05:01 AM Tom_L: morning
05:09 AM Tom_L: 36°F hi 61°F
05:21 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:25 AM JT-Cave: same here
05:33 AM * Anim[m] uploaded an image: (108KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/drKRWhIJrOinrEoaIZIMZZqI/LIMIT%20SETUP.png >
06:55 AM unterhausen: spring loaded sharpie holder is a good idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZWCX9tdkk8
07:08 AM unterhausen: in retrospect, I should have emptied the water out of my ultrasonic cleaner in the garage
07:18 AM t4nk_freenode: _unreal_, a user error you say? mmmm ... that's certainly not anything we're used to from you! :b
07:18 AM t4nk_freenode: haven't made any progress myself
07:19 AM t4nk_freenode: been completely occupado trying to solve some kde plasma mystery on my system
07:20 AM t4nk_freenode: trying, because it still isn't solved
07:27 AM t4nk_freenode: I did continue work on the new bearings though, it's gonna be very tight, there's not much 'flesh' left one one side of one bearing
07:28 AM t4nk_freenode: think I'll just order the cbeams soon
07:30 AM t4nk_freenode: hehe.. buuuttt... I want something more than the 50cms I got now.. so it's gonna be 1m
07:30 AM t4nk_freenode: and that may be a bit much hehe
07:42 AM t4nk_freenode: found a site that has profiles for fairly cheap, but they are going crazy with the rest of the stuff, way too expensive
08:31 AM perry_j1987: mornin
08:37 AM perry_j1987: everybody got their coffee?
08:39 AM * t4nk_freenode raises his hand, and his cup
08:39 AM t4nk_freenode: mug, even
08:40 AM perry_j1987: good man
09:09 AM perry_j1987: there we go i got spindle speed control now
10:05 AM XXCoder: unterhausen: very nice
10:06 AM XXCoder: I used marker without any spring loaded stuff few times lol
10:06 AM XXCoder: it'd be better with spring
10:06 AM unterhausen: never would have thought of using a balloon as a spring
10:32 AM perry_j1987: just need to wire up a relay for spindle enable and im ready to start trying some stuff with this lathe
10:33 AM XXCoder: yeah unter
10:57 AM perry_j1987: there we go all done
11:02 AM perry_j1987: i have a whb04b-4 with a usb RF dongle
11:02 AM perry_j1987: wonder about getting this working too
11:02 AM perry_j1987: i see there is support for the -6
11:02 AM perry_j1987: but i have the -4
11:18 AM perry_j1987: ah so if i upgrade to linuxcnc 2.8 series it has teh drivers built in
11:18 AM perry_j1987: ok
12:23 PM roycroft: that looks like a decent pendant, but i'm still leery about using a wireless pendant
12:27 PM perry_j1987: it came with the 6040 when i bought it
12:27 PM perry_j1987: was setup for mach3 originally
12:38 PM roycroft: geeze, the scammers can't even be bothered to hand off the calls to live people any more
12:39 PM roycroft: i've gotten two scam calls about a "pre-authorized purchase from amazon.com" today, both totally computer generated, including the part asking me to log into the website and enter my cc number to "verify" that i want to block the charges if they are not legitimate
01:17 PM perry_j1987: lol
01:50 PM Tom_L: roycroft, are you sure they are computer generated? maybe they just sound like zombies from making so many dead end calls..
01:52 PM Tom_L: perry_j1987, the 06 driver has a bug in it anyway
01:54 PM roycroft: i'm sure they are computer generated
01:54 PM roycroft: the ones from "medicare services" still hand off to live scammers
02:27 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: what did those power connections end up meaning on the BOB?
03:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: is there some easy way to simply reroute scammer calls to other scammers?
03:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: that would be a popular phone app
03:16 PM roycroft: if only i could route them directly to 911, without the details of my routing being revealed
03:16 PM roycroft: if 911 dispatchers start getting flooded with spam/scam calls, i'm confident something would be done about the problem quickly
03:17 PM roycroft: (and quickly means "within a few years" when it comes to the legislature or justice department)
03:45 PM perry_j1987: both just 5v
03:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: route them directly to the legislature or justice department
03:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: save a step
03:55 PM roycroft: that will just go to their staff, and they won't care (the legislators and prosecutors won't)
03:55 PM roycroft: but if i could forward the calls to the legislature's or justice department's preferred escort service, there would be quick action
03:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: if only there was some way to track how the money gets distributed from phone spammers
03:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: oh there is
03:57 PM roycroft: i don't see how there's much money in it at all
03:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: enough to keep the phone co's happy
03:58 PM roycroft: but maybe are more gullible than i think, and i think people are pretty gullible
03:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: any income they get from this is more important than your being irritated
04:00 PM roycroft: after all, tens of milions of people got taken by the biggest charlatan of all time in 2016, and again by that same flimflam man in 2020
04:00 PM roycroft: so based on experience, my bar is pretty low
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'm only gullible about things they tell me to be gullible about :)
04:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: are they connected to the USB 5V through a jumper?
