12:08 AM perry_j1987: you have a router lift?
12:16 AM perry_j1987: btw you can use your cnc router as a router table upside down
12:16 AM perry_j1987: just set you z height and go
12:16 AM perry_j1987: bed time
12:23 AM XXCoder: still bit sad myfordboy never did complete his 3d printer build project
12:23 AM XXCoder: guess he doesnt need one anymore
12:23 AM XXCoder: (has few revieed printers now)
12:24 AM XXCoder: latest he uses 3d printer and k40 to make nice train project https://youtu.be/yhU48Dv45z0
12:30 AM XXCoder: whats cool is ge also makes jigs for gluing
01:41 AM Deejay: moin
03:30 AM Loetmichel: hey, does anyone of the americans here know how much it would be to get a Ford F150 or similar to germany? over here those trucks cost a fortune, even if they are no more than a bucket of rust with a VIN... :(
05:10 AM Tom_L: morning
05:22 AM JT-Cave: morningh
08:58 AM CloudEvil: Loetmichel: Used and new prices on vehicles are comedically high at the moment
08:59 AM CloudEvil: Loetmichel: Plus, US regulation on rust;.. . is MUCH lower than .de, so you're likely to need to do a LOT of repair on an older one to get it to standard.
08:59 AM CloudEvil: Plus, you are costing gasoline usage?
09:03 AM enleth: Loetmichel: see the current series on Steve Summers' channel for an idea of how much work it is to fix a used truck like this
09:03 AM enleth: he worked in a car body shop in his youth and he's still taking weeka
09:03 AM enleth: *weeks
09:07 AM enleth: Loetmichel: if he keeps replacing rusted parts at that rate, he's going to end up with a Truck of Theseus
09:15 AM perry_j1987: morning
09:16 AM Tom_L: hi
09:16 AM Loetmichel: enleth: jep, i know those cars
09:16 AM perry_j1987: Loetmichel i'd assume whatever the cost of a shipping container right?
09:17 AM Loetmichel: perry_j1987: plus the cost of getting it to german DMV standards
09:17 AM perry_j1987: i hear they have Diesel ford rangers in germany
09:17 AM perry_j1987: would have been nice to get those here
09:17 AM CloudEvil: perry_j1987: cost of a shipping container is approaching an order of magnitude in some places what it was three years ago.
09:18 AM Loetmichel: <- just saw an F15 here from 1996, barely more than rust: 18kEur... insane
09:18 AM Loetmichel: f150
09:19 AM Tom_L: hard to get good iron now
09:19 AM Tom_L: plastic is abundant
09:19 AM Loetmichel: perry_j1987: you dont want a diesel in germany. State is basically disowning you lately. not allowed into citys, high tax, very hard to pass enviroment checks, etc.
09:23 AM perry_j1987: ah
09:24 AM perry_j1987: have you upgraded the X on any of your 6040's Loetmichel
09:25 AM Loetmichel: nope
09:27 AM perry_j1987: im so very tempted
09:28 AM perry_j1987: i just put a 200mm z axis on mine
09:39 AM perry_j1987: its real nice having the travel. i got a tool setter on there
11:06 AM solarwind: @Loetmichel hello
11:06 AM solarwind: Had to reconfigure my IRC client on my new computer
11:13 AM Loetmichel: hehe
01:52 PM unterhaus_: if I want to make my solidworks model less spongy when I 3d print it, do I just mess with cura settings?
01:55 PM roycroft: yes, you adjust the infill percentage, and perhaps wall thickness
01:55 PM unterhaus_: thanks
01:56 PM * roycroft is going to mix up some japanning formulae today and will start experimenting with applying it soon
01:56 PM roycroft: i need to hit up some art supply stores to see if i can find some natural turpentine
01:57 PM roycroft: the stuff one gets from the home improvement stores/paint stores is petroeum based
01:57 PM roycroft: and supposedly inferior for japanning
01:57 PM roycroft: i want to try both and compare
02:12 PM unterhaus_: what do artists use it for?
02:16 PM Tom_L: unterhaus_, sniffing?
02:17 PM unterhaus_: yeah, probably
02:17 PM Tom_L: gets the creative juices flowing
02:25 PM miss0r: evening
02:26 PM miss0r: We have a pretty desent storm blowing through at the moment. I just ran to the neighbors house to help her tie down her tramboline.. She decided to grap a hold on it while it was about to take off and yell for help. lol
02:26 PM miss0r: I anchored ours down earlier today, way before it started to blow
02:26 PM Tom_L: happened once to some kids in a bouncy house but the outcome wasn't quite as good
02:26 PM miss0r: ouch
02:27 PM miss0r: happily I had some cargo straps and some 3ft earth anchors handy
02:28 PM Tom_L: school in Australia
02:28 PM miss0r: but here on our side of the pond it usualy doesn't get all that windy. The extend is a few trampolines and the odd tree going down.. that is it. We usualy don't have houses torn down
02:28 PM miss0r: the bouncy castle?
