12:49 AM sadara_ is now known as sadara
02:21 AM Deejay: moin
05:03 AM Tom_L: morning
05:48 AM JT-Cave: morning
08:00 AM Loetmichel: *hehe* Sometimes i am literally a bit "thick skinned", am i not? Just brought my wife some clothes and stuff to the hospital. Had to walk about 1000m from the parking lot to the main entrance. Got more than a few disbelieving looks... Wife comes out, shakes her head... $me:"What?" She:"Michel, its 3,6°C outside, its drizzing, you are wearing a tshirt and jeans and your head is steaming.
08:00 AM Loetmichel: Why did I even bother to buy you a few Hoodies?" *uuups* :)
08:59 AM Tom_L: Loetmichel, are you one of those that jumps in the lake in the dead of winter too?
09:00 AM Loetmichel: If i werent so lazy i probably would.
09:00 AM Loetmichel: :)
09:00 AM Loetmichel: @Tom_L
09:00 AM Tom_L: hah
09:01 AM Loetmichel: as i just told my wife: "If i am feeling could you can guarantee that i am seriously ill."
09:12 AM d2inventory: Loetmichel: I know this feeling :D So many people ask "aren't you cold?". Cold is gooood, EMBRACE THE COLD! But soon barefoot season is over, no fun if it's this cold and wet :D
09:14 AM Loetmichel: i hear ya, d2inventory
10:32 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:47 AM roycroft: there's frost in many parts of town again this morning, but it still hasn't quite gotten down to freezing where i live
11:23 AM _unreal_: ARG...
11:47 AM d2inventory: ENTINA?
11:51 AM _unreal_: ?
11:59 AM _unreal_: SUP
12:54 PM unterhaus: I know I'm easily amused, but watching lcnc get incorporated into debian is weirdly entertaining
01:02 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight[m]: You around?
01:04 PM silopolis[m]: <unterhaus> "I know I'm easily amused, but..." <- Well, at least that was an unexpected benefit
02:10 PM _unreal_: ve7it, got a few more sat's I may get my hands on...
02:11 PM _unreal_: if I do and they have the right parts I'll have the final encoder BLDC motors I want...
02:13 PM * t4nk_freenode calls the florida coast guard to report a container robbery
02:16 PM ve7it: _unreal_, cool, wish I was closer....
02:16 PM _unreal_: What I'm looking at is wanting to generate a hybrid of your servo control setup. with the BLDC contoller
02:16 PM _unreal_: but....
02:17 PM _unreal_: the bldc controller I sent you is very limited on its FEEDBACK setup
02:18 PM _unreal_: only one motor controller takes 3 hall inputs the other two take only RPM level HALL input meaning 1 out of the 3 hall sensors per motor
02:20 PM _unreal_: so I'm looking at re-designing the motor controller as per its original design but adding the missing hall inputs to the other two motor controllers
02:20 PM _unreal_: but I'd love to work with in in the future to generate a hybrid setup
02:21 PM _unreal_: work with you
02:35 PM t4nk_freenode: fitty-fitty partners!
02:35 PM _unreal_: t4nk_freenode, I already mailed him an entire KIT of BLDC motors
02:36 PM _unreal_: like $500 value
02:36 PM _unreal_: with motor controllers and a second set of CHIPS from a slightly broken PCB so I just desoldered em
02:36 PM _unreal_: he's got a video posted somewhere showing them working
02:37 PM _unreal_: VERY powerful very fast
02:40 PM t4nk_freenode: you scared him! hehe
02:42 PM _unreal_: clearly
02:46 PM t4nk_freenode: bleh, I still got my wiring unfinished
03:03 PM roycroft: i still have some wiring to do today as well
03:03 PM roycroft: i'm working on my band saw stand at the moment - once i start painting it i'll work on my mill stand in between coats of pait
03:03 PM XXCoder: some people actually stole container?
03:03 PM roycroft: paint
05:12 PM roycroft: well, the first coat of primer is done, so i can work on my mill now
05:12 PM roycroft: it would be nice to have it running by the end of the day today
05:46 PM Tom_L: roycroft, that is quickly approaching
05:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: miss0r: I'm still not here
05:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: miss0r: !join irc.libera.chat ##electronics
05:55 PM Tom_L: capn, are they as crazy in there as they used to be?
06:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: don't know, this is the first peek in months
06:00 PM XXCoder: crazy in what way?
06:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: quiet as a mouse now
06:01 PM XXCoder: ah crazy quiet it is then ;)
06:01 PM roycroft: i have a few hours yet, tom_l
06:03 PM Tom_L: they used to touch on electronics once in a while if you were lucky
06:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'd say it became another channel like reprap, less intellectual discussion and more general malaise
06:48 PM _unreal_: quiet again.
