05:43 AM unterhaus: they have the snow plows out driving around but it's not going to snow until Sunday
05:51 AM pere: preemtive snow removal. cool.
06:15 AM enleth: unterhaus: checking routes and equipment, most likely
06:16 AM unterhaus: they've been getting a workout, I can't imagine they forgot where the roads go
06:16 AM unterhaus: in the last 3 days
06:16 AM enleth: ok, that's weird
06:18 AM enleth: one or two roundtrips would be checking for obstructions, those things are big and drive where no other big municipal vehicles routinely go
06:29 AM unterhaus: I'm sure they have their reasons, it's just that they would normally wait until the night before the storm to move equipment
06:30 AM unterhaus: I had to go check the forecast to see if I was wrong about when the storm was coming
06:32 AM unterhaus: client told me the welder he works with warned that he'll be fixing snowplows on Monday and Tuesday
06:49 AM pere: is here anyone who are able to translate to italian here? Two percent left on <URL: https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/linuxcnc/#languages >.
07:53 AM randy: "no parlo italiano, scusa" :)
07:56 AM randy: how does the tool works, btw?
07:57 AM randy: to be honest, i dont get it. there are words like "linuxcnc" which cannot be translated but flagged as missing when i click on "missing"
08:24 AM pere: randy: weblate present the strings in the PO file generated from the strings flagged by the developers are translatable, and ask translaters to write it in their own language. if "linuxcnc" is a word to translate, it need to be discussed with the developers of the code.

08:56 AM perry_j1987: was at the shop till midnight but i got the new extended z axis installed
10:00 AM perry_j1987: hows everyone this mornin
11:00 AM perry_j1987: https://www.spindel-shop.de/en/stc-tool-change-adapters/tool-change-adapters/Air-Cooled-HF-Spindles--HF-Spindle--HF-Spindles--HF-Spindle--HF-Spindles--Motorspindle--Milling-Spindle--Grinding-Spindle-22-365-458-459-482.html fun
11:53 AM JT-Cave: lunch minute is up back to work
12:02 PM * JT-MachineShop came home with a check for copy lathe #2 and a list of parts to order for #3
12:11 PM roycroft: retirement is keeping you busy, eh?
12:15 PM JT-MachineShop: looks that way
12:15 PM JT-MachineShop: I don't go looking for work it finds me
12:16 PM roycroft: that's the price you pay for competenc
12:16 PM roycroft: e
12:17 PM JT-MachineShop: LOL I suppose so
12:43 PM unterhaus: JT, you mostly program with just python and lcnc hal for things like the copy lathe?
12:48 PM JT-MachineShop: for industrial I use mostly PLC's but I have used a Raspberry Pi 3 and a Python program to collect data from a PLC in 3 vibration welders
12:49 PM JT-MachineShop: usually I use Automation Direct Click PLC's but some older equipment I work on has Allen Bradley PLC's and few odd ones
12:49 PM JT-MachineShop: I need to take a video of the copy lathe
12:50 PM unterhaus: I would like to see a video
12:51 PM JT-MachineShop: https://gnipsel.com/images/customers/Foxy/
12:51 PM JT-MachineShop: different machine same place
12:52 PM JT-MachineShop: that's the spoke lathes I converted to auto feeding and running
12:53 PM JT-MachineShop: all the stuff that doesn't look 200 years old I made
01:14 PM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
01:22 PM jdh: I wrote some AB DataHighway+ code for VMS many years ago.
01:23 PM jdh: In case you wanted to hook your VAX up to a 1784kt
01:42 PM perry_j1987: i really need to get some sort of square in this shop
01:42 PM perry_j1987: at least a 123 block would be handy
01:46 PM JT-MachineShop: a cheap set of machinist squares does come in handy
01:48 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
01:48 PM Tom_L: yup
01:52 PM t4nk_freenode: when I broke my z-axis nema mount yesterday( again.).. while mounting some new collars.. I replaced it( provisionally) with some real metal mount. But then as I was fastening the collars, I noticed that my flex coupling.. was.... u'll never guess.. was.. flexing!
01:52 PM t4nk_freenode: *sigh*(
01:53 PM t4nk_freenode: this is of course due to the fact that the whole thing will run quite heavy at the moment
01:53 PM t4nk_freenode: but still, that is not really what I like
01:54 PM t4nk_freenode: you don't notice it when moving normally, but when measuring backlash, and moving in very small steps
01:54 PM t4nk_freenode: it's quite agonizing
01:55 PM t4nk_freenode: so I just printed a couple of couplers, wasn't sure if they'd be any good but they say it's ok
02:06 PM Alicrow-phone: JT-MachineShop: that's a very interesting lathe. I've never seen one with a giant cutterhead mounted to it.
02:07 PM JT-MachineShop: the last ones were made in 1914 so they are all over 200 years old
02:14 PM CloudEvil: 2021 was a long year, but I don't think it was quite that long.
03:01 PM jdh: maybe 2020 and 2021 counted for 50 each
03:09 PM JT-MachineShop: err 100 lol
03:09 PM JT-MachineShop: they started producing them in the early 1800's
03:09 PM perry_j1987: are parallels square on their ends?
03:10 PM perry_j1987: anything you can count on?
03:10 PM perry_j1987: i dont have a square reference in this shop yet lol
03:11 PM jdh: no 123 block? vblock?
03:11 PM perry_j1987: nothin
03:12 PM perry_j1987: nadda
03:13 PM perry_j1987: im attempting to squeese clamp my widest parallel vertical against a chunk of aluminum angle clamped to the table lol
03:13 PM perry_j1987: just to keep it vertical and the side of the parallel is referencing the table
03:25 PM JT-MachineShop: checking some of mine some ends are square and some aren't
03:25 PM JT-MachineShop: CloudEvil, actually 2020 lasted 100 years...