02:28 PM Tom_L: yes i think so
02:28 PM miss0r: You know, I seem to recall hearing about it a while back
02:33 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:35 PM JT-Shop: some cat from south georgia want to buy my chuck set https://semo.craigslist.org/tls/d/poplar-bluff-wood-lathe-chuck-set/7434650560.html
02:35 PM JT-Shop: wants to know if my price is flexible and does it include shipping lol
02:35 PM JT-Shop: CL is cash only and you pick it up
02:36 PM JT-Shop: if you want to buy it I'll add it to my store and add paypal fees and you can pick the shipping method
02:37 PM JT-Shop: I refunded the air filter guy this morning and canceled the invoice for shipping... lets see if that gets his attention or not
02:50 PM Thorhian: Anyone here familiar with DIY BT30 drawbar grippers? I have a green BT30 spindle that I just use with a threaded rod as a manual drawbar, but it it looks like there is room behind the taper for a gripper of some kind.
03:29 PM Thorhian: Well NVM actually.
03:39 PM XXCoder: is it type that have drawer bar all way to top of spindle and you bolt on and off ato top?
03:39 PM XXCoder: if so, it can be automated
03:40 PM Thorhian: Yes, I put the bolt in from the top. Doing some rough checks though it looks like the bore isn't the right shape for a petal gripper.
03:41 PM XXCoder: I remember watching a video where it essentally does what you do, but automated
03:41 PM XXCoder: you just hit switch and it unbolts
03:42 PM Thorhian: I think I have seen something like that in person on a Bridgeport for an R8 collet.
03:43 PM XXCoder: I have BT30 standard toolholder here lol
03:44 PM XXCoder: bought one as demonstion thing but never panned out due to covid
03:45 PM Thorhian: Yeah, they have an M12 thread where you would normally insert a pull stud.
03:46 PM XXCoder: I feel it can be changed to pull tab using type in spindle but dunno really
03:47 PM Thorhian: I'm pretty sure there is room enough for one of those ball type grippers.
03:48 PM Thorhian: Problem is, I don't have the capability to grind and make the gripper. I'd probably be better off using a screw type auto-changer.
03:49 PM XXCoder: probably
03:49 PM Thorhian: Or make enough money to buy a superior spindle lol.
03:49 PM XXCoder: :)
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Loetmichel: before Covid one could ship a car just about anywhere in the world for ~$2k from the USA
04:02 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Loetmichel: would you really want to pay the costs of fuel for an F150?
04:21 PM _unreal_: creating a windows cracking disk image now. just got a nice i3 all in one screen/pc from goodwill for $10
04:21 PM _unreal_: didnt have a PSU but I have a usable one
04:22 PM _unreal_: just need to get past the WIN10 log in
04:22 PM _unreal_: saddly it has the updated version of win10 that fixes the bypass to wipe out the password
04:24 PM _unreal_: has anyone played with lazesoft before
05:24 PM _unreal_: god admin
05:57 PM roycroft: well i've made four different japanning formulations
05:58 PM roycroft: it will take a few days for the gilsonite and resin to dissolve, so i should be able to experiment with them next weekend or so
05:59 PM roycroft: which is good, because i'm still looking for a cheap, decent toaster oven to use for heating up parts
05:59 PM roycroft: japanning needs to be baked on
06:04 PM _unreal_: GOT IT
06:04 PM _unreal_: win10 version 1809 passwords defeated
06:06 PM Tom_L: roycroft, i got one you can have if you come get it
06:06 PM Tom_L: i put an avr on it for solder reflow
06:07 PM roycroft: i've spotted a couple at thrift stores that would work
06:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/oven.jpg
06:07 PM roycroft: i just need to finish making the rounds before i buy one
06:07 PM Tom_L: 4 element instead of 2
06:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/insul2.jpg
06:08 PM Tom_L: and a little customization
06:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/toaster_oven/control_mounted1.jpg
06:18 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, you live?
06:23 PM _unreal_: quiet night
06:23 PM _unreal_: no one be talking
06:28 PM Tom_L: great aint it?
06:32 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, start cutting up your rails yet?