06:49 PM Tom_L: was
06:49 PM t4nk_freenode: ssssssssssssstttttt! I was just immersed in a state of intellectualism :|
06:50 PM Tom_L: t4nk_freenode, you should change your nick to t4nk_libera
06:50 PM t4nk_freenode: nah, I'm a free node, that's all
06:51 PM t4nk_freenode: in the matrix
06:51 PM _unreal_: buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz
06:52 PM * Tom_L swats the bee
06:54 PM _unreal_: god I can almost taste it... hoping I get my grubby hands on the 4 sat's this week
06:54 PM _unreal_: :S
06:54 PM _unreal_: If I scrap everything its like $300 in aluminum
06:54 PM _unreal_: and if the bldc servos are good I'll have the final parts I need
06:54 PM Tom_L: don't be takin new sats off boats now ya hear!
06:55 PM _unreal_: they toss them
06:55 PM _unreal_: its crazy
06:55 PM _unreal_: those BIG ass domes with like 14-70" sat's
06:55 PM _unreal_: the big one's can be $70k EACH
06:55 PM _unreal_: new
06:56 PM _unreal_: but once they fail. its cheaper to buy a new one then to fix them.
06:56 PM _unreal_: typically the only thing that ever gets repaired is the servos get replaced. only because they are easy.
06:56 PM _unreal_: but beyond that. everything is locktighted together.
06:57 PM _unreal_: hard to take and if the balance is changed it has to be re-calibrated and other issues.
06:57 PM _unreal_: so they just trash them
06:57 PM _unreal_: the BLDC with an encoder goes for $500 new
06:58 PM _unreal_: What I'm thinking about is making a high speed 3d printer
07:04 PM unterhaus: the drive manual I want is only on scribd
07:05 PM unterhaus: not giving them my paypal for a 30 day free trial, sorry
07:09 PM roycroft: well, the motor is wired up, and that's probably the hardest part of the wiring harnass, because the routing is a little funky
07:10 PM roycroft: the mains should not take long, and the 24v ps should not take long, so there's still a chance i can get it done today
07:27 PM t4nk_freenode: ... I still haven´ t done anything about my wiring ;)
07:27 PM t4nk_freenode: but I guess I should do a bit.
07:27 PM _unreal_: and whos fault is that
07:27 PM t4nk_freenode: yours, _unreal_, as usual?
07:28 PM * t4nk_freenode takes out his soldering iron
07:29 PM t4nk_freenode: I need to make some kind of soldering aid too
07:29 PM t4nk_freenode: would be handy at least
07:32 PM t4nk_freenode: and I got all, but decent light
07:42 PM _unreal_: soldering aid?
07:42 PM _unreal_: I'm still waiting to see you make a PCB with your cnc
07:42 PM _unreal_: get some of those .5mm bits I linked you to some time ago
07:44 PM t4nk_freenode: euh
07:44 PM t4nk_freenode: yes, I'm close to making a pcb of sorts I think
07:44 PM _unreal_: I make my PCB's in KIcad, export to flatCAM, convert to gcode
07:45 PM t4nk_freenode: I got .5mm bits
07:45 PM _unreal_: bunch of tricks to using flatcam though
07:45 PM _unreal_: ve7it, if his website is up. he has a gcode file to make the PCB for his servo controller
07:45 PM _unreal_: DIY stile
07:45 PM _unreal_: style
07:45 PM t4nk_freenode: I've been experimenting with printing fan blades .. to cool the drivers ;)
07:46 PM _unreal_: why... PC fan done
07:46 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, sure
07:46 PM _unreal_: omg this flyer guy is annoying
07:46 PM t4nk_freenode: buy a complete set, done
07:47 PM t4nk_freenode: but I like to do it myself.
07:48 PM Tom_L: and complain nothing gets done?
07:48 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, last week I came across an amazing case
07:48 PM _unreal_: if I could have ONLY gotten it off the thing it was stuck too
07:48 PM t4nk_freenode: *sigh*.. I'm at it right now, Tom_L ;)
07:48 PM Tom_L: you told me
07:49 PM Tom_L: by the dumpster
07:49 PM _unreal_: but by the time I got back the entire dumpster and the thing it was in sitting next to it... OMG.... it was wonderful
07:49 PM _unreal_: sigh.
07:49 PM Tom_L: t4nk_freenode, you make your own boards?
07:49 PM Tom_L: smt?
07:50 PM _unreal_: I do
07:50 PM Tom_L: i did for a while
07:50 PM _unreal_: OMG. please ban that flyer guy
07:50 PM _unreal_: till he show's up
07:51 PM _unreal_: I prefer to just buy stuff these days unless I have to make it custom
07:52 PM _unreal_: not worth the effort
07:52 PM Tom_L: been quite a while since i did a board but i've done plenty
07:52 PM _unreal_: I prefer to mill the boards. but if I have to etch one. I do the ziplock bag trick
07:52 PM _unreal_: etched in 5-10min
07:53 PM Tom_L: i just used a bubble tank when i did my own
07:53 PM _unreal_: I have a bubble tank. collected dust the day I learned the zip lock trick
07:55 PM _unreal_: more or less. two ziplock bags. one inside the other. Out side one is "safety" put the PCB into it. add just enough FCL to cover the entire board surface. Often less then an ONCE.
07:55 PM _unreal_: ounce
07:55 PM _unreal_: then just kneed the bag gently.
07:56 PM _unreal_: once etched. pull out the part with plyers. rinse and zip up the bag again. good for a few more uses. Much faster then a bubbler also.