04:02 PM perry_j1987: i havnt looked
04:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: that BOB looks popular now
04:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i have a bunch of the previously popular BOB's
04:04 PM perry_j1987: it seems nice
04:04 PM perry_j1987: been running one on the 6040 since 2018 no problems
04:05 PM perry_j1987: i got speed control and spindle enable relay working on the stock mini lathe board now with the BOB
04:05 PM perry_j1987: i just leave the forward/rev switch wired to the lathe since i only run it in forward anyways
04:05 PM perry_j1987: but i got enough relays i could wire those up if i needed
04:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I don't use the PWM for the spindle but I think it goes from 10V down to ~0.5V on these older BOB's
04:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: yours goes all the way down to 0.0V but just shy of the 10V at 9.7V or so?
04:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah "ok i just tested the pot and it is sweeping 0-11.93v"
04:16 PM Tom_L: no load?
04:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and this is off which pot?
04:16 PM perry_j1987: ya so the pot was sweeping 0-12v
04:17 PM perry_j1987: hooked up the 0-10 off this BOB and apparently im getting full speed out of it...
04:17 PM perry_j1987: the encoder is registering 1100 rpm at max
04:17 PM perry_j1987: which is what low gear is stated on this mini lathe
04:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: which pot? Connected where and to what?
04:18 PM perry_j1987: the pot on the mini lathe
04:19 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71b4yQR-bnL._AC_SL1001_.jpg
04:21 PM perry_j1987: the pot on the bob i dint know what it is
04:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: these are the BOB's I have https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachments/30055/bob-mj57.png
04:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: "pot on the mini lathe" I'm trying to follow you to be clear for posterity
04:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/9fc4a8332f9638515cd199dd0f9238da/9/3/93212_I.jpg is this the lathe?
04:24 PM perry_j1987: the speed control knob on the mini lathe
04:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: are you referring to the pot located on the lathe itself?
04:24 PM perry_j1987: sweeps 0-12v
04:24 PM perry_j1987: ya
04:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah, is that connected to the BOB in any way?
04:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: <-- asking like a 5 year old
04:25 PM perry_j1987: ya i disconnected the pot
04:25 PM perry_j1987: and wired p2 and p3 on the mini lathe to the 0-10v on the BOB
04:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah OK
04:26 PM perry_j1987: there was an AC switch built into the pot as well that enables the spindle
04:26 PM perry_j1987: i wired that to P2 relay
04:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: how are you supplying power TO the BOB?
04:27 PM Tom_L: hampster treadmill
04:27 PM perry_j1987: it gets 24v from the PSU
04:27 PM perry_j1987: and there is a usb cord to the computer too
04:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: oh both!
04:28 PM perry_j1987: i got the computer on shore power
04:28 PM perry_j1987: and the lathe is running off an inverter and a large battery bank lol
04:28 PM perry_j1987: as well as the BOB's 24v and stepper motors etc
04:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: maybe your BOB has protection diodes for the the voltage regulator 5V to isolate it from the USB 5V
04:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or you got lucky with not having a jumper connected between the two sources
04:32 PM perry_j1987: i think its two sep circuits on this BOB
04:32 PM Tom_L: or it was a fuse
04:32 PM perry_j1987: the 5v for the inputs is powered by USB
04:32 PM perry_j1987: and 5v for stepper motor drivers is from the 12/24v to 5v regulator
04:34 PM perry_j1987: i got the boring head on the lathe now and boring holes on the spindle line for gang tooling now :)
04:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: if you unplug the USB cable, do the inputs still behave as expected?
04:36 PM perry_j1987: i'll ahve to wait after this bore job to test that
04:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: also, what do the Relay Control jumpers do?
