01:52 AM Deejay: moin
02:01 AM jfsimon1981: roycroft ok thanks, using the console mdi commands seems good, i'll deal with no gui at the moment or program a light one in c++ eventually.
02:01 AM jfsimon1981: thx
02:02 AM randy: monring

04:25 AM enleth: jfsimon1981: X11 forwarding for any existing GUI works well if you use xpra (https://xpra.org/) to proxy it, so it doesn't get killed if you lose connection and can be reattached
04:29 AM jfsimon1981: right thanks
05:02 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L

09:14 AM perry_j1987: morning
09:15 AM perry_j1987: chamfer holes and edges before or after facing a plate?
09:23 AM roycroft: i would face then chamfer
09:39 AM JT-Shop: yep
09:43 AM perry_j1987: k
09:44 AM perry_j1987: going to attempt making my first tooling / fixture plate lol
09:44 AM perry_j1987: 240+ holes ugh
09:44 AM perry_j1987: fusion is telling me about an hour to make the whole thing
09:45 AM perry_j1987: but i WILL move past making things a couple at a time in this vise lol
09:51 AM roycroft: the thing i dreaded has occured - my time machine backup did not restore properly on my macbook pro
09:51 AM roycroft: i tried it twice, with two different backups
09:52 AM roycroft: in fact, when i tried restoring, time machine only showed me backups from the previous os release - the one that i made before sending the machine in for repair did not show up
09:52 AM roycroft: even though i verified it was complete before i sent the machine in
09:53 AM roycroft: so now i get to spend a couple days reinstalling/restoring everything manually
09:58 AM perry_j1987: not a bad thing
09:58 AM perry_j1987: ultra fresh OS install is nice once in a while
09:59 AM perry_j1987: gets rid of all those random homebrew things you installed and never used over the years heh
10:04 AM roycroft: i did a fresh install a year ago when i got my last mbp
10:04 AM roycroft: it was clean enough already
10:04 AM roycroft: but oh well
10:05 AM roycroft: i'm going to try to streamline the install for now
10:05 AM roycroft: just what i really need to get work done
10:05 AM roycroft: i have a job on-site on friday, and i need my laptop
10:58 AM roycroft: i just informed my boss that i have to get this laptop set up and everything else is on hold until that's done
10:58 AM roycroft: i think i can get most of the configuration done today
10:59 AM JT-Cave: 42°F Sunny and warming up to 54°F I think I'm going to ride my mountain bike for a while
10:59 AM roycroft: it's going to get up to 15 here today
11:00 AM roycroft: i'm having dinner with friends tonight - it should be fairly comfortable sitting at an outdoor table
11:01 AM roguish[m]: 36 earlier today. not 43. sunny, chilly
11:01 AM roguish[m]: just finished my morning 2 mile wal\k
11:13 AM JT-Shop: $64 question where is my bike stuff?
11:19 AM roycroft: where you left it last fall
11:19 AM roycroft: which is ancient history
11:38 AM Tom_L: it got moved to make room for a ridgeline i bet
12:02 PM blablinsky: Hello everyone, I have a MESA 7i95, connected with default IP of 192.168.1.121, mesaflash reports it ok. Linux CNC is now updated to 2.9 master, on Buster distro. In Pncconf wizard there is no 7i95 card. Is it correct? How to proceed with setup?
12:14 PM randy: is the mesacards till seen by mesaflash?
12:15 PM randy: also, you can try the autodiscovery feature in pnpconf, which is (AFAIR) running mesaflash with root privileges
12:16 PM blablinsky: Yes, I can ping it and mesaflash discovers it ok, will try the autodiscovery now...
12:18 PM Tom_L: any reason you need to run 2.9 master branch?
12:20 PM blablinsky: No, I thought I'll find 7i95 in dropdown menu on 2.9, I have a fresh install so can easily go back.
12:20 PM Tom_L: at times 2.9 could be broken since it's the developement version
12:21 PM Tom_L: probably won't affect pncconf either way
12:22 PM blablinsky: As there is no preset for the card in either version I'll surely stay with 2.8 for stability.
12:22 PM blablinsky: Where is autodiscovery?
12:22 PM Tom_L: i've never used the config tools
12:24 PM blablinsky: How do you setup the cards then?