06:38 PM _unreal_: nope
06:38 PM _unreal_: just got them
06:39 PM _unreal_: I cant cut them till I start building
06:39 PM _unreal_: and I just got a @#@^$%$%# hickup
06:39 PM Tom_L: i figured you had plans made already
06:39 PM _unreal_: I have plans
06:39 PM _unreal_: BUT
06:40 PM _unreal_: first I have to build the base
06:40 PM _unreal_: once I build the base then I have to get my SBR rails mounted
06:40 PM _unreal_: got to make sure the SBR rails are 99% accurate parallel
06:41 PM _unreal_: then I can work on mounting the Y arms and getting the final measurement to cut the extrusion
06:41 PM _unreal_: but the hickup
06:41 PM _unreal_: I've had it with the company I work for
06:41 PM _unreal_: I'm bringing home the other machine I was building this comming work weak
06:41 PM _unreal_: week
06:42 PM _unreal_: and that machine is not small
06:42 PM _unreal_: and its 90% done
06:42 PM Tom_L: i thought you finished that one
06:42 PM _unreal_: once I get all of my tool out of that companeys home base of operations
06:42 PM _unreal_: no
06:43 PM _unreal_: I had ONE part I needed to get milled
06:43 PM _unreal_: I just got it milled a week ago
06:43 PM _unreal_: its the MAIN mount to mount the Z
06:43 PM _unreal_: everything was designed around it so I had no choice.
06:44 PM _unreal_: sadly I just lost more or less all of today. I had a tire blow out last night when I was suposed to bring my daughter to her mothers
06:44 PM _unreal_: didnt go
06:44 PM _unreal_: and today it took them 7 hours to get my tires changed
06:44 PM Tom_L: fun
06:45 PM _unreal_: my daughter and I walked all over the place in Hillsboro florida
06:45 PM _unreal_: ya
06:45 PM _unreal_: 4 FUCKING nails in one tire, front right
06:45 PM _unreal_: when I was on the turnpike
06:45 PM _unreal_: just mind blowing
06:46 PM _unreal_: I'm in AAAH that my rear right didnt get any
06:46 PM _unreal_: so ya....
06:46 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, non related question
06:46 PM Tom_L: front collected em all for ya
06:46 PM _unreal_: so I currently have TWO all in one/screen computers
06:47 PM _unreal_: one is an i3 the other is an AMD something.....
06:47 PM _unreal_: I also have a 3rd on the way that is due to me, that one has a touch screen
06:47 PM _unreal_: now aside from the one with the touch screen. if you had a choice. what would you go with for a linuxcnc setup? i3 8gb ram, or amd.... omething 16gb ram?
06:48 PM Tom_L: the one with the best latency test
06:48 PM Tom_L: burn a live cd and test without installing
06:48 PM Tom_L: fiddle with the bios to get them the best you can
06:48 PM _unreal_: HP 1155 all-in-one business pc
06:49 PM unterhaus: someone I know in New Jersey got 22 inches of snow yesterday
06:49 PM Tom_L: we can just let them keep that up there ehh?
06:50 PM _unreal_: I have not even seen frost in like 8 years
06:50 PM _unreal_: muhahahahaha
06:51 PM t4nk_freenode: mind frost :b
06:51 PM t4nk_freenode: brain freeze, lol
06:51 PM _unreal_: ok.... the amd one is a no brainer :/ AMD Dual-Core E1-1500 Processor Graphics (1.48-GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 2
06:51 PM _unreal_: and the other one being an I3
06:51 PM _unreal_: yaa.....
06:51 PM Tom_L: doesn't mean much
06:52 PM Tom_L: latency numbers is what you need
06:52 PM _unreal_: hum
06:52 PM t4nk_freenode: ptidumpti
06:53 PM _unreal_: well the good part is that the LINUXCNC setup cnc machine is comming home
06:53 PM _unreal_: so I can at least finally finish that
06:53 PM _unreal_: its just the Z and its a finished system
06:53 PM _unreal_: I've been waiting a YEAR trying to that the Z mount milled
06:54 PM t4nk_freenode: the it of it is great indeed... not so much for my pc though :|
06:54 PM _unreal_: I luck of the draw asked the right person at the right time if the machine shop in the x ship yard could mill the part. the other company never got it done
06:54 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, ?
06:54 PM t4nk_freenode: I messed something up
06:54 PM _unreal_: HUH?
06:54 PM t4nk_freenode: had some kind of crash trying to run flatcam
06:55 PM _unreal_: oh
06:55 PM t4nk_freenode: now my keyboard is broken ... and bCNC won't work anymore either
06:55 PM _unreal_: WHAT DID YOU DO...