07:57 PM _unreal_: Flyer007, WAKE UP stock log/quit flooding
08:10 PM t4nk_freenode: it would be my first milled pcb, Tom_L ...
08:11 PM t4nk_freenode: but things are very messy here, wires and breadboards ... I need to start making some kind of board
08:12 PM t4nk_freenode: the drag chains look like a decent step in the right direction
08:13 PM Tom_L: printed or purchased?
08:14 PM Tom_L: i got mine online for the mill
08:14 PM t4nk_freenode: printed
08:14 PM t4nk_freenode: I hate wasting filament on larger prints, but it was quite doable here
08:15 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Wiring/X_Dragchain_Bottom.jpg
08:15 PM t4nk_freenode: perhaps cost me 1,50
08:16 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Wiring/Y_Dragchain_Bottom.jpg
08:16 PM t4nk_freenode: I got 2cms wide I believe
08:16 PM Tom_L: used larger on the Z for the spindle wiring
08:20 PM Tom_L: pretty small
08:55 PM t4nk_freenode: https://postimg.cc/d7kMBc0L
08:59 PM Tom_L: looks good
08:59 PM Tom_L: no shielding on the wires?
09:00 PM t4nk_freenode: nah... it's all flimflam'ed together ;)
09:00 PM t4nk_freenode: but it works
09:00 PM Tom_L: for now
09:00 PM Tom_L: my cabinet looks like crap but it works great
09:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Control2.jpg
09:02 PM Tom_L: all documented
09:02 PM t4nk_freenode: I'd like to get this into a nice state, pcb, cooling, .. and then make something better
09:02 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, lol.. I made myself a pdf yesterday, documenting
09:03 PM t4nk_freenode: that's not a great hobby of mine, but I guess it had to be done
09:03 PM Tom_L: mine is in table form, not a wiring chart
09:03 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL_SHOP_2.8.2/New_Mill_IO_Pinout.pdf
09:04 PM Tom_L: all wire colors etc
09:05 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah, that's nice
09:17 PM Tom_L: easy to edit
09:20 PM roycroft: well, i finished the wiring, but something is amiss
09:20 PM roycroft: no blue smoke, but also no power to the vfd
09:21 PM roycroft: it's probably a quick fix, but it's too late to diagnose tonight
09:24 PM Tom_L: the night is still young
09:27 PM roycroft: i'm done for the day
09:28 PM roycroft: and i'm quite happy with my progress for the day
09:28 PM roycroft: and a couple hours ago you were exclaiming that the day is almost over :)
09:30 PM Tom_L: but now it's considered night :)
09:31 PM roycroft: well i can probably fix the problem in 10 minutes or so, but i'm done for the day
09:31 PM Tom_L: it would bug me not to know
09:32 PM t4nk_freenode: yeah
09:32 PM roycroft: even if i invested that 10 minutes, it would not gain me anything sigificant - there's no way i'm going to start a job tonight
09:32 PM t4nk_freenode: I'd lose some sleep over it!
09:32 PM roycroft: it will bug me when it's time to bug me :)
09:33 PM roycroft: i'll probably have it working tomorrow, but i may have a meeting right after work and if so, i may not get back to the shop
09:34 PM roycroft: what's more concerning is how slowly paint is drying, even though i had the heat on in the shop
09:35 PM Tom_L: humid?
09:35 PM roycroft: i wanted to get two coats of primer on today, and then the first coat of finish
09:35 PM roycroft: cold and high humidity
09:35 PM roycroft: the second coat of primer is just now dry enough to sand
09:36 PM roycroft: it is time to shift to winter mode regarding shop projects
10:15 PM _unreal_: roycroft, if you have a 100watt incandescent bulb or two in the right housing. you can direct plenty of HEAT onto the paint to help it dry much faster
10:15 PM roycroft: i'm not in a hurry
10:16 PM roycroft: and i'm not sure i have any incandescent light bulbs anyway
10:18 PM _unreal_: better finish as well
10:22 PM t4nk_freenode: there... I'm back up and running, just tested the chains for the first time
10:22 PM t4nk_freenode: it's sweet ;)
10:22 PM _unreal_: big difference having a drag chain huh
10:23 PM t4nk_freenode: it looks a lot nicer
10:23 PM t4nk_freenode: and I was finally able to get rid of the lamp I used to hang the wires from
10:24 PM Tom_L: so now you got a lamp to see for soldering :)
10:24 PM t4nk_freenode: lol
10:24 PM _unreal_: ?
10:24 PM _unreal_: I have a lamp mounted on my z
10:27 PM t4nk_freenode: I use this smartphone as a microscope for soldering.. on a little tripod from Hell
10:27 PM t4nk_freenode: keeps falling over
10:31 PM t4nk_freenode: so I want to make some sort of base to mount everything
10:31 PM t4nk_freenode: my phone, adjustable of course
10:31 PM t4nk_freenode: some clamps
10:33 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/scope/scope1.jpg
10:33 PM Tom_L: get you one of those
10:35 PM t4nk_freenode: I'd love to.
10:36 PM Tom_L: amscope
11:13 PM snaked is now known as snakedLX
