01:01 AM enleth: t4nk_freenode: you sure those aren't mm/s^2 if you're looking at acceleration settings?
01:08 AM t4nk_freenode: no I'm not, enleth
01:08 AM t4nk_freenode: I'm sure they are mm/s² when I'm looking at acceleration ;)
01:08 AM t4nk_freenode: but youknow.. in grbl it was mm/min, and so I used that in freecad too
01:11 AM t4nk_freenode: it was so kewl to mill the other parts of my machine.. to have it work, and also to see the improvement over cutting and drilling all the holes by hand
01:12 AM t4nk_freenode: ... they were all precisely marked, but I drilled them all crooked
01:12 AM t4nk_freenode: hehe

04:31 AM Tom_L: morning
05:11 AM Loetmichel: hehe, just nodified a wooden shipping box to fit a new device... Funny that an "aluminium" blade on the circular saw can cope with steel nails without any problem. Didnt even notice any lag in RPM, only saw the sparks... and i checked: not a single tooth damaged either
05:17 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:41 AM Tom_L: 42F and clear
06:43 AM JT-Cave: 45°F and I've not looked outside but nws says fog
07:01 AM Tom_L: was figuring out lead in moves on wrapped geometry last evening
07:02 AM Tom_L: once you wrap it, you can't edit unless you unwrap it
07:12 AM JT-Cave: in your cam software?
07:13 AM Tom_L: yeah
07:14 AM Tom_L: basically i came up with a perpendicular line either in X or Z since Y gets wrapped
07:14 AM Tom_L: so it will feed instead of rapid starting at the line
07:20 AM Tom_L: X if it's at the end of the part and Z if it is in the middle somewhere
07:24 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you get anywhere cleaning yours out?
07:25 AM JT-Cave: no time to mess with it been too busy with other work and some play time yesterday
07:26 AM JT-Cave: we should finish up the Kawasaki air cleaner cover assembly machine today

08:06 AM perry_j1987: pretty neat stuff going on with spacex these days
08:13 AM Guest8271: Hello, I've been stuck on this for a while, the software keeps trying to find a package named Linuxcnc to run. It gives me this error:
08:13 AM Guest8271: Machine configuration file is 'axis.ini'
08:13 AM Guest8271: can't find package Linuxcnc
08:13 AM Guest8271: while executing
08:13 AM Guest8271: "package require Linuxcnc "
08:13 AM Guest8271: Any ideas?
08:13 AM Guest8271: I went searching about in the linuxcnc forums, on arch linux, and other places. However only one common thing came up; it stated that I need to change the PKGBUILD file.
08:13 AM Guest8271: I did, attempted a manual installation and reinstalled, but the same issue occurs. I went about installing the linuxcnc-git and linuxcnc-bin versions, but both of them still doesn't seem to work either, giving me the same error.
08:13 AM Guest8271: A different person had a different approach, manually compiling the software, but I do not know how to do that either.
08:16 AM Guest8271 is now known as fuzzypengu
08:17 AM JT-Cave: did you install LinuxCNC?
08:20 AM fuzzypengu: Guest8271:yes
08:21 AM fuzzypengu: I installed the package already, but I don't know why it's not being recognized
08:21 AM fuzzypengu: I shall send the links that I tried
08:23 AM fuzzypengu: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/42143-solved-linuxcnc-on-arch
08:23 AM fuzzypengu: This person suggested changing PKGBUILD
08:23 AM fuzzypengu: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/40277-error-on-config-startup-package-require-linuxcnc-solved
08:23 AM fuzzypengu: This person did a manual compilation, but I do not know how to do that.
08:24 AM fuzzypengu: Also I'm not sure what he meant by RIP instances and compilation as RIP. What does RIP stand for in this context?
08:25 AM aaroncnc: fuzzypengu, run in place i think
08:47 AM JT-Cave: if you built a RIP you need to run from that directory after doing . ./scripts/rip-environment
08:55 AM aaroncnc: is there a way to get hal show to auto open a saved watch tab on start up?
09:06 AM aaroncnc: hmm the docs say the ini can do this with the app = i will give this a try
09:10 AM aaroncnc: it works! awesome wish i knew this like a month ago.
09:14 AM roguish[m]: aaroncnc: see the docs. look for [APPLICATIONS] section in the .ini
09:21 AM aaroncnc: roguish[m], yup it works this plus being able to just call the ini from the command line is amazing. makes debugging go so much faster.
10:41 AM roycroft[m]: WTF was that?