06:55 PM _unreal_: hehe
06:55 PM _unreal_: at least the controller holds all of the settings
06:55 PM t4nk_freenode: it's crazy
06:55 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah
06:56 PM t4nk_freenode: luckily, because I got an unfinished pcb on the machine
06:56 PM _unreal_: ouch
06:56 PM t4nk_freenode: I did lose my probe data though
06:56 PM _unreal_: cant touch this....
06:58 PM t4nk_freenode: I'll just manually mill away the rest of the copper.. isolation has been done
06:58 PM t4nk_freenode: it's kind of fun doing it manually
06:58 PM t4nk_freenode: but kind of dangerous
06:58 PM t4nk_freenode: hehe
06:59 PM _unreal_: surrrrrre
06:59 PM t4nk_freenode: last time I nearly took off an entire row of pin-holes, lol
06:59 PM _unreal_: carbide create is great for wiping up surface milling areas
06:59 PM t4nk_freenode: missed it by a hair
06:59 PM _unreal_: but I own estlcam so I use that more
07:00 PM t4nk_freenode: flatcam is supposed to be nice too
07:00 PM t4nk_freenode: but it's a bit difficult
07:00 PM _unreal_: flatcam is good for PCB but I've found it useless for much else
07:01 PM t4nk_freenode: sure, it's flat ;)
07:02 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, that amd computer has an SMA video card HD7310
07:02 PM _unreal_: though I have a feeling all 3 will have the same thing going on
07:03 PM _unreal_: so ya I'm a little annoyed, I just spent a bunch of money on parts for this new build. BUT at this point I've now had it with the company I work for.... so :S heh
07:05 PM _unreal_: chances are the company that I'm going to be switching to does not have a CNC machine. they will openly except me briging mine in.
07:06 PM _unreal_: so ya...
07:06 PM _unreal_: soon as I get it home. I'm going to go nuts trying to get the Z finished
07:06 PM _unreal_: and
07:06 PM _unreal_: oh DID that guy from last week or when ever. ever get the PENDENT figured out with lcnc
07:06 PM _unreal_: ?'
07:07 PM Tom_L: what gets me is these ppl work on $$$ equipment and don't have the right stuff do do it
07:07 PM Tom_L: to do
07:08 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, his pendant is working
07:16 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: yeah?
08:53 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKd1luTGQvI nice idea. caliper clock
08:53 PM _unreal_: friken hell
08:53 PM _unreal_: 48f out side
08:53 PM _unreal_: BURRRRR
08:54 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: what did you want me for?
08:54 PM _unreal_: been talked over long story short toying with computer choices
08:54 PM XXCoder: 48f. nice and warm
08:54 PM _unreal_: I'm in florida
08:54 PM _unreal_: thats like -42
08:54 PM XXCoder: 46f here
08:55 PM _unreal_: and we have no heat in the house
08:56 PM XXCoder: lost power?
08:56 PM _unreal_: flor..id..aaaa
08:57 PM _unreal_: f'ing cold is like once a decade
08:57 PM XXCoder: lol ok
08:57 PM _unreal_: and I'm in south florida
08:57 PM _unreal_: hell todays high was what 64f
08:58 PM _unreal_: so what was the resolve to get his pendent going?
08:59 PM _unreal_: I last time south florida had frost was.... 2005
08:59 PM XXCoder: dunno
08:59 PM _unreal_: I am now wrapped in a blanket
09:00 PM _unreal_: so as far as parts go I now got my extrusion, and rails
09:00 PM _unreal_: waiting on my spindle
09:00 PM _unreal_: though on a side note that other BIG cnc I was working on.I'm bringing home this coming week
09:00 PM _unreal_: I'm going to be leaving the company I've been with for the past 8 years
09:00 PM _unreal_: I cant take the bs any more
09:24 PM perry_j1987: g'evening
09:27 PM perry_j1987: Tom_L better looking than my reflow oven heh. it has the grease tray taken out and a breadboard sitting in it ontop of the oven with all the electronics prototyped on it
09:27 PM perry_j1987: just seen your pic from 5:52
09:47 PM XXCoder: excellent channel! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7Jf7t6BL4e74O53dL6arSw
09:48 PM XXCoder: rss for it https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UC7Jf7t6BL4e74O53dL6arSw
09:48 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UC7Jf7t6BL4e74O53dL6arSwhttps://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UC7Jf7t6BL4e74O53dL6arSw
09:48 PM XXCoder: oops
10:17 PM roycroft: well that is interesting
10:20 PM _unreal_: so very interesting, been going through the data on this computer I got from goodwill. seems it is the president of a major ecommerce company's personal computer.
