05:15 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:26 AM Tom_L: 28F
06:47 AM JT-Cave: 27°F
06:50 AM CloudEvil: It F.
10:08 AM roguish[m]: 49 F here. still damp, foggy. rain getting close tomorrow, and coming weekend.
10:11 AM roycroft: my spindle mount is officially lost
10:11 AM roycroft: a replacement will be dispatched shortly
10:12 AM roycroft: oh well, i have other projects to work on
10:21 AM roguish[m]: received the new fuel line inertial cutout switch for my truck. going out to install it.....
10:26 AM roycroft: grr, the mag switch for my bandsaw is also missing
10:27 AM roycroft: it was due to be delivered yesterday
10:27 AM roycroft: as in marked out for delivery
10:27 AM roycroft: now it's marked "unknown"
10:46 AM roguish[m]: done. easy peasy
10:53 AM roycroft: must be an old truck
10:58 AM roguish[m]: '98
11:23 AM Loetmichel: *snicker* My Co-worker is a real BMW driver. Just got my Convertible back from the mechanic... Coworker drove the BMW 8k through the city from the mechanic to the car rental center behind me in the rental... I havent seen him using the indicators ONCE. ;)
12:14 PM enleth: Loetmichel: I thought it's just people in Poland driving BMWs like complete assholes due to some kind of inferiority syndrome
12:15 PM enleth: (that brand is very strongly associated here with cringy tuning, shitty aggressive drivers and loud beat music playing through open windows)
12:18 PM enleth: with the "BMW" abbreviation conveniently fitting phrases (in Polish) such as "You'll Have an Accident", "Very Little Imagination" or "Very Small Peepee"
12:25 PM Loetmichel: enleth: in german its "Bring Mich Werkstatt!" or "Bei Mercedes Weggeworfen"
12:25 PM Loetmichel: and yes, the agressive driving is a stereotype here, too
12:26 PM Loetmichel: to be honest: it IS inducing higher speeds. because of the good handling i suppose
12:26 PM Loetmichel: even in the "underpowered" 318ci i drive
12:26 PM Loetmichel: was even more so in my 525i station wagon
12:27 PM Loetmichel: (less underpowered)
02:29 PM yaqwsx7 is now known as yaqwsx
02:38 PM snakedGT is now known as snaked
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/tls/d/des-plaines-gorton-i22-knee-mill-r8/7417449894.html
03:15 PM * JT-Shop wonders what he can do with 3 quarts of 2 cycle racing oil?
03:16 PM Tom_L: fuel oil or lube oil?
03:16 PM Tom_L: use it in your chainsaw
03:19 PM Tom_L: which makes me wonder if my old Mcculloch would start. it's been sitting several years
03:23 PM JT-Shop: I only put Stihl synthetic oil in the chain saws :)
03:24 PM JT-Shop: I think I have a few quarts of chain saw oil too :{
03:25 PM JT-Shop: note to self, Allen Bradley 800T push to test buttons do NOT have 120vac bulbs!
03:25 PM Tom_L: same here
03:25 PM Tom_L: but i do have that old mac, it's a real horse
03:26 PM Tom_L: i get both oils for them by the gallon
03:27 PM JT-Shop: I really needed a bigger old power head when I was using the Alaska saw mill
03:27 PM Tom_L: i think i have a 28" bar for the mac
03:27 PM Tom_L: i keep the shorter one mounted on it
03:32 PM JT-Shop: must be a good sized engine
03:33 PM Tom_L: it's old and heavy
03:34 PM Tom_L: i have a stihl with a 10" bar i used for climbing but i don't do much of that anymore
03:34 PM Tom_L: i like that one because it's light
03:39 PM JT-Shop: I have a Stihl 021 with a 14" bar for limb work after the tree is on the ground
03:40 PM JT-Shop: I cut a bunch of big trees with it before I built the house
03:40 PM Tom_L: i use their pole saw for most things around here now
03:42 PM JT-Shop: I have a Stihl HT 103 pole saw and have the harness which make trimming a tree as easy as it can be
03:42 PM Tom_L: looks like mine
03:44 PM Tom_L: the strap helps yes
03:51 PM JT-Shop: I liked it better than the next one down because it telescopes so shorter when stored
04:04 PM JT-Shop: all I need to do tomorrow "I think" is to trace down 4 wires from a couple of limit switches and I'm ready to test the copy lathe
04:33 PM JT-Shop: damn I found the shop scissors!