04:39 PM perry_j1987: enables the relay or not
04:39 PM perry_j1987: lets you use it as an output pin or relay
04:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ah OK
04:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: thanks
04:39 PM perry_j1987: i dont know what charge pump is
04:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RErLu73-Xno
04:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it is used to disable the motor and spindle drives when the PC has either hung or is shutting down
04:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: or LCNC is not running etc
04:45 PM perry_j1987: ya i'd like to setup the motors to go idle
04:45 PM perry_j1987: though i do like the extra heat generated for the shop in winter lol
05:06 PM _unreal_: ok FINALLY got to my @%#@$%# trailer
05:07 PM _unreal_: I think this weekend I'll be moving my trailer from the storage park to this house.
05:07 PM _unreal_: That will help me A LOT!
05:07 PM CloudEvil: :)
05:07 PM _unreal_: I can finally clear out everthying that is in it. :( what ever is usable if anything
05:07 PM _unreal_: its just so far out of the way to get to the location
05:08 PM _unreal_: blows my mind. I've been spending $1400 EVER @$@q#$w%@$# YEAR to store the thing.
05:08 PM _unreal_: every
05:09 PM _unreal_: and my father just asked me so WHY dont you keep that trailer here and save money.
05:09 PM _unreal_: yet HE is the one that said it CANT be
05:09 PM _unreal_: just blows mymind
05:09 PM _unreal_: so WHAT EVER
05:10 PM _unreal_: this weekend I'm going to collect it or tomorrow night
05:10 PM _unreal_: depends on if my daughter is going to her mothers or not
05:19 PM CloudEvil: Good luck with the sorting.
05:20 PM _unreal_: what sucks is my TREK 800 is in that trailer. I'm 100% sure its TOTALLY destoryed
05:20 PM _unreal_: so I just the measurements I needed so I could confirm I can put the trailer down the side of the house
05:21 PM _unreal_: and I also discovered that the front support stand has been destoryed and its been sitting nose down.
05:21 PM _unreal_: its not designed to shed water fwd so I'm sure the FRONT end inside has been a frog pod :(
05:21 PM CloudEvil: I assume you do not mean the bike.
05:22 PM _unreal_: yes
05:22 PM _unreal_: I do mean the bike
05:22 PM _unreal_: I have a really nice air compressor in there and a lot of other expensive stuff. but its just so hard to get to
05:22 PM _unreal_: and opening it is a pain as well
05:22 PM _unreal_: sigh
05:23 PM _unreal_: I really almost dont even want to open it.
05:23 PM _unreal_: will be depressing to see just how much more stuff my "father" has destoryed of mine. by his @#$%@#$%@ choices...
05:23 PM _unreal_: all I want to do is escape
05:24 PM _unreal_: On a positive note. looks like GME/AMC stocks are getting ready to SKY ROCKET
05:25 PM _unreal_: if they do I stand to make a lot of money fingers crossed
05:25 PM _unreal_: same with a bunch of stocks I have
05:58 PM roycroft: buying reddit stocks can be fun, but is not a serious investment strategy
05:59 PM JT-Shop: machining the wedge jig
06:00 PM * roycroft wonders why it is that whenever he is pressed for time and attempts to shut down a windows vm and get out the door, windows decides that will install updates, and does not permit an immediate shutdown
06:00 PM JT-Shop: doing the down cut ops
06:00 PM JT-Shop: pull the plug
06:01 PM roycroft: i'll just be fashionably late
06:01 PM JT-Shop: windblows 10 has never installed an update on my laptop
06:02 PM roycroft: most of the vms don't, unless i intentionally do it
06:02 PM roycroft: most of the vms don't need internet access - just local network access
06:02 PM roycroft: i do that by configuring networking but using a bogus gateway
06:03 PM JT-Shop: what is a vms?
06:03 PM roycroft: virtual machine
06:03 PM JT-Shop: ah
06:03 PM roycroft: vms is plural
06:03 PM roycroft: this one i use to manage fiber networks, so it needs to be able to talk to the outside
06:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: are windwos updates like setting up a cron job in Linux to run updates whenever you try to shutdown or log out?
06:08 PM JT-Shop: guess I'll do the up cuts tomorrow... looks like 6 more passes on the down cuts
06:17 PM JT-Shop: I see I'm going to have to tweak the code for the guide a bit it's 6 thou under
06:19 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, pics...