12:24 PM Tom_L: manually
12:24 PM Tom_L: it should have a bit file loaded in it already
12:25 PM Tom_L: you can query it with mesaflash to see the configuration
12:25 PM Tom_L: takes a bit of reading and probably help from someone here if you've not done one
12:27 PM blablinsky: Seems good, is there any special manual or should I just go through the official docs?
12:27 PM Tom_L: it should all be in the docs somewhere
12:28 PM Tom_L: along with what mesaflash returns for pin configuration
12:29 PM blablinsky: Ok, so it boils down to writing several files with card data obtained from mesaflash querying and placing them in correct folder so LCNC can find them?
12:30 PM blablinsky: What files would that be? I could look for 7i96 setup and expand it.
12:34 PM pcw--home: Yes, a 7I96 hal/ini file set is probably the simplest current way to create a 7i95 config
12:37 PM blablinsky: Great, thanks!
12:55 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +vvv by strontium.libera.chat
01:14 PM * JT-Shop wonders how finished my 7i95 configuration tool is???
01:15 PM JT-Shop: any recommendations for a reese hitch bike carrier or what brands to stay away from
01:20 PM perry_j1987: JT-Shop check facebook marketplace for a good deal on things like that
01:24 PM roycroft: facebook anything is not a good place to look for anything
01:31 PM JT-Shop: perry_j1987, thanks for the suggestion but I don't go on facebook at all and I got distracted by my wife showing up with a car load of groceries so I didn't get a chance to finish typing
01:32 PM JT-Shop: I'm looking for design inspiration, not to purchase a commercial unit.
01:32 PM JT-Shop: or a used one
01:32 PM snakedGT is now known as snaked
01:32 PM * JT-Shop waves at snaked
01:32 PM * snaked waves at JT in the shop
01:33 PM snaked: You'll be pleased to know the birds are quite a bit warmer today. And I don't need a parka to run the router.
01:34 PM JT-Shop: pretty nice her too
01:40 PM unterhausen: how is a phone number written in the Uk?
01:41 PM perry_j1987: with numbers
01:41 PM perry_j1987: :)
01:42 PM unterhausen: tried that, not a valid phone number
01:42 PM unterhausen: then I put in dashes, still not valid
01:42 PM unterhausen: added country code, not valid
01:44 PM roycroft: what are you trying to do, exactly?
01:45 PM roycroft: there's nothing special about a uk phone number
01:45 PM roycroft: there are a lot of web forms that are very strict about how a phone number is entered, and my experience is that the more strict they are about the format, the less they tell you about what they expect
01:51 PM unterhausen: the website I'm trying to order from won't accept all normal forms of a U.S. phone number and won't let me order without one
01:54 PM unterhausen: they have it set up to fill in country codes to just about every country, so they are aware there are different formats
01:54 PM Alicrow-phone: Ugh. Seems any Meanwell power supply that can do 60V is out of stock everywhere.
01:55 PM roycroft: did you try +1.aaa.nnn.xxxx ?
01:56 PM Alicrow-phone: So I guess I have to either run my servos at a lower voltage (can probably get a power supply that can for 55V or so), or get a power supply AND a $280 dc-to-dc converter to bring it up to 60V.
01:56 PM unterhausen: yeah, that was my last try, they love those dots over there
01:56 PM roycroft: worst case, find the phone number for the uk vendor on their website, and enter that as your phone number
01:56 PM unterhausen: maybe commas
01:57 PM unterhausen: no joy with commas
01:57 PM unterhausen: I'll give the number for andypugh
01:57 PM roycroft: alicrow-phone: you can get 48v power supplies pretty cheap on ebay, and they can usually be turned up to about 54v
01:58 PM roycroft: start with those, and when the higher voltage ones are available, get them
01:58 PM roycroft: and save the 48v supplies as spares
01:58 PM unterhausen: a few volts isn't going to hurt. Is this for steppers?
01:58 PM roycroft: he said servos
01:58 PM unterhausen: same issue
01:58 PM roycroft: and i'm not sure how voltage works on servos
01:58 PM unterhausen: same as always, it won't go quite as fast
01:58 PM roycroft: but on steppers, lower voltage just means slower rapids
01:59 PM unterhausen: it has to overcome the back emf
01:59 PM roycroft: using lower voltage power supplies is not ideal, but it's better than having no power supplies
02:00 PM unterhausen: my servo amps can be run off of 240 or 120, it's really not critical
02:00 PM unterhausen: only problem is that the inrush on 120 is enough to pop the afci in my shop
02:01 PM Alicrow-phone: It's a shame, because Meanwell is actually coming out with a new line of dual purpose battery charger and power supplies, which can go up to 80 Volts, and 1200 or 1700 Watts, and the price is about on par for the wattage... But they're not available for another two months.
