice here :D )
05:57 PM XXCoder: lol ok
05:59 PM miss0r: Anyway, that is it for tonight. See you around
05:59 PM XXCoder: have fun
05:59 PM JT-Shop: night
06:23 PM roycroft: wait
06:24 PM roycroft: learning about 3d printers is only possible in one's parents' home?
06:24 PM roycroft: that doesn't seem fair
06:24 PM roycroft: what about orphans? are they to be denied the joys of 3d printing?
06:24 PM XXCoder: apparently
06:24 PM XXCoder: what if you have parent living at YOUR home? can you still learn 3d printing?
06:25 PM roycroft: apparently only if you sign the deed to the property over to the parent
06:26 PM roycroft: i think i've been monitoring my mail system for long enough
06:26 PM roycroft: it's time to go finish up the work on the dust collector, so it can go back in service
07:00 PM XXCoder: nice
09:06 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:07 PM srk- is now known as srk
11:11 PM roycroft: i just saw andypugh called out on a youtube video
11:12 PM roycroft: it was a video about a tiny workshop
11:13 PM XXCoder: yah? called out on what, roycroft
11:14 PM roycroft: a storage set up made of some pvc tubes
11:14 PM roycroft: the video is actually pretty impressive
11:14 PM roycroft: the workshop is 6'x8'
11:14 PM roycroft: very tiny
11:14 PM roycroft: but the guy has a pretty good set of tools, and several machines - a lathe, a band saw, and a drill press
11:15 PM roycroft: i watched it on my tv, so i don't have a url
11:15 PM XXCoder: nice
11:15 PM roycroft: oh, there's a table saw as well
11:15 PM roycroft: let me see if i can find it on youtube.com
11:15 PM XXCoder: yeah some surpising tiny shops out there! clickspring have very small shop
11:16 PM XXCoder: theres tour video and many comments "thats it? it looked way bigger in machining and etc shots!
11:16 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCtRWwvGHeY
11:16 PM roycroft: there
11:16 PM roycroft: clickspring's shop used to be literally a closet
11:16 PM XXCoder: damn thats tiny
11:16 PM roycroft: i think he's expanded a bit though
11:16 PM roycroft: that rose engine won't fit well in a closet
11:16 PM XXCoder: chris shop seems luxiously large compared to that
11:18 PM XXCoder: lathe bed table nice idea