06:20 PM JT-Shop: tomorrow
06:55 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:52 PM enleth: roycroft: I always suspend my windows VMs instead of shutting them down, for this specific reason
07:53 PM enleth: they're huge anyway, a bunch more space for the RAM dump makes little difference
07:55 PM unterhausen: the monitor I bought has dvi connectors, but a switch so it knows you are using digital or analog video
07:56 PM enleth: CaptHindsight[m]: it's actually the second stage of an update that is happening on shutdown - the initial install happened at some point when the VM is in use, just like cron job that checks for updates every x hours, but some updates need the second stage done, when system services are down, and that is scheduled for shutdown
07:58 PM enleth: of course, MS developers not giving a rat's ass about the user's needs and circumstances, there is neither a warning nor a way to postpone this at that point
07:59 PM enleth: got a flight in two hours? ha ha fuck you, we're doing updates, to hell with you and your stupid flight
08:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: a feature
08:34 PM CloudEvil: It's not so bad if it's a flight.
08:34 PM CloudEvil: Worse if it's a landing.
08:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: why I hear that people run stripped down versions of winders with update services removed and ports blocked.... and plan on having to do a reinstall every few months
08:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: might just work for gaming
09:12 PM perry_j1987: just downloaded the iso of linuxcnc 2.2.2
09:12 PM perry_j1987: are there any major config changes between 2.7 and 2.8.2
09:14 PM Tom_L: a few yes
09:15 PM Tom_L: save the old one
09:15 PM Tom_L: when i did it, the config updater didn't catch them all either
09:15 PM Tom_L: motion. changed a few things
09:16 PM Tom_L: and joints were added.. i don't recall if they were in 2.7
09:16 PM Tom_L: so you have [AXIS] and [JOINT] in the ini
09:16 PM Tom_L: spindles were changed to support multiple spindles
09:17 PM Tom_L: those are the main ones i think
09:17 PM Tom_L: compare the docs for motion for 2.7 and 2.8 and you will see
09:18 PM perry_j1987: ya i think i remember joints section in the ini on 2.7
09:18 PM Tom_L: there are suttle changes to spindle with motion
09:19 PM Tom_L: hal, not ini
09:19 PM perry_j1987: i think tomorrow morning i'll throw a spare ssd in the computer and load up 2.8.2 and copy the configs over
09:19 PM perry_j1987: that way it doesnt mess with the working setup i got now
09:22 PM Tom_L: for example 2.7: net spindle-index-enable motion.spindle-index-enable <=> hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.encoder.01.index-enable
09:22 PM Tom_L: 2.8: net spindle-index-enable spindle.0.index-enable <=> hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.encoder.01.index-enable
09:23 PM Tom_L: but spindle is still part of motion
09:23 PM perry_j1987: if i dont have anything manually edited i could just make up a new stepconf i guess eh?
09:23 PM CloudEvil: https://ochafik.com/jekyll/update/2022/02/09/openscad-fast-csg-contibution.html hmm
09:24 PM Tom_L: perry_j1987, why?
09:24 PM Tom_L: it's not that hard to edit and you should get used to doing that
09:24 PM perry_j1987: aye i have to run off hotspot off my phone at the shop though
09:25 PM perry_j1987: googling is very hard barely enough data for IRC out there
09:25 PM Tom_L: just take note of the errors when it starts and it should even give you a line number
09:26 PM Tom_L: i only changed a handfull of lines
09:26 PM Tom_L: but the motion.spindle to spindle.0 threw me at first
09:27 PM perry_j1987: ok
09:27 PM Tom_L: i would copy a line and comment the good one then edit the spare :)
09:27 PM Tom_L: then when it worked, removed the commented one
09:27 PM perry_j1987: good method
09:28 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/man/man9/motion.9.html#SPINDLE%20PINS
09:30 PM Tom_L: there are a few settings left in or duplicated in [AXIS] but most were moved to [JOINT]
09:30 PM Tom_L: not sure why but i found a couple needed to be both places
09:36 PM perry_j1987: hear anything new in 2.9?
09:39 PM _unreal_: hum
09:39 PM Tom_L: i dunno
09:40 PM Tom_L: haven't been paying attention much
09:40 PM Tom_L: alot of doc translating going on and a push to get lcnc into mainstream debian
09:48 PM perry_j1987: that would be cool
09:53 PM Tom_L: it had been so long for a release, alot of changes were put into 2.8
09:56 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/2020/09/08/LinuxCNC-2.8.0/
09:57 PM Tom_L: there's the list
10:27 PM andypugh_ is now known as andypugh
