03:53 PM unterhausen: I tried to design a 3d part that would snap together. Didn't snap
04:01 PM XXCoder: doh
04:01 PM unterhausen: hey, some of my students did it, how hard could it be? :)
04:01 PM unterhausen: acetone should help, right?
04:01 PM XXCoder: if abs maybe
04:01 PM XXCoder: not sure
04:01 PM unterhausen: pla
04:01 PM XXCoder: nah very little effect
04:05 PM Tom_L: just use lots of cutter comp :)
04:06 PM Tom_L: oh.. you're printing
04:06 PM XXCoder: unterhausen: you have to take account polyholes
04:07 PM Tom_L: so if i worked this out right there should be very minimal materal waste
04:07 PM XXCoder: if its outer dimensions, its fine to leave it at dimension, but for inside, you have to take account of circle is not made bvy true g2 g3 but bunch of g1
04:07 PM XXCoder: so theres flat spots that intrude into inside bore size
04:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/MODS/A9_A10_2020_1.jpg
04:07 PM Tom_L: making some more of those
04:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/MODS/A9_A10_plates.jpg
04:08 PM Tom_L: but instead of cutting plates i found some material just the right width so i can just keep feeding it forward
04:08 PM Tom_L: and just trim the side tabs off
04:09 PM XXCoder: unterhausen: https://gilesbathgate.files.wordpress.com/2016/02/facets-example.png this is good example
04:10 PM XXCoder: read https://gilesbathgate.com/2016/02/07/polyholes-revisited/
04:10 PM unterhausen: yeah, I tried to account for that in the dimensions. Thinking about just taking a file to it
04:10 PM XXCoder: or can drill it
04:10 PM XXCoder: or reamer
04:11 PM Tom_L: or machine one from solid billet
04:11 PM unterhausen: it's a dovetail
04:11 PM unterhausen: I thought about cutting one on my lathe, have a material problem
04:11 PM XXCoder: ahh did you take account of radius on all corners?
04:12 PM XXCoder: because 3d printer cant do sharp inside corner, best it can do is minium of nozzle extrusion radius
04:12 PM unterhausen: it has a large radius on all corners
04:12 PM unterhausen: I just underestimated the amount of slop
04:14 PM unterhausen: it's a 6" diameter ring, I'm making a swivel for my dust collection
04:14 PM unterhausen: So I can have it up against the wall when not collecting dust from the woodworking tools
04:14 PM XXCoder: nice
04:15 PM unterhausen: fun to listen to the printer go around the outside
04:15 PM XXCoder: mp mini one?
04:15 PM unterhausen: now I want a bigger printer, it's on the mp
04:15 PM XXCoder: yeah. its always nice to have backup though, thats why I still have mine
04:16 PM XXCoder: so I assume you fixed the extruder issues?
04:16 PM unterhausen: they were selling a dremel for $300 at penn state salvage
04:16 PM unterhausen: dremel printer
04:17 PM XXCoder: is it one that uses DRM filament rolls?
04:17 PM unterhausen: I guess I could save some money by signing up at the makerspace
04:17 PM unterhausen: I don't know about drm, wouldn't surprise me
04:17 PM XXCoder: only couple companies did drm. both dead
04:18 PM Rab: Tom_L, is that stainless?
04:19 PM unterhausen: yeah, i guess it voids your warranty, not a concern
04:20 PM unterhausen: wonder how much it costs to get laser cut
04:21 PM CloudEvil: Surprisingly litle, often.
04:21 PM CloudEvil: https://fractory.com/ - for example
04:22 PM CloudEvil: From memory, a 105 key keyboard cut-out in mild steel was around $30, inc steel.
04:29 PM unterhausen: I want it to be pretty thick. Would be $60 for 3
04:32 PM unterhausen: only $2.50 if I can live with 1mm thick, might be worth it
04:35 PM unterhausen: I'm going to sandwich the 3d printed stuff in between sheet metal
04:47 PM unterhausen: if I have a lot of surface area, pla should stick to mild steel with epoxy, right?
04:54 PM Tom_L: Rab, no
04:54 PM Tom_L: 6061
05:02 PM CloudEvil: Depending on what you're doing, a bearing guided router may work just fine for the metal cutting
05:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: anyone ever hear from Archivist after we found him alive but disappeared from the net?
05:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/44422-colorcnc?start=0
05:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: still $16 https://www.led-card.com/colorlight-5a-75-ture-color-led-processor.html
05:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Rpi4 however is NA or over $100?
05:46 PM XXCoder: chips on those might not be in shortage
05:46 PM XXCoder: unless it uses same cpu and other chips
05:59 PM unterhausen: stm isn't in shortage if you use the chinese one, right?
05:59 PM unterhausen: but didn't that company just mess up a batch of flash chips?
06:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.gigadevice.com/
06:53 PM unterhausen: I just submitted some parts to sendcutsend and they would do an automatic quote
06:53 PM unterhausen: too small, I guess
06:55 PM unterhausen: ^they would not do
07:27 PM perry_j1987: g'evenin
07:38 PM unterhausen: my 3d printed parts actually do fit together, I just needed to clean them up a little