03:38 PM t4nk_freenode: the printed coupling nut looks to be just fine!
03:38 PM perry_j1987: should i get a set of 123 blocks
03:38 PM perry_j1987: or something else
03:38 PM perry_j1987: to reference the table to z axis
03:59 PM JT-MachineShop: you trying to orient a part parallel to Z?
03:59 PM perry_j1987: i put a new z axis on this 6040 router
04:00 PM * JT-MachineShop needs a pencil sharpener and feels bad using the B24 to sharpen the pencils
04:00 PM JT-MachineShop: trying to tram Z?
04:00 PM perry_j1987: ya
04:00 PM JT-MachineShop: do you have a fly cutter?
04:01 PM perry_j1987: from my limited measurement tools it appears if i sweep this parallel held vertical i read .2mm from top to bottom
04:01 PM perry_j1987: oddly... in both 3 oclock and 6 oclock positions
04:01 PM perry_j1987: i dont have a fly cutter
04:01 PM JT-MachineShop: you have an indicator?
04:01 PM perry_j1987: ya test indicator and dial indicator
04:02 PM perry_j1987: i have the arm from my mag base mounted to an m5 hole on the z carriage
04:02 PM JT-MachineShop: can you mount it in the spindle chuck and sweep the table with it?
04:02 PM perry_j1987: then i also tried the test indicator mounted horizontally in the spindle collet and sweeping up and down from the spindle too
04:02 PM JT-MachineShop: sweep the table
04:03 PM perry_j1987: ya but i need to sweep the z axis itself in first before the spindle?
04:03 PM JT-MachineShop: oh you don't even know if the axis and spindle are parallel?
04:03 PM perry_j1987: not yet
04:04 PM perry_j1987: i made new brackets to mount the new z axis onto the x carriage
04:04 PM JT-MachineShop: got a photo of the setup?
04:04 PM * JT-MachineShop goes to give the chickens some chicken crack brb
04:05 PM perry_j1987: i dont im out at the shop i barely have enough internet out here for IRC
05:50 PM JT-MachineShop: awesome I found the perfect piece of tubing to mount my XB-100 to
06:10 PM _unreal_: ve7it, are you around?
06:10 PM _unreal_: ve7it, so I have a question over motors. I have a really nice DC motor. but I dont want to put the encoder on it if I should not....
06:13 PM _unreal_: ve7it, so I have this motor zyt6832-24 https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.5454b1dddd3375e9dc3614a5acbdf2f0?rik=5WvmnPU0worgKQ&riu=http%3a%2f%2fwww.dexun-fuda.com%2fproduct%2fimg%2fzyt6832.jpg&ehk=MRVnIyO4HEzTqNgR8lFevq3x%2f3a3dS7kdMDe7b2pRs4%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw&r=0
06:15 PM _unreal_: Its a 100watt and I think it can do 1400-2000 RPM give or take? I dont know for sure. but its the most powerful motor I have. What I dont like is that it has internal brushes
06:15 PM _unreal_: very large brushes but internal
06:16 PM _unreal_: Would it be a good candidate to be my Y axis with twin lead screws. According to the documents for the OPA amps. There working capacity is 250watts o 30v 8A
06:16 PM _unreal_: o=or
06:17 PM _unreal_: I'd much prefer to use that motor for the most load requiring motor on the new cnc machine if/when I build it
06:19 PM _unreal_: ve7it, also the one thing I dont like about these encoders. The base "click" lock taps can not even take the install of the "encoder" two of them have hair line cracks just evenly pressing the encoder into its reciver base. oh well

08:51 PM roycroft: well my quandary has been resolved
08:52 PM roycroft: the concert on thursday next that i've been having mixed feelings about attending has been rescheduled for 26 may
08:52 PM Tom_L: snow til 10ish they say
08:53 PM roycroft: which is the best possible outcome from my point of view
08:53 PM XXCoder: quite a delay roy
08:53 PM roycroft: i want to go
08:53 PM XXCoder: yeah seem so
08:53 PM roycroft: but i'm concerned about the omicron strain
08:53 PM roycroft: apparently the venue operators are too
08:53 PM roycroft: because that's why they rescheduled
08:54 PM roycroft: the next concert on my schedule is 17 february
08:54 PM roycroft: i guess i'll know better about that when the date becomes closer
08:55 PM Tom_L: numbers are rising here too
08:58 PM XXCoder: its risiong rapidly in many places :(
08:58 PM XXCoder: omicrom may be bit less harmful, but such number of cases means more deaths anyway
09:04 PM _unreal_: ve7it, ?
09:04 PM _unreal_: sigh
09:22 PM roycroft: omicron is starting to peak in some areas
09:22 PM roycroft: it's expected to peak in most of the country within the next month
09:23 PM _unreal_: palm to face..... so let me get this straight..... flu seasons is going to peak, in the peak time of the year for flu season......
09:24 PM XXCoder: covid != flu
09:24 PM XXCoder: dont get it wrong
09:41 PM * roycroft will not go there tonight :)
10:14 PM roycroft: it was an especially delicious pizza tonight
10:14 PM XXCoder: lol nice
11:56 PM roycroft: well that was fun
11:56 PM roycroft: a nice little friday night network outage
11:56 PM roycroft: which required a truck roll downtown
11:57 PM roycroft: and wading through an unhoused camp with tools, a switch, and a backpack to get to the data center
11:57 PM XXCoder: wild network jungle
11:58 PM roycroft: it wasn't always this way
11:59 PM roycroft: oh well, mischief managed