02:03 PM unterhausen: that sounds like a nice product, but it's not a surprise it's out of stock
02:04 PM unterhausen: are they switching?
02:04 PM roycroft: in the economy we're in now, the only time you can count on a product being available is when it's actually available
02:05 PM roycroft: the supply side issues are causing so many things to be late to market
02:06 PM roycroft: and even if meanwell are able to ship in two months, the product may end up sitting off the coast of los angeles for weeks or months before the containers can be offloaded, and then the containers may sit on the dock for weeks or months before it can be hauled to the warehouse
02:17 PM unterhausen: well the secret to the phone number was refreshing the webpage. Who would have thought?
02:17 PM unterhausen: roycroft, in your case the part may exist but be lost in the siberian artic
02:20 PM roycroft: most of the overseas stuff i get comes in through los angeles
02:24 PM ecraven- is now known as ecraven
02:25 PM unterhausen: but the package that was headed to Russia came from Florida, didn't it?
02:29 PM unterhausen: I saw that 240v circuits are supposed to be protected by gfci now. Could be a problem, have to figure out how to limit inrush
02:30 PM unterhausen: of course meanwell sells some inrush limiters
02:30 PM roycroft: i don't know what to believe any more, unterhausen
02:30 PM roycroft: FAKE TRACKING!
02:48 PM unterhausen: did you ever get the package?
02:49 PM roycroft: which one?
02:49 PM * roycroft cannot remember any more what showed up on time, what was defective, and what never arrived
02:50 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i made one a long time ago
02:50 PM Tom_L: iirc, one was a hitch and i think i made one to fit on the back of the camper
02:51 PM Tom_L: i just ordered the rubber straps and did the rest
02:52 PM Tom_L: iirc they were thule straps
02:52 PM Tom_L: https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/hitch-bike-racks
02:53 PM Tom_L: it may still be in the garage if you wanna come get it :)
02:57 PM roycroft: i have a thule rack for my car
02:57 PM roycroft: i love it
02:57 PM roycroft: and it's the same one i had on my previous car - when i got the new car i was able to order new mounting feet for it
02:57 PM roycroft: thule are expensive, but they're really good, and really flexible
02:59 PM roycroft: i can't install a hitch on my car, so i have to use a roof rack for my bike
02:59 PM roycroft: https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-proride-xt-_-598004
02:59 PM roycroft: that is the one i have, and it works great, other than having to lift the bike up onto the top of the car
03:00 PM roycroft: i have a little foldable step stool that i use to make that easier
03:07 PM Tom_L: hitch mount: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/thule/bikerack2.jpg
03:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/thule/bikerack1.jpg
03:08 PM Tom_L: i ordered those from thule as replacement parts
03:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/thule/bikerack3.jpg
03:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/thule/bikerack4.jpg
03:09 PM Tom_L: i also made a bracket to fit the camper but it went with the camper
03:09 PM Tom_L: i just happened to have the tubing
03:09 PM Tom_L: the round is 4130
03:09 PM roycroft: i must be mellowing in my old age
03:10 PM roycroft: i just got a "department of visa/mastercard" scam call
03:10 PM roycroft: and instead of telling the caller what i think of their scam, i just hung up the phone without saying a word
03:24 PM unterhausen: now that you mention scam calls, we haven't gotten an 888 area code call all day
03:43 PM roycroft: i was getting 8-10 spam/scam calls/day on my cell before switching carriers
03:44 PM roycroft: i average 1-2/day on my land line, and that number is holding pretty steady
03:45 PM roycroft: i especially like the ones from "microsoft support" telling me i have to connect to a website right now because they have detected a security problem with my windows, while i'm sitting in front of a mac not running windows at all
03:46 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, I'm leaning toward one with the tire loops due to the weird shape of the frames on both bikes
03:46 PM roycroft: my motion control components have shipped already
03:46 PM roycroft: allegedly
03:47 PM roycroft: which i have to say, because FAKE TRACKING!
03:48 PM XXCoder: this month I keep getting calls on my cell phone
03:49 PM XXCoder: I never answer any, because theres no legit way for anyone to know my cell phone number.