10:21 PM roycroft: they should have scrubbed the disk before selling it
10:21 PM _unreal_: lot of personal data, business data and .... porn
10:21 PM roycroft: and since they didn't, you should
10:22 PM _unreal_: in one folder the guy has lots of photos of him his kids his wife, and internet porn
10:22 PM _unreal_: heheheheh
10:22 PM roycroft: i always scrub disks before selling/donating them
10:22 PM _unreal_: no argument
10:22 PM _unreal_: one of the last computers I got from goodwill was from a lawyer who died. TOTALLY FULL of client data
10:24 PM _unreal_: there is like 10k personal photos then like 5k or less porn photos
10:25 PM Tom_L: at least he had a good balance
10:25 PM _unreal_: and lots of 3GP phone videos of little kids 5yo or less
10:26 PM XXCoder: wow super unsafe https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/sfqijh/dont_be_like_this_guy_people_in_the_northeast/
10:27 PM _unreal_: just because you cant see his head sticking out the drivers side window doesnt mean he cant see
10:28 PM XXCoder: still unsafe
10:29 PM _unreal_: tomorrow I'm going to wipe that computer out and load a clean windows install
10:29 PM _unreal_: its going to my daughter
10:29 PM Tom_L: good idea :)
10:29 PM _unreal_: Mainly what I was interested in is if the "owner" was into crypto
10:29 PM _unreal_: and alive
10:30 PM _unreal_: I've seen a few "jack pot" winners now who got second hand computers and they had crypto wallets on them.
10:31 PM t4nk_freenode: 5k and 10k don't seem overly much though.. only a few pixels worth
10:31 PM _unreal_: ?
10:32 PM t4nk_freenode: the average picture is probably 1Mb in size
10:32 PM t4nk_freenode: 5k gets younothing
10:32 PM XXCoder: t4nk_freenode: he meant 5k pictures
10:32 PM XXCoder: as in seperate files
10:32 PM Tom_L: 1st hand knowledge?
10:33 PM t4nk_freenode: thanks for explaining ;)
10:36 PM t4nk_freenode: I got this conductive paste sort of stuff... I'm gonna try and patch my beloved old keyboard up with it
10:36 PM t4nk_freenode: I miss it so much
10:38 PM Tom_L: must not be that old... mine has cherry keys or such on it
10:38 PM t4nk_freenode: that's kewl
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: mmmm... milling a keyboard.. that would be nice
10:39 PM Tom_L: last time i spilt something on it i wound up desoldering half dozen or so and cleaning them
10:39 PM t4nk_freenode: coke and coffee, I almost cried when I did that last time
10:41 PM Tom_L: excuse me, alps keys
10:41 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Omnikey_key/alps2.jpg
10:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Omnikey_key/alps3.jpg
10:42 PM _unreal_: geez.... I never eat food or sticky drinks over my keyboard....
10:43 PM _unreal_: and I've never spilled beer on it ether
10:43 PM Tom_L: i got 2 of those kbds
10:43 PM Tom_L: quite reliable
10:44 PM Tom_L: i got a few keytop replacements for them early on for the 'home' keys etc that i wore smooth
10:44 PM XXCoder: apple alumboard keyboard. only apple product I own
10:44 PM XXCoder: its 14 years old
10:45 PM Tom_L: this has the original large pc kbd plug
10:45 PM XXCoder: nice lol
10:45 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't venture a guess to it's age
10:46 PM Tom_L: over 25?
10:46 PM XXCoder: I have ibm xt keyboard somewhere. heavy lol
10:47 PM Tom_L: yes, this is a very heavy kbd
10:47 PM Tom_L: guess i have both extremes of kbd
10:48 PM Tom_L: newest is a wireless logi mxkeys
10:48 PM perry_j1987: lol
10:49 PM Tom_L: i kinda like em both in different ways
10:50 PM perry_j1987: mm this is a good beer
10:50 PM Tom_L: just don't spill it on the kbd :)
10:50 PM perry_j1987: i've done that heh
10:51 PM perry_j1987: got stuck having to buy one of those split keyboards back when they were ALL THE RAGE cause it was only one in stock in the only store open at beginining of a long weekend once
10:51 PM perry_j1987: still stings having to make that purchase heh
10:51 PM Tom_L: never could get into those
10:52 PM XXCoder: all the rage, bt only ones on stock? heh
10:52 PM XXCoder: weird combo