04:34 PM roguish[m]: right where ya left 'em
04:34 PM JT-Shop: and in the proper drawer!
04:35 PM JT-Shop: I think a Garden Gnome took them for a while then put them under a bunch of crap so I couldn't find them
04:35 PM * JT-Shop keeps cleaning until he finds a shop
04:36 PM roguish[m]: i''m working on my home automation motion sensors today............got a few more hooked up.
04:44 PM JT-Shop: for lights or security?
05:27 PM roguish[m]: back. had to chauffeur a neighbor.
05:30 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: both actually. in the garage i sometimes brain fade and leave the lights on overnight. so the motion sensors also detect light/dark. it'll tell me i've left the lights on. I have a sensor on the main garage door too. my system will yell at me if it's open after 8:00 pm..... 'hey dumb ass, the garage door is open' yeah, it talks.
05:30 PM roguish[m]: www.homeseer.com
05:31 PM roguish[m]: i've been playing with it for over 15 years.....
05:32 PM JT-Shop: one of the plants I work in all the lights are led and motion activated so they turn off by themselves
05:33 PM roguish[m]: that's pretty common these days. might actually be required out here.....
05:34 PM JT-Shop: looks like the hub is just a Rpi
05:35 PM roguish[m]: yes. can be. used to be totally windows. but the recent main upgrade now includes linux. aimed towards the Pi.
05:35 PM roguish[m]: very powerful. but also very extensive. quite a few free and paid plugins. and lots of scripting of all kinds.
05:36 PM JT-Shop: what is used to communicate between devices?
05:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: some places convert to LED lighting but don't use the motion sensors since that would mean spending more money on parts
05:36 PM JT-Shop: vs spending less money on electricity?
05:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yes
05:37 PM roguish[m]: yes. lots of protocols. z-wave, zigbee, X-10 (very old), wifi......
05:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: some people cut off their nose to spite their face
05:37 PM JT-Shop: x-10 I've heard of but not the z stuff, is it all over the mains?
05:38 PM JT-Shop: except for wifi of course
05:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: don't understand how if they spend more NOW, they will save more in the future/over time
05:38 PM roguish[m]: no, only the x-10. everyghing else is wireless.
05:39 PM JT-Shop: blue tooth? or all wifi?
05:39 PM roguish[m]: pretty much all of 'em.
05:39 PM roguish[m]: z-wave and zigbee are proprietary wireless.
05:40 PM JT-Shop: CaptHindsight[m], it was a very short payback for one factory to change all the high bay's to motion led's
05:40 PM roguish[m]: https://www.z-wave.com/
05:40 PM JT-Shop: ah so those two only talk to their stuff
05:41 PM roguish[m]: yes. but the homeseer system integrates all of it. mix and match.
05:42 PM roguish[m]: the z-wave is pretty interesting. a mesh network, where every device is a sender and receiver.
05:42 PM JT-Shop: interesting, usually there is a master and a slave(s)
05:44 PM JT-Shop: chickens are all tucked in for the night... when Pink Floyd is done time to stir the chicken soup
05:51 PM Tom_L: just don't tell the chickens
05:51 PM JT-Shop: well they eat chicken too...
05:51 PM JT-Shop: eggs anyway
05:51 PM JT-Shop: say goodnight Gracie
06:32 PM _unreal_: well time to take my daughter to the lights show
06:32 PM _unreal_: its a drive through thing here in florida
11:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.reddit.com/r/Machinists/comments/r79fly/well_then/
11:05 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight[m]: cringy memories for me
11:05 PM XXCoder: once spun my C indictor holder with expensive dial test indictor
11:05 PM XXCoder: it was so damn lucky it didnt break or fly off.
11:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I've only destroyed touch probes
11:06 PM * roycroft just ordered a spindle and vfd for his router
11:06 PM XXCoder: I had to twist holder REALLY hard to get it to loosen
11:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: usually by getting an indication and then backing off the WRONG direction
11:12 PM XXCoder: capt old job, guy broke one simply by failing to insert it into holder properly
11:12 PM XXCoder: it fell down and broke tip
11:12 PM XXCoder: rather than fix it, they just threw it away? i think someone grabbed it for own sho
11:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the touch probes that light up do tend to bend pretty far
11:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: useless once they do
11:16 PM XXCoder: robodrill machines is bit odd where you cannot insert tools directly into spindle
11:16 PM XXCoder: you have to insert it into holder
11:16 PM XXCoder: then change tool to it
11:17 PM XXCoder: robo is pretty good, though once a while they need to do some maintance