03:50 PM XXCoder: I have had my cell # for more than 10 years
03:50 PM roycroft: anti-vaxxers can relax a little
03:50 PM roycroft: because the former president said today that when he got vaccinated he has "had absolutely no reverberation"
03:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hey printing out the shipping label now counts as shipped
03:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just ask most sellers :)
03:51 PM roycroft: i'm sure a lot of the anti-vaxxers were really worried that they would start vibrating after getting the jab
03:51 PM roycroft: this particular shipment is actually marked as received by ups
03:51 PM XXCoder: vibration for pleasure
03:51 PM roycroft: but what did they receive?
03:52 PM roycroft: the usps followed up on the mail fraud case i filed with them, btw
03:52 PM roycroft: where the person allegedly shipped me a heavy cast iron lathe bed extension in an envelope that is limited to 12oz
03:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: but I agree, tracking info has become unreliable
03:53 PM roycroft: and from what i hear from them, the scam works pretty much as i thought
03:53 PM XXCoder: its been not the case for me
03:53 PM roycroft: i pay them the money for the expensive item
03:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just add water
03:53 PM XXCoder: every package I ordered tracked properly. I even sometimes get accurate hour of arrival
03:53 PM roycroft: they send a blank envelope with the least costly tracking method possible to a random address in my zip code
03:54 PM roycroft: they provide that as the tracking number, and when i file a claim for not receiving it, they use that tracking number as "proof" that it was delivered to me
03:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: consider yourself fortunate
03:54 PM roycroft: usps only provide the delivery zipcode in their tracking system, until it becomes a case of fraud
04:09 PM blablinsky: Hi, I have Mesa 7i95, where are the configuration files for Mesa ethernet cards located? I configured it as 7i96 in pncconf and changed the name in ~/linuxcnc/mymachine.ini to 7i95 and it displays some data in gmoccapy HAL tree, but where does it get it from?
04:10 PM blablinsky: There are two main files in home/linuxcnc mymachine.ini and mymachine.hal, but where is the config for CARD0, how to set it up?
04:11 PM JT-Shop: no clue about pncconf, my 7i95 configuration tool puts all the files in ~/linuxcnc/configs/name-of-config
04:12 PM JT-Shop: where they belong
04:13 PM blablinsky: Hello, I downloaded your tool, thanks
04:14 PM blablinsky: So all the files that are needed to configure everything are in home/linuxcnc?
04:15 PM _unreal_: what method are you using to control your setup?
04:15 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, ok. thule has some good stuff though...
04:15 PM _unreal_: parallel port, mesa card?
04:15 PM _unreal_: blablinsky,
04:15 PM blablinsky: Mesa 7i95
04:16 PM _unreal_: A: do you have a link to the card?
04:16 PM blablinsky: I have it correctly connected, mesaflash works ok
04:16 PM blablinsky: Yes
04:16 PM _unreal_: OK
04:17 PM _unreal_: there is a tool that you can use
04:17 PM _unreal_: its part of LCNC
04:17 PM _unreal_: you dont need to use any downloaded tools but by all means if needed
04:18 PM _unreal_: in the GUI under the "start menu" if you will there is the launch of lcnc, and the config setup tool. the name escapes me at the moment.
04:18 PM blablinsky: I used pncconf and chose 7i96 (there is no 7i95) to generate .ini and .hal files.
04:19 PM _unreal_: but if you start that up. you can go though and produce your config file to drive your machine.
04:19 PM _unreal_: ? do you have a 95 or a 96?
04:19 PM _unreal_: I have a 96
04:19 PM _unreal_: I've never heard of a 95
04:20 PM blablinsky: That's what I did, but for 7i96 card. It created the files, and I changed the name 7i96 to 7i95 in one file.
04:21 PM t4nk_freenode: _unreal_, https://postimg.cc/gallery/Yw9k8ZB
04:22 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, no bad but I would suggest leaving most of the metal. LESS tooling time. and you can use the remaining PCB as a ground plain
04:22 PM t4nk_freenode: not for this one
04:23 PM t4nk_freenode: maybe sometimes on a real circuit
04:23 PM t4nk_freenode: but not here
04:23 PM blablinsky: Is it enough for linux cnc to configure the card? Now in mymachine.ini in section [HMOT] there is a line : CARD0=hm2_7i95.0
04:24 PM _unreal_: did you add that or did it auto generate it?
