01:16 AM miss0r2: goodmorning
01:25 AM hazzy[m]: Morning
01:40 AM Deejay: moin
05:02 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:51 AM Tom_L: chilly morning
07:51 AM Tom_L: 42F
08:16 AM skunkworks: JT-Cave: If you are thinking of going starlink - you might want to put money down. (it is iirc $99 to pre-order)
08:16 AM skunkworks: They are still limited by how many can ben in a 'cell' until they get more satellites up.
08:21 AM skunkworks: My parents were just lucky - they signed up for the beta and got it. They have had it for months now and it is really awesome.
09:08 AM skunkworks: (people that have had viasat or hughsnet are so very happy to switch) ;)
11:25 AM Tom_L: roycroft, seb_kuzminsky> i've built linuxcnc (both rip and debs) on bullseye, it all seems to work fine
11:27 AM roycroft: great, thanks
11:30 AM Tom_L: read the devel channel log for the rest
11:31 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~tom-itx/irc/logs/%23linuxcnc-devel/2021-10-16.html
11:37 AM roycroft: i need to pull my pi and move it to my office for a bit
11:38 AM Tom_L: for now you have to build it all yourself on bullseye
11:38 AM roycroft: i'm still having issues with the raspbian install, and it's not fun running out to the shop to put my hands on the console every few minutes
11:38 AM Tom_L: but there is a roadmap to follow of sorts
11:38 AM roycroft: yeah, i don't mind that
11:42 AM _unreal_: anything new?
11:57 AM roycroft: just chilling
11:59 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/rotary/mount/Rotary_mount8.jpg http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/rotary/mount/Rotary_mount12.jpg
12:05 PM roycroft: my wood lathe has been sitting on my workbench ever since i bought it, and it's been in the way a lot
12:05 PM roycroft: today i think i need to find a home for it
12:06 PM roycroft: working on my control panel has been rather cramped, and there's no reason i should ever feel cramped with that bench - it's plenty big for anything i do
12:07 PM roycroft: it looks like the relay for my 48v power supply will arrive later today, so i can start working on wiring up the motion control system
12:12 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, nice
12:13 PM _unreal_: wish I had a rotary setup. I "DO" but the 4th axis controller on my hobbycnc controller does not work for some reason dont know why? and cant bring my self to tear down my cnc setup to investigate it
12:15 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I did come across a nice enclosure but.... was not able to grab it
12:16 PM _unreal_: it was really nice.. but to many thing had been piled onto it. and I didnt have time to try to dig it out
12:26 PM tiwake[m]: wait, f-engrave is windows only?
12:28 PM tiwake[m]: no
12:32 PM _unreal_: as I recall yes
12:32 PM _unreal_: its just a utility program
12:33 PM _unreal_: not some big company production
12:33 PM _unreal_: been around for 20 years I believe
12:42 PM roycroft: it's a python app, and you can download source code, so it should be able to run on other platforms
12:43 PM roycroft: there's even a link on the website to how to install it on mac os
01:24 PM tiwake[m]: its in the arch AUR packages
01:25 PM roycroft: awesome
01:25 PM roycroft: tandy leather have some finished sides on clearance really cheap
01:26 PM tiwake[m]: what is that?
01:26 PM roycroft: i've been wanting to make a leather mat to cover the top of my joinery bench for when i'm doing projects that don't involve using the bench stops/clamps
01:26 PM roycroft: a cowhide side
01:26 PM roycroft: my joinery bench has holes and slots and the like in it
01:26 PM roycroft: which for joinery work is necessary and fine
01:27 PM tiwake[m]: oh, the whole skin cured as leather?
01:27 PM roycroft: but when i'm doing stuff like assembling electronics, with tiny screws and the like i want a smooth surface without anyholes
01:27 PM roycroft: yes
01:27 PM roycroft: tanned leather
01:27 PM roycroft: and the clearance stuff is dyed as well
01:27 PM roycroft: and conditioned so it's soft and supple
01:27 PM roycroft: i'll head over there in a while and see what they have in stock
01:28 PM roycroft: i have to get that lathe put away first, though
01:29 PM roycroft: but yeah, ever since i built that bench i've wanted a big leather mat to cover it
01:29 PM roycroft: i just haven't wanted to spend the $150 to get one
01:29 PM roycroft: but these clearance ones are only $30
01:29 PM roycroft: they're a bit thinner than i want, but they may work
01:29 PM roycroft: and they are dyed green - almost a teal color
01:30 PM tiwake[m]: use the hooves to glue two of them together
01:30 PM roycroft: not what i would pick, but for the price, i can probably live with it
01:30 PM roycroft: a side will actually be about 2x the area i need
01:31 PM roycroft: but a shoulder, or even double shoulder, will be too small to fit in one piece
01:31 PM roycroft: and i do not want to have to stitch two pieces together - i really want it to be a single piece that covers the whole bench top
01:32 PM tiwake[m]: do like 3-ply and glue the sheets together with some sort of flexible glue
01:33 PM tiwake[m]: so it appears seamless
01:34 PM roycroft: a single piece would be best
01:34 PM roycroft: and i think i'll find one
01:35 PM roycroft: the problem is that most sides, especially the budget ones, have holes and blemishes
01:35 PM roycroft: i don't care about blemishes, but i don't want one with holes in it
01:36 PM roycroft: fortunately, when i go to the tandy leather store, i can unroll the side and inspect/measure it before i buy it
01:37 PM roycroft: and it looks like all my parcels that were supposed to be delivered today are delayed, so no more controller wiring work until monday at least
01:54 PM tiwake[m]: I wonder if I can tell f-engrave to engrave different colors at different depths
08:16 PM XXCoder: wow very tough crusher https://youtu.be/AIQwDEZDyvA
08:18 PM XXCoder: heat sensive paint, so you can see where it increases heat