10:42 AM roycroft[m]: I'm sitting at my desk reading email and my Matrix client popped up and said I
10:42 AM roycroft[m]: "reacted" to a post.
10:43 AM roycroft[m]: I'm not sure about this Element software - yesterday it exposed a password that I was typing into another window, and just now I "reacted" to a post when I was not even touching the keyboard or mouse.
10:46 AM roycroft: I think I need to not use it any more. I don't like software that does things on its own.
10:57 AM Guest82 is now known as fuzzypengu
11:07 AM fuzzypengu: I didn't build a run in place
11:07 AM fuzzypengu: I just installed it using my package manager
11:08 AM fuzzypengu: Was there any other step that I needed to do?
12:23 PM perry_j1987: why not use the img on the website thats already setup
12:40 PM CaptHindsight[m]: what is the official answer when someone is trying to build LCNC vs use the official ISO? Good Luck
12:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Hope you know what you are doing.
12:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: @unterhaus_:libera.chat: I installed the xscreensaver package and turned off the screensaver and the screen did not blank after 14 hours
12:45 PM roycroft: I think the "official" response would be to ask why they're doing it that way, and advise accordingly.
12:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it works, but it is a goofy fix for 2.8.2
12:46 PM roycroft: aliexpress just sent me an email saying that my order has been delivered and that my return window is closing
12:47 PM roycroft: this after i already opened a dispute with them because it's defective, and after i already shipped the item back using the shipping label they prvoide
12:47 PM roycroft: d
12:47 PM roycroft: They're pretty mixed up, I think.
12:49 PM roycroft: It's time to contact my CC issuer to initiate a chargeback.
01:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'm sure the seller is doing everything on their end to be sure that they keep funds
01:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: so you might as well
01:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I've stood and wasted 10-15 minutes while someone haggled over 25 cents worth of sheet metal at the markets there
01:16 PM Tom_L: it's not that hard to install the iso. it's not that hard to build linuxcnc.
01:17 PM Tom_L: roycroft, the matrix client is just trying to lighten your busy load
01:22 PM roycroft: It seems to be grabbing focus on its own
01:22 PM roycroft: I've killed it for now, at least.
01:22 PM roycroft: There's an update out, but I have no idea if it addresses this issue.
01:23 PM roycroft: Part of the problem may be that I run X11 on my iMac, and most folks don't. There could be some focus power struggle going on between Evolution and the X server.
02:40 PM d2inventory: satiowadahc[m]: you here? I got an issue with compiling, your components t_on t_of and t_p wont compile.
03:29 PM aaroncnc: is there a way to stop linux cnc from trying to use a negative number for spindle control? i know i can pass it into abs but for my pid that wont solve the problem. as it would give positive 50 vs negative 50
03:30 PM aaroncnc: the only thing i can think of is maybe lincurve but i kinda feel like its not the best way
03:30 PM aaroncnc: if number is negative just go to zero.
03:31 PM aaroncnc: maybe limit would fix this vs lincurve?
03:42 PM aaroncnc: limit seems to have done the trick.
05:33 PM * JT-Shop punches out and heads inside to relax
06:38 PM d2inventory: jepler[m]: I had a dig around with LOGOPEN, LOG, LOGCLOSE commands. Is there a reason why you didn't add them to the interp list? As it is right now, all the LOG commands are executed right at the start of a .ngc file. Like, is it a nono tha the emc task thingy (emctaskmain.cc) fiddles with files?
06:40 PM d2inventory: I would like to change this so it follows the g-code sequence but don't wanna waste time if that is a nono :D
06:50 PM roycroft: what a weird day it's turned out to be
06:50 PM roycroft: It was supposed to get up to 12 degrees today, which is average for the day, but right now it's 20 degrees, and the sun is just starting to set.
06:50 PM roycroft: The humidity, however, must be right near 100%, which is odd when it's sunny.
06:51 PM roycroft: Dykem is taking about 20 minutes to dry on the parts I'm laying out. At 20 degrees, it should take more like 2-3 minutes.
08:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/29-forum-announcements/40212-linuxcnc-2-8-0-buster-iso-file-re-issued@unterhaus_:libera.chat:
09:27 PM Tom_L: capn, good to know
09:32 PM Tom_L: reflected as 2.8.2 on the download page i assume
09:45 PM roycroft: today would have been a good day to have a cnc milling machine, or at least a cnc router
09:45 PM roycroft: Making semi-precison cutouts in a steel faceplate with a drill, fret saw, and files is tedious