04:24 PM t4nk_freenode: but uh.... I'd like to see you try to make this _unreal_ ... not a chance ;)
04:24 PM blablinsky: It auto generated 7i96, I change for 7i95
04:26 PM blablinsky: Where does linux cnc get the info about the card pins etc? Does it require any more config file with card data?
04:27 PM _unreal_: interesting 7i95 card is more expensive then the 96
04:27 PM _unreal_: if the pnconfig you can assign the pins
04:27 PM _unreal_: or using the other download utilities there are ways
04:27 PM _unreal_: you can also write your own scripts.ini's and hal's to do special functions with the I/O's of the card
04:28 PM _unreal_: I do not script
04:30 PM t4nk_freenode: you could have fooled me ;)
04:34 PM blablinsky: Correct me if I'm wrong, the line in mymachine.ini saying CARD0=hm_7i95.0 is enough for linux cnc to use this card?
04:35 PM blablinsky: Of course if the card is correcly connected.
04:35 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, is the better person to ask those questions
04:35 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, or pcw--home
04:37 PM blablinsky: And what is left to do is to tell linuxcnc what is connected to the pins and what how it is configured (in file mymachine.hal)
04:37 PM blablinsky: Thanks
04:39 PM blablinsky: I'll dig into the docs.
04:39 PM _unreal_: the basic setups are not hard
04:39 PM _unreal_: its just figuring out how to deal with them in pnconfig
04:40 PM JT-Shop: blablinsky, the configuration files are in ~/linuxcnc/configs/name-of-config
04:41 PM blablinsky: Yes, thanks, I thought there are some more card specific files.
04:42 PM JT-Shop: not for a 7i95
04:42 PM JT-Shop: the old 5i20 and such loaded the file at boot up
04:43 PM JT-Shop: the newer cards the firmware is flashed onto the card
04:43 PM blablinsky: So the line :CARD0=hm_7i95.0 is enough for linux cnc to use this card?
04:43 PM blablinsky: and then come all the configs what is at which pin?
04:44 PM JT-Shop: I have no clue what pncconf does but suspect it's using that in the hal file
04:44 PM blablinsky: But it takes the info about the pins directly from card and not from any card config file?
04:44 PM JT-Shop: you might try generating a configuration with my tool
04:45 PM JT-Shop: yes, the pins are in the card
04:45 PM blablinsky: I will for sure tomorrow morning :)
04:45 PM blablinsky: Thanks
04:45 PM JT-Shop: or the firmware to be exact
04:45 PM JT-Shop: if you need help using my tool let me know here
04:46 PM blablinsky: The thing I was trying to know is if it is required to create some config file for 7i95.
04:46 PM blablinsky: So pncconf would list it in it's dropdown
04:46 PM JT-Shop: you would have to ask Chris about that, I know nothing about pncconf
04:47 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/7i95
04:47 PM blablinsky: Yep, got it!
04:47 PM JT-Shop: that's my configuration tool for the 7i95
04:47 PM JT-Shop: great
04:48 PM blablinsky: Ok thanks a lot, I'll try it tomorrow and come up here with more fresh problems.
04:48 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:48 PM * JT-Shop gets back to making chicken furniture
05:24 PM miss0r: Am I still online here? :S
05:27 PM XXCoder: no
05:27 PM miss0r: Interresting. it seems my provider is unable to resolve NS requests. but here I am still connected. excellent.
05:27 PM miss0r: but I still have nothing realy working, even setting the DNS to google's
05:28 PM XXCoder: that sucks
05:35 PM miss0r: okay, so now I've forced the router to use the google ns - now it seems to work
05:35 PM miss0r: I'm starting to get realy tired of my provider. They are having alot of issues as of late
05:38 PM XXCoder: :( lots competitors or one only?
05:40 PM miss0r: I've found an alternative. but there are few 'round here as I am forced to use a 4G router to get some proper connection speed. My phone line is a joke
05:40 PM XXCoder: might be time to use certain spce sats connection
05:41 PM miss0r: and as it would happen, I've already(a week ago) ordered a new router from a competitor. Just waiting for it to arrive, and I will flip the old on the bird :]
05:41 PM miss0r: I guess, but that sounds expensive.
05:41 PM XXCoder: equipment is pretty expensive but one time
05:41 PM XXCoder: dunno how much monetly
05:42 PM miss0r: I Should look into that.
05:42 PM XXCoder: *monthly
05:43 PM * JT-Shop still waits for Starlink
05:44 PM miss0r: I've started the tidious task of organizing my electronic components. Bought 16 of those raaco drawer systems(with 40 drawers in each) and am cataloging everything in a spreadsheet and archiving away... Its a massive undertaking, but at this point I need to to it to keep track
05:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: years from now we will look back on waiting for our first install of Starlink 1.0
05:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: "was $100/mo and only got ~100mbs"
05:45 PM miss0r: hehe a man can dream, can't he?
05:45 PM XXCoder: it can be good, depending on where
05:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i pay $10,000/mo now and get 3Tbs on my tracking device
05:46 PM XXCoder: for me it'd not be great deal, since we have 120 usd for way faster
05:46 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], you pay $10k just so you can visit with us???
05:46 PM Tom_L: how touching
05:47 PM miss0r: I pay around $100/month for aprox 30mbit now, but the new provider gets me around 70mbit for the same price
05:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: for rural applications it really will make a difference
05:47 PM Tom_L: certainly better than hughes net :)
05:47 PM bjorkintosh: 10K??
05:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Hughes satellite is pretty slow and has a low cap/mo
05:48 PM Tom_L: it's probably one of the worst
05:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: bjorkintosh: yes, in the year 2073
05:48 PM bjorkintosh: AND you get to time travel too?
05:49 PM Tom_L: black hole
05:49 PM XXCoder: I would be 96 years old lol
05:49 PM Tom_L: younger than betty
05:49 PM Tom_L: you can make it!
05:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: bjorkintosh: yes, I use my Musk dollars
05:49 PM XXCoder: yeah as ashes!
05:50 PM Tom_L: my provider informed me we will be without in a couple days for an 'upgrade'
05:50 PM Tom_L: dunno how long that will last
05:51 PM JT-Shop: yeah hughes is the worst
05:51 PM Tom_L: heh jt sounds like he speaks from experience :)
05:52 PM JT-Shop: neighbor had it for a while and after getting huge bills for overage he dropped that for wild blue
05:54 PM Tom_L: did the cluckers adjust to their new bath?
05:55 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, stopped by Foxy and the second copy lathe is working as expected
05:55 PM Tom_L: awesome
05:55 PM JT-Shop: some actually got on it and walked around, I don't see any evidence of anyone taking a dust bath
05:56 PM JT-Shop: the owner is trying to get a few things repaired on the 3rd on as we were using it as a parts machine for 1 and 2
05:56 PM Tom_L: when i did that bike rack i couldn't get them to send me the rubber straps so i figured out what carrier used them and ordered replacement parts
05:56 PM Tom_L: is #3 next on the list?
05:57 PM JT-Shop: I'm going to need one the tires are in a cradle
05:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: there used to be a bunch of local terrestrial microwave ISP's
05:57 PM Tom_L: yeah i get that
05:57 PM JT-Shop: #3 then #4
05:57 PM Tom_L: roof mount?
05:57 PM Tom_L: or rear
05:57 PM JT-Shop: #4 runs in manual now so it's last
05:58 PM JT-Shop: bike rack? reese hitch mount
05:58 PM Tom_L: yes
05:59 PM Tom_L: https://www.reese-hitches.com/products/XC_2__Hitch_Mount_2_Bike_Rack,S-64650
05:59 PM JT-Shop: I've made a no rattle tailgate extension in the past... quite simple if you have ever taken a bicycle apart
05:59 PM Tom_L: your wheels have a quick release?
06:00 PM JT-Shop: aye something like that, some I've seen have fold up support for the wheels
06:00 PM JT-Shop: aye
06:00 PM Tom_L: i've got an ancient alum frame i seldom ride now
06:00 PM jdh: https://www.1up-usa.com/product/2in-heavy-duty-double-bike-rack/
06:00 PM Tom_L: got it from a friend that wanted to up grade
06:01 PM JT-Shop: I ride the mountain bike more than the road bike
06:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/bike.jpg
06:01 PM Tom_L: pretty old but very light
06:02 PM JT-Shop: aye it's amazing how much lighter a road bike is than a mountain bike
06:02 PM JT-Shop: wow you have shocks on a road bike
06:02 PM Tom_L: :)
06:03 PM Tom_L: i have the original fork but he replaced it before i got it
06:04 PM Tom_L: need some copper clad?
06:04 PM Tom_L: that stack behind it is all pcb material
06:04 PM JT-Shop: https://www.cargogear.com/bigCats/inh110CAT.jpg
06:04 PM JT-Shop: dang that's a bunch of copper clad
06:04 PM Tom_L: looks easy enough
06:04 PM JT-Shop: aye
06:04 PM Tom_L: i have a couple full sheets in the basement
06:05 PM JT-Shop: what is a full sheet?
06:05 PM Tom_L: well i cut them in half but 6 x 3'
06:05 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/etching/Copper3.jpg
06:06 PM JT-Shop: dang that's a big sheet
06:07 PM JT-Shop: double sided?
06:08 PM Tom_L: yes
06:09 PM Tom_L: half sheet.. i had to store it somewhere
06:09 PM Tom_L: got a handfull of those
06:09 PM JT-Shop: understand that
06:09 PM bobbytab1es is now known as bobbytables
06:10 PM Tom_L: we carried home 2 pickups full and that's what i kept
06:10 PM JT-Shop: damn
06:10 PM Tom_L: board house closed and were clearing out
06:11 PM Tom_L: that was back when i was doing more with electronics
06:12 PM Tom_L: oh, you can also see the heaters i have out there
06:12 PM Tom_L: just run the pilot when it's freezing
06:13 PM JT-Shop: I have a similar heater in the garage for when it's really cold and the wood stove can't heat both the garage and machine shop
06:13 PM JT-Shop: the backup heater in the big shop is a bit different
06:13 PM Tom_L: one on each side but i seldom use both
06:13 PM Tom_L: and one in the basement with a thermostat on it
06:14 PM JT-Shop: to keep it dry?
06:14 PM Tom_L: the other 2 are either on or off but 3 burners
06:14 PM Tom_L: in the basement?
06:14 PM JT-Shop: aye
06:14 PM Tom_L: just for emergencies
06:14 PM JT-Shop: makes sense
06:14 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside for some chow
06:16 PM JT-Shop: looks like I got my SS raise to offset the crazy prices of drugs...
06:16 PM JT-Shop: see you in the AM
06:17 PM Tom_L: later
06:17 PM Tom_L: scammers have started calling me about that lately
06:19 PM unterhausen: scammers never leave a message and I never answer, so I have no idea what they are calling about
06:20 PM unterhausen: I called a client's number and he got rid of his land line
06:20 PM unterhausen: right now our "land line" (it's a cellphone) is not working because they sent us new equipment without external antennas
06:21 PM unterhausen: I don't want it anyway, easy fix is to not get an antenna for it
06:29 PM CloudEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhJRzQsLZGg Commissioning is fun. SpaceX sleweing around 200 ton bags of water
06:30 PM CloudEvil: They're at the 'slow movements on all axes to make sure we diddn't fuck up' stage.
06:30 PM CloudEvil: Before turning the motors up to 5MW.
06:34 PM roguish[m]: been paying into that for over 50 years.
06:47 PM _unreal_: ve7it, when you power up the board. the green light should light up for what .5-1 second? then just turns off right?
06:47 PM _unreal_: I just got the power SEMI sorted out
06:48 PM _unreal_: I'm still having relay issues. it wont stay on just keeps CLICKING so I hard wired the power. Not what I want to do but right now I dont have a choice.
06:48 PM _unreal_: I dont know what is causing the rapid fire clicking of the relay rather then just clicking on and holding
06:49 PM _unreal_: ve7it, right now I'm trying to figure out a way to pull up a serial terminal
06:50 PM _unreal_: my fiberglass shell system may work but I believe its setup as an RPI gaming system? cant remember if it has a gui setup or not NOR do I know if I remember the password
06:50 PM _unreal_: sigh
06:53 PM _unreal_: sweet its got GUI
06:53 PM _unreal_: what a good serial terminal to use for accessing a serial coms?
06:53 PM _unreal_: on linux
07:02 PM flyback: ve7it, BMCC
07:03 PM flyback: _unreal_, oh on linux dunno
07:04 PM flyback: I highly recommend realterm but it's for windows
07:04 PM flyback: worth it though
07:04 PM roycroft: kermit works fine
07:04 PM flyback: I think 3.x branch runs in wine but I couldn't get the com port mapping working
07:04 PM flyback: kermit doesn't have advanced loggging, scripting, etc
07:04 PM flyback: octal, bin, hex, etc support
07:05 PM _unreal_: I need to access the serial terminal of the motor controllers.
07:05 PM roycroft: but there are other unix tools that can do all of that for you
07:05 PM roycroft: and i don't think _unreal_ needs that kind of stuff
07:05 PM flyback: nothing matches realterm but you are correct he might not need realterm level
07:05 PM roycroft: there's always cu
07:06 PM roycroft: which has been talking to serial ports since the 1970s
07:06 PM _unreal_: I just have not run an active LINUX machine in for ever
07:06 PM _unreal_: so I'm forgetting
07:06 PM _unreal_: when ever I get to getting the photos off of the "one drive" on this laptop I was given. which requires me to go to my elderly neighbotrs house. and her to find the password
07:06 PM _unreal_: I can then get the last of her late husbands photos off of the computer. then its MINE to do what I want with.
07:06 PM flyback: if you are curious
07:06 PM flyback: https://realterm.sourceforge.io/
07:07 PM _unreal_: which will be a clean install of windows and clean install of linux
07:07 PM flyback: REALTERM OWNS YOUR "CANUCK"
07:07 PM * flyback DROPKICKS ve7it
07:08 PM _unreal_: minicom thats the one I use to use
07:08 PM flyback: that works ok for very standard serial coms but it fucks up a lot
07:08 PM flyback: if the connection isn't right
07:09 PM roycroft: i use a utility aptly named Serial.app on my macs
07:09 PM roycroft: with a keyspan usb to rs232 adapter
07:09 PM roycroft: i still have an almost brand new dec vt320
07:09 PM roycroft: which i'm going to put up for sale soon, i think
07:10 PM roycroft: collectors pay hundreds of dollars for those things now
07:10 PM roycroft: if they are in good shape
07:11 PM flyback: nice
07:12 PM * flyback has a old decmate III, apple IIC, and pcjr he is getting rid of
07:12 PM roycroft: i'm not much into old hardware these days
07:12 PM flyback: me either
07:13 PM flyback: I been payin $70/month for 2-3 yrs now storing this stuff
07:13 PM roycroft: if i ran across an ann arbor ambassador in good shape i might get it
07:13 PM flyback: im done
07:13 PM flyback: I turn 48 in 2 months
07:13 PM roycroft: that's kind of where i landed
07:13 PM flyback: I imght keep a few things to make a old dos box
07:13 PM flyback: but that's about all I want
07:13 PM roycroft: it was costing me too much money to store the old stuff, and it was losing value
07:13 PM roycroft: so i cleaned house
07:14 PM roycroft: i do have an old 386 that runs dos 6
07:14 PM roycroft: i keep that because i have an eeprom burner that requires dos 6 and an isa bus slot
07:14 PM * flyback has like 30 laptops in storage most are too old to run xp even
07:14 PM flyback: getting rid of them
07:14 PM roycroft: but i haven't burned an eeprom in years, so i wonder why i bother keeping that any more
07:14 PM flyback: no keep the burner
07:14 PM roycroft: i'm good on that stuff
07:14 PM flyback: that's still useful
07:15 PM roycroft: i have some apps that i need to run
07:15 PM roycroft: but i have windows from xp through 10 installed in virtual machines
07:15 PM * flyback made a eeprom burner from a old dvd-rom drive abusing firmware recovery mode
07:15 PM roycroft: so i can run any of that old stuff
07:15 PM roycroft: without having to dedicate a machine to it
07:15 PM flyback: I can do 5v or 3.3 parallel nor flash up to 512KB
07:15 PM roycroft: anyway, time for my dinner engagement
07:15 PM flyback: only thing I can't do is the old 5v with 12v to program but you can subsitute 5v only parts for stuff
07:16 PM flyback: it's a pain in the ass to use though
07:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: unterhausen: did you ever get the DOS app for Yaskawa drives working?
08:03 PM * Tom_L agrees about realterm
08:06 PM Tom_L: i used it on a couple old cncs that were kindof finiky running at 4800 baud i had to introduce pauses and delays between characters so it wouldn't error out
08:51 PM unterhausen: CaptHindsight[m] I haven't had the opportunity to try those programs yet
08:51 PM unterhausen: household construction projects
09:08 PM Tom_L: always fun
11:58 PM roycroft: ronnie spector has passed
